No - at the time of repaste it had not been determined these were a problem. Actually waiting for replacement pads to arrive atm (things take a while to arrive living in australia). Thanks though; hopefully that's all it is. Won't stress the system too much in the meantime.

What I mean is that people with non-alienware laptops are also welcome to inquire for a repaste service. Everybody is welcome.
We don't just limit ourselves to Alienware, in fact, we're trying to expand and cover other brands too. -

I know this will sounds more like guesswork, but do you think i need to remove motherboard in my acer to take off and repaste my cooling?Papusan likes this. -

Indeed, my 4790K is pretty awesome, it can run on 4.5GHz on 4 cores with minimal tweaking if thermal paste is good..

ı dont have high system need game on my computer now and this results are after 15min Cs-GO play on 1440p max settings with x8msaa. please guys its just cs-go ı cant think with this system more hard games :'( -
Your screenshot doesn't show any critical temperature and the differential is not really useful because you haven't run any even load on your CPU.
Could you please OCCT a try and post your results?
AFAIK, your laptop seems to be fine - at least regarding the temperatures... -
Slightly OT, but does anyone know if the Kaby Lake refresh are using the same physical architecture as Skylake versions, i.e. the problematic heatsink etc? I returned my Acer Pred 17 that had 18C core difference in temps because I do not want to have to re-paste a brand-new laptop (ridiculous that they don't come correctly pasted to begin with, or at least QA'd better with the deformed heatsinks) so am on the lookout for a replacement.

Before my system will be fixed, i'm using Ingel XTU to lover voltage on cpu and its okay. But the problem is that this utility sometime looses it's settings. Dunno when, maybe when i work on battery, or reboot, or sleep-wakeup. I sometimes find that my voltage is back on default. Any way to explain this utility to lock it?)
It's not BSOD or any other error that disables under-volt.hmscott likes this. -
Also I have my own guess why I’ve got this high temperatures on CPU. Compared to desktop pc, where cooler is mounted and screwed without any limits, my laptop have some kind of block, you can’t tighten the screw more than it’s allowed. And looks like they missed something in their calculations, and screw already met its limit but the radiator is not sufficiently pressed to the processor. Another small step in the thread on the screw and everything would be fine. That’s my guess.

Unless you crash - don't shutdown cleanly - if you crash for any reason XTU will notice the crash and not load the settings automatically.
Then you start XTU manually and select that Profile Name and Apply again - then XTU will continue loading that Profile at boot, until you don't shutdown / crash again, etc.
You can then select that Profile or any other Saved Named Profile at any time to change to it, Clicking Apply after loading the Profile values.
If you are having shutdown problems, I'd disable Hibernate - which disables Fast Startup / Shutdown so you are set up for full shutdowns:
In a "Start As Administrator" cmd window:
powercfg /h off
Then reboot. The Hibernate.sys file is gone, saving 1x RAM size on the C drive, a bonus.
Then see if XTU starts recognizing regular shutdown better, loading the Profile selected at bootAman Krishna, Papusan and vorob like this. -
Well, now i'm perfectly sure that after sleep intel xtu is loosing its values. Even without Hibernate.

Hey everyone so I would like to share my horror story with my Alienware 15 R3.
A little background to build up to this. I have a pretty old, you can call it a toaster now Gateway P-7805u FX 17" laptop (model MS2252 if you are interested). This thing is about 8 years old or so. Anyway if you look at the specs on this machine at the time it was a great buy, but now is just slow and sluggish and pretty heavy. None the less....I never had any problems with it....Now Fast forward...
I started going back to school for computer science and I am a gamer and consider my self a bit of a power user. I was looking around for a new laptop, desktop replacement grade. This machine is going to be my main machine since I do not have a desktop. I looked at MSI, ASUS, HP, etc... I was very close to buying something else. But size, portability, and weight are all important factors here. as well I am used to humping gear around (USMC) and because of that I know that oz = lbs and lbs = pain. So to be clear I know this system is not the lightest but it is not the heaviest and for the components it brings to the table is a pretty solid setup.
So I get my 15R3.
Specs 256 SSD. 6820hk. 1070. QHD. 16GB ram. Killer 1535.
I am pretty excited, this is my first computer in a long long time and it's going to have to last me a long time as well. So I boot up and problems are seen right away. The left side of the screen light bar not lighting up. The screen light bleed is horrible. Hmm well let's see how it performs. I loaded my games and started noticing some bogging down after heavy gaming. Did some research about this and found out the overheating and thermal throttling issues.
I hit up Dell the same day. After 2 hours later of testing they said they were going to send a technician out and was going to address the screen problem. The tech support downloaded HWMonitor and he had me play games and we watched the temperature. He said that at tis time my temperatures were fine, but if the temperatures went past my current ones to call back (I was hitting 80s when on the phone). So I left the HWMonitor running and did some more gaming, bogging down again. So I get out checked my temps 99c, so I call back and the tech support guy tries to tell me that it is normal, I confronted him about what the other tech support guy had said and he still told me that it was ok. I told him I disagreed and that this was not acceptable, he proceeded to tell me that a BIOS update was on the way that was going to fix the misread of the temperatures...
I asked him what about the bogging down while gaming and he said he would have the technician check it out.
So the technician guy shows up with just the screen. None of the other parts that they were supposed to change were here. He proceeds to check my CPU and GPU and he tells me that their is barely any thermal grease there and proceeds to squirt some of whatever el cheapo grease he has in there. After he is all done the left side screen led bar still no operating correctly, now I had a gap on the screen bezel right above the "ALIENWARE" writing because they didn't send that part and were supposed to and my cpu is still hitting up those temps.
I called DELL again and they recommended sending it to Texas for some testing. I told them that was unacceptable I needed this machine for school and work. After a brief hold they came back on and said they were going to replace the machine for me. I asked about the issues with the screen and the overheating and if they had been addressed. The tech support did not seem to have the answers at this time but assured me that the person that would contact me would know all about this.
Days later I get this phone call and I told to the guy handling my claim and he assures me that this has been taken care of and they have solved all the issues with this machines and I should have my machine last week. Well the machine doesn't show up and I noticed that the new Kaby Lake refresh is out.
So I email the guy I'm dealing with about it and he agrees to "Upgrade me" to the Kaby Lake due to all the frustration and just the overall experience I had so far. Now things in the meantime have gotten worse with the machine I have gotten random blue screens a couple times and the machine now refuses to come back from sleep mode. So every time I have to hold the power button down after it doesn't wake up until it completely shuts down and restart it.
The warranty guy called me back this week and tells me that the QHD is no longer available in the 15 it all so he is going to send me the 120hz gsync model. I told him it is fine as long as I still get good battery life for school and work and he assured me is going to be good not much change if any on the battery life. Upgraded my ram and my ssd as well.
So needless to say I have high hopes for this machine and I really hope they got this issue taken care of and that they updated the motherboard and thermal paste and all that.
I will be keeping my eye on the temps of the new system and go from there.
I hope this gives you guys an insight of some worst case scenarios with this machines, I believe that I just possibly got a lemon but we will see. -

Hi everyone, I just got my 15r3 past week and testing the temps and overclocks, I am new completely to benchmarking, getting around 750 marks on intel XTU on stock clock @3.6 GHz, max temps 79°C is that normal or ok?
Edit, uploaded the picture of the score

This is par for the course with Dell machines. Even if you had bought a tablet and they promised to send you a DTR for 'free', I would not accept their offers.
Return, return, return.
Once you have your money back in your pocket/wallet/bank... never return (to Dell Hell) again.
I truly believe Dell (still) doesn't know how to make computers for real world use (and with your story; it seems they never will). With their constant throttling issues and innumerable excuses for everything you can show/prove to them... they're the fruity company of the pc world...

Could someone please explain the difference of package temperature and the different core temperatures?
Where as the cores are usually between 50 to 60, I can see that the package temperature was around 90 when playing planet coaster on the highest settings. I under volted by -180. If someone could check my configuration it would be much appreciated. It's running stock but after the thermal fix by dell (I think).
I did notice after taking the screen shots that dell foundation services was hogging 30% CPU. My config is the 17r4 gpu 1080 CPU 6820.
Are those temperatures normal/ acceptable for a stock notebook?Attached Files:

Always rely on Package temp!! -
Are these temperatures normal though for this set up or should they be lower considering the undervolt?

When I have seen high package temp without high core temps it's due to iGPU thermal contribution.
Do you have Optimus enabled in the BIOS, or whatever AW is using now?
Try disabling Optimus when you are plugged in, that will disable and power down the iGPU - stopping it from heating up the package beyond the core heat contribution.
The iGPU contribution is typically 10c+ over not having it enabled, but it can be more depending on what the app/game is doing.
If you don't have iGPU enabled, then something else is going on, I'd report it to AW and get another one, you shouldn't be thermal throttling at those core utilization levels.
Please come back and let us know how it works out -
What I don't understand is, I've ran several stress tests and everything was fine and no thermal throttling. Alas I shall contact alienware..

last night I ordered a AW 15 R3 6700HQ with GTX 1070.
On the Australian website it is on clearance with $660 off the normal price.
This is at first what made me order it, but now I'm thinking it could be old problematic stock.
The models with the 6700HQ CPU are the only ones they are clearing out.
Strongly considering cancelling as I don't want to have heat or CPU throttling issues.
Does anyone know if this would have been fixed?
I'm going to ring support when they open to ask too.
Thanks.hmscott likes this. -

Doesn't matter. They will send a tech to replace the heatsink if there are issues. Stay with it!

You could also follow the @iunlock video to fix on your own and lock in those savings. When properly treated the temps seem really good.
Please come back and let us know what you end up getting and how you like itiunlock and SimplyJ3sse like this. -
I might bring up this issue with them when I call them on Monday. If they know of the issue and if they can confirm the thermal paste has been redone I will buy it.
I'm not really up to pulling the thing apart to fix it myself.
Would re-pasting void the warranty?hmscott likes this. -
Actually, you only have to pay for the parts you break and get AW to fix for you, so the rest of the laptop is still under warranty.
The real fix is removing that too thick pad so the heatsink can seat fully across the CPU.
@iunlock , wanna to help this guy out with his re-pasting? -

I returned my 6700hq to get at a crazy cheap price 6820hk refurb from the outlet. Ordered today. I know its still bga, but its at least not the worst one.
