Wow! I'm at 3.9 with stock speeds of my graphics card.
After tweaking my Graphics drivers and after loading the latest drivers, i was able to achieve this.
Graphics (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400) 3.9
Gaming Graphics (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400) 3.9
At an OCed config, i was able to get 4.0 on both these options....
PM me & Rep me to ask any questions related to your X1400 drivers...

Im really shocked on how low the Aero graphics is on my laptop. 3Dmark05 got 2283 (which is ok on vista for my card), but the windows animations are real slow and choppy.
Processor 5.1
memory (RAM) 4.8
Graphics (aero) 3.5

i managed to get my vista rating to 3.1
hp dv2000
core 2 duo t5300 - 4.7
2gb ram - 4.5
120gb 5400rpm hd - 4.5
(overclocked with xtreme g drivers) nvidia 7200 go aero rating - 3.5
gaming rating - 3.1
is my hd speed slow or is that normal? -
btw anyone know why the intel integrated gfx are getting higher scores...??

I re-evaluted mine, and now register a 1.0!!! Yeah, I paid $1700 for a computer that comes in at 1 on the Index.
Actually, that's just because I reinstalled Vista and the clean install didn't have drivers for my video card. I'm sure it'll shoot right back up to 4.8 (average 5.0) when I evaluate it again. -

It seems that having an AMD processor gives you a higher memory rating. My laptop (in signature) gets 4.7 for the processor and 5.9 for the 2
gb RAM. But other Intel systems with 2gb RAM don't seem to score so high (like the 4.8 rating for Goke313's notebook). Are those scores fair? Or is it an inconsistency in the WEI scores? -
3.0 with my desktop in my sig. My lowest score was my 3d graphics performance.
-
okay i just installed laptopvidtogo driver 156.73 on my geforce go 7200 256 mg card and I still cant get above a 2.7! :sigh: how are integrated card achieving 3.0s??
-
As for the integrated cards getting higher, it just shows the crude inconsistencies of the WEI scores. My aunt's dv2000t gets a higher score with the GMA950 and original stock driver, and the Go 6150 seems to do the same when you allocate more ram to it in the BIOS. The Go 7200 does not have this option, as memory allocation is purely dynamic...... -
vista experience index shouldnt be taken as a good benchmark.
My mates desktop 7900GT scores 5.9 for 3d performance, whilst my 8800MGTX scores 5.8. -

Gateway replaced my NX860XL with a much slower P-171S, and they tell me they are equivalent! (utter B.S.!!) The Vista Experience Index of the P-171S is only 3.1, mainly due to the Intel x3100 integrated graphics! I'm taking them to legal arbitration, as specified in their warranty, and I'd like to have a screen capture of an nx860XL for the arbitrator to see.
Can you please post a screen capture, or email one to me? (jburgett at hotmail dot com) I would really appreciate it.
I think it is makes the difference easier to understand and more obvious than detailed 3Dmark results.
Thanks in advance,

What happened to the first Gateway? Why did they replace it? How did they get a hold of your laptop?
-
The original refurbished NX860XL was purchased from Gateway Direct via an eBay auction for $750 (+ship+tax). Which was an absolutely fantastic deal. It included a Gateway 90-day Warranty, so I knew I'd be able to get some support if I had a problem. The system arrived in flawless condition, without a single scratch or dead pixel. I was very pleased with the performance running 3D games etc. The problem was with the fans and overheating. I performed many tests under controlled conditions, and it would continue running, but was dangerously hot. For example, on a flat wood desktop surface in an ambient room temperature of 23.5 deg C, with all vents completely clear, it reached 52 deg C on the underside of the unit! This was measured via an IR sensor, when I lifted the unit to take measurements. The keyboard area on the top left side also reached uncomfortable temperatures while gaming, for example 43 deg C. As you know, this is where your fingers rest wile playing many games. I was forced to run the system with the rear of the system elevated, using a keyboard when gaming. Yes, I expected the system get warm when running games, so I was not initially that surprised. The main problem was that the system fans did not operate properly on battery power alone. For example, when on battery, simply browsing the web wirelessly on a flat wooden surface, the bottom temperature reached 52 deg C, without running the side fan at all! This is what caused my initial complaint to Gateway. I mailed it to them for service, and they replaced the fan under warranty. This did not solve the problem. I sent it in again, and they were unable to see a problem, so they sent it back. The next time they sent someone out to replace the motherboard and heatsink assemblies, thinking that the motherboard was not controlling the fans properly. ( I agreed with this theory) This time, the technician showed me it would not display anything at all, so it was sent to Gateway again for repair. This time they replaced the video card, the display, and the motherboard. I received the system and began testing it with a Burn-in program, and noticed that half of the display would flicker when the Vista "Power Plan" was set to "Power Saver". ONce again, I contacted them to repair the unit, and they suggested that they replace it. I agreed, and they told me they would replace it with a system that was "equal to or better than" the original system. I was hoping for a functional nx860XL, or an equivalent new system. So, I sent my system to them as they instructed.
Instead, I received a P-171S. This is in NO WAY is an equivalent system!
At this point, my only recourse is legal arbitration. -
Well, that sucks. I guess they don't want to put too much money into this "sweet deal" you got.
If they keep on refusing to deliver what they promised, you indeed do not have much options.
Good luck with it! -
Just an update, but after beginning the Legal Arbitration process, Gateway settled with me. I got my refund, case closed.
-
Mine is only 4.1 by the way. The 8400M GS rapes my score, otherwise it would be 5.1 or 5.3. -
I get a 5.1 with my ram holding me back (5.4 is my next lowest component)
-
can someone tell me why the wei doesn't average out the results and just chooses the lowest one? surely this would be a better representation of overall performance since your computer isn't only has fast as the slowest component ie. having a slow graphics card isn't going to slow your processor down ..
-
because, generally, the weakest part dictates what a computer can and can't do
if you have all the best equipment except for a CPU, where you're stuck with a P3-800MHz (if that was technologically possible of course), all the fancy 9800GX2 and 4GB RAM and 15.000rpm HD with 32MB cache wouldn't matter: you'd still not be able to play Crysis
and if you got a quad core CPU, but are stuck with a nVidia GeForce 4600 GTX, the same applies
and I suppose that's why they take the lowest score
though I might be so far off, that even Hubble can't see me anymore -
4.8 limited by the memory and hdd.

Processor 4.9

Aero Graphics 5.9

I believe after I drop in my T9300 my ram score will go up to about 4.8 - 5.0 -
How is it that a CPU upgrade raises the RAM score? :|

After upgrading to the specs in my sig my score came up to 5.1..........still limited by the RAM and HD though.
What's the secret to getting RAM to perform better? I have the best my motherboard can handle according to the specs on it, and it's one of the latest motherboards, PM965 series.........I would think that with 4GB on it I'd see better than 5.1. -
3.4, limited by my GPU (8400M GS)

A magnificent 1.0 for the Zepto Notus A12.
See the review for details. Gaming graphics was the weak link but, surprisingly, 1GB of single channel 400MHz RAM scored 4.5 on the memory benchmark.

4.8 My RAM is what's limiting me, and the Santa Rosa motherboard does not support fast RAM, so I'll be stuck at 4.8 no matter what.
