I would like to know how many people have had their ship dates changed already, and what configuration they ordered.

2820QM, DreamColor w/ cam, Quadro 2000M, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, backlit kb and Intel 6300. Order placed 5/26 with ship 6/11. Still on time, no notfication of delays yet.

Anyone else have updated ship dates, or still have the original date? If things are still on time, we should start seeing some next week. I won't hold me breath though!

    8560w customized:

2720QM, 1920x1080 (non-DC) w/cam, ATI video, 4GB (which I will toss and replace with 4x4GB(16GB), 500GB + Standard DVDRW drive (which I will toss both of them and replace with 2x240GB SSD in RAID 0), non-backlit keyboard, I think I only got the 2 antenna WLAN card.

Put it in last week and showed a 11-Jun-2011 build completion estimate. I just got an email yesterday stating a new estimated build complete of 26-Jun-2011 and arrival of 29-Jun-2011. I'm going to call up HP to see what component (if it's something I might change) is the hold up, and also to check on pricing... the same config I did last week is coming up $275 cheaper... Gotta check into that!

Thanks for the info on the price drop. Looks like it was the base config that dropped. I looked at my config too and saw the same. I just e-mailed my rep to see what he can do. Maybe I will get the advanced docking station, or a blu-ray burner!!!!
Hopefully I can get the credit. Never gone back to HP for adjustments, but it never hurts to ask.

Ordered a pre-configured XU085UT#ABA on 5-24. At the time it said estimated ship date is 6-8. Haven't heard a word since. Website says "Your order is approved and being sent to order management." I called HP to make sure everything was OK. They said it was. So I'm just waiting.

just got off the phone with my rep and he said the only thing I can do to get the new price is to cancel the order and place a new one. But, the catch is the current order has already been sent through order management and is in production now, so I would have to take delivery of it first, then return it. But wait...I can't return a CTO, even if it is unopened.
His solution...order another one and I can get the new price! I love business.

Thanks for the update. Since your rep said your laptop is in production, I'm wondering -- does your order status still say "sent to order managment?"

I had the sent to order management message, then I was unable to get any information. Even now, when I go to view the status, I get a message stating "Order number is not found in the Vista. Please contact an Account Rep or Manager for more information"

in Germany ETA for 8560w pre-configured models not before 05.07.2011 at the distributors....

normally that means, that CTO via TopConfig will be a good 2 weeks later, if not longer.

I was told that pre-config 8560w are currently in production and they shouldnt leave the factory untill 7.7., after that it takes about 5 days to get them to distributors. This applies to Czech Rep., Germany and my guess is that to the rest of Europe as well.

I'm in the U.S. Ordered on 2011-05-24 with an estimated ship date of 2011-06-08. Got the email yesterday saying:

We regret to inform you that your order ######## has encountered a delay due to a temporary material shortage. We are working to fulfill your order as soon as possible and we will contact you again within 5 days if your order has not shipped.

    ...

    With kind regards,

Yep, I got mine e-mail today. I am not surprised. What I am disappointed about is that they wait until the ship date to tell you it is not coming. Is it really something that they just ran out of? Maybe a cardboard box or packing tape? At what point in time did they realize they were not going to make the shipment on time?

They better at least get some units out to reviewers. As much as I want the IPS screen, if this takes forever and a day, I guess I'll just have to go with the Lenovo W520 that I can get off the shelf to my house in only a couple of days.

For whatever it's worth, CostCentral is now 'estimating' that the 8560w SmartBuy units will be in stock on 06/29/2011.

Not surprising, but not particularly encouraging either. My guess is that it will actually be 1-2 weeks after that. I hope I'm wrong.

I ordered an 8560w from CDW a couple of days ago. The rep said I should have it by the end of June. I just checked the order status on their website and saw this:

Qty. 1 Backordered - Est. Ship Date 7/14/2011

Based on what I'm seeing here, I can't say that I am too surprised. I think those of you who ordered direct from HP will probably get them the soonest.

Back when I used to order consumer laptops, HP would usually beat their estimated ship date by a week - even for custom orders. That said, I think when production is running smoothly, the shipping estimates are padded to give them a buffer. Clearly, the production of these new models has run into some problems.

Ordered a 8460w CTO on 5/23. Shipping dates got bumped twice, eventually to 6/22 but i just got a shipping notification and a fedex tracking #. It's on it's way from China!

As a veteran buyer of HP Elitebook products and a veteran of their delays "due to material shortages," I can tell you that you may receive your computers near the date of your latest delay notice, or you may continue to receive such notices for weeks or even months to come! EG, last year I ordered a 2740p when it was first released in May and after missing the estimated May 29 ship date, I was still receiving notices that the shipment would be delayed due to material shortages through July, and the last estimated ship date was August 14! Interestingly, there were notices sent that said the material shortages were everything from Core i cpus, which were fairly new at the time, to HINGES!

I did discover a wonderful resource person, Anna Valencia (see contact info, below) in order management and if you email her, and are courteous and patient, she will not only give you the most up to date accurate information, but she has at times managed to get me a unit long before it was scheduled in the delay notices. In the example above for the 2740p that was delayed from May to August, I sent a courteous but pleading email to Ms. Valencia and the day after the July 7 email delaying the shipment to August, I received a Fedex tracking number! (Unfortunately, the unit shipped was DOA, as were the next two I received, but that's another story. Oh, almost forgot: Anna arranged for a generous discount as compensation for the delays. :)

I strongly recommend you contact Anna Valencia to keep tabs on your order, and if she is helpful, that you send a complimentary email about her to [email protected].

Still and all, I do suggest you have a lot of patience both to receive your shipment and then to deal with the "new model-itis" that very often plagues significant model changes, as the 8X60 series represents. That said, the early experience with the 8560p's are better than many past model changes, so there is some hope there.

    Good luck!

I called HP sales (US) yesterday trying to get more info about the Elitebook. I'm on the fence on the Elitebook vs Precision (it's down to a matter of price vs ship date for me). HP Sales told me they have 8 preconfigs (XU083UT) coming into the warehouse for sales/shipping...for whatever that's worth. :/

APasserBy, If ship date is important, DO NOT GO HP. I got a call from my rep this afternoon and he said possibly 5 more weeks. This is after he told me Friday that I may have it by the end of this week!

Let's just say I am not counting on it.

My rep told me he would "know" on Thursday whether or not I am one of those 8. If he can't give me a straight answer that day, I'm canceling my order and paying more for the Precision. :D

edit: my sales rep did originally give me a 5 week lead time, until I told him I was looking at a preconfig.

I got an email yesterday from CDW that my 8560w shipped. I ordered it on 6/6/2012. Unfortunately, the last expected ship date that I had from CDW was July 15th, so I waited to order my SSD drive.

Well, someone got an 8560w shipped in that batch of 8, but it wasn't me. I really have no idea when my ship date is :/ I was told July 8-July 20. I might have to cancel my order, but both the Precision and the Thinkpad are much more expensive.

    I ordered XU083UT (i7-2630QM, 8GB, 1920x1080, FirePro M5950, 500GB). Came out to $1700 after taxes.

Well, even more bad news. Just got off a chat session with HP and according to them, this delay on the 8560w had been extended to about 2 months now. The rep checked my order and is now stating approx ship date of JULY 26!

Still no explaination of what the delay is being caused by, but they did say that even the pre-built models are delayed until then.

I really hope this info is wrong, but I have a gut feeling it is correct and I will be moving towards Lenovo W520 in 10 days if there is no more information.

ephone1, did you ever get your 8560w? I know CDW normally gives tracking #'s so you should be able to see where it is and when you can expect it.

I would love to hear that SOMEONE actually got one. Plus a mini review would be nice. ;)

I got an e-mail stating that my updated ship date will be the 30th. I also had a phone call from my rep stating that he tried getting next day air, but coming out of Chine it will get here when it gets here! Hopefully it ships on the 30th. We have a 4 day weeknd for the 4th of July, so I would not get it until the 5th anyways.

My custom config is still 7/7 as of two days ago. But, my faith in the estimates is... well, I'm trying to just be patient and go on with life... let's put it that way. They stated CPU's as the component causing the shortage.

BTW, they also said my ultra cap battery would be delayed as well, but that arrived yesterday "unannounced". I sense a certain degree of communication failure with the factory side might be plaguing HP at the moment...

at least you guys have contact with HP. I have ZERO confidence that mine is shipping tomorrow, as scheduled. Last week, HP was very willing to keep me updated. This week, no response to e-mail, no answers on chat and phone calls were all left with "we will call you back" and no reply. The people in order management are saying they are not getting any response out of China.

I told my rep I needed a new laptop by the end of the month. Well, tomorrow is it. If there is no word, I will probably be ordering my W520. BTW, I purchased direct through HP not a reseller.

It was one year ago that I joined these forums, when I had ordered an 8540w (and 8740w and 6550b). A year later, it's the same thing - new models are out and everyone is wondering when HP will ship the darn things.

I can only offer this advice - be patient. As good as HP is in developing new business models (even though some new features or lack thereof won't please everyone), there will be some delays and errors. Could be new parts shortages, or last minute driver refinement, or a glitch found in Q/A or etc, etc. Besides, when customers handle these delays in a courteous and professional manner with HP, HP Business has usually been generous in providing incentives for the customer to stay with the deal. At least in the USA, where I'm at. It took longer than expected at the time, but I finally received all three machines, properly configured, and at a favorable cost. I'm still happy about the deal.

OFF TOPIC: Hawk, is that one of your own pictures? If so, nicely done. As you can see from mine, I'm a fan of such work.

I ordered mine on 6/25 with an ETA of 7/23. That date has not changed yet, I called HP last week but didn't get too much info.

They're listed as in stock again. Wish my bank would clear my paycheck faster. Unfortunately, they raised the price to $2036
