No, no need. The adapter & SSD weighs next to nothing. I just wrapped the adapter with the SSD on it in bubble wrap to prevent it from rattling - no heat issue so far. But I am definitely enjoying the performance!

Hmm, but I dont even have this tape, how could I connect this adapter ?

Picture from my 2530p. You need that flat cable and adapter too. I'd guess service manual has part numbers for those. -
Thank you for this reply ) I found a cheap one on our allegro:
Adapter dysku HP EliteBook 2530P LS-4029P (4507017421) - Allegro.pl - WiÄcej niż aukcje.
And what about these blue, plastic elements? Did you get them with your HDD? -
Well, they have always been there
This is original setup.
I would guess they belong to the laptop, hdd bracket or something. Again service manual probably has that info -
I guess it will be easier for me to buy some 2.5" SSD 128GB and use my 1TB HDD as a portable disk since I have already this HDD Caddy instead of DVD drive...
-
Too much trouble. Just put a piece of cardboard or something to keep the drive in place. Like already said it's not mechanical and it weighs next to nothing so it doesn't move anyways.
-
Okay, so I am gonna order:
1. Disk cable connector :
Adapter dysku HP EliteBook 2530P LS-4029P (4507017421) - Allegro.pl - WiÄcej niż aukcje.
2. MSata to MicroSata Adapter:
Mini PCIe mSATA SSD 1.8" microSATA Adapter (4522308112) - Allegro.pl - WiÄcej niż aukcje.
3. SSD SanDisk X110 SD6SF1M-064G:
SSD SanDisk X110 SD6SF1M-064G (4522103321) - Allegro.pl - WiÄcej niż aukcje. -
I also ordered msata to microsata adapter few days ago.
I'm going to use that 32GB drive I have around, just for fun... -
Just for fun? Your elitebook will work much faster )
-
Have you tried it? Mine works really nice, I bought 80gb SSD LiteOn. Now I have some question, concerning the drivers for the graphic card for Windows 7 64x, shall I get it from HP site or rather from the Intel's one ? I have problem with this inbuilt camera, it is choppy ...

hi all
i'm a new 2530p owner, who's happy to find this forum. You mentioned a modded bios F13..what is this? whats new in it? The latest official bios is F22.
Are there any newest or modded vga driver?
thanks folks
Szabolcs -
Installing the finger print driver I manage to erase the computer serial number in the BIOS
I manage to get the notebook to work again but it take upto 2 minutes looking for the serial number before reporting "invalid serial number" on the BIOS start up screen
Is there anyway to fix this by flashing a modified BIOS because I really do not want to return the notebook to HP to fix the problem
Cheers -
Upgraded to Windows 10 x64. Anybody has problems with brightness controls through Fn+F9/F10? So far, only can adjust brightness via builtin Windows brightness control settings.

I just picked up an old but clean HP EliteBook 2530p from a charity auction at work. I love this little thing! So far, I've wiped it, put Windows 7 on it, dual-booted Ubuntu 14.04, and then updated Windows to 10. Works like a charm so far! I wanted to upgrade the RAM from the current 2GB to the (supposed) max of 8GB, so I've been shopping. According to HP's website here: https://h10057.www1.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/provisioner/05/FM859UT.htm and here http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04112220.pdf there are two RAM slots that fit 800MHz DDR SODIMM. When I open it, I only see one RAM module in there, and I don't see a place for the second one to go. I was intending to buy a pair of 4GB, but if I can't put two in there...
This is what my memory module compartment looks like.
Am I missing something? Is there another slot somewhere? -
Being lazy as I usually am, I just googled for 2530p motherboard image search. Couple first results show a motherboard from both sides and there is a slot on both. I'm pretty sure the other slot is under the keyboard.

That makes sense. Annoying and inconvenient. Thanks!

Installed Windows 10 on this thing, but I have very weird slowness issues. It started around the time (or when) I was playing some Dosbox games. My system will slow down immensely after a while. The game, for instance, I need to close it, then wait a few minutes, then start it again. If I start it again too soon it will still be slow and sluggish.
I can have file transfers (original HDD) that normally do about 15MB/s as a copy from the disk to the disk, but they can become as slow as 1MB/s. A virtual machine that was running in it (Ubuntu) recorded 35MB/s with HDPARM after reboot, but if the system has been running for a while it can read as slow as 15MB/s.
I have never had such a sluggish computer and it doesn't take long for it to begint to slow down either.
I have no clue what it is. I did have a malware infestation but I cleared it out and can't see anything remaining, nor is it common or useful to think that such programs can create such problems without cause.
In these instances there is really no high CPU consumption, nor high memory, nor high disk activity. Everything seems to be normal except that the system sometimes slows down to a crawl.
Main culprit is that computer game, I have heard it say that Intel released no drivers for this chipset (both from Intel themselves and from GOG.com, the distributor of the game). So we are using "Microsoft Compatibility drivers". And there are some (a lot) of devices in Device Manager that have no driver for them. And I seriously don't know what to do or how to troubleshoot this. When the system is just booted, everything is fine.
After doing certain things, everything slows down. I have tried turning off swap memory (I have enough ram) and disabling the prefetch/superfetch. I still need to check the main drive for bad clusters. -

. It's good to know that you at least have no issues. But I wonder if you've also done any of the same things? Because I don't know or remember if I had these issues when I was not doing these things (dosbox, virtualbox). Still it should mean that in principle it shouldn't be a W10 issue????.
These harddisks are very expensive to replace, aren't they? I have a spare harddisk that I don't think contains anything important anymore at this point which I could put in, it is an identical from an old exemplar.
This gives me some more info at least as to what my options are: reinstall W10 from scratch (which I hate to do) ---> I spent all this time making a system image and then the system image might be worthless. Or get back to W7 first. It is likely that running a version of Linux would give no problems, but then Linux itself is one big problem case. There is little doubt that after reinstall there is a high chance (if I reinstall W10) that the problems would return.
But this laptop had issues with W7 too. At least, the first time, it came with W7 and I got blue screens of death on it. Maybe its hardware is faulty. I reinstalled W7 and then I had no issues, except for the fact that Windows Update would not manually work. There is something weird about windows 7. I am happy that I did install W10 for a while but maybe the entire unit is faulty (the laptop) and I should just seek a return, I don't know. I think my best bet is to reisntall W7/W8 and then see what happens then. If that gives problems as well, it is a faulty unit.

also, mint 17.2 running smoothly in dualboot. but I am thinking of switching to Antergos Arch. It is the only distro I know, that has vaapi (video acceleration) for GMA4500HD (our video card). -
Really. I was not really aware of any video issues with the GMA45 but some Linux users pointed me in that direction by saying they needed to analyse my system logs to see if my complaints about KDE being rotten in its design, were not stemming from some slo-mo due to the chipset. Which I very much doubted.
As Windows 10 was running very slow, I don't recall Linux ever running slow on the same thing. I am sure I had it installed, on this exemplar. Before on the same laptop Windows 7 gave BSODs . And. Linux. Was. Fine.
Not sure when I'll get the thing back, I'm busying myself with Windows 10 on a desktop system now. -
Replying to my own question on a previous page couple of months ago - brightness controls with Fn+F9/F10 stopped working for me due to installation of DanielK video driver update for GMA-4500-MHD - it is a way to get back Intel GPU control panel and many OpenGL 2/3 capabilities under Windows 8/10.

Other than that - for all having problems on WIN 10 - i have 2 2530p's and both running Win 10. It works like a charm. Quick, snappy - true that i have a Kingston SSD in one of the machines and the second has a standard Toshiba HDD 160 GB . Both have 4 GB of RAM and run fluent, however the SSD one is without surprise faster and a boot-up time of only 10-12 sec.Last edited: Feb 16, 2016
