Hi,
I have a 2530p with the SLG8SP553V as opposed to the common ICS9LPRS397DKLF. I understand that it needs a hardware mod before being able to overclock. Can someone please provide instructions for how to do this. Of course The next step would be getting hold of the modded bios, but first I need to do a hardware mod.
Thanks

Hi all!
New here and as this thread has such a huge amount of pages I'll ask directly as I didn't find 100% answer from browsing through this thread.
With my Elitebook 2530p can I install every 1,8" SSD in to the slot inside the computer or does the SSD need to be from Intel (as said in the manual) or somehow compatible with Intel's SSd technology?
Would this SSD fit my 2530p? http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=108080&agid=1274
Edit. pasted wrong link

My 2530p works with a samsung 840 pro SSD (I'm using it right now). It's a 2,5" SSD. It has been installed inside an optical drive bay. Everything works flawlessly !
So, I think any 1,8" SSD disk will work into the 1.8" slot.

Hi again,
I'm looking for the modded F13 bios with the dual IDA mod by nanda. Is there anybody to send it to me ?
For guys interested by the removed whitelist version only, it can be found there.
Xtof -
Thank you very much for the info. Did the optical drive mount come with the computer or do you have to buy it separately, and if you have to can you point me to the right direction where one could find such a mount?
I believe you got the computer to boot from the SSD also?

2nd Hard Drive (or SSD) Caddy for HP 2530p (built-in USB port) [HP-2BAY-2530p] - $58.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
I chose that one because it adds third usb port like the OEM one does. I'm using 1.8"+2.5" drives, no ssd as I'm probably going to let go of this one soon.
Also delivery from Newmodeus to Finland was only few days, three at most and I selected the cheapest option. I think I got lucky with the timing. -
I'm pretty sure you can get the exact same from ebay at a lower price. You can search for it using its HP part number.
This is the one I have. I remember that I paid it around 35€ including shipping fees few month ago.
2.5" SSD can boot from the optical drive bay
-
Terve terve KLF and thanks again xtof!
In my scenario when I don't really need extra space, just a faster harddrive in order to get a little more time out from my 2530p, I'll go with a 1,8' SSD and order it from the link I posted as the price stays around 130 (compared to ordering the mount for ~30-50 and buying 2,5' SSD on top).
I'll let you guys know how it works, and thank you again for your quick and informative answers.

The chip BIOS is on the CPU side of the board (your first pic). It is the socketed SO-8 chip between RAM slot and heat-pipe.
If you plan to buy an external programmer to change bios version (I did it), pay attention on the programmer you buy, on ebay for example. Some of these are not compatibles with 64bits OS. It is often not mentionned in product description. -
For people that still use this 2530p :
The recent WIFI card Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 6235ANHMW 802.11n which includes a bluetooth 4.0 connectivity works very well using unwhitelisted F13 BIOS.
Tested with Ubuntu 13.04 gnome edition.Meins321 likes this. -

OK - so Windows XP is reaching the end of Microsoft support. I guess I'll try switching to Windows 7. Anything I should know about which edition to install, updating BIOS, etc? Any thoughts on best source for Windows 7? Should I get another HD for my laptop to install Windows 7 onto (just in case all does NOT go well)?

Hello, I have the same problem with bios password
for may hp2530p, after a time, I found the
greatest tool on the internet to reset not only
bios password but also fingerprint, it is
successful 100% for me. This is the guide for it.
---------------------------------
Greetings HAK5,
I have a system/tool I have created that WILL
help some of you reset and clear the Password/TPM
on select HP Probook/Elitebook laptops. I
originally shared my work with YouTube and
MyDigitalLife.info (so some of my links point to
my posts there, not trying to cross-link or
anything. Just trying to keeping relevant
information in the right places. If that's
against s the rules, a MOD may edit them out.
This is Bar-None the single best software based
solution to HP Pro/Elitebook BIOS password
resets. 100% Legit. No Scam, No Spam, No virus.
Look at my 26K+ views youtube video, and read
the comments. I have downloads from all over the
world, and I'm just here to share my work with
this community.
There are now 2 versions of my tool. The Original
Windows based system what creates a key based on
your input, or the new DOS based tool that gets
all parameters automatically. Both links will be
presented here in this post. See this [ Post ]
for information on my newest release. My windows
based solution offers a bit better support for
more models, while my DOS tool-set is just easier
to use.
Please read everything and ask questions. I haven
not yet seen a bricked BIOS, but I have see where
maybe extra steps are needed to reprogram. No
biggie, just a hassle.
[INTRO]
My story begins as this:
A few months back, I got an HP Core i7 Probook
6550b from my dad (that he picked up 2nd hand).
It had a busted display though. Upon repair, it
was found to be BIOS Password protected. And thus
began my quest. Long story short here, I did what
I set out to do. I was able to reset the TPM, and
clear the password. Along the way, I have applied
my technique to a few other models and have
confirmed successful TPM reset. This is a
software based solution. No disassembly, or
removal of any parts (unless your boot order is
locked, then there is a little work to be bone,
see end of post)
[UPDATE]01-08-2014
New Windows Based utility package. Now archive
contains an IMG file and tool to burn IMG to USB.
USB will be bootable. Boot your HP to USB to get
system info automatically. Then boot to windows,
and run HP BIOS Reset.exe from USB. You can now
Import your information and make a key. Reboot
back to USB to run your Key. Updated Readme.
Updated GUI. Enjoy.

will obtain this information automatically and
can be imported.
Once data is entered/imported into the fields,
click the 'make key' or 'Make All' button and a

file will be created in the '\output' folder.
Reboot to this thumbdrive and CD to '\output' and
run your exe file.
[LOCKED BOOT ORDER]
If your BIOS has a locked set boot order, and
will only boot to HDD,
you need to take a laptop sata drive and use an
external adapter and
make it dos bootable on another host machine also
placing the files
on this drive, then replace the internal hdd with
your created dos
boot-able HDD. Powering on the machine will boot
to the dos

files and
execute them following directions on screen. BIOS
will be free of
passwords, TPM will be cleared.

@algirdas:Yes use win7.64bit.Home Premium for all round use.Best to have 4gb ram with 64bit but not absolutely necessary unless using larger programs.4gb also gives decent boost in shared video RAM (1695mb total). If you have BIOS earlier than F13 use the Dual IDA No Whitelist posted at the start of this thread and install Throttlestop for a worthwhile CPU boost. Use the video driver from HP downloads(turbo boost tech.) and support .When installing Win 7 service pack 1 be prepared for 230+ updates (not all in 1 download, more like 3 or more so keep checking till your sure you got them all). Also you will notice missing drivers in Device Manager (pci simple communications)these are Intel AMT firmware update and MEI(management engine) driver available on HP support site.On your own for finding Fingerprint drivers (yeh!,it will work but is the software clutter worth the headache) Remember, the more HP software you have, the slower your rig will run. Most of your drivers which you will need will come down on windows update when you do the install.DONT download everything from the support site as a lot of it doesnt apply to your average user install and is business environment stuff. Basically! KISS. install win 7 and add what you need later. 3-2530p all on 7 64bit.

Tried with two different external displays, HP LA2205wg and HP L2245wg. Both are 22 inch displays with a 1680 by 1050 native resolution.
After installing the latest drivers for both the external display and the graphic card (Mobile Intel GMA X4500 HD) Windows still kept changing the resolution back to 1600 by 1200 and displaying "Out of Range" whenever the computer was docked.
Opening the lid/built-in display to change the resolution back to the native resolution for the external display, the resolution (1680 by 1080) was now not even available in the drop-down list.
Tried both the latest graphics driver from HP and Intel.
Finally uninstalled the graphic card driver completely and restarted the computer, twice.
Windows then reverted back to the Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) driver version 8.15.10.1749 from 2009-05-06 and automatically selected the native resolution (1680 by 1050) of the external display.
Windows did automatically select 800 by 600 instead of the native resolution (1280 by 800) of the built-in display but was easily changed to the recommended native resolution 1280 by 800. -
Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit seems to work OK. HP webcam gives EAccess blurp now and then.Office 2013 Plus also seems OK. If U are hardcore Win 7 user download " Classic Shell" from "ninite"website and install. This gives option of three different desktop views.Use this with Win 8 "boot to desktop" option and enable scrolling on your trackpad. If win8 User Account prompts drive U nuts, download "UAC Pass" and follow instructions. Now u have best of both worlds.

Hello to everyone! I'm experiencing an AMT issue with my 2530p. Windows detects three devices: the drivers for two of them are correctly installed (though the devices remain with the yellow exclamation mark no matter what I try) while the driver for the third (which has clearly still something to do with AMT) couldn't be found anywhere.
Apart from this, the AMT menu inside the bios most of the times is greyed out while sometimes it is accessible but any changes made there seem uneffective. No CTRL-P, NOTHING that makes me believe AMT is actually there.
I've already read the advices from Sebl and others around pages 21 and 35 of this thread but I couldn't even succeed in completely disabling AMT (at this point it would be a great achievement for me).
I've booted the laptop with a Freedos boot disk and tried to execute cpqamt v1.0 from there (unlocking the AMT descriptor keeping the right and left arrows along with WIN key pushed while turning the laptop on and keeping them pushed till I see the bios splash screen) but first of all the 'write unlock' command isn't supported (only write reset/on/off are) and worst of all, no matter what command I try to execute, cpqamt hangs there with no apparent signs of life (even for minutes) so I need to shut the laptop down keeping the power on button pressed.
I've also tried to update the AMT firmware with the one downloadable on HP site but it keeps trying to connect to the driver and it doesn't do anything (I didn't expect anything different considering that the devices aren't correctly working).
I've downloaded a dos based AMT firmware updater from Lenovo site as a last resort but I don't know if using it with the firmware provided by HP could make things even worse.
I'm desperate, what can I do? I've tried everything to no avail and apart from the yellow exclamation marks the laptop sometimes fails to boot meaning that it boots to bios but nothing more (which is according to what I've read another sign of failing AMT) and I don't really know what else I could try...
p.s. I've forgotten to add that I've already tried to update the bios (I currently have the latest F.22) and to reset it removing the CMOS battery under the keyboard, everything still to no avail. -
has anyone else had the problem of the touch buttons along the top of the keyboard flaking out?
they will work for a while when i start up the laptop then after 10-15minuts the leds go off and the buttons become unresponsive.
i suspect it may have something to do with the 400mw ubiquiti sr71e wifi card pulling too much power. does anyone have any other ideas? -
Damned, my 2530p has stopped charging battery for two weeks now. After several tests I suspect something dead in the battery charging circuits of the mainboard. I have found were the charging circuit is located. I know it is based on the BQ24740 IC from Texas Instruments, but the datasheet of this IC is insufficient. The mainboard's schemtatics that can be found quite easily over the web are all 36-pages long and do not include the charging part.
My only hope was in this forum. But I don't have been able to getany point to be able to download the 45pages datasheet of the mainboard. Is anybody has this document ?
Or even better, the Orcad allegro projet of the mainboard (My ultimate dream) ?
Without these schemtics, It's quite impossible to fix it.
It seems that I'm at the end with this wonderfull laptop. -
should I install F.13 or F.12 bios if I want to overclock my 2530p with SU9300 1.2GHz t 1.4 GHz? Thanks
-
For that, you will need the modified F13 dual-modulus BIOS.
See the first page for the link to download this BIOS -
Hi
New here and need some help please.
2 issues.
1. I bought a company owned 2530 so the bios has password and i don't know how to reset. so any tips would be great
2. Also i wanted to upgrade to a SSD drive for better performance so wanted to know would i need to change any setting in the bios to swap with the standard sata with SSD. Bios locked so cant access
many thanks -
I see that my post hasn't been much interesting for anyone unfortunately though I'm sure that many out there have the same issue I'm experiencing. That's a pity because the laptop is fully working but it doesn't boot reliably because of the AMT issues...
Could I at least ask someone why doesn't cpqamt work with the 2530p and it freezes?
It's certainly an issue with the 2530p because I've tried with a perfectly working one and it freezed too. What's even stranger is that I've seen that at least cpqamt v1.0 which is the version I was able to find doesn't support the write unlock command as explained by sebl and others in this same thread. -

not be able to respond quickly...
you need HP DMIFIT utilities... -
@alexkul
Thank you very much for your reply!I'm glad to receive one at last. I've already downloaded HP DMIFIT Utilities, many versions of them but the problem is that when I run the batch file brand.bat, it locks on cpqamt with a blinking cursor without doing anything. I've tried even on another FULLY working 2530p (with a vpro cpu and with working AMT) from a friend and it happens EXACTLY the same. I've tried the SAME utilities on the same boot disk with a 2510p and EVERYTHING works well instead.
What I've underlined in my previous sentence clearly makes me believe that there is some kind of incompatibility between cpqamt v1.0 (but I couldn't find any version different than that) and the 2530p.
I've also tried brand11 and brand12 using UEFI but it says they're for another (newer) platform, the Huron River one. I'm out of luck!
If you have any advices, please let me know. Thanks! -
The way to disable VPRO is:
1. Create a USB DOS bootdisk and install the {HP DMIFIT utilities} on it.
2. Shutdow system. Ensure your DMIFIT USB stick is in the USB drive.
3. Press and hold WIN+Left_arrow+Right_arrow while simulatenously pressing the power button of the 2530P.
This unlocks the AMT descriptor. Now hit F9 and select the USB stick for boot.
4. Now type:
cpqamt read
cpqamt write reset
cpqamt write off
cpqamt write lock
cpqamt reboot
5. Reboot the system and will no longer has AMT issues since it's turned off.
.BAT files does not work correctly -
Hello again! I really appreciate your attempt at helping me, thank you!
I've forgotten to add it but I've also tried without using brand.bat and I've already tried the commands you've told me but the problem is that, no matter what command I try, cpqamt freezes with only 'cpqamt v1.00 copyright...' etc. and a blinking cursor right below it on the screen, nothing else neither if I wait some minutes. It is definitively freezed and I can't even reboot, I can only turn the laptop off keeping the power button pressed for some seconds.
I'm confident that all of this has something to do with me not being able to unlock the AMT descriptor indeed, through UEFI, brand11 (though not suitable for my platform) still gives me some advices saying that VPRO is uncommitted (like I expected) BUT descriptor is LOCKED.
What I do is, according to yours and other instructions already found around here and not only here, turning on the laptop while keeping <- , -> and the WIN key (the one on the left of the left ALT button just to be sure) pressed and releasing them only when the HP logo appears (I've also tried releasing them soon after the laptop turns on, no joy) but NOTHING: the descriptor is always locked. Maybe the 2530p needs a different method to unlock the descriptor, I don't know.
I'm sure the problem is there but I don't know what I could do. -
Before those actions
Try to set bios to default settings after try to remove all removable device (Wi-/fi, CD-Rom, HDD and other) Maybe it will help...
I have other versions of cpqamt... -
I've already tried everything (removing everything which was removable, swapping memory modules, resetting the CMOS by removing the RTC battery, reflashing bios though always with F.22 because it can't be dowgraded, REALLY everything I could imagine) to no avail. The problem is with the locked descriptor almost for sure...
What are the other versions of cpqamt you have? I could manage to find v1.00 only, no matter where I've searched. Apart from this, with a locked AMT descriptor it's very unlikely that I could manage to achieve anything... -
If you can not unlock the descriptor, nothing can be done...

Hello again. Yours is one of the many versions I've sourced. Hpset works perfectly fine indeed I was able to change the serial and P/N and cpqamt is the same size so it's very likely to be the same version (1.0). The problem is cpqamt which freezes as described. Does cpqamt work fine on yours?
As explained, I've tried even with a working (with no issues at all) 2530p with vpro cpu and I still can't unlock the descriptor: I'm sure that on the 2530p the descriptor needs to be unlocked in an alternative way, maybe it's due to newer bios versions I don't know but I don't believe it. -
Is it possible that there isn't anyone around here who could 'waste' (I don't think it is a waste of time) his/her time (a matter of five minutes, I can forward all the needed tools by e-mail) to check if cpqamt works on his/her 2530p or it behaves like it does for me on two different systems (one of them being a fully working one)? I'm sure there is something wrong with the procedure (mainly with unlocking the AMT descriptor) but if alone I can't confirm anything.
Honestly speaking, I don't understand why there is such a low interest for this subject which is instead a quite important one I think... I like the talks about modding but here we're talking about something much more important which makes the difference between a working system and a non working one... -
Hey Team!
Long time gone from this thread. Been doing QuadCores in my 2560ps and looking for 2570p for the 35 watt Quad. Anyways! To all of yah. Before yah get going on all the wild stuff _ Go to the corner store an grab a new RTC (Run Time Clock Battery) .Cuttin it out of cardboard, these rigs came out in late 2008 and batts only good 4 yrs max. So!!! Being a Hardcore 2530 user I can state that after doing all the MODS that unless you change that Batt, all kinds of weird stuff will happen. Usual signs they say is PC time will change. BULL!! I had 2 2530p sitting for last year and wouldnt boot with BIOS problems, and all kinds of weird sh**t.
Went down to welkmart and got 5 Batterys for $1.49. and now they both run like jack the bear. The thing is, the date, time .clock thing will keep running on a low battery, but there is not enough juice to feed the goods from the BIOS to the OS for a stable boot. Corrupts boot order or whatever!
Hope this helps out.
Cheers and Beers!
EDIT!
When putin new RTC Bat. Take out main battery first.Pull keyboard and find RTC batt on left. Push RTC Bat to Right and it pops out. Leave all for at least 15 minutes. When you have keyboard layed back on palmrest, run over the keys carefully. Also hold down the power button. This will dump any residule charge in capacitors.Put in new RTC Batt. Start PC on A/C power first. After Boot and running, put in main Battery. Then restart to Esc BIOS. On reboot you will get screen says F1 to reset factory defaults,do it.WAIT!! next screen says accept reset fingerprint reader. accept all.Boot to windows, let It load .Then boot to BIOS and make any settings you need, EG ambient light etc. Well! Thats close anyway!!! DO IT!! -
Hello again. I've tried EVERYTHING. I've also dowgraded to the FIRST bios version available for the laptop (F.03) to no avail: cpqamt ALWAYS locks up on its let's say welcome screen with a blinking cursor.
On a chinese forum I've found a different method to unlock the descriptor (1 + 3 + left arrow + right arrow + winkey) but it doesn't work neither.
Apart from this, I believe that the command
cpqamt read vpro_state
shouldn't need the descriptor to be unlocked so I'm confident that the problem resides elsewhere. Is it possible that there isn't anyone out there who could try cpqamt on his/her 2530p and tell me if it works for him/her? It's only a matter of seconds and there isn't even the minimum risk of doing anything bad to the laptop. Please help! I'm desperate! -
Hello everyone, I have just bought some used HP2530P
This version has dvd drive, core 2 duo 1,86 and 1GB RAM. It's without HDD. Should I buy some disk 1,8" or buy HDD caddy and put some 2,5" ?
-
Get 1.8" SSD, regular hard drives of that size are really slow. I know that, because I have one in my 2530p
I added 500GB HDD in caddy, one that had an extra usb too. Since that isn't my main portable computer, I'm not going to upgrade main drive to SSD, unless I come by one dirt cheap or free. -
Aha, but I mean I would buy some SSD 2,5" , because they are cheaper and faster than those SSD 1,8". What is more, there are not many choices among 1,8"
I have Hitachi HGST 1TB 2,5" so I would buy some USB 3.0 external caddy for 2.5" SATA and use it as portable HDD. DVD drive isn't something necessary nowadays

This combo fits the 2530p perfectly (done myself) and it is future proof. What's more it is probably cheaper than any decent 1.8" SSD.
The SSD ist as fast as their grown up SATA2 sisters, and you can always recycle it with a normal MSATA to SATA2 adapter and use it like a std. SATA2 SSD. -
Well... I actually have one 32GB msata ssd around. I was going to get usb case for it but that sounds also a doable idea.

hey guys, how can I use this fingerprint reader on Windows 7 64x? I downloaded Bioscrypt VeriSoft Access Manager but it doesnt work...
ok, I found some solution, maybe someone will need it:

Does buying this adaptor require caddy for 1,8' HDD (I bought my HP without it) ?
