Hi nando4. after knowing that 2540p has a display port, then it might be converted to DVI or HDMI port, so i may upgrade to 2540p with i7 cpu, so i will hit two birds by one stone; the DVI output for 1080p video watching and the power of i7 cpu processing. I will study my budget if i could upgrade to 2540p. But first i wanna know if The 2540p display port's bandwidth is capable to output the hi-data rate of the 1080p video thru a DVI adaptor without any loss of quality and without any lag in processing the video data thru that port? if so, i would appreciate if you can give me links for lowest prices deals for a USED 2540p laptop thru ebay. Thanks a lot

Might give a update to my eGPU progres (or lack off..)

    Finally got a GTS 450 at a reasonable price ($50) previously got a PE4H-EC2C for $40 and a xbox 360 psu for $$30

so all up cost of about $120.

First thing was to desolder the PSU leads. I could have left then or cut the wires but as I want a small case for the lot they had to go.

Next was to make a custom case to hold all this. Considering the brushed aluminium look of the 2530p I wanted a similar look to mine.

Currently sourcing some aluminium off cuts to make this.

    Pics to come soon.

Final product will hold the GFX card, xbox360psu and if possible an additional laptop power supply. Possiblly a fan as well.

I was never one to like cables so I want a single AC power coming in , and then a DC to the laptop and Mini HDMI to the express card slot.

    INFO: How to disable VPRO</style>

It may be desirable to disable VPRO because:

    1. You want to free some resources

    2. You see a "ME Initialization..." halting message during BIOS boot but don't have a DHCP server available to implement this fix.

The way to disable VPRO is:

    1. Create a USB DOS bootdisk and install the HP DMIFIT utilities on it.

    2. Shutdow system. Ensure your DMIFIT USB stick is in the USB drive.

    3. Press and hold WIN+Left_arrow+Right_arrow while simulatenously pressing the power button of the 2530P. This unlocks the AMT descriptor. Now hit F9 and select the USB stick for boot.

    4. Now type:
    Code:
    cpqamt write unlock
    cpqamt write off
    5. Reboot the system and will no longer has AMT issues since it's turned off.

Pics will start coming soon, shops to get the aluminium are still closed. so hopefully next week i'll have somethign to show.

btw nando, the WWAN card is working! nothign wrong with hardware, it was the "3" profile that was wrong, for some reason it had a DNS setup that was not needed, i set it to 0.0.0.0 (ie disabled) and connected and surfed the net with no issues!

How are the temps with the ULV version? I hated the noise from my 2530p (sl9400) although the noise from my 8460p (Radeon version) is a little bit worse.

Good to hear the MC8780 works fine as it did for me. Look forward to seeing your DIY eGPU enclosure project pics :D

I ran my L9400 undervolted ([email protected]) and used HPfan to alter the fan trip points. It was completely silent when running on battery. See 2530P undervolting. HPfan is available as part of setPLL. If the fan is still triggering after this then consider a CPU repaste. HP's replacement systemboards are shipped with the thick Shin-Etsu paste which works great.

I think I just accidentally one.

Gonna pick it up on sunday evening. Pretty much perfect condition in pictures and still some warranty left. I also managed to haggle price a little bit, so it was pretty close to what I would have bought from eBay and then obtained FIN/SWE keyboard separately.

/me is a happy camper right now

Drove 400km last night to pick this 2530p and another 8510w for my cousin. Today I've installed Win7, updated whitelisted bios and then installed Sierra Wireless MC8305.

    Even the GPS works.

For the record the correct screw for the WWAN card is M2.5x4MM. I got some on eBay for a few dollars.

No idea why the manual has the wrong specs...

.. and it's not the same screw as holds down the wifi card. However, can use the screws used on the back plastic plates or the metal bracket that holds down the HDD to secure the WWAN card down.

EDIT: Only need 1 screw on the HDD cover and 1 on the WWAN card to hold it down so can do the job, at least temporarily.

Just bought a 2530p off Ebay! L9400, 128GB SSD(!!), 6GB ram for $360, not bad at all =D the 6 cell battery even holds a decent charge!

Only negative so far is that i guess it came from a smoker's house, so the thing has a pretty strong cigarette smell. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

If you dare to take it apart, you could clean all the parts separately. If nothing else, take the cooler out and clean it. Heatsink collects dust, in this case it's probably really nasty stuff and it spreads the smell everywhere. A good moment to replace thermal paste too.

Ozone generator is used on cars to remove smell. Contact some company that does such treatments and ask if you can leave your laptop in one such car overnight :D

Worth checking too if the smell is concentrated on the keyboard from the smoker's fingers. Replacement keyboards can be had for low $$ and are easily replaced. If it's atmospheric smoke that's soaked into the plastic then +1 KLF's suggestion.

Also look into negative ion generators, cheap (about $20 or so) and they produce ozone as well, just in smaller volumes

Thanks for the suggestions! Since the laptop still has a few months of warranty left, I chatted with HP support yesterday and got them to agree to replace the fans (it does make a bit of a clicking noise) and keyboard/touchpad for me for free! Since the touchpad is attached to the palmrest, I'm assuming they'd replace the entire palm rest.

I will see if that helps when they are done; if not I will try the the ozone/ion thing.

Im pretty excited about this laptop, as the SSD gets 200/180 read/write, and I can still get 4-5 hours on the 6 cell batt =D

    I guess I'm lucky... being able to run 6x and 7x @ 0.9000 volt (SL9400-1.86GHz)

...which brings me 3.5 hours on a 40% wear 6-cell

Unusual that your L9400 can run SuperLFM at 0.9000V. Every single L9400 I've seen had a minimum of 0.925V.

Using Throttlestop instead of RMClock will get you a little more battery life since it runs more efficiently. You'll get more gains in battery life if you follow the 2530P undervolting recipe.

WARNING! Do not upgrade your bios past the F.13!

    EDIT: CONFIRMED - it's a trap. See http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...7x0-85x0-6x10-27x0p-25x0p-10.html#post8336168 .

Newest Elitebook bios prevents rollback to previous versions AND detects modifications. So you'll lose the key features of the modded F.13 2530P bios: no-whitelist, dual-IDA which are far more valuable than what HP are offering as fixes. You won't be able to get those features back unless you get a systemboard and/or BIOS chip replacement with an older bios allowing modded F.13 flashing. Easier is to NOT upgrade the bios past F.13 to begin with.

My Vista 2530p was already SLIC 2.1.

If you read the BIOS release notes, all it says is "Provides improved security for the BIOS flashing process."

Dear 2530p owners, I have a weird problem, I hope someone can help me.

-I have an HP 2530P Elitebook laptop, and I would like to upgrade it with a WWAN module.
-I bought a HP un2400 EVDO UMTS HSDPA 3g Card on ebay, which is the factory supported WWAN card for HP 2530P.
-The installation went successful, I inserted my SIM, and I can access the internet through the WWAN card, everything works fine, but I'm not able to shutdown the laptop anymore.

-This means when I click to the shutdown button, the shutdown process starts, but when the process finish the leds go off, and after 2-3 secs, the laptop restarts again.
-When I pull out the WWAN card from the mini pci-e slot, the laptop able to shutdown normally.
-I also tried with two bootable operating system, the shutdown->restart problem also occurs here, so I'm sure it's not an operating system related problem.
-I have the latest F20 bios installed.

Thanks for your help and ideas in advance.

Does anyone have an issue with the screen resolution on the docking station? At home I have a 1920x1080 monitor, in my office I have another dock with a 1920x1200 monitor. I sleep the laptop, use it out of the dock, put it back and then the external monitor is stuck on 1600x1200 and I can't change it to the correct resolution. Reboot and it works again. I can use the internal monitor + external 1920x1200 monitor at the same time after a fresh boot.

Hi guys! My 2530p motherboard has gone kaput and hp is replacing it. My laptop had the sl9400 motherboard but I can ask for a differente one since my machine has failed a lot (2 screens, one hard drive, one fan assembly, one power on bar and finally one motherboard) Do you guys recommend the su9400 or the sl9600? I want my machine to be near silent! Is the ULV battery life much longer? What about temps? I dont use it for intensive stuff and virtual box under linux (win XP guest) might be my most taxing activity.

The U9400 will in theory get slightly better battery life given it runs a 800Mhz FSB and lowest VID will be 0.9V. A L9600 runs at 1066Mhz FSB and lowest VID will be 0.925. When you undervolt there's not a lot b/w them. I personally would get the L9600 and enjoy the significantly better resale value of it. It will be more noticable than the slightly lower battery life.

One other worthwhile point. If you want to be able to flash the modded F.13 bios then ensure your new systemboard has F.13 or older bios. Newer F.20 does not allow rollback. *some* 2530P units have a socketted chip so the engineer can just swap in your old bios in it's place if need be. It's sad that HP's bios engineers (saboteurs?) have added code to prevent us being able to rollback to the modded F.13 with no wifi/WWAN whitelist and and dual-IDA overclock as of bios F.20 bios and newer. The modded features do add to the resale value of these systems.

I would get SL9600. I have used ULV Core2 Duo before and they are really slow. C2Ds will clock down to 800mhz when you are idling and I don't think there will be much difference in terms of battery. Faster CPU = shorter time to get work done = better battery life.

    Hi All

I just got myself a used HP2530p - as a second pc to my normal HP2510p rig. I'm planning to upgrade it from Windows Vista to W7 Ultimate 64Bit - and I see that as no challenge. BUT I had in mind of upgrading the machine from 4GB ram to 8GB (at least the specs say this baby can handle it). My question is: How do I go about this upgrade? I noticed only one expansion slot that contains the 4GB ram. Is there another slot hidden somewhere? The same machine has an 80Gb SSD (Intel) which I'm happy to keep working on, although I have a Samsung SSD (128Gb) available and contemplating if I should change...

Any help is worth more than its weight in diamonds.

    Manny

Congrats on the purchase. 2530P is an exceptionally good s/h buy. Amazing to think that it first came out in 2008 and is in many ways superior to ultrabooks (expandability - dock/batteries, SSD+HDD capable, expresscard slot, non-chiclet kb, matte 16:10 LCD, internal WWAN, business grade build). I'd suggest flashing the modded bios on the first page to get a free 266Mhz dual-IDA overclock too.

If your 128GB SSD is an older Samsung 1.8" SSD then you'll find the Intel X18M (G1/G2) will outperform by 3-5 times in 4kb Q=32 multithreaded reads. The second RAM slot requires lifting the keyboard to gain access.

I have a 2530p with a weird problem ; when docked in a docking station if it goes to screen saver mode then coming out the lan password does not work ; i have to power down (sleep) and power back up which takes about 20 seconds and then the lan password works.

This does not happen outside the docking station... i also checked to see if maybe the keyboard was sending random characters instead of my correct lan password and used the virtual keyboard on the screen but no change. The moment it powers back up the same password works.

How long do you wait? There are some group policy to wait for the network on login. What error do you have in the event log?

Did somebody overclock the sl9400 and undervolted it at the same time? Mine runs @ 0.925, but I want a little bit more speed.
1 negative point about the 2530p is the display, after 3 years, i have to set the brightness @ 100% all the time, because it became darker.

    Hello,
I wanted to get a SSD for my Elitebook 2530p. She should have a size of 256 GB. What can you recommend and what you have for which?
I have already looked and following have come to the narrower choice:
    - Samsung => MZUPA256HMDR or MMDPE56GTDXP
    - KingSpec => KSD-MS18.1-256MJ
    - Kingston => SVP180S2/256G
    - Micron => RealSSD C400 256GB
    - Super Talent =>MasterDrive KX3 256GB

    Thank you very much!
    Greeting
    chris-bs

Finally I was able to ov my 2530p with the sl9400 too. I used nandos F.13 whitelist Bios and throttlestop ( unfortunately it won't work with rightmark). Its running now with 2,13 Ghz @0.965V and 50°C idle temp.

Can some1 tell me about usual idle temps? I don't know if this is too high. Ususally I had 43°C @ lfm-mode.

    Hey guys,

    i have 2 quick Questions.
    1. I recently disassembled my 2530p, but it seems that I accidently loosened 2 cables from the switch cover (the one with the touc-buttons) The 2 switch cover has 2 connectors, 1 with 3 cables and 1 with ~12. So I loosened 2 from the 3 cable-connector (brown+black), but everything still works fine. Does anybody know what this 3 cable connector is for?

    2. My BT-Module doesnt work anymore, did any1 experience problems with this or with the latest whiteliste bios-version?

My 2530p has about 47 ºC undervolted to .925v (1.86ghz) but it is very noisy. I did not remember it was like this. I shoul have asked for the su9300 motherboard :(

    Hi,
I bought Samsung 128Gb uSATA SSD ( MZUPA128HMCD, MZ-UPA1280/0D1 ), originally OEM DELL model. Speed should be good - more than 220G/s
But do not work well with HP 2530p.
Booting time is more than I expected such speed.
Notebook freeze many times. I think MZ-UPA128 is not compatible with HP 2530p
