Is it OK that I am able to lift the far left side of the switch cover of my 2530p or does it indicate that there is something broken:confused: I would like to make sure before I contact my dealer.

It's normal. Switch cover is fastened only with one screw, more on the right side. The cover is removed by sliding it slightly to the right and the tabs holding it in place aren't that big.

I tried and managed to lift cover easily. Then noticed some rattling noise inside... So I took once again my 2530p apart 5mins ago and eventually found one screw on my hdd caddy had become loose and ran around in a compartment. Nothing bad, just the timing made me first think I broke something ;)

Can anybody confirm if there is any working mSATA drivers working on HP 2530p installed and attached in any of this ports on motherboard.

    HP2530p with text -2012-11-10 19.58.43.jpg , HP2530p_second_2012-11-10 20.02.11.jpg .

I was thinking for upper left one. Bottom left one can be used, also. If any onther Wi-Fi card can work on upper right one. At the moment Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100 is not recognized in it, only working when is inserted in bottom left one.

If anybody can access the drive attached to any of this ports, can you confirm that it working and it is bootable. If anybody can provide link with actual manual for the motherboard will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

I realize this is somewhat old, but I just upgraded my 2510p to a 2530p and bought an aftermarket Samsumg 128 gb p800 SSD second generation Lenovo branded drive. No native trim support and lenovo never licensed the new firmware developed by corsair and samsung for this drive, so no official firmware update. However there is a third party firmaware, I beilieve from OCZ, that does work with a special hot plug in procedure that is very well outlined in this thread

Did mine yesterday and am now running VBM19C1Q firmware with TRIM support on my Samsung MMCRE28G8MXP-0VBL1 in my 2530p. Not the fastest drive on the planet but for the $80 I paid for it I'm really happy and have TRIM to boot :).

The updater and firmware can be found here

One posters step by step for the procedure he followed on his HP 6910p is pretty much what i did on my 2530p so here it is:

"THIS REQUIRES THAT HOTPLUGGING YOUR DRIVE DOES NOT CAUSE YOUR MACHINE TO REBOOT!
Ok, let me repeat, if you boot your machine from USB with your SSD out of the machine and plug in your hard drive and your machine does an automatic reboot, do not proceed, you will brick your drive until you get another machine to fix this. If your machine does not automatically reboot when plugging in the SSD at a DOS prompt, then you can proceed.
Boot to your usb with the drive in the laptop. (all other drives out and Compatibility set in bios, on HP machine DISABLE SATA Native Mode)

Run maindiag.exe, you will see the model/serial/firmware populated. (this is ok this time)
Choose Initialize Firmware (2) then Main Firmware (1), then (Q) to quit. (These steps will fail and that is ok, you just mismatched your drive and confused it which is what we want)
Turn off laptop and pull SSD hard drive out of laptop.
Reboot to USB drive (with no hard drive installed)
After you get to DOS prompt, hotplug in your SSD hard drive.
Run maindiag (model/serial/firmware will be blank this time) and choose (2)(Q)
Pull drive out with system on and hot plug again and
Run maindiag (model/serial/firmware will be blank this time) and choose (1)(Q)
Pull drive out with system on and hot plug again and
Run maindiag (model/serial/firmware will be blank this time) and choose (4)(Q)
Reboot to USB with SSD drive in and run maindiag, should see model/serial/firmware populated correctly. (VBM19C1Q)
Power off, change bios back to AHCI, restore system"

I do suggest you read through the entire thread listed above before proceeding so that you understand exactly what needs to be done and why rather than just following the above procedure

    Good luck

    PS: I LOVE THIS 2530p !!!

On another note, can anybody email me or post Nando's modded f13 dual IDA bios for the 2530p. His links have been removed and it is such an important upgrade for this machine. I specifically passed on two great deals on 2530's because they had their bios upgraded to the f20 knowing I wanted to do this upgrade. I now have a 2530 ready for modded bios but the bios link is gone :(

    Thanks

    OK, this is final solution!

    Easy way:
Download this and unpack with password shown below:
    Code:
Dropbox links temporary offline, will be up in approx. next 14 days
    Hard way:
To get the links, visit this URL:
    Code:
    http://lix.in/-cc62e8
Enter captcha and you should see two links. The first one is for netload, the other one for BillionUploads.
Now type the desired address from the picture to addressbar and confirm.
    Then click Continue.
Now you're on Peeplink. As password enter "bios"
After that you should see the desired link.

When downloading is complete, make sure you have the latest 7-Zip (open software) that support AES-256.
To unpack archive, use this 64 char password. Exchange last "g" with "A"
    Code:
    qcCCItm6aScUPmIakkR69j7VcVyOneEIu85YlvBNOltvp027lo0Q6NwjBIHqPXg
Done, now you should have the bios unpacked and ready.
This should last for a while :D

[MOD EDIT] No selling outside the marketplace!

    Is it somewhat copyright-protected?

No, I think. It does not violate anything, but bots that look for links that "might be copyrighted" never sleep. In fact I got banned on Mediafire some time ago by posting my own content. Harsh times :)

Feel free to upload it on Dropbox or Skydrive and give us link then if you think this is the wrong way to go. However my 4shared account was banned along with Mediafire account so I don't think that solution would last long.
EDIT: I've added Dropbox as "easy way". I thought of it before I just didn't want to lose the account.

    From 4shared I got this:
    Subject: Service abuse
"We have received a notification that certain materials you posted on the 4Shared website as described below infringe upon someone else’s copyright"

so another generic copyright infringement notification..

MediaFire was different case with different files which I actually "owned copyright for". Nonetheless my account got reported and suspended.

No one can ever claim to own the copyright to a modded BIOS file. That in itself is a copyright infringement. Nor can anyone even sell a modded BIOS file as that too is a copyright infringement.

Nobody is doing that so I really don't know why you brought this up.

Netload and BU are down again. I took out the link in dropbox as I have some important files in that account and I don't want to lose them. I'll probably set up new account soon. In the meantime, I'll provide the bios through PM.
(So I guess somebody is reporting these links manually. With enough support, the reporting IPs could be tracked and banned.)

Actually, someone is doing that. The one who reported your links to those files is none other than the OP himself. He incorrectly thinks that the modded BIOS files are his property when in fact it's the property of HP. It should be a community resource. As for charging for them, I noted a few instances of posters being asked to pay a fee to gain access to certain files from the OP himself.

So now you know who's been reporting your links. And knowing is half the battle. :)

Yes! $20 contribution. Need help please. Power board not working on reassembly after cleaning. When sliding to left for final positioning, it shuts machine off and when installed (seems to fit correct) pushing Power ON gives flashing, washed out Blue light on front LED on power icon, then one flash on power button and one flash on left quicklaunch button, then quits. If board installed sitting higher than intended, any pressure on board shuts machine off when in windows. What am I missing here?
    THX in advance!!!!

It isn't supposed to work. If you insist using it, downgrade to 2510p that supports s-video out. Otherwise you are stuck vith VGA connection.

Too bad 2530p doesn't offer a digital video output either. I'd really like that.

    hello!
Nice to meet You all. Great forum.
I have a problem with my hp2530p . Hope someone could help me.
I wanted to downgrade Bios of my HP 2530p and I swaped Bios from another notebook ( 2530p). After that both notebooks can't start the system form HD . I can enter the bios , run in bios tests etc.. but windows is not loading. I swaped back the bios chips and system still is not loading.
I'v flashed both notebooks to newer bios versions , reset bios by removing RTC battery , checked serial and product numer HPSETCFG and it still doesn't work.
System is loading only when I go to bios , then make a hdd test ( wait 10%) and exit test , exit bios . After this Windows is loading and it works until I remove battery or disconect power.
When system is not booting two leds blink on a panel "A" and "1"
Could You help me please :)

    Hi Andrew479,

I just bough a 2930p (yes I'm late to the game but this was the best option in my budget). I've searched far and wide for the dual-IDA modded BIOS but every link I find is a dead end. Would you please be so kind as to email a copy to me? I'm really hoping to get the most out of this laptop and it seems that BIOS is a great upgrade. Thanks in advance for anything you can do. smithgrind909 *nospam* @gmail.com

PS - Any other forum subscribers that might want to help would be highly appreciated. THANKS!

    Hi guys,
I've upgraded from 2510p to 2530p, pleased with both of them, but have a weird but apparently not so rare problem with 2530p - there is absolutely no brightness controll, nothing in system (Win7 Pro N x64 SP1) or with fn+F9, F10 keys . Ambient sensor works, manual setting doesn't. I've read on few other forums this is a Bios fault - my version is 68PSU F.06. Now my question: did anyone had this problem and solved it with F.12 of F.13 modded Bios? HP's solution is upgrade to F.0A - would this upgrade be OK or will I have problems later if I wanted to go with modded Bios?
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hey there!
I used F.13 modded BIOS and had no problems with brightness control with win 7 64bit Home Premiun. You need a later version than F.06 to work with Win 7 properly.
I need to know if anyone knows how or has a link showing how to get the BIOS chip out of the socket. I mean " How do you OPEN the Black Retainer to pop the chip out"
    Thanks in advance.

    Greetings,

I had a working 2530p but then decided to upgrade (F.22) the firmware. The update went fine, but upon reboot the screen is blank and caps lock blinks. I have tried various methods including holding down all arrow keys, trying to reflash, removing battery power, hard drives, memory etc. but it is DEAD. I have read some Crisis Recovery instructions which refer to .PHL files (for Phoenix BIOS) or using USB floppy but this does not seem to apply to this model.

Does anyone have any suggestions before it goes to landfill?
    Thanks.

Try starting by holding down Win key +arrow right and arrow left, then Power button while holding all. If it lights off, you probably got Intel AMT problems. Having similar problem after F.22 update.
Luck!!!! P.S. I tried new preprogramed BIOS chip with F.11 and got the 4 flash (graphics controller failure) caps lock flashing code, so back to original chip and 4 finger start.

Thanks. I tried it, but not luck at all. When I first plug it in (with or without buttons pressed) it immediately starts up, then off, then on with the two lights right of display LED flashing. Then it restarts again, then returns to just LED right of display flashing.

Extremely frustrated by this and I think HP should be held responsible and repair it free of charge.

Could someone point me to a picture to show where the display / antenna wiring is supposed to go? I removed it and am having trouble getting the switch cover back on. Even on Youtube it's difficult to see exactly how the wires are tucked into each other.

Lay the wires out as they come out of the screen side by each.Take the nearest wire to the center of the laptop and lay in channel closest to the screen and progress towards you. Go To: HP Drivers and Support. Enter Model 2530p. Select 2530p energy star. On left columne you will see Manuals. Click that and download Maintainance and Service Manual and save to Documents.Search in there. Make sure you get the Video cable tucked down as tight (low) as you can get it or you will have trouble installing the Power Button Board.
    Cheers!

My Elitebook has slowed down to a crawl taking more than a minute just to start up. I've tried fresh installed Win7, Ubuntu and Xubuntu but nothing seems to help.

Any suggestion which OS should I try to install to keep this laptop running? Do not intend to add new hardware to it. Mainly using it to surf internet and edit documents.

The display on my 2530 has started occasionally "fading out" and going to all dots. A quick google search makes me think that the video chip may be going. The 3-year extended warranty I got expired a year ago. Is this an expensive fix? I fear that it probably is. Does it mean replacing the cpu? Anyone have an idea of what it might cost to have hp do it? The local laptop repair store? Can it be done by technically competent but not experienced with fixing laptops me? Your advice would be appreciated - I love this little laptop and would like to keep it. Or move to a refurbished latest model (with windows 7).
