The DC2 8560w is listed in the specs as being thicker that the non-dc2 8560p, so my gut would say no.

You coupl probally put the 1080p screen in though?

I am finally a "real" member of the owners lounge, because my 8560p LG732EA just arrived.

it looks great, just as I expected.

right now i am struggling with the multitouch gestures, but i'm sure i will find out how they work...

Are there any important driver updates or BIOS changes that are recommended ?

Hi, i just registered to reply on this. I have the model with Intel HD Graphics (LG732ET). I'm not happy at all with the fan noise. The cpu fan makes too much noise. More a whining noise..
I disabled it via TPFancontrol. But you can only run the fan at full load or disable it (maybe running at very low speed - at least not noticable).
I have also Core Temp to keep an eye on the cpu temperature. But the temp goes to 75 degrees celcius without a problem. So in most cases disabling the cpu fan is not a real problem with this laptop.

But to be honest. HP can do a better job in thermal control. The 6550b runs almost completely silent. I would expect the same on this (higher) model.

I have also the hitachi hdd, which is also not too silent. I replaced it now with a Crucial M4 SSD. Now i cannot hear anything (no disk no cpu fan - system is now completely silent).

    Sorry for my bad english.

    greets

    Hey,

    i have 3 questions:

    1. did anyone that has the notebook with integrated graphics only, tried to use a DisplayPort->HDMI adapter? As i read about such adapters i see that the graphics card recognizes it somehow and simply passes HDMI signals and the adapter passively forwards them...
so i want to make sure intel hd3000 supports this.

    2. is it possible to buy the elitebook without discrete grpahics card, but simply add one later? and is there an option to buy a card different than the suggested AMD one?

    3. is there a simple access to the cpu for future manual upgrade? i read that on the workstation model hp used a different motherboard for dual & quad core, is this also the case here?

    thank you very much!

    I can answer 2,3.

    2. No the GPU is soldered to the motherboard, you have to changed the whole board, not to tricky to do but expensive.

    3. very easy I didn't even boot mine before swapping out the CPU, I could wait for the w's to come out so I put a quad in my p.

Now testing the 8560p with i5-2520m and HD3000 graphics.

The fan turns on less often, and it's noise is more agreable than before (i5*2540m and AMD). I'm still a little bit disappointed that the fan turns on from time to time even with very little CPU load. Yesterday a friend showed a Macbook Pro to me which was virtually noise-free... It would be great to have this in the windows world, too.

I have just noticed that if i look on my Display (AUO) from below, in black text passages every few letters there seems to be a red or blue "halo" around the letters. It is a repeating Pattern, some letters appear normal (black), and then some have a Blue halo, then again some normal letters and then the letters get a red surrounding. It happens even at slight angles, not more than 15-20° downwards.

Question: Is this normal ? Or did I (or HP) screw up any adjustments ?

@michael.go I just got my DisplayPort/HDMI cable an it worked flawless out of the box, including Audio. I have a LG732EA with integrated HD3000 graphics.

Having some issues with the Graphics card. We recently bought 6 brand new HP EliteBook 8560P laptops that have an AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics processor. Exact model is XU063UT.

I created an image using the most recent graphics driver located on the HP drivers website. Everything before image creation worked fine.

I sysprep'd and captured, then deployed the image to a 2nd laptop. Everything looked good until it got to the "Windows is preparing your computer for first use" message. It proceeded to the "Setup is checking your video performance" message where it then sits there for hours. HOURS. I eventually got tired of waiting and tried powering down the laptop and rebooting, for which is then gives an error something along the lines of Windows setup cannot continue, and will restart, infinitely.

So I figured I would instead try the official driver from AMD, rather than the HP driver package. So I go to their website and download the ATI Catalyst Mobility display driver package for Win7 x64:

    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

So when I try to load the AMD driver setup is simply errors out saying:

"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter".

This certainly doesnt seem right. I've always been able to go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. Something seems a muck here. Anyone else experience problems like this?

    Hello,

I'm the proud owner of a new 8560p LG736EA (I7-2620M, HD+ 1600x900, 4 GB RAM, Ati Radeon 6470M, 128 GB SSD, win7 pro64) bought yesterday for around 1444 euros (in Romania). Right now I'm just staying and starring at this beautiful machine! :)

In couple of days I will start to customize, but for this moment I have one question:

I was under impression that this LG736EA has the keyboard light available and on when Ambiance Sensor is enabled and the environment lightning is low. But it seems that nothing is happening. Someone has any idea why it is not working or should I install / activate something else in BIOS or Win7 ?

Thanks in advance for your advices and please, I don't mind if someone would congratulate me for the acquisition ;-)

    Regards,
    Dan.

CONGRAT'S to your new machine... i was in your position 6 weeks ago and remember how i felt... ( I started smiling when i entered the room my 8560p was in and saw it lying around... ;-)

Your question: The p-Model has a keyboard light, but no backlighted keyboard. It is the small black sqare to the right of the webcam. you have to press on the light sensor (which is the middle part of the webcam-sensor-light area) to activate it. Apart from that the Light sensor only controls screen brightness.

Have fun with your machine... :D

Anyway, thank you for your reply.

Another question: anyone has some monitor profile for calibrating the colors?

    Thank you again.

Are you looking for ICC profile? If so, you can grab it from this review. Review HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

Oh btw I've searching on the net to see if it is possible to replace keyboard in 8560P with backlit keyboard from 8560W. My understanding is that both models, apart from obvious color differences, use the same chassis and share many components. Seeing that keyboard in 8560P already can draw power from motherboard, (num/caps lock light) it seems very likely that two parts are exchangeable with no modification.

However, HP parts sales rep whom I've chatted yesterday said that backlit keyboard on 8560W (American English keyboard - 652683-001) is not compatible with my model. Also due to high price ($120)/limited availability of parts, I'm bit hesitant to try it right away.

Well just because I supposedly shell out 1.4k (it was actually under 1k btw) that doesn't mean I would buy a relatively overpriced part (xps backlit keyboard sells for $30ish) that I have no immediate need for. Also like I said the compatibility is not guaranteed either. Maybe some will find that price reasonable; I don't.

    Hi

I just got the 8560p and so far I like it very much.
    However I'm experiencing some problems:
    1. I made clean install of Windows 7 and installed most of the drivers, however in the System Manager I still have an unknown device on PCI bus. What is this device?
    2. I can't change brightness of the screen manually, i tried to disable the light sensor but I still couldn't adjust the brightness manually. So any ideas how to manually adjust screen brightness?

EDIT: I solved the issue 2 with installation of the HP driver for the video card instead of the official AMD driver.

    Thx in advance.

FIr3cell// I think it's safe to rule out wlan and gpu driver as you would've certainly noticed if either devices were not working. My guess is that your laptop is missing either USB 3.0 controller or media card reader driver.

click on properties on those devices, click details tab and there check the hardware id, it will look like this:
    Code:
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9581&SUBSYS_30C5103C&REV_00
try googling those strings or post them here

    Hi
I just received my 8560p (i7-2620, 8GB, 500GB HDD) and made a clean install of win 7 pro. However, after all the required windows and driver updates I found Windows booting up rather slow for a clean, new machine with those specs.
Windows event viewer shows me the boot up time with between 65 and 78s for the full boot process.
I don't have any resourceful software installed (only HP Connection manager and HP Power manager, Opera, XnView).
What are your boot up times on non-SSD systems?

I'm almost considering another try of a clean install and possibly erasing those HP Recovery and HP Tools partitions. Anyone experience with erasing those partitions?

Generally I'm quite happy with the notebook. Build quality is excellent, a little large in size maybe but I knew that. Screen is great, fan noise is audible in normal work tasks but not annoying, heat is well managed, trackpad is excellent.

I assume those can be removed completely - I've deleted recovery partition on my 8510p long time ago. You lose ability to do full recovery, however you sound like an advanced user so I think you won't even use it.

Thanks, MuF. Thought the same, that the recovery partition won't really be essential. Still not sure about the Tools partition as it seems to have somewhat to do with the fancy BIOS menu that this HP uses.

On the negative side I have to point out the keyboard arrangement: The enter key is rather small (smaller than the SHIFT key) and can be missed easily in frantic typing. Also as someone else pointed out before, the numeric keypad is a bit too close to the other keys. And the little keyboard light on top of the screen is more or less a joke - not sure why HP even bothered.

I do really like the little shortcut buttons for sound, browser and calculator (I first laughed at this, but it's actually very convenient)

IMHO BIOS must be operational regardless of any partitions on HDD. Try removing HDD from system and then boot it into bios setup.

After a week of playing around with the new notebook I've found that Lightscribe is not working:

According to the specs the 8560p should be equipped with Lightscribe and the appropriate software comes with it. However, Lightscribe does not recognize my drive, even after the latest update.
Also there is no Lightscribe logo on the drive or on the computer (as far as I can see), which is supposed to inidicate Lightscribe drives according to the HP website.
Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone with a Lightscribe drive that does not display a logo?

Not that not having Lightscribe is a huge minus but as it's supposed to be included nontheless...

I find the fingerprint log-in rather cool, so I want to keep the ProtectTools. Anyway, something seems to slow my Elitebook down, like Firefox taking two minutes to boot. No CPU peaks, no RAM outage. I presume it might be related to me having the full "protection suite" activated. Which module may it be?

    Hi there,

I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, I have just got the 8560P from work but they seem to have the default lower resolution screen and wondered if you have any links on what screen to replace this and how to change it?

    Thanks

I found the problem with the slowdown. Fixed by waiting for the ProtectTools to finish drive encryption...

Now what about the HP_* partitions? I would like to add some extended partition for Linux. Which of the HP_* partitions can safely be removed? (Obviously my 8560p has no Recovery Manager, so I assume HP_RECOVERY is useless for me?)

    Hi everybody,

I just recently discovered this forum. I have an 8560p with a 2.7GHz 2620m, Radeon 6470m, and the Hitachi 320gb hdd.

I see that there are some issues with fan noise and I must say mine is quite loud as well. I brought it up to the hp technician we have around and he tried to tell me that the machine has a very strong fan to cool the high powered components, and that the surface that the notebook is on will sometimes cause it to generate more noise.
I recently noticed that at maximum fan speed, the excessive noise will occasionally diminish, and the fan sounds more like it should. Most of the time, it sounds as is its vibrating or hitting something. I'm going to talk to the technician again and I'll keep you guys updated.

Also, I see that the question of SATA II and III support was brought up multiple times. I am also wondering if these machines have support for SATA III, whether for the primary bay or the upgrade bay. Does anyone have an answer?

for me, I do clean windows reinstall on my own, I don't do any "recoveries", so that's why I will wipe the drive as the first thing to do.

hp recovery will recover your pc to state as when you bought it.

windows recovery can rollback bad driver installation, bad other software installation that prevents windows from booting. it will rollback some changes, but it the windows stays as it was, more or less.

Hi I just bought an EliteBook 8560p (LG731ET) i5 2540m at 2.6 GHz, and have some questions.
I have a 320 GB 7200 rpm HDD and want to replace it with a Crucial M4.

Does anyone do this ? Any issue with this change ?
It seems that the chipset QM67 has a major bug with SATA III SSDs ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardwa...does-not-recognize-my-SSD/td-p/827647/page/1).

I have a HD display 1366x768 and want to change it with a HD+ (1600x900) or FHD model (1920x1080).
I checked the brand and model of my display with Aida64 (Display/Monitor), it seems to be a Chi Mei M156B6-L0A CMO15A1.

If you have a HD+ or FHD display, could you please try this software and tell me what is your monitor name ?

    Hello fellow Elitebook owners,

Has anyone been able to fix the fan noise issues with 8560p? I tried Speedfan, and it will show me the temperatures, but there does not seem to be option to actually control the fans. I also tried to install TPfancontrol to do the trick, but was only able to get core fan to run on full speed - didn't try to tweak the settings too much yet though.

If someone could have any advice on making this notebook a bit more silent, I would be very happy. I bought the machine for mobile audio work, and I have been very disappointed on how badly the noise issues have been handled by HP.

I agree. With TPFanControl set to bios mode, the fan runs on a constant, very slow speed. This is acceptable, but the fan will continue to run at this speed regardless of load. Temperatures on the laptop are about 40 - 50 C, and while the normal idle fan speed is fine, I find it annoying that it has to cycle every now and then. Even worse, it seems that it tends to spike up in speed before slowing, as opposed to a gentle increase in fan speed when needed. I have a base model i5 with AMD if you are interested.

Hi, I bought a HP EliteBook 8560p some days ago. For the disturbing fan noise I found a remedy (not perfect but quite good):

When you enter these commands in the command line (run as admin), you will get additional CPU power settings within the advanced power settings:

    powercfg -attributes SUB_PROCESSOR 7b224883-b3cc-4d79-819f-8374152cbe7c -ATTRIB_HIDE
    powercfg -attributes SUB_PROCESSOR 4b92d758-5a24-4851-a470-815d78aee119 -ATTRIB_HIDE

Fan behaviour of EliteBook 8560p when plugged in and when on... - HP Support Forum

Within these settings I adjusted the behaviour under AC according to the behaviour when on battery. It seems to me that the fan activity is reduced, although from time to time the fan still starts spinning like a bolt from the blue.

Well, my EliteBook works with the Radeon HD 6470 M video card. What would happen if I deactivate this graphic card via the device manager? Would the PC automatically use the cpu internal video resources? Or would the screen go black and no way to activate the graphic card again? Does this graphic card come with an own, second fan?

Someone wrote here that the tool TPFanControl would allow to deactivate the fan completly and this would not hurt the notebook. Is this correct?

What do you think: Would HP issue an improved BIOS (UEFI) when we ask for the implementation of a better fan behaviour ("gentle increase in fan speed when needed")?

P.S. In the meantime I asked HP for an update of the BIOS. Let's see what they respond...

BTW: Is it only the EliteBook 8560p with ATI Radeon HD 6470 M video card which troubles some users and the other 8560p's without additional ATI video card do not make these problems?
What is about other HP EliteBooks, e.g. the 8460p (14'')?

Does anybody know how to modify the 8560p DSDT file in order to change the "thermal zones"...?

    Hi there,

im planning to buy me a elitebook8560p.
Currently i own a 2540p and i am very happy with it.
But my work has changed, so i need a bit more power and display.

but, before i invest my money in a new notebook, there are some questions
    left to ask...

    1. Which kind of RAM do i need to buy?
i want the notebook from my retailer with 2gb ram, so i can do the upgrade
to 16 gb on my own (maybe cheaper?)

    2. what about a SSD? Can i use any of them?

    3. What about the AMD Graphic Card, is it good enough for light tasks in CAD?

    4. Fan Speed... Is this issue fixed in the new bios version?

    thanx in advantage...
