    Hi there,

today I've been kindly informed by the HP Softpaq Download Manager that BIOS Version f.22 is now available for the 8560p. See here (German website).

Unfortunately the new BIOS version does NOT solve the fan issue. My unit is still roaring like a vacuum cleaner :(

    best.

    what are your idle temps?

    cpu and gfx card?

If the fan is really loud i would look at other possible causes, my 8740w can encode video without the fan going to max, so i'm a bit worried that there are so many users with fan problems!

let me know your temps and i'll see if i can help

    Sio

    Hey Sio,

idle core temps between 42-45°, sometimes up to 50° (according to speedfan), that's about when the fan is kicking in.
    cpu is an i5 2540
    LG732EA#ABF
    graphic: intel onboard
    Windows Pro 64/4GB RAM
    BIOS f.22

I read about problems with the thermal pasting in the 8560 w units. See here. Could that be a reason for the weird fan behaviour in the 8560p line?

    thanks for your help.

    Hey guys.
I'm new as a IT manager and need some advice.

I've purchased three top spec 8560p (LG736EA#ABN models), and trying to get them up to date drives me crazy. Firstly the Windows install shipped with no updates, leaving me to download every Microsoft update since 2009 which took ages.

Then there is the story of updating the various HP software. Why are there preloaded 3 different tools to do the same thing, with even more available on HP's site? So far I have tried these which are all preloaded:

    HP Software Setup
    HP Support Assistant
    HP SoftPaq Download Manager

I have tried letting these do their jobs for several hours without ever finishing. They often hang and fail to install updates and so on. Which one do you recommend for business laptops?

Do you use HP Protect Tools and all its functions? So far I used this suite to encrypt the disks.

These computers come with 128 GB SSD. When booting these the first time there is only 63 GB free. After updating Windows and installing Office there is 46 GB left to use.

    WINDOWS folder is 25 GB
    HP_TOOLS partition is 5 GB
    HP_RECOVERY partition is 16 GB

I was hoping there would be at least 100 GB of usable memory in these machines.

    Do you have any advice?
    Thanks.

Have you tried the multibay HDD adapter? It might be useful to store files in there and run the OS from the ssd.

128GB SSD is like 119GB usable disk space.

Win 7 takes around 20GB disk space - with a vlite install it has been known to cut to 10GB or even less - if that is still a usable installation for a work environment is another matter.

HP tools partition can be deleted IMHO (take a snapshot, so that you can revert to an earlier state if needed)

HP recovery partition can be deleted IMHO

then take a look at the pagefile.sys - not much to be done about that, takes same size as the installed RAM if not tweaked (in my case: 16GB RAM => 16GB pagefile)

hiberfil.sys (sleepmode) takes the same amount as RAM, too = another 16GB in my case.

I used a 64GB SSD for quite a while, changed then because of VMs to a 128GB, which I used for over a year. Again because of VMs (and SATA 6GB) it´s now a 240GB model.
And to be honest... if not for the VMs the 64GB model would still be enough :)

Thank you for your advice guys! I will consider buying some multibay HDD adapters. I went ahead and deleted the HP partitions and did a clean install on my personal pc. 89 GB free after updating everything, it's a big improvement.

By the way, I found when installing Win7 from a USB disk, don't use the USB3 ports on the 8560p as the Win7 install will ask for a DVD/disc driver. May work if you include the USB3 driver though!

Now to get all the HP software. I decided to go with HP Support Assistant, but it doesn't seem to find everything if being run on a clean install. I think I will need to download and run the HP SoftPaq Download Manager to get everything. Or I can do it manually from the website I guess.

    Thanks again.

    Hello Everyone,

New to the site/board, came across trying to google issues on the 8560p. Still searching, but figured I'd ask here to see if anyone is aware of any issues with the 8560p where they are just not POST'in any longer. Would be working fine one day, then user would return next and it would be a brick. Black screen, won't post, just the white LED light on with a slight flicker.

These are being deployed to users within the last month where I work to replace older models and so far we have had at least 10 with the same symptoms.

So far the motherboards have been replaced on them to get them back up, then have to fight to get them back in a commited state after the board replacement.

Any info, links to info, etc would be appreciated!
    Thanks all!

Just registered to inform you all of a serious issue regarding 8560p and F.22 BIOS.

My machine came last friday with F.22 and I never managed to get the SSD (Corsair Force GT 128GB) to run in SATA3-mode. Intel RST said that it was SATA 3Gbit which it is not.

I found a post in the 8460p-thread that someone downgraded to F.20 and got back SATA3-mode. I did this with my 8560p as well and now it is running in great speeds as I was expecting from the start!

If you have SSD and 8560p, beware of F.22 BIOS!

    Hi,
I read notebookcheck.net review and ordered one, but - this one arrived with Samsung 156KT02-301 ID SEC5244 display instead of reviews LP156WD1-TLD3. Not really like this, low contrast, low brightness, bad colour (very redish).
    Can somebody suggest "better" display?

    Hi,
I just realized that Bluetooth is not enabled or existent in my 8560p LG735EA. According to the specs it should be included, but I can't find any entry in the device manager and the downloaded Broadcom bluetooth drivers claim that it doesn't find a bluetooth device.
Bluetooth is enabled in the Bios.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello to everyone.

I found a good deal regarding 8560p (i5-2540,4gb,320gb@7200,1366 screen,6cell,3years on site) and i am planning to buy it soon.
I read inside forums about specific keybord/touchpad issues and i want to know if these issues are solved i.e. with a software/driver/bios update or not.
There is no reason on buying a bussiness laptop if you can't use keybord and touchpad.
Is the 8560p a solid purchase? Besides basic performance, all i care about is having a laptop that works with no issues.

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure which keyboard or touchpad issues there are supposed to be. I'm not aware of any in discussions on this and have certainly not experienced any.
I had my 8560p with i7 2620 since almost a year now and am not regretting it, despite being a somewhat fussy buyer normally. Keyboard is excellent as is the touchpad. I have problems on my work laptop (ASUS) with the touchpad as my fingers don't seem to slide well there, on the HP it's all very smooth and responsive. Double finger gestures work okay (e.g. scrolling) and I use them, but I find them slightly too inexact.
The only downsides that I can note are the terrible sound, the missing backlit keyboard (the little pop-out light in the screen is a joke) and the apparently missing bluetooth in mine(see post above).

Thank you for this informative posting.

What do you mean by terrible sound? Do you refer to the integrated speakers? I hope that with external speakers sound isn't as awful as you say.

The missing Bluetooth module is really weird. Are you absolutely sure there is none?

No, the sound is only bad using the integrated speakers. It's very metallic due to the metal chassis and it somewhat distorts at higher volumes (which you'll need for movies or music since the speakers are not very strong). Certainly below average compared to other laptops. For anything else but listening to music or movies the speakers are adequate (Skype, sounds, casual background music).
Using the line-out is perfectly fine and will give you decent sound through active speakers.

I never received any feedback from other 8560p owners whether their models' bluetooth works. I find it very strange if mine does not have bluetooth, but I just can't get it to run. I think I read about one option using the HP network manager to control all wireless devices that may activate the bluetooth, but I'm not fond of the HP tool. Also that just can't be the only way to get BT to work. Oh well, it's nothing dramatic for me.

Thanks again for your response. I'm going to buy this EliteBook 8560p as an addition to my EliteBook 8440p in a few weeks. I'll let you know whether Bluetooth is working or not. One thing you can do is to try out the HP Connection Manager in its recent version. This helpful software supersedes the former HP Wireless Assistant and reports you the status of integrated network devices. It's worth a try.

You should have no problem passing audio through an HDMI adapter -- worked fine for me.

As for the screen, it looks good though I sometimes wish for more resolution -- it is fine for what it is.

    - Yes.
    - The 1366x768 screen isn't very good at all. I've had three 8460p machines and the one that had the 1366x768 screen was quickly sold on. Go for the 1600x900 if you can.

Neither screen, however, is anywhere as good as the Radiance on the ENvy 13. Those were the days (Cries)

I was wondering if some can do me a favor for who owns a 8560P is to go to (below) and let me know what the results are. I am looking to add another PC to the house and kids like to use a laptop. I just want to know if there are any lagging with the game. I have run this on the 4530s and it is pretty laggy with the non-dedicated video card.

    Thanks in advance

I really love my HP Elitebook 8560p. It has Intel Core i5-2540M, 128 GB SSD, LGD0258 1600 x 900 screen, 4 GB RAM. I have owned Thinkpads, Dell Precision, Dell Latitude. I like this one most of all. It's just sexy.

Love the keyboard. Screen is fine too. Love the SSD. Plan on upgrading RAM.

    Hi,
I seem to have an issue with the integrated HP HD webcam under Windows 7 64bit. While it works smoothly in the HP Webcam software, it becomes very choppy and lagging when testing it through the preference dialogues in Skype or ClearSee. I've already checked the usual suspects and backlight compensation and automatic exposure are turned off. Also the choppiness is unrelated to the selected webcam resolution or video codec. Newest drivers and newest firmware are installed. Since I'm testing the webcam locally through the preference dialogue, the internet bandwith shouldn't be the culprit either.
It's really annoying, especially because I belief that the webcam used to work fine some time ago.
Does anyone have similiar problems or suggestions?
    Thanks

Probably the heat sinks are getting clogged up with lint, dust, etc. Best is to blow it out with an air compressor, if you have access to one. Take the bottom cover off and blow air through all the vents, the fans, etc. anywhere that air flows in and out of the laptop. A can of compressed air will do the job also.

Is F.29 this kind of problem, or is it SATA3 mode?
