I researched this laptop for a while and finally ordered one. The only thing that is bugging me is the reports of the defective Dreamcolor screens. Does anyone have an easy solution on how to diagnose if the screen is good? Also I haven't upgraded to Adobe CS5.5 software yet so has anyone done the CUDA hack for Premiere CS5 and how does it run on the Quadro 2000M?

What CUDA hack, do you have a link? I have the AMD card so I don't think it applies to me, but It would be great to get hardware support!

Page 2 of 3 for Adobe Premiere CS5 and CS5.5 Video Cards

You will need a CUDA enabled Nvidia card with over 768 megs of video memory.

The XU086UT is the XU083UT with dreamcolor, according to the spec sheets. I can buy the non-dreamcolor one here in Canada for $1430, but the IPS version (same specs otherwise) is $2120. That seems totally crazy, right? $700 is a bananas amount just for the IPS upgrade, given that on the US configurator it's an extra $350 or so.

Is there something I'm missing? Or is it just weirdo Canadian pricing?

No, I think it was $1400 and $2000 for those 2 models when I bought mine...I thought it was gouging, but I'd been saving up for an IPS model, and Dell didn't have the option on their M4600 yet.

    Hello All.
One week ago there was one red pixel.
It is possible to clean it?
    It is a guarantee?
How many pixels are admissible in dreamcolor display?

    Hi,

I have recently updated to F.22, however, I suffer from major problems: the keyboard and touchpad not longer works as expected. I suffer huge delays between input and reaction of the computer. I have to hold keys for several seconds for actions to take place. However, USB connected devices (mouse/keyboard) works just fine. I am not able to roll back my older BIOS because of notice -failed BIOS signature.

    O/S: Windows 7 32 bit.

Could you, please, help me? It's a shame that first post here is asking for help :|

    Thanks,
    Jonas

looks like HP is not updating the graphics drivers very often, so i regularly check for those drivers at AMD / ATI.

Another driver for the AMD/ATI workstation graphics has been released for the current notebooks 8760w/8560w/8460w with the firepro 5950m and 3900m.

the driver supports the graphics cards m5800 and m7820 of the previous generation 8740w and 8540w.

    you can find the driver ( version 8.911.3.1 ) for win7 (32 & 64 bit ) here : AMD FirePro? Mobile Driver

I have the same problem. Mostly with the touchpad where is it will start to do random things. I spoke with customer support and rolled back the BIOS. That did not fix the problem. There were other updates that were done and do not know what was updated. If I could roll back everything, I would. It is annoying. Anyone out there have a suggestion?

If someone is looking for a Swedish or a Finnish (or probably some other language) backlit keyboards you can try here: Convena

For some odd reason I couldn't buy one from the HP Part site.

I'm considering purchasing the 8560w(XU083UT) with the Firepro 5950 and wanted to make sure that I can use the Displayport to send video to my TV (using a displayport to HDMI connector) or an external monitor while still being able to use the screen on the laptop at the same time. I'm pretty sure it should be able to do this but I wanted to make sure from someone who already has the laptop.

    Hi,
Please try to open a support ticket with HP or something to draw their attention. Unluckily, I have bought a refurbished computer from the USA, but I have no support/warranty available any more. Hopefully they will acknowledge the problem and will release some BIOS? patch to fix that.
Do you have problems with touchpad only? In my case keyboard, touchpad and pointer stick are delayed. I have to press keyboard letters for seconds for it to appear on the screen. All USB devices (keyboard/mouse) work just fine

    Hello following happens to me:
When i start the Elitebook it boots into Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and then the left mouse key is permanently activated. I have the latest BIOS installed. So i do a fresh Installation of Win 7 and install the Basic Drivers. Install the HP Support Tool and scan for all new updates - do the Updates as expected. At the next Restart think what happens - the left mouse key is permanently activated.
At the Moment the Elitebook had a new Win 7 Installation again and Basic Drivers and Nvidia Graphic Driver installed. So the Problem is not the BIOS it is a Bad Driver from HP  My next steps are to make a Restore Point and install Drivers step by step :(

Short answer is yes, you can run 1 or 2 additional screens straight from the laptop (VGA and Display port) and more if you want with the dock.

This is probably TMI, but it may be relevant for others. Elitebooks w m5950 also support eyefinity, which lets you see multiple screens as 1 big external monitor. A big flaw with eyefinity is you can't change settings per monitor. I have a Dell IPS and a Samsung - if I use eyefinity my color profiles go out the window and the dell gets a horrid green tint. So I don't.

As my laptop is without any support from now (bought refurbished), I brought it to a local computer's specialist. He managed to start the computer after hard reset? of BIOS (not sure how it was done), but the mouse/touchpad still doesn't work.

Finally HP USA has posted an updated early 2012 list of SmartBuy models at:

    http://shopping1.hp.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WW-USSMBPublicStore-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewStandardCatalog-Browse?CatalogCategoryID=v4wQ7hacFCIAAAEv2AdjKmjE

There is now a model with I7-2760QM processor running at 2.4 Ghz.... It's

    B2A79UT

The machine lists for $1929 on the HP site. Except for processor, specs appear identical to the older XU085UT that had the I7-2720 running at 2.2 Ghz.

    Does anyone know if the 8560w is compatible with the Computrace/LoJack agent? It seems conspicuously absent from the 8xxx compatible model list. (8440p, 8440w, 8460p, 8460w, 8530p, 8530w, 8540p, 8540p, 8540w, 8560p, 8730w, 8740w, 8760w)

Has anyone been able to swap a 1000M for the FirePro 5950? After my 3 monitors showed up today I now realize my config won't work. When I bought the laptop I thought AMD Eyefinity was another chip that was installed in the notebook. I didn't realize it was part of the AMD FirePro/ATI graphics card.

I do very little graphic intensive work but it's development and monitoring. 4 USB to HDMI adapters seems like a bad joke on this capable laptop.

Any ideas? I have the advanced docking station on order but from what I've read I don't think it will help the matter.

Thanks! I didn't know that was even an option.

Very tempting but I was trying for the same setup at work and home. For 2x$270 I'm better off ebaying the notebook and getting the right one.

I did find the AMD 5950 graphics card for $220. But I don't know about the heat sink issue that another post mentioned.

For anyone who finds this from Google looking for the answer, I emailed Computrace and they said:

"Thank you for the inquiry. We are in the process of updating/adding several new HP platforms to our BIOS compatibility list so I apologize for any confusion.
Yes, the 8560w is certainly equipped with our BIOS persistence module."

    Hello.

i have a question about SSD drive for 8560w. i did phone the Poland HP and ask about the SSD drives, and i got an answer that only HP branded SSD will work with my 8560w..

man from that service gave me the part number:
    653434001 HP Drive SD 128GB
and told to ask from authorized reseller of HP parts, and so i did...

the price for that part is like 500$ for 128GB SSD drive, so i thought what the f***??

for comparison i found 128GB SSD drive 550/450MB transfer for like 150$, so the difference is more than 200%...

can anyone tell me if it is true?? do i have to pay 500$ for SSD or can i buy other bran ssd??

Guys, I am considering 8560w vs Lenovo W520 and would appreciate your comments:

    1) How would you rank the HP 1920 x 1080 FHD WVA display vs Lenovo? I read some horrible reviews on the HP site stating that it is not a true LED panel, that's why it is not bright enough. I think it is a total BS, but would like to hear from 8560w owners.

    2) Any overheating problems? I am considering the i7-2720QM.

    3) The 8560w keyboard quality vs Lenovo

    4) Can I replace the optical drive by the 2nd HDD?

    5) The overall 8560w build quality. I think it is slightly better than W520.

    6) Any known issues with the 8560w I should be aware of?

    Thanks!

i got one more question - i would like to keep my DVD and change standard HDD for SSD, do i need any special mount kit to change my 500GB HDD for 2,5" SSD??
i've seen the change of HDD for bigger HDD, and DVD/Blueray bay for additional HDD/SDD, but i can't find any information about changing standard HDD for SSD.. ;/

I can't speak for the Lenovo, but I've found that the regular screen on the M4600 can go both brighter and dimmer than the screen on the 8560w can.

Anybody got a non working 8560w motherboard or expertises in fixing computers? Any idea where it could be possible to get a full BIOS image as HP officially provides only partial on their website. My computer is out of HP support - could, please, anybody ask, if they could provide that?
    Thanks,

There are probably ways to tell using some API but, not knowing which that is, some other ways:

    - just look. Are non-colormanaged programs displaying very saturated colors? Or does everything look less saturated than before the swap. (In other words, is it still a wide gamut display).

    - recalibrate your screen, and compare the primaries ni the ICC profile with one you made before the swap. The ICC makes a free ICC profile inspector which will let you do that.

It has a fairly obvious mistake, which I have just reported to Dell via their feedback form. If a display has 100% AdobeRGB, as they claim, then it can't have only 72% sRGB.

Hi everyone I am new member of this forum as you can see .I am very happy that I found forum for Elitebook 8560w and hoping that I can find some answers.

    My machine: Eliitebook 8560w, I7 2670QM ,HD+(1600x900),AMD ATI Firepro 5950M , 16GB 1333DDR3, 750GB 7200RPM…. OS-Windows 7 Pro 64.

Problems …don’t know from where to start…….with bigger ones….

-Idle temperatures of CPU- 46⁰C,GPU-49⁰C after 2-3 hour working on Word, Excel, 3-4 IExplorer(surfing internet) goes to CPU-56⁰C ; GPU-54⁰C.All the time CPU works on 1197Mhz,GPU 725Mhz Memory 900.

-Play Battlefield 3(medium settings) after 15min. CPU-85⁰C, GPU-73⁰C. All the time CPU works on 2793Mhz,GPU 725Mhz Memory 900.

-Test with Prime95 after 10 min. temperature of CPU went to extremely 92⁰C and I stopped test.Clock-2793Mhz
Fan works on 3 steps : Never stops on my PC , after 55⁰C goes faster and after 85⁰C fasts.

I look for BIOS update on HP and find one F.22 5 Jan 2012 which supported notebook models with a 68SAD Family ROM(that is written on description). My version is 68SVD Ver. F.03. , can I update with new one?

Please share your experience with me. Is this normal for Elitebook 8560w or……I don’t have idea what to do pls help ….

I suggest you not to upgrade to F22. Turbo Boost will not work and SATA 3 will be disabled. You could not downgrade after upgrading to F20 and above.

Those temps arent too bad, do a repaste with Arctic 5 or better if you want to lower temps, pull the thermal pad off the ati. I am on F03 Bio on a 8460W Quad and SATA III works on my Samsung 830 256GB ssd, turbo still works... Stay on F03!!!!

People that buy elitebooks need to understand, with these sandy bridge processors, esp qauds, they don't run that cool and elitebooks are supposed to be mobile workstations, powerful, reliable, stable, being quiet isn't part of that equation, if you want a quiet notebook buy a consumer grade laptop.
My 8730w is almost 3 years old and bullet proof rock solid, its fan kicks on but the temps are good on t9400, this 8460w with the repaste is running slightly hotter, slightly, which is quite impressive in a much smaller chassis and much more processing power...

Thanks for the answers but I will wait little bit with Arctic 5, one of the reasons to choose HP was 3-yers warranty.

And “sandy’s bridges” are not so hot for some models of ASUS,SONY,LENOVO even the other models of HP like this one: Review: HP Envy 17 3D (Early 2012) - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
,the temperature not exceed 80⁰C although they test with wPrime+Furmark , if I do this with mine I can’t imagine ………but never mind.

For the noise I mentioned noting, but you are right this is a workstation and should be powerful, reliable, stable etc. and I think not to overheat is part of it.

For me is more import to understand how your PC works at similar conditions. I mean what is idle temperature of your machines, if you tested with Prime95, wPrime or played game such as Battlefield3 what are your temperature CPU-GPU, clock etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Run Burn In, thats what I did, it got 74 errors, did the repaste, no errors, its not that the cooling is inadequate, its just one of those things that the paste will take care of, someone on the 8460p board did a paste guide, check it out. Could be the guy that built your machine didnt seat the heatsink fully, but I don't think the heatsink or the fan are to blame its the paste or lack of it.

I played LFD 2 and it was stable and cool after repaste, if you really want to boost performance take a look at my post at the end of the 8460p thread about the Samsung SSD, its insanely fast and super stable, you can't go wrong with Intel or Samsung and Crucial would be third I wouldnt touch any other manufacture, regardless of the "deal" I have two intel one in my z800, one in 8730w, zero, issues and I have had alot of exp with samsungs, they are the best in my opinion, the make everything from the memory, cpus in the ssd's, ect.
