It does not seem waht you write here is the same as you write in your previous answer. I confirm that the first time you have to install a new hard disk, it is difficult to disassemble the bracket.
Thank you.

That's exactly what I wrote, I believe you misunderstood.
I titled the SSD section "Upgrade Annoyance" which means the laptop did not come with it. -
You should install ssd into the hard drive bay and house the hard drive in the caddy
Try to get the cables either esata or usb 3.0 in order to turn your dvd to a external drive USB Cables : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
Aftermarket SSD is better in terms of price and perfomance
sata 2 only comes with cheaper 8560p/8460w series only
Caddy made to fit bezel of 8560w
or you can remove the faceplate of stock optical drive that came with your rig then intall to the aftermarket caddy
Maybe 1 of your memory sticks is faulty, try to test them separately in the rig

I know this may be a little off topic for this forum but I wanted to know if there is any configurable HP EliteBook 14" that can be upgraded with FHD?
-
- Minor squeak with space bar and enter key
- Bezel seems okay on mine, but like cypherinfo, my hinge assembly is not sitting flush
- Right side latch depression does not return back into place
- Power adapter does not sit flush in charging port, but never had an issue with it disconnecting suddenly. (I have the same problem as described here
- KB back light still flickers, even after the supposed update to fix it
- New annoyance: cooling fan rattles <--this one actually has me worried. It sounds like it's off-balance which has me concerned about the durability of this laptop. I carry it around in a sleeve every day, and I don't want other components failing because of how much I carry the laptop.
-
The fan noise is what concerns me too...
Where did you find a fix for the KB light flicker?
Also, I posted the KB issues on the HP support forums, but as usual there are no replies. HP forum support is sort of a joke. -
I might have a chance on a reasonably priced 8560w, exact model LG660EA as reviewed here.
Basically it would replace my second desktop and the 8510w both. Cpu is i5, therefore it will only have 2 sodimm slots but still accepts 16GB ram so that isn't a real issue. Firepro with Eyefinity is also what I want, planning to run two big monitors with a dock.
Now the thing is... I'd need some ideas how much an improvement 8570w would be over this with pretty similar specs (new i5, new AMD FirePro). Anyone heard rumours so far or seen some benchmarks?
I haven't got my hands on pricing/specs of the new models yet so I cannot do the comparison with price/performance gain. -
I vaguely remember one of the driver/firmware updates supposedly containing a fix for the keyboard backlight flicker. Nevertheless, it didn't work.
Also, thought I might add that despite the little annoyances with this year-old 8560w, I still am currently very happy with my purchase (assuming the rattling fan is the worst that will happen over the course of the 3 year warranty). -
@APasserBy: don´t you have in your country that Elitebook Service?
In Germany we have standard 3 years bring-in (1 year on the battery) without additional costs. And even with standard service we had displays, keyboards, fans etc. replaced in the past during those 3 years, when necessary.
For my actual 8560w I chose a 3 years Next-Business-Day service as an upgrade. -
Anyone have scaling issues when using the ATI Firepro 5950 and the 15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit FHD anti-glare (1920 x 1080) screens? I have a couple older programs that don't scale properly past 96 dpi. @ 125 dpi the splash screens have black borders and aside from cosmetics, it's not a show stopper in and of itself. The problem is, one of these programs is frequently updated from a server that runs the master. When the update completes the user is presented with a screen that they cannot scroll down to press the 'accept' button. Of course savvy users can tab once or twice and hit return and figure this out by trial and error, but I'm supporting a 225 user fleet of these units and even with instructions very few of them can get it right without someone holding their hand.
Now you'd think logically that resetting the desktop dpi to 96 from 125 would naturally fix the issue, alas it does not. Anyone else face this and resolve it? -
Does anyone know whether I can upgrade the CPU and GPU in my 8560w.

Does anyone have any contacts at HP that can help get a screen replacement done?
I purchased a refurbished 8560w at the HP Business Outlet last week. It was advertised as coming with the dreamcolor LCD, which a representative over there just confirmed that it should have included as well. However, the display doesn't have very good viewing angles and doesn't have the little "dreamcolor" rainbow circle in the corner of the bezel either, which makes me think it is a different display. The monitor identifies itself as an LGD0249 in Windows.
Well, I did speak to a person in the Business Outlet this morning about it, and the only option she gave me was to setup a return. However she couldn't gaurantee me that another machine with a dreamcolor LCD would be available to ship out by the time the RMA had been processed.
I do otherwise like the configuration, price and design of the machine. Kind of feeling disappointed that such a nice config will be lost just because it came with the wrong display.. (I am even considering just keeping it without the dreamcolor)
Does anyone know of someone at HP who could get the display exchanged so I don't have to deal with an RMA? I wouldn't mind buying one of the upgraded care packs if it were required, was planning on that anyways. -

And the one you listed is a smart buy. I think you would probably have a better chance at getting the dreamcolor by ordering that model. I have yet to be emailed the RMA number either so I guess I will probably have to call back again tomorrow and find out what is happening.

Make sure and ask them if warranty is valid in Canada. I recall reading that they only sell to US customers from the Outlet, and the warranty is US only as well. You can also still get the non-refurb version of it (B2A80UT#ABA) at places like ProVantage which do ship internationally. But it costs an extra $500-600 after adjusting for the longer warranty.
The Envy 15 does use an 1080p IPS display, however it has a glossy overlay and is only 6-bit. The DV6T-7000 has also been shipping with the matte version of the Envy's IPS display. The Sony S15 series also comes with the same matte 1080p IPS display that the Envy uses. I think that covers it for consumer laptops. -
win32asmguy said: ↑I am probably going to just keep it, buy the extended onsite warranty in a month or two, then have them replace the display. I might have to lie a little and say that it has dead pixels or a color problem, but seeing as my machine should have came with it in the first place it doesn't bother me.

From another site (hpfansite) I read:
"HP says the regular EliteBook 8560w will be 1.36 inches thin, while models equipped with the DreamColor panel will measure a slightly thicker 1.44 inches."
This could be an easy way to determine if you have dreamcolor or not if you have a caliper handy.

How long does it take for the NVIDIA Quadro to be a selectable option for the Elitebook?
-
There are versions of the pre-built that are identical other than one has the DDR3 NVIDIA or DDR5 AMD. Look for a smartbuy one that meets your needs best, they can be had at a pretty good discount.
Not sure why you would go with the NVIDIA unless you need additional memory more than you need the speed?
NecessaryEvil said: ↑knowing HP, it's probably cheaper to just buy a 3rd party one and swap faceplates, assuming you don't mind it not saying Blu Ray.
it's $100 at Newegg. It's a $250 upgrade on HP, don't know what the standalone price is.
That's what I typically do.Click to expand... -
I'm not too far from purchasing a standard config 8560w (i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, FirePro M5950, Full HD non IPS screen) and I have few questions that will either speed up or slow down the decision to go ahead and purchase it, unless I can find a 8570w somewhere that's only slightly more expensive (say, <£200, I guess, the 8560w I'm looking at is £1150, similar configured (IB i5 & M4000) 8570w on HP store is £1500+)
- how overclockable is the GPU with something like MSI Afterburner? If it can be overclocked at all, I can't seem to find any information on this.
- how easy is it to take apart the system and upgrade the CPU if I ever decide to do at some point in the future?
- The system doesn't seem to support mSATA, is this correct? So I guess I'll have to use the optical drive caddy to install 2nd hard drive?
I just want to be sure. -

Hi, everybody!
Third time change matrix - Sub-Pixels.
A week ago took away a laptop from service and again found 5 Sub-Pixels.
Really this such bad quality of matrixes?
Wanted to learn as from you?
Question to owners of notebooks with DreamColor.
Thanks! -

With the Windows 8 release on Technet due in a couple days, I'm curious what drivers (and where) have been put out by HP, or confirmed to work in 8.

2 things with manual installation:
Fingerprint works, UMTS/3G embedded works
everything else Win8 found and installed out-of-the-box
Waiting for the release now - and hopefully they even get us Microsoft Partners the productkey at the same time as the release and not weeks after (like with the Vista launch... or the Win7 launch...)

Hi everybody,
has anyone here ever used the cardbus slot? I tried to use it with a D-Link DFE-690TXD 10/100TX CardBus Adapter but the card isn't fitting to the slot.
My problem is that the slot is inside the beveled part of the chassis and the head of the card is making contact with the chassis side (where the USB ports are located) when I try to push it completely inside. Because of this I can't push the card deep enough into the slot to become locked.
Has anyone else had problems with this so far? I don't know if the D-Link card is maybe a bit too short or if this is a general design issue of the Elitebook?
Thanks in advance for any reply. -
The 8560w has got an Express card slot, not cardbus

Just had the entire CPU/GPU fan/heatsink assembly replaced today. Only 8 months old and the fan went out last week.
Now if I could just get the LCD bezel replaced with one that isn't warped, the back-light fixed and the squeaky keys replaced I'd have the laptop I actually paid for... Oh yeah, and the AC adapter that fried two months ago replaced, THEN I'd be square with HP.
What lemons these things are, should have went with my gut instinct and bought the Dell M6600
At least the HP service guy was friendly and knowledgeable, something to be said for good customer service when you can get it - they even cleaned my laptop screen before returning it. -

You said return, don't you have on-site?
All I have ever done is create a ticket, list the problems, the service guy/gal calls with an ETA of the parts, they show up and an hour or two later, good as new.
Even with my 8510w, a month before the warranty ended, I called in the fan (noisy) and keyboard (7 popped off).. a few days later, it is good as new.
Michael
p.s. are you using the elite support number?
I thought there was one, don't have it handy, but regardless, you can do this:
Q: How does a customer access Elite support?
A: When a customer who has an Elite Commercial Notebook or Elite Commercial Desktop calls into the number for North America support (the same number they call today - 800-633-3600 (contract) 800-334-5144 (warranty)), they will be prompted to say EliteBook or Elite Desktop and will then be routed to this new dedicated team -
I'm in China so it's difficult to get service, otherwise I would had all these issues fixed already.

Hello Guys, I just got an 8560 quad core...so far I'm loving it, but i have a couple of questions/concerns, I was hoping you can help me address/answer...
1. I couldn't tell if my battery is 4, 6 or cells, but for a brand new laptop when a battery is charged to 100% it only lasts for 2-2.5 hrs! is that expected?
2. the resolution 1080 is driving me nut! several apps and websites open up with very small font so i keep adjusting the fonts ea time and for some apps, i can't even do that!!! this is the 1st time I deal with this so called HD resolution, and it's frustrating! Any help, suggestions or workarounds are greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance!

I get more than 3 hours but with everything turned off (Wi-fi disabled, brightness on minimum etc.) and that is good enough for me. You should of checked a few reviews regarding this if you really need battery life (another option is to buy the additional battery).
Regarding small fonts, it's normal if you use 1080p on a 15' laptop. Go into control panel/display and set the DPI you want. -
Thanks! DPI is already set to 125% and still not good enough. Is there a way to input a specific resolution? Thanks

hello, i got a question
i changed my 500GB hdd for SDD, and everything works great, but...
i bought a 2,5" external case sata to usb 3.0 for hdd and win 7 prof x64 doesn't recognise it.. when i plug it in i get usb storage as2105 and it doesn't appear in computer..
any sugestions? did anyone had same problem or know how to solve it? -
Did you install the USB3 drivers? Try plugging in the regular USB to make sure the case is not faulty.
-
i have downloaded newest drivers for usb 3.0 and tried hdd on all 5 usb ports (2 usb 3.0 and 3 usb 2.0) of laptop, but there is no change.. ;/
case is brand new and i got no other hdd to try it.. ;/ so i cannot tell it is 100% working, but it is metal box and 20cm of cable so i guess it should be good
i don't want to change drives inside laptop once again.. but i guess this could help solve the problem - i could check the case with sdd and maybe copy the most important data from hdd to pendrives..
still i would want to use the hdd as a backup for system image and most important data, so if there are any other things that might work, i am ready to try -
I have had trouble with cheap hdd enclosures that I got from ebay in the past. make sure that the hdd to the enclosure connection is ok too. maybe use it outside the cover and try moving the hdd connection when the cable is connected.
-
connecting outside the metal box and moving the cable doesnt change anything.. laptop thinks that this drive is as2105 device and it does not appear in the computer.. ;/
ok.. i did figure it out - i did have dynamic drives - my fault ;/ everything works - on USB 3.0 copying ubuntu iso took just a few seconds -
@ HP EliteBook 8560w Gurus,
I just installed an additional HD on my 8560w, went to BIOS Settings and changed boot sequence so that it now boots from the notebook HD (it wasn't before..it was actually booting form the 2nd HD), so I've fixed that, BUT he problem I'm having now is that if I go to the start menu and click on "Restart", the laptop seems to hang (I can see the logging off and shutting down sequence on the screen, then I get a black screen, but the laptop stays On!!! (as if it goes to sleep instead on restarting)...Note that long ago, I have disabled the sleep and hibernation states, so my laptop never actually goes to those states, but it seems that it does now (after installing the 2nd HD) when I click on Restart!!! Even a soft shutdown doesn't work anymore!!! I have to actually keep my finger on the power button til it completely shuts down!!!
Any help/suggestion are greatly appreciated!!
Thank You In Advance! -
Any help guys!!! Thanks

Pretty odd...
I would start with going back to basics.
1) do a firmware upgrade to latest
2) reset bios to factory defaults
3) do microsoft update with windows and other microsoft product, include optional
4) update HP drivers manually to latest, pick everything released in 2012
5) save and clear your event logs (all of them)
6) run chkdsk on boot (I have seen this fix a few weird problems before)
a) in start, type cmd (don't hit enter) right click cmd.exe and run as admin
b) in the dos box, type chkdsk c: /f/r <enter)
c) when it tells you it can't lock the drive do it on restart type Y <enter>
d) log off (get in the habit of logging off before shutting down or restarting)
e) restart your computer, let it go through the 5 steps, it might take an hour if you don't have an SSD
7) check event logs for some clues
Let us know if things improve (or not)

Thank you for your suggestions Bro! Unfortunately, none of the suggestions above fixed the issue!
I have attached a log for the events right b4 attempting to shutdown by going to Start then clicking on Shutdown...Again after doing so, I can see that the laptop is logging off, then shutting down, then the screen turns black, BUT the laptop stays ON (I can see all the power, the wifi, etc.. and keyboard lights ON still). I then have to apply a hard shut down for the laptop to be completely shutdown!!! Same behavior if I try to Restart!
Thanks for looking into this guys!
P.S. Note that this only started to happen after I've installed a 2nd HD. Hard Drive is accessible and working fine, but this issue is really annoying! I have tried removing the 2nd HD, and after doing so, the laptop restarts and shuts down normally, but not when the 2nd HD is installed!!!!Attached Files:
