    Hi Ivix,

in bios there should be only the option to control the timeout options for the keyboard in 5 second steps.
It´s been a while since i installed my backlit keyboard, but i think i can remember that my keyboard didn´t want to light up as well, when i first installed it. If i remember it correctly, i just had installed the zif-connector for the backlit keyboard reversed. After i inserted the zif connector as it was supposed to be, everything was working perfect.

According to this PDFon HP's support website, the 8560w does support 1600MHz memory but only at 1333MHz speeds... can someone confirm this is still the case, or has a newer BIOS update provided full 1600MHz speeds?

We have recently bought an 8560w with the DreamColor display, and we're having a hard time getting the display calibrated to match our monitors. This is a refurbished machine - a warranty check gives a date of 4 May 2012 (in France -- we're in Sweden). Oh, and it had a motherboard swap after we got it, but the calibration problem was there before that.

HP Mobile Display Assistant is showing the color spaces as ST-Factory-1 through 7 -- and gives the display serial number as 00000000 (PnP ID is LGD0220, as expected). Earlier threads on this forum tell me that the only fix for this is to get a new display, but the first thing I find on HP's support site is a page telling me to rename the profiles to the expected names -- how does that fix anything? I'm going to enter a support case anyway.

Anyway, picking the third entry, known as sRGB on working displays, does get us something with the right sort of gamut, but a heavy greenish cast -- missing factory calibration sounds about right.

So, I tried just setting it to ST-Factory-7, which would be User Calibration, and calibrating it with a ColorMunki Display colorimeter. That gets the white point and muted colors spot-on relative to the other screens, but bright red and oranges are hideously oversaturated, greens a little less so -- is that the 'fault' of the missing factory calibration, or of the colorimeter filter curves not matching the RGB backlight?

So, my real question is: Do I just upgrade to a spectrophotometer (ColorMunki Photo) and ignore the MDA profiles? (I don't want to get the HP calibrator because we also have a Dell U2410 and a few other monitors, and I want to calibrate everything with the same unit).

BTW, can anybody with a well-calibrated Dreamcolor display give me the XYZ values for the colorants from the ICC profile?

How does upgrading the video work?

I've looked a bit into it and the whole MXM business, but it doesn't seem to be upgradable because of the locked bios.
Do you have some knowledge that I may have missed?

Hi, confirmed by this pdf too.

The memory speed will be limited to 1333Mhz, and that's what CPU-Z shows on my PC:

    2x665Mhz=1330Mhz

Note: standard DDR3 1600Mhz RAM modules tend to have a higher latency (CL11 instead of CL9 for 1333), but when "downgraded" to 1333Mhz, I guess it is CL9 as well. Best is to verify this in CPU-Z - Tabulation SPD (ask someone who's got them).

    Cheers

You're indeed limited to the graphic card white-listed in the BIOS. Best is the Quadro 2000M.

I know about eGPU. It's not a solution for me, because I think it defeats the purpose of owning a notebook.

Thank you for your answer. So it is as I have feared, the 2000M is the best card that will fit?!
At least I know for sure now. I would have really liked to upgrade with a modern consumer grade graphics card. :(

Yes, it is the best card you can put in this PC. There are chances it overclocks well. I've been able to overclock my Quadro 1000M by more than 30%, reaching the performance of the 2000M. I'm not gaming with the PC, so I can't say much about stability when playing, but I tried successfully Need for Speed The Run (and I still prefer playing it on the PS3 :) ).

    Cheers.

Thinking about buying a 8560w. I do mostly RAW editing, Photoshop and even some weekly audio file editing with Audtion. Haven't had a chance to read through the posts, so I was wondering how folks are doing with the DreamColor IPS panel? I know there were problems with it when the model was launched and Dell doesn't even offer one anymore unless you go up to a 17" which I don't want. I have a desktop rig that I rebuild every 2-3 years and an excellent NEC 2090UXI, which I love by the way. Because of some health problems I have to spend a lot of time standing so my desktop doesn't get as much use as I would like.

So, because of that I'm looking at the 8560w with the IPS panel so I can do color critical stuff on a laptop placed on my pony wall. I have a Lenovo w520 that's not bad, but it seems I have some trouble getting my color profiles the way I want them. Should be easy with my Spyder4 Pro, but I always end up with over saturated colors. That in a nutshell is why I'm interested in the dreamcolor.

So you folks that have bought one lately with that panel - how do you like it? Easily profiled? No pink washed out colors like some of the early adapters reported last year? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Do they need to be FirePro specifically?

If not, my 8560W is running on Catalyst 12.11 drivers, identified as a 6700 series, which is fine with me.

I don´t use win8 yet, but a while back Amd provided a Catalyst Driver Windows 8 Release Preview :
    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Windows8ConsumerPreviewDrivers.aspx

if you don´t care whether your dreamcolor display is calibrated and really uses the 10 bits of color it offers, you definitely are fine with a standard radeon driver.
Should your dreamcolor panel live up to it´s potential you definitely should use the firepro drivers.

I'm thinking about upgrading my stock hard drive to a SSD. I can get a 250GB Samsung 840 for 150€, the pro version for around 200€. Is it worth the price difference? I already have 32gb of memory installed.

The 840 Pro is pretty much the fastest 256GB drive that you can get. It's hard to tell what's worth it, if you need the fastest then yes it's worth it but if you just want an SSD go for the 840. Either one will be much faster than the HDD.
Another thing to consider is that the Pro version has 5 year warranty, while the standard 840 has a 3 year warranty.

No, you probably can't even flash it never mind being compatible. I'm curious as to why would you even try that? I can't see any benefits if it would be possible...

I want to try that because I have 1600MHz 16G ram instaled but it runs only at 1333MHz. I know that that is no noticable difference, but anyway. Other driver such as fingerprint sensor, hotkey runs OK in win8 x64. I tried that because there is no official driver for 8560w for win8. With bios I think is different, because 8570w has different chipset i think, that's why I ask. I did a little bit of research and 8560w rom familiy is 68smv and 8570w rom familiy is 68iav. Is this compatible?

BIOS has nothing to do with Win 8 whatsoever, only drivers....and the reason is that all of the drivers need to be tested on Win 8 and that takes some time.

How can it be compatible? It's a totally different chipset, totally different CPU which needs different voltage regulation. Even if you could flash it you would probably end up bricking the whole thing.

Not compatible, period. RAM will not run on 1600Mhz, because the memorycontroller in the processor only goes up to 1333Mhz. Nothing you can do about it.

    What he said.

You probably don't have an i5 CPU. They only support 1333 MHz.
If you bought your 8560w with an i7 you can take advantage of 1600 MHz.
For further details check Intel arch.

Yes. You are right. Specifications of my 8560w are: i7 (2820qm->I know it is capable of 1600MHz), quadro2000m, 120GB Kingston hyperx ssd, 750GB HDD upgrade bay and 16GB (4x4GB) of Kingston hyperx 1600MHz ram instaled. My ram is working at 1333MHz and I can't get it higher. Can you please help me, where to find this intel arch or what should I do to get it run at 1600MHz. Once again I know that there is not such a difference but I'm not satisfied with that.

    Thank you in advance.

Damn autocorection. It's called ark. Look here:

    ARK | Intel® Core

Your System should be capable of 1600 MHz. Have you checked your BIOS settings? I cannot cross-check it for you, because I have an i5 CPU. It could also be that HP somehow restricted it in the BIOS. Anyway, the only place to change this is in the BIOS. So just go check. If it's not there, you are out of luck.

While the chipset supports 1600MHz, the HP BIOS has limited the memory to 1333MHz. There is no setting for making the computer to select 1600MHz instead of 1333MHz. I don't know why they do this but I suspect it is because parts should be interchangeable between 8760w models.

Hi guys, I have a plan to get a 8560w, guy says it's model number is LG664ea#ABD

He is unable to tell me if has a DreamColor display.

I looked up everywhere this number, seems HP doesn't recognize it, but Google and other sites aren't clear either, Some say DC, some not...

    Any ideas?

This is what I can find on a lot of websites: 8560w i7-2630QM/8GB/750GB/BD/15"FHD-UWVA/W7P 64bit

    I assume UWVA means DC?

    UWVA = ultra-wide viewing angle

Those are the official options according to the product bulletin

    15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD+ WVA anti-glare
    (1600 x 900 resolution)

    15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit FHD WVA anti-glare
    (1920 x 1080 resolution)

    15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit FHD UWVA anti-glare DreamColor
    (1920 x 1080 resolution)

So you might be in luck 

I need a German keyboard.

I also would know where to buy a US layout keyboard for just about $30 incl. shipping.

The backlit keyboards are really expensive. I guess that you would pay about 150 EUR at one of the local HP spare parts vendors.

I was having the same issue with my brightness controls. Worked fine on my initial install of 8 that I did back in August when it was made available for TechNet, but failed on the fresh install I was doing this morning. I tried the registry tweaks that were listed online, I tried AMD's drivers, HP's drivers, the stock drivers. It didn't matter if light sensor was enabled or disabled. I'd all but given up on the damned thing, and have had to rewrite this a couple times now to change from "is" to "was".

What I did find that fixed it was the June version of the hotkey software (pre Win8). SP57879

If anyone has an 8560w that came with or was configured with the HP bluray writer, if you could please run msinfo32 or hwinfo and let us know what the drive is.
    Thanks!

Proud new owner of a 8560w, with 32gb of ram. Overall a very nice machine.

Hafta admit though that the logo on the lid annoys me - wish it could be turned off via the BIOS or something. :\

Which memsticks did you put in it?

And I agree the logo is annoying, that's the reason I put tape over it. If someone knows how to disable it by disconnecting a wire I would be very interested.

Not sure about the logo, but Corsair CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9 work just fine in the 8560w.
