    Hi everyone!

This is my first post here. Hope someone can help me out with my issue on my new 8560w.

I just got my new 8560w and got an issue right of the box. The problem is that I can't shutdown the computer. The second after I turn it off it automatically powers on again and boot into HPs QuickWeb. It doesn't matter if I choose shutdown from QuickWeb / Windows or if I hold down the power button. The computer always starts in HPs QuickWeb. If I remove the battery and the replace it the computer will automatically start.
The only way I managed to keep it powered off was to turn off QuickWeb in BIOS. But even when I do this the computer powers on if I remove/replace the battery. But it remains shutdown when I choose shutdown from the OS. I've tried booth F.28 and F.29 BIOS with the same result. I tried disabling wake on lan/usb, but with the same result.
Has anyone been experience anything like this? This is my first Workstation model of the Elitebook-series, but I've been dealing with Elitebooks since 2008 and never seen this behavior before.

Thank you for a great forum!

I haven't experienced your main issue (automatically powers back on). I haven't used QuickWeb though.
Maybe your Quickweb button is stuck? Might want to exercise it.

The fact that it powers on when you connect the battery is not related, and always happens.

Thanks...The link you provided to HP Hotkey Support v4.6.4.1 worked while HP Hotkey Support v4.6.11.2 did not. For some reason, I do not get any kind of notification for enabling/disabling the light sensor...

Has anyone had any difficulty getting their Bluetooth to work under Windows 8? It does not appear under device manager:

Reset bios to defaults. Windows 8 will then download the driver. Good luck!

After a reset go back to bios to restore your settings.

Another thing that worked for me was booting a Linux live cd and turning on Bluetooth there. Exit Linux, restart and windows 8 should see it.

Thank you for your reply. After talking to HP support they decided to do a DOA. New device has been shipped and problem was solved this way. The new device seems to be ok so far. I checked the QuickWeb button on the faulty 8560w but it didn't felt stuck.

BTW, is there anyone running the F29 version of the BIOS? Anything to say about it?

I got another question regarding the backlit keyboard. I've read some comments in this thread. But is there someone who has replaced the non-backlit keybord with the backlit one? Does it work without any modifications or is there any special connector / hardware on the models with backlit keyboard installed from factory? I also read that there are BIOS settings for the backlit keyboard (light time etc), are these options available / working when your install the backlit keyboard on a model which was shipped with the standard non-backlit keyboard?

    Thank you!

    Hello Guys/Gals,

I have a 320GB drive, which I've portioned into 3 partitions. I'm on win7 Pro and I have backed-up my data by saving it onto an external HD, and now I'd like to factory restore my laptop (8560w). I've read somewhere that you can do that simply by pressing F11 while booting, but it didn't work for me!!!!

So I have a couple of questions:

    1. What's the easiest way to factory restore my elite 8560w?

    2. I'm not sure if I should 1st un-partitioned drive C, then do a factory restore or will factory restore take care of un-partitioning drice C, as well?

    Thank You!

Sorry, I never tried to factory reset my notebook. If I remember correctly, the notebook didn't come with a restore DVD. I think the restore stuff was saved on one of the partitions.

Why don't you just download a Windows 7 iso from the internet and install from it? You just use the serial beneath the battery. That's how I did it after I installed my SSD.

Google "windows 7 iso digital river". That will lead you to official iso downloads.

    Hi,

I indeed replaced the original keyboard with a backlit one on my 8760w (slightly different screw and connector location but almost same kb). I tried everything you could think of : drivers, BIOS, registry hack, etc.) without ever getting my keyboard to light up. I ended giving up ! I can tho access backlit keyboard timeout setting whether through bios or windows control panel. Note that my system is windows 8. This could be a relevant point. Sorry not to be of much help. Cheers.

I think your best bet is to wipe all 3 partitions, then repartition into 2 partitions. Restore your factory OS & install programs to a partition & your data to the other one. If you just try to restore to factory condition your programs aren't going to work well any way (I'm assuming your 2nd partition is for programs?)

After you restore the factory conditions update your chipset, video, storage & NIC drivers then your programs.

    Hi Guys!

I've bit the bullet and decided on buying an open box XU086UT 8560w. I've asked the seller to upgrade it to 32gb. I'm waiting for it to arrive.

    I'm so excited!

I'm planning to have replace the dvd with a hard drive bay. Is it true that it's just sata 2?

So you have partitioned the drive into 3 partitions. For example OS, DATA1, DATA2 and there is no more Recovery Partition left on the drive itself? If this assumption is correct, then there is nothing left to do than clean install with an install disc that you can download from here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-digitalriver-windows-7-sp1-13-languages.html

Then install drivers manually from HP website.

is there an iso available for the recovery disks?

Also, is there a way to create recovery disks? my laptop didn't come with the hp recovery manager (does it?)

I don't think there is. My 8560w came with OS and driver disc, along with Bluray player disc. Not a recovery disc in the common sense, rather a clean install discs.

If you have original install there should be some way to create recovery discs. Unfortunately my system had no original install left so I have no idea if there is an app for that or not...

Like it's been said just a few posts back.

You can download official Windows 7 ISOs from digital river.

Your windows serial is under the battery pack.

I'm thinking of upgrading my 8560w's dvd to bdre. I found one for sale for upgrade bay but this one is for 8760w

One question though will the bdre from an 8760w work as they are from the same family and both are ugprade bay (from the hp part site they have different model numbers) ? Will the bezel be the same?

Just pull the bezel off the DVD drive if it doesn't. It is very easy to do. Personally, I just bought an LG BT20N BD-RE for $100, swapped bezels and it works great.

Hello, can you help me? A friend of me has an Elitebook 8560w with the groundbreaking Dreamcolor Display. But he has no possibility to calibrate the Display.

And he has no ambition to do that because he don´t believe that he would profit from that. The Question is now, can you send me your ICC Calibration file and give me some advice how to do?
I´m looking forward to hear from you.

    Greetings from Germany

    The MotorolaMan

There is special hardware for that, like the Spyder.
Maybe a shop near you does color calibration for a fee.

You could also get a color palette and do it with your own eyes.

quadro 1000m video card too, which i dont like because of the battery life. thats about my only gripe though. this makes my 8440p seem sort of lame!

only thing is, where is the volume control? i see a mute button, but no vol up and down..

    That's strange, indeed.
That said, the new 8570w seems to have SATAIII for the bay instead of mSATA connector. HP must know that there are more users purchasing a bay to put an SSD than those using/needing fast access through mSATA cache...

So, after noticing that there was a new driver on AMD's site for the FirePro, I downloaded it to try out, as I'm no longer using my 8560W for gaming, and figured I might be better off going back to FirePro M5950 mode rather than "Radeon 6770" mode.

Every time I use the FirePro drivers, I lose the ability to start my laptop with the lid closed, outputting via DP to my LCD, and have it work upon opening the lid. I have to do a full shutdown and restart with the lid open to see the screen. When I'm forcing it to be detected as a Radeon via manual install of the drivers, it always works normally.

This has happened to me in the past as well with the FirePro drivers, and was resolved with going back to Radeon back then. It's happened despite the system being reformatted, and I thin it happened when running Windows 7 as well as 8 (sorry, I've been on 8 too long to remember).

    Anyone with similar issues?

thanks. thats probably the only thing i think is wrong with this laptop... even many budget laptops have volume buttons!

otherwise though, this is by far the most kick computer i have ever had. its just flat out awesome in every way.

one thing that sucks about mine though, the battery tabs are broke, so i have to tape the battery to keep it from falling out. the fix looks like a whole chassis replacement, which is only $50 for the part but likely a couple hours of labor. its fine though, i never take the battery out... im very surprised at the battery life!! 3+ hours easy under moderate use!

I have to publish this here because it took me a very long time to find the location of the backlight timeout setting window on my 8560w. It's buried a bit.

Here is the path to the keyboard backlight timeout settings:
"Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use"
then scroll to the bottom to "Keyboard Settings" then the "HP Device Settings" tab.

You can even set it to "Never" timeout but I am trying the 5 minute setting.

Well, in fact I just tested mine and it shows full SATA III performance. So I don't know where this information come from (I have F.03 BIOS). See results below with a Samsung 840 Pro in the optical bay of my 8560w:

When I have time I'll setup a RAID0 volume with two Corsair GTX Neutron that I have and I will report results here.

In the meantime, I did it with two Samsung pro in my 8570w and the results are below:

It should be the same with the 8560w.

    Cheers.

I did a thread search and didn't get any hits, so I'll ask the question....

Has anyone tried swapping CPU from i7 Sandy Bridge to i7 Ivy Bridge?

The socket is the same, the BIOS is the same and I know that desktop motherboards that were originally Sandy Bridge can take an Ivy Bridge so long as the BIOS is updated. So it's theoretically possible to swap out an i7 2xxx qm with an i7 3xxx qm and maybe even the gpu and get near an 8570w performance at least with cpu and gpu.

Probably just better off waiting until the new Haswell based mobile workstations come out, but oh I love to tinker...

You cannot do that, first of all chipset isn't the same (and the chipset in the 8560w doesn't support Ivy) - don't confuse mobile with desktops, second of all just because the BIOS version is the same it doesn't mean that it's the same thing (did you compare the code, AGESA?).
GPU on the other hand could be doable since it's the same connector (MXM), but there can be a chance of BIOS not allowing you to use a newer GPU.

Excellent info. While I thought there might be a chance that the chipset was compatible, I wasn't sure, hence the question. I did pickup an M4000 GPU, so I am still likely to give that a shot while I wait for the 8580w (or whatever it's going to be called)

I have an 8560W with the Quadro 1000 card and it has the 120watt PSU which is old style rectangular brick

Is there a better genuine HP PSU available, which is smaller/lighter? It would need to be 120watt or above for my laptop

If anyone has sourced one, can you please share where from / part number etc

    Thanks.

    Goodbye, my friend!

I'm sad to say that I'm stupid, and sold my 8560W. No more gorgeous 10 bit DreamColor 2, and the 8 bit IPS on my Thinkpad doesn't even come close. No more glass touchpad, no more horsepower.

    What have I done?

Some Thinkpad X models have it as an option. The Thinkpad tablets have it by default. I picked up a new i3 X230T off the outlet back in January or so for $500, and that's been the laptop that I've spent all my time on. I built a gaming desktop in March, so I didn't need the 8560W to cover those duties, and built an ESXi server last year, so I didn't need it to cover those duties. Basically, it was a laptop that wasn't as mobile, wasn't as good for gaming, and wasn't as useful for virtualization as what got built up around it. I didn't have an occasion to need to take that power with me...so I pulled its SSDs, and set it free.

For my 85602 with a Q2000M I use the HP 574638-001 SMART TRAVEL ADAPTER
    Original HP Part-No.: 574487-001
    Replacement Part-No.: 574638-001

Only 65W – but for me has enough power when travelling
Very small, very light – and not the big big powerblock

My 8560w came with 644698-003 200W slim adapter.

I usually carry small 65W in my bag. It works with both my elitebooks and sometimes I forget to take the 200W anyways :) So it's nice to have a backup.

Hi, I have this exact problem with my 8560w. Did you find out what caused it? I would like to fix my laptop as soon as possible, and shipping it away for repairs (under warranty) would take too long.

    Thanks!

Usually the blinking battery led means empty battery but apparently that is not the case. Does the laptop work without battery in place? I've encountered couple cases when broken battery prevented computer from booting.
