Wii, I have been using Windows Media Player 12 since it has worked for me on my previous laptop.
I downloaded the Splash player and it did not play smoothly for me.
My camera is the Sony HX100V.
Also, I am running in the High Performance power mode with AC adapter connected.
Swedishdude, I will run 3DMark 11 Basic as soon as I get it installed.
In the meantime, try this very short footage from my camera and see if it plays smoothly for any of you.
Go to the bottom right of the screen and you should be able to download the clip.

OK, here are my 3DMark 11 scores. This was the Basic edition so it wouldn't let me run it at full resolution.

I have the Sony HX9V, and everything is completely smooth.
Did you do a clean install, or did you just use the pre-installed Windows + applications? Did you upgrade all drivers? A file like that has to be played smooth on machines like ours.
-
I went with the pre-installed OS.
I am doing a re-install from the DVD now. -
OK, the reinstall did it. Not sure the reason why I had to though.
Nice smooth playback with Media Player.
Thanks for the advice. -

I got 8560W LW924AW couple of days ago. I must say that I am not impressed. I switched from my old reliable IBM T42 and I already miss some of the features that I loved at T42.
First of all, the keyboard on HP is far behind the ergonomics and quality of the keyboard on T42. I also had recent experience with Lenovo T410 so I can compare those two as well. I consider myself as good typist but still having problems with the keyboard on HP. The enter key is so small (croatian layout) so it happens that I miss it. Cursor keys for up and down are not placed very well and small either. There is no gap between function key groups... I'm sure going to miss my old keyboard.
Trackpoint. Why does it have to be convex? Just to be different from Lenovo? Beats me. I find concave trackpoint much better solution. I had to change defalut setting to higher sensitivity.
Touchpad is better than on T410. I like smooth surface better than textured one at Lenovo. Buttons could be smaller, but generally touchpad is very good.
The concept of fingerprint security is better on T410. You can turn the laptop just by swiping the finger. HP doesn't offer that feature. You have to turn it on and then at preboot swipe the finger. Also, I had ability to use fingerprint in more apps in windows on T410. It might be better standardized I guess.
Acitivity lights for hdd, wireless are positioned so badly. You have to lift laptop to see if hdd is working or move away from it. Not practical at all.
I had ips screen on my T42 so I knew that I could be dissapointed with the quality of HP screen. But I must say that it is pretty decent for TN, except that mine has one dead subpixel (red dot somewhere around the middle of the screen). This is not covered by dead pixel policy, so I will have to live with it.
Speaking about good things, the first thing that I must say is that I love the battery life. I managed to squeeze over 4 hours of extensive work on this machine. That was one of the reasons that I chose W instead of P series. Better battery life and I like it.
The build quality is good. The materials used are of high quality. The weight is on the heavy side.
I like the quick option to access memory and hdd inside of the laptop. Just one latch and that's it. But on the other hand, how often do I plan to change components inside?
Let's talk about the bad things a little bit more. Graphics. Huge dissapointment!!! How come, you must ask yourself because benchmarks of nvidia quadro 1000M are pretty decent. Well, I'm still trying to figure out the problem. 3D performance is really above average for laptop I guess. I score almost 9000 in 3dmark06. But the performance in windows 7 aero is simply put bad. When I move my windows around they stutter. When I minimize windows I can see delay (turned off window animation). I can only hope that nvidia will release drivers that will fix this problem. If not, I must say that this is so bad that it gives you feeling that you work on laptop with much weaker specs than they actually are. If anyone has solution for this poor 2d performance I would be grateful to hear it.
On the software side of the story, HP is below Lenovo standards as well. By saying that I mean the power utility, and especially connectivity utility. HP support assistant is so slow and I don't find it very useful. Lenovo has much better software update utility as well. Not much to say about it really. It is far behind the Lenovo standard.
Somebody must think why didn't I go with Lenovo then? Well, I did... I ordered T410 and it had the worst screen that I've seen at one laptop. TN LCD 1280x800. Viewing angles were so bad that I had to replace it. I thought, let's try with HP this time.At this point, that screen on Lenovo doesn't seem to be so huge flaw now. It was the only one. But, on the other hand, it might be just my different experience that I had in the past and I just need time to get used to. I just hope that the 2D performance will be fixed somehow.

Thanks for your mini-mini-review, Silens. I'm sorry to hear about the poor performance of your 8560w. As a long-time T-padder, I can understand your perspective. And, yes, the 1280-800 TN screen on the T410 is not even in the ballpark of the IPS screens from T-pad. I've seen the best screen on the new 520W, and I'm not sold on that, either. I'm waiting for one -- or more -- of the big three, Lenovo, HP, and Dell, to put it ALL together. Then I'll bite. I'm holding off until then.
-
I've only had mine for a day, so I'll reserve judgement until I've got some real hours on it before I chime in. -
I haven't tried Lenovo's power management, so I can't comment on that, but with my experience, HP, and especially Dell, tweak settings that significantly boost battery life compared to Windows 7 power settings.
-
quick question, need a notebook for basic to regular, not so complicated CAD work and 3D modeling, will the 8560w be too much or am i good to go with the m14x?
m14x with i7 2630qm, 8gb, gt555m, 900p or
8560w with i7 2630qm, 8gb, firepro m5950 FHD
they're both at arounf 1400, and i don´t mind doing some gaming -

Because Microsoft cannot take time to program Windows for every type of hardware configuration that exists. Each has their own uniqueness. This has been true since day one. It's why many people grow frustrated and switch to Apple. I prefer some choice, so I have stayed away from Apple until now. I hope to remain a MS/Intel user, but we have to deal with what's available, what does the job best. -
According to this guide, all that's required to access the heatsink is to remove...
- Battery
- Bottom Door
When in reality you need to remove the Bottom Cover before you can get to the fan & heatsink.
The steps should be
- Battery
- Bottom Door
- Hard Drive
- Optical Drive
- WLAN Module
- Keyboard
- Bottom Cover
- Fan
IMHO that's just a bit different than what the service guide says.
Edit:Just discovered that there are two completely different 8560w service guides. One is right, the other is DEAD WRONG. ARRRGG!!!! -
So now I know why my 8560w was doing an auto shutdown every time I tried to run the Windows Experience Index on it. Of course no contact between the heatsink and GPU will tend to do that.
I cleaned off the TIM from both the CPU & GPU, put a new coat on, screwed things down, pulled them off to make sure I had contact and dressed things up before putting everything back together.
Just like everyone else, HD is the slowest @ 5.8 and the GPU scoring 6.9
Time to pickup one of those new Crucial M4 SSDs.Attached Files:

If anyone thinks China cares about the quality of the products they produce, I've got a really swell bridge for sale in New York, almost brand new.
China's goal is one thing: take as much money and debt from America and other western nations. Then, when the time is right, call in the chips.
I would pay 50% more to buy my electronics from any country in the world other than China. -
It was rumoured some time ago that HP will assemble some notebooks in Japan (I guess EliteBooks mainly, they have been a disaster in terms of quality in my opinion), but after knowing the news about the PSG spin-off I highly doubt that. -
Anyone know if there is a way to adjust the keyboard backlight settings? Mine turns off too early.
-
I'll post a review in the next few days on my 8560w (which just came in this week), but I'd like to let potential buyers know that this machine is amazing. I've been running dreamweaver, photoshop, illustrator (all CS5, crysis 2 on ultra dx 11 settings, black ops on max settings, and barely a hickup. Now, I've noticed that when disconnected from the power supply the machine will slow down a bit, but I'm sure that can be fixed with an advanced power option.
Either way, the machine has the best build quality on the market (for a windows PC) and a battery life of 3hrs will get me by.
All I need now are two more RAM sticks and an SSD, and I'll be set. -

Anyone hav5ing issues with stuck keys? M^y keyboard is producing all sorts of weird extra characters whenev5er I type certain words.
Only 2 weeks old....Crap! -
My wifi adapter was (also) faulty when my unit arrived, but it's getting fixed tomorrow. -
Just for info: I leave the 200W brick in the office… and use the SMART TRAVEL 65W AC ADAPTER when on the road. Has enough power for working and even a bit of charging.
And weighs only 220grams instead of 920grams... -

Can anybody tell me which type (OEM) of 256GB SSD HP uses?
Also what's the speed difference between FirePro M5950 and the Quadro 1000/2000? -
5950>1000
5950<2000 (cads)
5950~2000 (games, depends)
edit: for games I would prefer firepro: it scores more in 3dmark and many games and it is a lot cheaper. But if you want this as a professional workstation for all those CADs I don't really know much about I've read Quadro is the way to go. -
The FirePro M5950 scores 6.9 WEI on both Aero and Business\gaming. I know the quadro on my 8540w was in the 5's. Yuck. -
at least fits with the SATA2 specs from the Product Bulletin
256 GB 2.5-inch SATA Solid State Drive
Interface SATA Gen 2
Maximum Sequential Read Up to 265 MB/s
Maximum Sequential Write Up to 220 MB/s
128 GB 2.5-inch SATA Solid State Drive
Interface SATA Gen 2
Maximum Sequential Read Up to 250 MB/s
Maximum Sequential Write Up to 140 MB/s -
Quadro 2000 gets 6.9/6.9
but I prefer it more then ATI -
Hello everybody,
I'm planning to buy the 8560w within the next days - but I would like to have a look at it first. Does anyone know a company/reseller/shop in Hamburg, Germany where I could check the 8560w out?
Any help would be highly appreciated. -
Obviously you're on your own when it comes to replacing drives, but there's about zero problems with it. -
I would do that (no problems already built own PCs). It's just that we now have the university-special in Austria and it includes an SSD:
i7-2760QM QuadCore 2,40 GHz
256 GB SSD
8 GB RAM
15,6, Full-HD non-glare (1920 x 1080)
AMD FirePro M5950 (1GB GDDR5 RAM)
Blu-ray ROM DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL
3 Year Warranty
Windows 7
1.699,-
I don't think that the offer is that bad.
Other possibility is to buy a 8560p:
i7-2620M 2,70 GHz
500 GB SATA
8 GB RAM
15,6, Full-HD non-glare (1920 x 1080)
AMD Radeon HD 6470M (1GB RAM)
DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL
3 Year Warranty
Windows 7
1.229,-
This one would be slower and with the SSD swap would come to similar costs (except buying a smaller one and placing the normal HD into the DVD slot - as far as i know the 8560p/w don't take the new mSATA SDDs) -
right now I´m the only one with a 8560w, although we have a couple of 8530p and 8530w flying around with some tekkies. -
I'm a freelancer so b2b would be just right.
Is it possible to have a look at the 8560w at your company and maybe also order it from you? -
Will be in the office from Tuesday next week again, having a customer migration over the weekend. -

If you meant this as "not so great HDD when compared to SSD" then nevermind this

Hi I am thinking of getting a hp elite book 8560w i7. Can anyone tell me if the laptop is noisy ? E.g when using office and surfing the web. Also what's it like when under load?
Thanks
B -
Its hardly noticeable. Under load, .. i would say that its quiete good too.
-
Is the DreamColor worth the extra $$$?
-
NecessaryEvil Notebook Evangelist
I certainly don't regret going with it. If you can handle the biproduct of the aggressive anti-glare coating, it's a phenomenal screen, and I'm noticing colors that even my U2410 isn't showing (and it's also a 10 bit IPS)
-
I bought it specifically for the dreamcolor and I love one single bit of it's 10bit capacity
-
If you can live with the grain and the oversaturated colors, then yes
-
It's excellent.
It's worth it...
Best, Walter -
-
Yeah, but the grain is still there...
