I Сhanged nvcvi.inf and nvami.inf
I don't know how to reflash Vbios Maxwell GPU. But there are acquaintances who can.
-
If you have doubts how to do it, send it to me via PM and I will do it for you. -
Success! Put 388.13 nVidia driver where changed nvcvi.inf and it all worked! thanks for the help
Now I adjust the colors. How to enable 10 bits? Something with a shade of gray, not enough colors. -
Glad it worked!
For 10bit color you need to select it from nVidia Control Panel.
Greyscale banding is something you have to deal with. It is like this with DC2 and Maxwell GPUs. Actually with every GPU which is uncalibrated and unpaired originally with the Color board behind the screen from the factory. Sorry..I have it too..
-
-
Does anyone know how to solve the problem? When you start the laptop after sleeping, black screen. It helps only to turn it off completely and enable it
-
Turn „Fast Boot“ off from power management.
Actually as far as I can remember this was unresolvable problem with Maxwell GPUs and 8760W, I had it too.
My current 8770W doesn‘t have this issue. -
-
But it should work (except waking up from sleep mode, as you have already noticed)Last edited: Jul 17, 2019 -

Does anyone know what the max physical size HDD any of the Elitebooks to Zbook G2's can take? I'm thinking of a 8770W or Zbook 17G1 w/ 2 2TB's and a 5TB 15MM, which has me questioning if itll fit. I know officially the max height is 12.7MM in the DVD bay, but can anyone share any insight?
-
2ТB is the max 8770W can take.
15mm is way too heavy for the SATA port and you will need to consider massive modifications to get it stable.
I am using 2x2TB and 2x500GB SSD on my 8770W. -
I have given up on my HP Elitebook 8760w. It was a great system while it lasted, Couldn't keep it cause it was hard to keep cool in the environment I live in. The GTX 870M I had in it ended up dying because of the VRAM, ended up giving it back to the eBay seller.
I plan on parting it out soon, the casing is modified, On the bottom of the laptop, I added feet for raising it up more I also took out the meshes out of the bottom of the laptop for better air flow, painted the palm rest with black spray paint because the metal was fading, this is the reason for parting it out.
Here's a list of things I will be selling if you're interested.
- Motherboard (Quad Memory Slots) Has BIOS password, WIll provide the password. $80
- I7 2760qm $40
- 45 W CPU cooling Solution (Dual Heat Pipe.) $40
- 100W GPU Cooling Solutuiin (Nvidia, Dual heat pipe.) (8770w Fan incl.) $40
Can't sell on eBay because I owe them money for selling my phone. (Got screwed on a free phone sale offer, the ebay people didn't give me my money back.)
I will probably sell it on Mercari, or Offerup. Whatever I can ship with.
Note: If this isn't allowed, feel free to take it down if you want. | Prices are in USD. -
You’ve made a wrong choice for the GPU - GTX 8xxM series are extremely hot.
My M5000m doesn’t reach 72C with 35C temp outside and ~24-27C inside.
Keep in mind that the placement/thickness of the thermal pads is crucial. -
For those who are interested, I've found vBIOS for M1000M that will work flawlessly with 8560w/8760w (any display version). Replaced stock 3000M with M1000M on my friend's laptop this week - works like a charm.

The CPU would run at 90c, and was only able to turbo boost to 2.6ghz. This might have also been from the 870m causing too much heat in the system. Even when I had the GTX 770m, the CPU would be around 90c. Sometimes the CPU would even go up to 94c
-
During the summer it is normal I would say...
My 3840 QM also reaches 90+ but works at 3.4-3.5GHz turbo boost. Mainly when I play intensive 3D games which are very CPU dependent.
Otherwise in games like BF or GTA, the CPU operates at 75-80C at most. -

I hate cloud storage, its just a inferior option to anything else I've considered, especially considering I'd have to pay for it when I can just buy a laptop/desktop for a one time price or put a NAS together for under $50
Ok so with the 8770W, I'd be looking at ~14TB max (2TB HDD, 2 5TB HDDs, 2TB MSATA) or in my use case around 6TB (2 2TBs, 1 1.5TB, 1 512GB MSATA) same with a Zbook.
Can you tell me how the keyboard is on the 8770W? I'd be willing to forgo a little CPU performance if the keyboard is bearable, the Zbooks is barely just so.
TLDR just curious about max storage for either laptop as I have a lot of spare HDDs laying around from work -
Hi all. I need help. Can I upgrade my hp 8760w graphics to quadro K3000m? And will I need to change vbios? I just don't understand anything about it, but my quadro 3000m dont work ...
-
Correct me if I am wrong. If the vbios on the K3000m is from hp, then it will immediately work on my 8760w, and if it is from Dell, then I will need to change the vbios. Right ?
Will this one work with my 8760w without changing vbios?

I read somewhere here that K-series GPU on 8760w is just on the contrary - vBios from Dell works fine, where the one for HP gives black screen. Go figure...
Normally Dell’s vBios works without problems on HP 8760/8770W -
Does this mean that I may not have to update vbios? Or should it be done anyway?
-

Hi mirage_bg. I have a question for you. In the old comments on this forum, you wrote that you had a black screen problem when downloading win,a black screen occurs. You had then hp8760w and gtx 980m. I have Hp 8760w and gtx 970m and i have the same problem. I just found that in the BIOS call, after a couple of seconds, the black screen turns off. This is how my photo looks like a problem. How did you solve the problem?
-
In general, it seems that the north bridge has been covered. Put quadro 3000m. The display also turns off, but when I turn off the laptop in sleep mode and turn it on, wave-like colored stripes will begin to appear on the screen....
-
I don’t really understand your particular problem as you describe it, but basically I resolve it by installing Win 10 in UEFI mode.
Turn fast boot off and don’t use sleep mode.
That’s it. And use nVidia driver version 388.x
I don’t really understand your second post.
Basically stripes on the screen indicate GPU problem.Last edited: Aug 29, 2019 -
Hello everyone! Just bought a M5000M GPU for my 8770W Non-Dreamcolor, upgrading from Firepro M4000, I changed the heatsink, I swapped the GPU, turning on the laptop, I get some LED`s on... but nothing on the screen, not even booting into BIOS, I have a docking station, connected at 2 other monitors, nothing on either one... please help!
-
Make a photo of the GPU, please.
Which brand did you buy - Dell, HP?
Which version of vBios is preloaded on the GPU?
Did you use the standard X-Bracket of your M4000? Did you put the right thickness of the thermal pads?
Make a photo of the graphic card without heatsink, as it is mounted on the mainboard.Last edited: Sep 4, 2019 -
Title says "N16E-Q5-A1 HP ZBook Dell 7710 M6800 Nvidia Quadro M5000M 8GB GDDR5 Video Card" in the listing under the Brand syas "Dell" . I am using the GPU`s X-Bracket that it came with it already mounted on. I used the right thickness of the thermal pads and Kryonaut Thermal Paste as well.
Meanwhile, I swapped back the GPU`s, since I only have this PC as my daily driver PC. But here are some pictures with the GPU... -
Don’t use the bracket which the card came equipped with, use the original one of your previous M4000.
If the screen doesn’t show anything , this means either incompatible vbios or faulty card.Last edited: Sep 4, 2019 -
That’s why it doesn’t show anything on your screen.
You need to reflash the card with Dell’s vBios from here:

Is the M5000M recommended over the 980M for any particular reason? Aside from quadro specific features of which I'll never need.

Better ASIC quality chips over GTX. -
Hey, I'm new here and couldn't found an hp 8770w lounge so the most relevant thread to ask my questions was here and I would want some enlightenment (especially @mirage_bg ) from any hp 8770w user that have tried or that they are certain about the following. Little flashback, I come from a 3rd gen sony vaio but recently it shows me it's last signs of life due to I think graphic malfunctioning with BSOD error: tdr video failure. I also get some green dots columns artifacts in my screen and tried pretty much anything softerwise to fix it from windows clean install to latest and oldest driver installation but with no outcome, since once I install any drivers I get a black screen and when I reboot it I get BSOD. Cutting to the chase, I'm not much of a techy guy but know some basic stuff from installing windows/drivers to watching many hours of videos building pcs and stuff but just learned how to flash a vbios which I heard multiple times though never looked into it. Now I want to replace my laptop with the hp 8770w if I'll ever find it in a good price since I'll upgrade some things if not all of them and was pretty much settled to it because of it's build quality and upgradability. Any knowledge of what I'm about to refer would be much appreciated on these matters.
1. I was wondering if a Pascal mxm 1070 would run smoothly with the 8770w cooling capabilities? I found that the most power hungry graphics card at this lineup is the K5000m quadro with a tdp of 100w meanwhile the 1070 is drawing 135w... will it thermal throttle and will a 3820mq will be enough as a processor power or will it bottleneck?
2. I think that the quadro lineup has bigger heatpipes and block (due to higher tdp vs the amd one) but just to make sure for the cpu and gpu. Which version does it come with these because I wouldnt like to spend extra money unless it is mandatory and none is coming with it. See picture for reference of what I'm talking about.
3. Is it capable to cool the 3920mx adiquetly or will it bootleneck. I know it's a minuscule difference and surely not worth the extra heat and money with the respectively 3820mq but I just want to know just for validation.
4. Will I have to run a vbios on the 1060 or 1070 mxm in order to run with the 8770w?
5. Lastly, I know there are some version of a dreamcolor panels version which I think have phenomenal color accuracy and is great for content creation purposes but will it run with a 1060 or 1070 or will I have problems running it? Is it also worth the price? of 150-170$? or just a fhd typical panel is adequate and will do? -
Just to answer shortly and clearly to your questions:
GTX 1070 is only possible with DreamColor panel, because it uses eDP output. I highly don’t recommend putting 1070 on 8770, because the cooling solution is not enough to keep it cool and you will see temps around 90+C which is way too high.
P3000/P4000 need both vBios from Dell to work on our 8770 and even then you need DreamColor screen for the same reason as above. 1060 requires DreamColor too and modification of the heatsink (Dremel work).
Quadro M5000M/GTX 980m both work absolutely perfect (no mods needed, the only requirement is UEFI based Win 10)
Same is valid for the CPU as well - XMs are not recommended, simply because you cannot use their capabilities (O/C isn’t possible, locked as an option on bios level from HP), so you will get only a lot of unneeded heat (55W CPU). The best choice is 3840QM which gives you the speed of 3920XM, but runs way cooler with its 45W.
DreamColor is a beauty and big step ahead from the normal fHD, but it is expensive and rare.
CPU wont bottleneck anything up to 1060.Yourtypicaluser likes this. -
2. Is the i7 3840mq bottlenecking the m5000m?
3. Also sorry for asking again but I didn't get an answer about the heatpipe block of the gpu and cpu. I found that the quadro lineup has type b heatsinks, is that right? And which cpus if you may know have double heatpipes (or do they all come with the double one)?
4. Does the m5000m require a dreamcolor panel and how do they fluctuate in price in your experience?
Thanks for your time for helping me out btw @mirage, much appreciated!Last edited: Sep 6, 2019 -
2. No, as I wrote you in my previous post , CPU won’t be a problem with anything up to and including 1060.
3. Yes, you need to buy the two-heatpipes version of the heatsink (the version for MXM 3.0b GPUs) and same for the CPU - you need the two-heatpipes ver.
4. M5000M doesn’t require DC screen - if it runs on ordinary fHD, you can use it on Win 7/8.1/10. With DC screen you can use it only on 8.1/10, with UEFI enabled in bios. Please, take a look at google what UEFI is and the difference between Legacy and UEFI bios. -
So, in order to flash the M5000M, I and keeping my old one in the laptop, use Rufus and NVFlash, do all the steps needed, once II am ready, do I turn off the laptop, swap the GPUs and then turn on and flash? or i just flash it with the old GPU in, once it is done, just do the swap? How do I save a copy of my old vBIOS at first? Thank you in advance for your time! -
No, you need another laptop with MXM 3.0b slot or USB programmer (can be found on eBay for around 10-15$).
I don‘t recommend doing this by your own though. Ask a friend or a guy who know how to do it. -
Mastermind5200 Notebook Virtuoso
I'd recommend the USB Programmer option
-
With the programmer it won‘t work actually because the vbios chip on Quadro M5000M is different from the one on GTX 970/980.
The programmer can‘t clip the chip of the Quadro as there are not visible pins:
Quadro vbios chip:

This is just absolutely way to difficult. I am wondering if anyone can do it, like a computer shop, or send it to someone and have it flash it. -
-
Your rescue laptop has to be with Optimus enabled, so you can see the second GPU while inserted in the slot, where the iGPU will take care to boot the system and start Windows.
How to flash Maxwell GPU is very detailed explained in Google. But here you are for example:

It's not really that hard in actuality. -
@mirage_bg
Sorry again for asking just having some questions
1. Can you give me some info about drilling the heatsink for the 1060 mxm and all of other things that may come with it.
2. I'm considering buying a 8770w with a quadro k3000m. I just want to clarify ,will it have the gpu mxm 3.1 heatsink block because the k3000m is a big one.
3. Can't you flash vbios with integrated intel graphics on the same laptop?
Thanks a lot! -
https://forum.51nb.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1733740&mobile=2
It is a Chinese site, but it will give you a visual idea what has to be modified on the HS.
2. Yes, quadro K-series comes with the bigger, two heat pipes heatsink for MXM 3.0b cards (there is no such a thing as MXM 3.1 for 8760/8770).
3. You can’t use the integrated gpu on 8760/8770 as it is locked on bios level.
That’s why you need another machine with working iGPU/Optimus.Yourtypicaluser likes this. -
@mirage_bg
I was wondering if you had any tips for me. I'm trying to get a zbook 17 G2 to run off a m5000m I almost get it running it will Post and run fine on windows drivers however as soon as I install Nvidia drivers for it by modding .inf file it installs fine but screen goes black after install however I still get video out of vga games fine and everything . Idk.. I'm starting think it might just be that it's not compatable with the dreamcolor screen. I might test it with a reg screen before I give up on it just to see if I'm right but wanted to see if anyone had any tips I could try first. -
Which installation method did you use for Windows - UEFI or Legacy?
Which version of windows do you have installed on the laptop?Yourtypicaluser likes this. -

Last thing that I didn't mention in my last question. What about the cpu heatsink in an 8770w, does it come with double heatpipes or with just one? According to a 36**qm preinstalled or higher if that might helps. Thanks again so much for your time buddy
