If it’s 36xxQM preinstalled, it should come with double-pipe heatsink.
All i7 CPUs come with it.

    @mirage_bg

I've tried both UEFI and Legacy does the same thing. Only thing of interest I found is it won't boot the m5000m in UEFI without csm.
I tried it just to see laptop just seemed dead couldn't boot up laptop at all til I reinstalled original card.

    It's windows 10.

Try with older graphic driver - 385.x or 386.x

I tried 383.x but same. I'll try 385.x or 386.x and see if I notice any difference.

Turn Fast Boot off in bios, turn it off in Windows too and tell if there is any difference.
Try UEFI without CSM and with Fast boot turned off.

Sorry for my late reply I was having some issues with my ssd, windows and a m6800 I was using as my daily driver. Some how shorted out my mobo very weird.

Anyways I tired turning off fastboot in windows but still the same blank screen once drivers are installed.
Also can't try UEFI without CSM as m5000m won't boot at all.
Only UEFI with CSM and legacy Boot the m5000m.
On my zbook 17 g2. Upgraded to lastest bios and everything still nada.

Have you considered reflashing the vbios of the card? Is this HP or Dell branded M5000M ?

It's a dell card I have reflashed it but only to a different dell vbios as I couldn't find a HP vbios for the M5000m.
Interesting enough I had a M4000m a few months ago with a HP bios and it wouldn't boot at all no matter I did.

So I think the HP vbios doesn't work with these zbooks ( which is weird that a dell bios would work better on a HP machine) still I was willing to give it a shot Worse case I have to put card back into my M6800 and reflash to stock.

Can you name a laptop with a MXM 3.0b? I still have that video card taking space on my desk, I really wanna install it in my 8770W... I am wondering id I get a USB programmer and solder the wires as they do are about a bit exposed, not enough for the programmer`s clip to grab the pins, but I might be able to solder wires with a tiny soldering gun...

That sounds too hard just get your hands on a dell like laptop with a MXM 3.0b like mirage says or a HP G3 17 since thats likely where the card is from.
The problem is not just the MXM 3.0b it's that you need a laptop that will boot that card with a HP bios.
From my experience I can say zbook G1/G2 17 are unlikely to work.

Just a quick follow up I think I figured out my issue. I thought the M5000m didn't work because of my dreamcolor screen turns it. The M5000m or any Maxwell card just don't seem to work on the zbooks g1/g2 at all. I tried it with a regular non dreamcolor screen and same thing. Well at first it kept using optimus integrated gpu and wouldn't let me install nvidia driver for some reason. So I disabled it in bios which is weird because that option wasn't there before I guess because of the DC screen idk. And well same thing boots fine install driver and black screen. Meh.... I'm just gonna put my M5000m into my 8770w and sell my zbook 17 g2.

Ok, it`s definitely over my hand to find a laptop and perform all of that just to flash my card. I will try to use the USB flash method, I have an Idea even if the pins are barely exposed and the clip that comes with is not able to grab them, but I gave an idea, I`ll take pictures, maybe I`ll take a video if is going to be any successful, I`ll keep you posted!

Ok so I tried M5000m on my 8770w DC and works great with driver 388.13. Only problem is it won't wake up after sleep. Which I can live with I guess. Really great temps was a nice surprise super great performance compared to old card.

Also None of the other drivers I tried seem to work. The 8770w would do the same thing my Zbook 17 would do. Which made me think the Zbook might also not work because of driver issue. I tried the same 388.13 but no luck. I did try some older drivers. And they sort of half worked I got display and off windows driver but they installed with error on card (that exclamation point in yellow triangle thing) . ohh well.....

Isn’t 388.13 a game driver for GeForce GPUs?
I am using 386.28 Quadro driver.
For not waking up after sleep mode turn Windows Fast Boot from power options.
Would you share what is your ASIC quality of the GPU (you can find this info in GPU-Z)

    Yeah
I tried turning off Windows fast boot but it still won't wake normal only to black screen. Yeah it is but it's the only driver I found that works and outputs to my display. I tried 388.71 and it gave me a bunch of weird colors. I also tried 386.28 Quadro driver but that one just gives me black screen like vga output like the others. What Vbios are you running? I'm on a dell vbios 84.04.9B.00.16

My card is ASIC is 71% according to GPU-z

I think if you update the vbios to my version, this will resolve your problems with the quadro drivers and black screens you get after wake up from sleep mode.

I updated the vbios and driver to the one you are used but same issue.
388.13 works fine but no sleep. 386.28 only displays to output.
Which files did you have to mod to get that driver to install?
I modded nvblw and nvhmwi to get it to install.

Only nvblw. There are three lines you have to modify.
Can you send me your nvblw.inf file to see how you have modified it and to correct it if needed.
Don’t modify any other .inf file except nvblw.

From the official nVidia website. Just write „Quadro 326.28 Win 10“ in google and download it from the official nVidia website.

Can you make a photos of every setting you‘ve done in your system bios and post them here? I would like to see where is the problem.

    Really strange..
I tried you vbios as it seems to be a newer version than the one on my m5000m and and don‘t experience such a black screens at all. Can use any nvidia driver and no problems whatsoever...

So you can use any driver with only newer vbios or both?
I'm thinking maybe it's my laptops bios version thats the problem. I had one from 2012 then I updated to the latest 2019 version before I installed card. Too bad this laptop won't let me flash back to older versions so I can check.

Which bios version/year rev on your laptop?

When I had m5000m (I am using 8770 with 1070 now) both vbioses allowed me to install and use any driver I wanted.
My system bios is the latest one from 2019 - F.71.

Yeah that weird I'm using the same bios.
I got the idea to try that driver gaming driver from a guy on this thread who also said he had driver issues with the M5000m and the 8770w.
So it's not just me idk.. Anyways I decided to just live with it for now. I got another 8770w coming I might swap the card in there see if it makes a difference.

Also that's cool I didn't know the 8770w supported newer cards like the 1070. How you do it? Is it a straight swap with the gpu heatsink?
I'm thinking about trying a P3000m when I get some cash later or when prices drop a bit.

Yup, straight swap, no need of heatsink modding. You only need to be with DreamColor screen to get Pascal gpus working on 8770W.

another quick question.....will the 8770w cpu and gpu cooling units work inside the 8760w? I have both lying around an I'd think they would cool better...... Might as well ask this as well ....Is there any way to increase the illumination of the 8670w,s backlit keyboard.....I've searched the web and found nada .....

    Hi!
I have an 8760w that i mostly use to 3d modeling and finite element stuff. It has a 2820qm now with 8gb of ram, and i'd like to install 32gb ram.
I've read trough most of this thread but couldn't find (or missed) the answer for my question:
    Can a 8760w use 4x8Gb DDR3 1600MHz CL9 ram?
At this moment G.skill ripjaws 16Gb 1600MHz CL9 kit (f3-1600c9d-16grsl) a bit cheaper in local stores than any standard CL11, but i read some systems wont work with that.

Also, I planned some upgrades on this machine, but if I understand it correctly, 8760w has quite strong limitations, thus I better get a 8770w if I want serious upgrades for normal everyday use?

I'm curious about these things too. At some point I would like to use my 8760w with proxmox for vm's and will need the ram and gpu upgrades.

8760W is very pretentious about GPU upgrades.
I won’t risk buying a GPU without testing it first, if I were you.

G.Skill Ripjaws will work just fine. Tested.
You need to update the bios to the latest version though.
When I had 8760W I even rewrote the SPD of the Ripjaws and forced them to work on CL7 / 1333Mhz. 1600Mhz is no go for 8760W - mobo limitation.

I seemed to gather that from the thread. I've got one of the upper end discrete units already in there, so I won't touch that.

Great that it can take 32gb of ram--that should be nice for virtual machines. :) What bios version should I make sure I have and can I just get it from the normal HP support site links or do I have to parse the ftp server?

I just checked it and it's already on F66. :) So I don't even have to worry. :D

Is there any way to fix the left hinge latch issue? Drives me a bit nuts since the rest of it works great.

No, the screen assembly is a bit twisted and there is no way to fix it except trying to bend the left pin down a bit so it can hook itself with the body part when the lit is closed. Or buying the entire lid assembly.

I had the same problem- I even thought it’s the base enclosure which makes this, but once I got the entire DC assembly- it fixed it.

What's a good way to bend the left pin? Is the metal malleable or is it brittle? What is the DC assembly?
