No I did not, and the Sata2 drive worked perfect, the Sata 3 drive required a Registry hack, but other than that it works great also.

to get the hidden power management settings, this page shows you how to do it.

Registry tweaks – Settings and Interface | All for Windows 64-bit

look at the first options and scroll down until you see the section 'To display hidden parameters for configuring the management processor power'

after a reboot, you will see the process management option i referred to earlier.

after tweaking the power save options, my fan does stop (occasionally) when i run on battery. when im plugged in, i have everything running full on.

i forgot to say that the hdd is actually pretty loud. i run an ssd/hdd config and in my power settings i have the hdd to shut down after 5 mins and when its off, the lappy is much quieter.

i can barely hear the fan when the hdd is shut off and sometimes the fan powers down too, so its ninja quiet.

I've adjusted the processor power settings but unfortunately still haven't managed to shut of the fan. I've shut down every process possible and set every power setting to minimum. The only thing I can think to do is give this guide from 4 years ago a try. Any idea if it would work? How to Reduce Fan Noise on HP Notebooks

Are you really surprised that you can't get hardware designed for 2011 to work with an operating system that is now two generations old?! Install Win 7.

Which wifi card would fit in the 4430s?

Make sure it is on the list of HP approved cards or you could run into problems. Search this forum for stories from other people who have run into this issue.

    Regarding the Bluetooth issue.
You are probably trying to install driver from different BT manufacturer...Try installing different bluetooth driver which can be found on HP support site... As far as I know, there are Atheros (in my case), Intel and Realtek bluetooth version installed in 4530s...
You should try same thing for webcam...
BTW you can find these drivers on the link below:

HP ProBook 4530s Notebook PC- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

    Cheers :)

I also got a 4430s and hoping to get it this weekend! Also bought a used quad-core i7-2630QM CPU from eBay that I'll swap out the factory i3. Crucial M4 128GB SSD just ordered from Amazon today! Can't wait!

Thanks to all for the helpful posts and comments. Upgrading from a C2D T8100 ThinkPad T61...

Also, can someone please tell me what's the best firmware to run if F.20 breaks HP's fingerprint software? Thanks!

My 4430s arrived yesterday. Typed up this quick review on TigerDirect. Please excuse the salesman tone, I wasn't allowed to mention specific companies.

I picked up the Case Logic 14" sleeve from Microcenter last night and it fits like a glove. So if you're looking for a case/sleeve, that one fits perfectly FYI.

I let the thing power up and do its thing... but as soon as it was done setting up all the HP bloatware, I grabbed my Windows 7 Pro x64 disc, formatted and did a clean installation.

Hey guys! I have posted this a few times in this thread, but still no answer. I put a 256GB Crucial C300 SSD in the spot of my main hard drive and move the OEM 320GB rotational hard drive to the optical bay. Whenever I shut down my Windows 7 installation I have to manually hold down the power button when the computer has completed it's "shutdown process." The "shutdown process" is where my screen goes black, my hard drive light stops, but my wifi light stays orange, my fan still runs, and the power button is still on.

It has done this on all the Bios' for the probook 4530s and I still can't find a fix. Occasionally it will shutdown by normally, but that is very rare.

Any help would be appreciated guys

Ok I assume you formatted the 320gb before relocating it in the optical bay,
Installed a fresh copy of win 7 on your crucial ssd and did NOT Defragmentate your SSD...by any means and finally set boot options to ssd of course. Have you been this far ?? Any more info please....

I have this Probook as an option:

    HP ProBook 4430s LJ517UT 14" 6hr - $575

Does that look good for the price?

I'm wondering why ppl still buy HP laptops, though. You aren't worried about HP's ongoing problems and support?

    Thanks for any replies.

Hi, I'm looking for a new notebook and I'm interested in the probook (4330s, 4530s).
My main doubt it's about the front side bus frequency, in the spec I see 667MHz. It's right? It doensn't affect performance heavely?

I did all of that. I just don't understand what it could be. This doesn't happen when I have either of the OEM or SSD in the main harddrive slot with the DVD Drive. Only when I have the dual harddrive.

    Didnt know that.

But if your so concerned then why even consider an HP in the first place?

If your asking in a thread where most people are seeming to be happy with their machines, then its probably safe to assume most people are happy with their machines aka HP and not concerned about HP's "problems"

it could very well be a thermal paste issue. i upgraded my cpu and i bought this thermal paste called phobia hegrease and from what i read, its the best on the market.

this may be a reason for my fan shutting down. if you can find it, give it a try.

can you give a bit more description of your setup?
for ex. are you a clean install or an image?
what software do you have installed
when you boot up can you see what processes are running that are not windows.
have you dont a virus scan lately
    etc.

i had strange stuff like this happening on my old dell and a fresh install fixed it, just installed programs 1 at a time and isolated the bad software.

i had problems installing my drivers as well and it was suggested to install them using the hp software manager in the SWSETUP folder from the original hdd that your lappy came with.

    that fixed my problems.

i also installed only the hp cam drivers and not the arcsoft.

Well, as you probably now. Webcam activates (if the proper driver is installed) when any application which is using a webcam activated...That means if you are trying to use a Skype for video calling, it will activate a webcam by itself when video call is started...And the same thing is with every other application for video calling...
Anyway, if you want to record video, take photos etc using a webcam, I would recommend you a Arcsoft Webcam Companion...I am using it and I am very satisfied...

If you didn't get USB 3.0 on your laptop originally like you had hoped, if you send it in for a repair and they replace the MB, you most likely will then get "upgraded" to USB 3.0. From the HP site:

    ------------------

    DESCRIPTION

The USB ports on the notebook no longer function after the system board is replaced.
    SCOPE

    HP ProBook 4230s Notebook PC

    HP ProBook 4330s Notebook PC

    HP ProBook 4331s Notebook PC

    HP ProBook 4430s Notebook PC

    HP ProBook 4431s Notebook PC

    HP ProBook 4530s Notebook PC
    RESOLUTION

This is a known issue with the operating system image. Originally, the notebook did not include USB 3.0 hardware so the corresponding device driver was not installed by default. If the notebook was part of a service event to replace the system board, then the USB hardware on that system board was also upgraded to USB 3.0. The USB ports may not function until the correct driver is installed.

To install the USB 3.0 device driver:

    Open Windows Explorer.
    Navigate to c:\swsetup\RENUSB
Double-click the setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

HP Software Setup cannot be used since the original image was placed on the unit when it did not have USB 3.0 hardware. The driver must be installed manually.

Shemmy, thanks for the quick reply! Is HP planning to fix the issue? Seems a little stupid to update your bios and it breaks something that is supposed to be a security measure and "protect" the user...

Guess until they decide, if ever, to fix it - I'll stay at F.09.

"FWIW, HP said it was my motherboard that was bad and they replaced it. Time will tell if this actually fixes the issue. Interestingly, the new MB's USB 3.0 port has the common blue "tongue" that my original one did not."
dude i am having the same problem after updating my BIOS! should i wait for a new version to come out or try and get it claimed in warranty?
