Very nice. :) Thank you so much for figuring out the thermal zones. Interesting that TZ_5 is the fan speed.

Jerry66, have a look at schoko's post here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5696771&postcount=422

On top of that try the following:
Uninstall current driver (through System panel, removing the files - it will prompt for it). Do a Windows Update and download the driver that it suggests. Reboot. Now follow Schoko's guide on installing it.
I believe you know how to do the 'have disk' method?

And let us know if you have any more troubles.

thanks , but I don't get this part "Do a Windows Update and download the driver that it suggests. Reboot "
why dl/install new win driver then do the have disk method . Why not just do the have disk method after the uninstall ?

You could do that of course. But I am not sure if you get rid of all driver files etc. you won't be missing something. I had it after using Driver Cleaner. It wiped out everything so well that any driver and CCC I tried to install did not want to work.
Try without installing the driver from WU.

    HI Jerry,

the method to install the driver is working as it should, just make sure you follow the steps to sign the system file atikmdag.sys. it´s the method described in the post that destiny linked for you.

after you are done signing the atikmdag.sys you will need to do two more little things...

    1. to get rid of the watermark please have a look here :

    2. Windows autoupdate

Now that you have got everything working you have to make sure it stays that way. if you are using win7 or vista you will soon realise that the automatic update knows it has a better driver for your (radeon-)grapics card.
you should make sure you don´t have to reinstall and sign the firegl-driver all the time because windows update thinks a radeon driver suits your card better

    jerry66, schoko,

Re 1: Your link seems to be dead?
    This method worked for me:
    http://depositfiles.com/files/0opcdih29
I have no idea where I found that one but it is perfect.

Re 2: you can hide this update so it is not bothering you anymore and keep automatic updates. Right click it and select 'Hide' :)

Schoko! again! BIG BIG BIG thanks for all the effort with the driver! Thanks to you I can enjoy Win7 and have the performance of Win XP 64 in my CAD :)

That is the same stuff I linked :)

BTW. Schoko, I seem to have an issue with the CCC. I can't install it from your driver package - or rather, I can install some items (using the setup) but the CCC is not listed.

    the ccc is a Pita.
since i rarely use it i haven´t had a look inside the installing routines of the ccc, but it seems that without modifying the ccc installation there is no joy in installing it.

a workaround might be to install the latest catalyst( 10.3) for the hd2600 and simply update the graphics cards driver to firegl v5600. this probably won´t give you the workstation options like 10 bit color and quad buffered stereo, but i guess most of us won´t be needing them anyway.

for now i don´t have any time to do that. in 2 or 3 weeks time i could take a closer look into that.

Won't there be some kind of tutorial? Will these mods work on windows7? Is there any improvement in D3D? Or is this just for OpenGL stuff?

I've read this thread few times in the past but I just don't "live" with this so I'm again kinda out of picture

Hi i read that line above

    "i have modded the new ati driver 8.72 ( 09/04/2010) for win7 x 64. ( sorry, no other os this time, since i only have win7 x64 installed). "

win 7 x64 is just great by me, i really would appreciate a link, as my 8510p looks like it cant do any 3d work without seriously grinding the system to its knees.

Strangely the 8510w (nvidia) worked a charm, but blew up !!!

I'm really hoping and needing these, thank you for all your efforts in making them, I hope they work for me.

Dont mind if its a link on here or a pm (how to do it on here?) just have to get this operational.

    Many many thanks again.

The other solution would be to extract the vbios using ADDCCV3 from the bios, patch the PCI ID from HD2600 to 5600 as noted below:

add a checksum byte to the vbios, then study where those patches bytes correspond in the compressed bios to make the same change and flash to the system. Can even increase the stock clocks as shown. Then the 5600 driver would work out of the box without any INF mods required.

To ensure a problem-free flash just decompress the modded bios with ADDCCV3 and evaluate that it's made the changes as required. Ensure the vbios is checksum corrected. Worst case scenario there's always the emergency recovery process.

Maybe a 8510P owner can pioneer a Ultimate 8510P bios for the community similar to the 2510P modded bios? The desirable features being:

    1. SLIC21
    2. no-whitelist: skip wwan/wifi whitelist
    3. dualIDA cpu overclock
    4. FireGL 5600 deviceID
    5. overclocked vbios timings
    6. quiet fan (??)
    7. IDE channel mod to allow 2nd drive caddy with HDD at full speed (study 2510P bios as it doesn't have this issue)

Items 1-3 can already be made with ease by merging the dualIDA modded bios is in my sig and the SLIC21+no-whitelist linked from that link.

    Woo,

Looks like to much for me... I'm looking that method anyway.

But why it's working on XP 64 and not on my XP 32? I'm wrong with something but what?

Hi. Can you write small guide for this operation ?

    I can't found "000001bch: 02 10 81 95" in "rom.bin" or "09_VIDE_000C0000_Rom.dec" . I use ADDCCV3 and HxD.

Could that also be used to whitelist other graphic cards? FX770, HD3650 or even newer ones.

    hi everybody,
i've just installed win 7 x64 and now a lot of opengl based software works very bad.
on xp i had the firegl v5600 soft mod drivers and everything was working perfectly, but now i don't have found modded drivers for win 7 or a tutorial for modding ati drivers by myself.
i've read a lot of things about installing modded drivers on win 7 x64 but i've not understood which is the right method..
please, could someone send me the lastest drivers dl link and tell me how to install them?

    thank u very much, really!!
