That is what we want! now shoko needs to find the way of getting us a simple quide how to change gfx id on ours HD2600...
-
-
@all - I don't know if I just got lucky or if its this simple but all I did was add my subsys id (PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9581&SUBSYS_42CD1462) to the INF file ("ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5600" = ati2mtag_M76, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9581&SUBSYS_XXXXXXXX) then let the installer do the rest - My display adapter is now recognized as a ATI Mobility FireGL V5600 (same core id as Mobility HD 2600). I used Mobility Modder.NET to initially add the INF Mobility id files.
System: MSI GX710 TL-64 (AMD baby)
Ram: 3GB DDR2
HD: Hitachi Travelstar 200GB, 7200rpm, 16MB
Graphics: ATI Mobility HD 2600, 512MB
FireGL drivers: 8.44
OS: XP Pro x32
I want to thank all who contributed to this thread which helped me figure this out. Later... -
1. of course if you change the change the "namefield" of the display-adapter that will be recognized for the id ( 9581) your card will be recognized as what is written in "name", you even can call your card every name you can imagine. try it, how about calling it "bad mojo" ? see what adapter will be installed
if you have not used a driver with a proper patched atim2tag.sys you will get no performance gain. you should download the specviewperf benchmark..... and you will see that this procedure does not work at all.
giving your card a different name will not make it use pro opengl.dll´s. you have to force it, by patching atim2tag.sys.
and for the driver part..... the ati2mtag_RV630 GL section has to be used to install the opengl pro settings.
compare this part of RV630GL :
Code:[ati2mtag_RV630GL] CopyFiles=ati2mtag.Miniport, ati2mtag.Display, ati2mtag.ORCA, ati2mtag.ORCAWow64OpenGL, Uninstall.CopyFiles, ati2mtag.OGL, ati2mtag.OD;, DVCR.CopyCodec AddReg=Uninstall.AddReg UninstallFiles=Uninstall.CopyFiles UninstallReg=Uninstall.AddReg CleanFiles=ati2mtag.Miniport, ati2mtag.Display, ati2mtag.ORCA, ati2mtag.ORCAWow64OpenGL, ati2mtag.OGL, ati2mtag.OD CleanReg=ati2mtag_SoftwareDeviceSettings, ati2mtag_RV630_SoftwareDeviceSettings, atiorcaWS_OpenGLSoftwareSettings, ati2mtag_Mobile_SoftwareDeviceSettings, ati2mtag_MobileLargeDesktopSettings CleanService=ati2mtag_RemoveService [ati2mtag_RV630GL.SoftwareSettings] AddReg = ati2mtag_SoftwareDeviceSettings AddReg = ati2mtag_RV630_SoftwareDeviceSettings AddReg = ati2mtag_FGL_SoftwareDeviceSettings DelReg = ati2mtag_RemoveDeviceSettings DelReg = atiorcaWSOnly_OpenGLSoftwareSettings AddReg = atiorcaWSOnly_OpenGLSoftwareSettings AddReg = ati2mtag_FGL_LargeDesktopSettings

you will sure find some differences between the two installation settings. i have left out the software settings part, cause the that would be be too much for this thread.
and i repeat it again :
the most essential part is the proper patched atim2tag.sys !!!!!!!!
try it and run specviewperf10. i guarantee you, you will be quite dissappointed by the results..... -
Schoko, I think I know why it worked for him. He actually didnt mention anything about performance but REALVIEW. So it would just mean that because the name of the card is 'FireGL V5600 (schoko)' RealView would be disabled in SW. Looks like SW is quite stupid and it just recognize cards by names and enables/disables functions according to this. Would you be able to create a driver with a standard name for v5600 but with your sys file?
If you have no time, PM me with some instructions and I can take it over from you. -
well, just take a look at the driver. at xp 64 there is a file called CA_53846.inf. that is the driver.inf. you should find it in ....\fireglxp....\driver\XP...\, there is a subfolder ( for xp64 it is called XP_6A.inf).
just open the inf-file with the notepad and search for the string with my name. should be right at the beginning of the inf. edit the name as you wish.
save and install the driver again. -
How about updating the DirectX files? Lets say I would like to have the whole driver based on the latest Catalyst drivers?
-
Ok.Seems like it worked
Before Drivers installation RealView was disabled (greyed out) after the installation I was able to turn it on.
Will try with the SW08 SP3. -
hmm well, looks like the realview feature does not like my name then.
about the directx thing...
forget about using ati2dvag.dll and ati3duag.dll from a newer catalyst with the old ati2matg.sys. i tried that already and my system does not like the new files working with the rest of my old 8.391 driver.
one thing i did though was exchanging the atioglx2.dll. the file i used is from firegl 8.44 and i just replaced the file in Windows\SysWOW64 folder. gave me the opengl performance of the 8.44 driver. for those that are using the xp32 driver ... that one is already 8.44.
maybe it will work when a new firegl-driver is released by ati. -
Hahaha!!
I can't believe it!!!
Stupid Stupid Stupid SolidWorks! It's so stupid it is brilliant..
I mean what are the odds that this situation would come to be inthe first place? I guess the SW team didn't bother to enter all the different IDs, so they simply just went by the names.
Here I am reading forums on how to alter bios-images and/or patching core parts of SW when it was this easy all the time!!
Great.
I'll try what you said, schoko, and report results during the week. -
That is still to be confirmed. Please dont get overexcited
Although I have seen the icon not greyed out it, I think I didnt install the feature to fully use it. So I will report tmrw. Its a bit late now -
Alright lads!
NEWS NEWS NEWS!
EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA
RealView + Photoworks confirmed to be working on Schoko's driver for XP 32bit with changed name to FireGL V5600[checked with Solidowrks 2008 SP0]
Ive included pics as a proof
The only thing that now bothers me a little bit is that card only uses its 256MB of built memory. I didn install Control Panel or anything else, just the driver so far. -
well, my bad then. as i do not use SW , i never thought of such a stupid driver name check...
typically this is done by checking for the cards device id.
anyway, congrats. you are a happy customer of a workstation notebook now. -
This seems to save me around $400 differnece than buying the 8510w
-
Personally, the high-res LCD was the dealbreaker for me on the 8510w. Good to know I have the same power (with Schoko-drivers) and functions (RealView) with the 8510p.
I got my 8510 through a deal HP has with norwegian universities, so the difference was less than £100 was still a bargain, I recon, at £860.
Never been happier with a purchase!!
I can confirm that SW 2007 SP2.2 works with the .inf-hack. However be sure to spell exactly "FireGL V5600" or any other FireGL-model.. If you like, you could write "FireGL V7600" for that matter.. Wouldn't help performance though.
Cheers to Destiny and Schoko! Great work. Now all I need is to get my hands on SW 2008 SP3.1 and a FireGL driver based on 8.44 from HP, then I can get to compare realworld performance of Vista 64 with XP..
BTW: Check out this link to benchmarks of the previous generation of FireGL-cards tested on a 2.9GHz Core2Duo Workstation (not mobility)
http://ati.amd.com/products/workstation/benchmarks2.html
Looks like we've got ourselves a potent package here! -
I only know of SW 08 as late as SP3.0 not 3.1?
-
SP3.0 should be (it is on paper) compatible, but you have to install 2008 SP0 (which btw is NOT compatible with Vista 64) first and then upgrade to SP3.0.. The catch is that SW2008 SP0 will not install on Vista 64..
So then SW made the 2008 SP3.1 package for Vista64 users/customers.
It is possible to DL 2008 SP3.1 from SW (if you're a registered user and owns a valid licence) or usenet. I have yet to see it for DL elsewhere but I recon there will be a torrent for it soon.
The only hitch now is that the only driver approved by SW for use on Vista64 is the 8.44-based FireGL driver. I guess we'll just have to wait for HP to release it so we can patch it. After all it would be BAD business to sell a workstation PC (8510w) with Vista64 without proper driver support for one of the most popular CAD applications...
So we play the waiting game... -
Im after schoko's driver for Vista 32 bit now to compare performance in SpecViewPerf.
-
Hello Schoko,
You gave me your fireGL driver on 01-31-08 (see page 9). Is there a new version which corresponds to the latest ATI drivers for win XP Pro 32?
I renamed the driver "FireGL v5600 (Schoko)" to "Fire GL v5600" as written above. It seems to work well with SW 2007 SP3.1 . My BIOS version is F.0F (02/05/2008).
I 'll write here if I notice any problem.
Thanks to you and all other who discovered how to rename the driver in order to have Real 3D view in SW.
Edit : with the FireGL (Schoko) driver, I' got horrible gray and white horizontal lines which appeared in place of wallpaper. It seems to be here since I've used Google Earth ? Anyone has same problem ? -
Any try with vista schoko?
One more question for all people, could you guys overclock graphic card with the schoko drivers in XP 64?
Thank you. -
update :
i just modified the patchscript for xp 64 for ati´s new firegl driver 8.453.1. seems like there is a little more performance with these drivers, and the so called selection lag in maya seems to be adressed now, finally.
i could upload the new driver in the next days. maybe i´ll take the time to sit down and modify the xp 32 driver also, but i am not ot confident that i´ll find the time to do that also.
about vista : no, i have no news, and i do not have the time to do this. if you get lucky, maybe the chinese guys that are also knowledged in modifying ati drivers will do this trick. but i will most likely not do that. -
BTW, when we are talking about XPx64. How is your 8510p doing on it? Have you tried any games etc? what about most commonly software you use?
-
well, my hp 8510p is doing very well with xp 64. never had any serious problems. i encountered a bad programmed wifi driver. did not realizes that in the first place, until a member of this forum brought up a common issue of todays drivers. if they are badly programmed, the dcp latency is spiking way too high. in the case of the specific driver it was around 30 times too high ( microsoft says it should be somewhere between 80 and 100 for winxp, i had more than 3000ms)
well i do not game that much. the only game i played was crysis, on both xp 32 and xp 64, and there was no mentionable difference between these two, though i think the graphics of the game actually looks a little better with xp64, but i can´t tell for sure.
since i don´t game, i actually do work with my laptop, using maya, rhino, maxwell render, vray, complete adobe cs3, doing some java funstuff with processing...and so on.
never had a bluescreen with this xp64 and still i´m very happy that i did choose xp64. -
did you get it from HP?? and regarding software you use:
what rhino version works on xp64?
is maxwell stable?
and what about cs3?
Im planning to have dual booting x64 machine now, with all necessary processing power with modded HD2600 into FireGL 5600 under XP for CAD/graphics software, and use Vista for DX10 games and general usage.
I somehow still want to use Vista, I quite like it. The only thing that is making me keep it is not being able to use DX10 features or not having enough graphic performance under XP for games due to the modded driver. -
well, every app i have used so far is stable. no problems so far, and the 32 bit emulation is actually not slower than an real 32 bit OS. so no problems here.
i´m just working on the patchscript for 32 bit xp. the new 8.453 driver is based on a new catalyst, and it will deliver the same performance as with normal radeon drivers. just benched with 3dmark06 and got a nice score of around 3400 points with stock clocks. -
Nice
What was the latest XP64 driver you did??
-
the latest driver i made a patchscript for was the latest one that ati released- 8.453.1 ( release date- 1.may.2008) - like i mentioned above.
just finished the work on the xp32 driver, and now i will take a closer look at the CCC for winxp64. -
Ah, Ok. I thought the latest X64 was a earlier release.
-
Shocko , a question about xp-64 . where did you get all the drivers , as i looked on HP site and they don't list 8510-p as supported with xp-64 ?
do i just go out and buy xp pro-64 and install and use the hardware manufacturers drivers and not hp ?
And i'm back to hd 2600 , had to redo dard drive and i lost the fire gl drivers :-( . somehow everything got erased and had not backed up all the files
thanks . -
the hp 8510p has got a brother ( or a sister ?
), the 8510w. the hardware is quite the same, and so are the drivers. you will find all the drivers you need because the 8510w is certified for xp 64.
-
If you actually have a better look into folders with drivers, you would see that most of them have folder called x64 inside, containing drivers for 64 bit
-
it is served....
just uploaded the patched 8.453.1 driver for windows xp 64.
this time i did play around a little bit with the installation procedure also. there is no need for using the have disk method for this driver.
You can use ati´s setup.exe now.
the package contains the Display Driver, CCC and the Hd Audio Driver driver
have fun with this one -
another dinner is served....
just uploaded the patched xp 32 bit driver ( 8.453.1). have not tested it if the performance is available, but maybe someone of you could do that.
Destiny ? like to try this one ?
are you still on xp 32 or is it 64 bit xp for you now ? -
At the momement Im in the middle of going from XP32 bit /already gone/ and Vista 32 bit to Vista 64 bit on my new hard drive. I havent got the copy of XP64 yet, as HP doesnt want to provide one... So, no go for me at the moment. I recently found out that I might have some problems with games on x64 so I need to see really...
-
Hi, schoko, can you send me the link for download this? (x64)
Thank you, for the install method too. -
send you a pm.
please report back if everything is fine with your firegl -
OK, I'll report. Send a PM too.
Thank you. -
can you send the new here ? thanks lost the last set after sys crash rebuild, miss the firegl 5600
that would be new 32 bit -
Schoko, Can I have the XP 64 bit driver please
-
send pm´s to the two of you.
@ destiny
is it xp64 then for you ?
// edit
btw, the solidworks realview issue should not happen with this driver. the card that will be installed is called FireGL v5600. i guess solidworks will recognize that one. -
got it ! thanks again ! do i follow the old install directions ? and one last question , does this work on the desktop hd 2600 ? i also have my sons desktop with that card .
thanks -
hi!Schoko, i send a pm to you,Can I have the XP 32 bit driver please !thanks so much!!
-
hey jerry,
sorry, but the driver does only work for graphics cards with the device id 9581, namely the hd2600 mobility. no other card carries this device id.
about installing, well the installer is working now, you can use that one. just make sure you have the old drivers and catalyst center uninstalled properly, and you are good to go. -
i have been reicived the link-thanks again! !!!
-
you´re welcome.
please do also report back if this worked for or not. you can use the ati setup to install the card. but you should uninstall the old driver and catalyst control center before installing the new patched driver. -
this is great ! another bonus is the added workstation in ccc , enable 10 bit pixel format , i think i get better detail on my mri views , at least the pictures seem to be sharper showing more detail , and they are snappier .
install went well , no problems , thanks again . I wish there were something i could do to repay you !
I tried to dl that sec veiw , servers were busy , could not get it :-(i'll try for some other benchmarks . -
yep, you´re mri pictures should look better..
thats what the 10 bit pixel format is meant to be for.
btw, are you working as a doctor ?
//edit
well, if you want to show your appreciation i have to say i would not take any money. play around with your new toy, and if you still like to repay me, you could donate a little amount of money to a human rights organisation or a world food program..... as long as it´s not for the NRA...
i´d appreciate that more than anything else you could do for me.
best -
not a Dr , a patient that has has over 30 mri . I get copies of all mri , in fact when I visit Dr i bring my laptop , make copies and it has better resolution than the monitor at the Doctors office , now even better !
This laptop just gets better and better ! Next is 64 bit , now if i understand this motherboard chipset can support 8 gb of memory , right ? That would extend the useful life of this laptop as memory needs are always increasing and 8 gb is a good amount.
again thanks ! -
Yep. Your 64 bit Vista business would support up to 128GB but the mobo is a limit now. No more than 8GB, which should be plenty for another 3 years... until then most of people would get a new notebook rather than upgrade the memory.
-
Well, like I said I report that the driver for xp 64 bits, works like a charm.
I installed with the setup.exe, without any problem.
Thank you Schoko, you are the man.
Please keep in Windows Vista 64. Would be great...
