The firmware update won't work because HP modified the p/n somehow (with 'HP' in the embedded P/N) so the firmware tool will not recognize it as an intel drive![]()
Not sure about the toolbox on gen1 drives, I know that the TRIM won't work on gen 1 but not sure about the other features.... With gen 2's it just loads with an .exe installer like most apps, nothing special was needed. Not sure what version I have installed (there was only 1 option 2 months ago) since my envy's in for de-bricking...

Is it safe to install the new BIOS listed at the front of this page? Messing with BIOS settings always scare me...is it worth it?
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Not the ones posted for F. 1B A or F. 24 A. Too many failed flashes with those revisions. I recommend to stick with F. 18 A or the default currently on your system until the next revision. -
Thanks i'll wait then
-
f24 works fine for me, f18 gave me a black screen actually.
-
Updates to the first post.
Note that there is a new IDT High Definition Audio driver originating from Microsoft Update; installation must be done using the Update Driver wizard within Device Manager.
04/26/2010
- Updated MediaSmart SmartMenu to version 2.1.1.14 (2.10 D) for Windows Vista.
- Updated MediaSmart Webcam to version 3.1.3521 (3.1 C2) for Windows 7 (thanks lovegl).
04/27/2010
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver to version 6.10.6276.0.
-
Either i'm installing it wrong, or the new audio codec driver does not work. (I'm probably installing it wrong)
How do you use the device update wizard? I select to find the driver on my hard drive and I go to the folder where I downloaded the codec and it shows nothing as being there? -
You have to extract the .cab file then do regular installation.
-
Any noticable improvements worth updating for ? Did it leave all your audio settings unchanged ?
-
Dell recently posted an IDT driver update. I wonder if their package has the same HWIDs as the HP distro and/or the Microsoft .cab
-
I haven't installed that version yet, so I cant comment. To be honest with you im skeptical to update any thing on the ENVY anymore coming from HP. After seeing all the crashes and bricking people are having, Id rather stick with a working laptop. Dont fix unless broken.
-
I have recurring issues with the "audio"/f11 key. It periodically stops working to mute the audio, but a driver reinstall from the swsetup folder fixes this. However, the little "mute light" hasn't worked correctly since the very first driver install after the OS. Sometimes after the driver is reinstalled, the light is stuck "on", sometimes "off", but it never changes even when the button is working to change the mute status.
Any ideas? Why does the button stop working every week or two, and why does the light never work right? -
@Daraj
I hear you on that thought
As I'm typing this from my 5 year old Dell e1705 / 9400
-
I am hearing reports that the current IDT audio driver I posted isn't working properly for most notebooks (at least from the HP notebook driver threads, it doesn't seem to be working). I'll give it a go and I'll see what's going on.
The IDT audio drivers provided by Dell are not compatible with the IDT audio devices found in HP notebooks. It is because the subsys IDs are different between OEMs, thus preventing cross-OEM and generic product support. -
Do you know if they are de-bricking your system only? or they are replacing the mobo? I hope its just a software re flash fix.
-
They assured me they would only be reflashing the existing mobo and not touching anything else, I even made a specific note to not touch anything else on the 'repair report' form and taped it right to the top of the computer.... We'll see *fingers crossed*
-
Take that with a grain of salt.
-
yep, they actually replaced my motherboard when I sent it bricked. At least that's what their note on the box said.
-
I really didn't want to hear that
My GPU is one of the most stable ones for OCing that have been reported, if they swap mobos I will be very pissed...
-
maybe you will be getting better numbers. Anything is better than Black screen problem
-
It's not true that they replace your motherboard. I've sent my laptop back for BIOS repair and although it noted that the motherboard was repaired I dont think they actually replaced it.
If they did replace my motherboard I would've had to reinstall Windows again but I didnt have to. Everything started up as it was before. As some of you may know, swapping motherboards would result in not bootable Windows. -
I have a little update for everyone: I removed the new IDT audio device driver from the first post -- I can't seem to install this new version either using recommended methods. Version 6269 is now the current release once again.
-
Right. IT s going to have a different serial number than the one stored in windows from the older model. As a result, you will get a MAC address error.
-
10.4 official release.
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver -
seems like lots of envy 15 were dead because of the newest bios ?
I asked for a exchange already.. -
Did yours get bricked also?
-
I installed the F.24A BIOS last nite beside my better judgement and came out with NO issues. That was a large gamble but it seems that several folks here with i7-Quads installed without problems.
It seems to run cooler but maybe a figment of my imagination. -
NOTE TO ALL: HP has removed all BIOS updates from the Envy 15t 1100 & 1000 CTO support / drivers pages.
I had explained about the recent plague of Envy's getting bricked with the F .24 BIOS update to a senior case manager yesterday and it appears someone actually listened for a change. -
Hummm, roomy has been hogging mine so I know nothings gotten updated in a while. As far as I know I'm still at F18. Glad now I was out of the loop for a bit. Has there been any word on what the issue is, besides bricking peoples babies, or when a fix might be.
-
Mine is one that got bricked
I'll post what BIOS they send it back with....looks like a 5/3 return date right now.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
It is going to be F. 18 A. When my unit was sent back, it reverted to F. 18 A. Same thing to yours most likely. However, my replacement unit might get F. 24 A. -
This has now been updated on the original post; all BIOS release links have been removed. When a new BIOS release is out, it will be posted.
-
Thanks for managing this thread, it is great. BTW, Microsoft Update provided the new IDT driver yesterday, but it won't install without failure through that method either...
-
i updated from catalyst 10.1 to 10.3 with hope of using the avivo video converter, but i see no evidence of it being installed (with either version). am i missing something? does 10.4 have it included?
-
what's the deal with the video card drivers posted here? it's 8.70 whereas the older one that came out in march is 8.712....
i'm using the older one for now... -
its actually 8.723
Edit: I have noticed higher temps after installing this 10.4. Can anyone confirm or deny?? I'm idling at 46C now. that's around 2 degrees higher than 10;3 driver -
ihaveabu was referring to the fact that the current release has an older driver version and date than the ATI Catalyst Mobility 10.3 driver package, which is now listed as a previous release. I did this because the Catalyst Mobility 10.3 driver and software components were not working perfectly and were not feature-complete for the Envys.
Because of this, I am trying to decide whether I should post up the Catalyst Mobility 10.4 links. What do you guys think I should do?
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
That is high for the GPU in general. I am at 36C Idle on 10.3. -
Depends upon your room temp as well; it idles at 47C for me with age old driver shipped with Gen1 Envy.
-
I also noticed when I get close to the laptop i.e blocking the front air intakes the temps rise, whereas when I keep a good distance from the laptop thus allowing more air to enter the front vents and circulate, the temps are much better.
-
You are right. The ATI package is not complete. At least the HDMI driver is not included. So I am sticking to HP packages. I believe their latest is 8.701 which is the one you have listed.
-
Forget about it
-
HP has now posted a new BIOS F.26A.
-
No BIOS? I am in need of a new one!! The F19 is terrible...i'd rather stick to F.07A instead.
larsv, link for F.26A?
And hello for those who know me.
-
Is this new BIOS safe to install? I'm scared after hearing of people bricking their ENVY's...
-
Just installed the F.26A on my Envy, no problem, it runs fine.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I am not going to flash F. 26 A unless there are more success reports.
-
Those who flashed it, can you restart your computer to see if it goes swell?
-
It's mind boggling that they can't release a basic flasher that could be run without booting Windows. It's just not safe to flash a BIOS from Windows, specially with all the anti-crapware/malware/defender/virus etc that runs in the background on many windows machines.
