    Very strange, that makes no sense. You would think that others would be posting something like this if it was happening on all machines with those BIOS. I personally have had issues with GPU-Z and prefer Everest for all system info, it will show you all the different GPU states and the preset clock settings, here is a screen of what shows for the f .24 BIOS GPU settings;

    everestgpuinfo.PNG

    Note: this is the 10.5 beta driver, and the highlighted 100/200 speeds are the minimum since there is no GPU load. Have you tried disabling the CCC power play feature to see if that makes a difference? It shows a state 8 in power play as 400/550 speeds maybe yours is using a non full performance mode for some reason ???

    can someone tell me why

    "It is strongly recommended that you remove all previous versions of the ATI Radeon graphics driver prior to installing the newest version."

    I have no problem with Nvidia driver, but I don't know too much about ATI's drivers

    It's a very good practice to remove previous versions of a driver. This ensures that unexpected conflicts and problems do not occur when you install a new version of the driver. This is especially true for ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers, since they do not include an updater or a built-in setup procedure that uninstalls or removes the previous versions.

    Other setup packages can detect and remove older versions of a driver if necessary, and then install the new version. In which case, a prior removal isn't really necessary. :)

    I have F.1A and no problem with games over several hours, even when the GPU is overclocked to the best of its abilities. Maybe there is some other factor? I reinstalled Win 7 to get rid of the HP stuff and used newer drivers.

    Not if it bricks the machine. Stay away from flashing BIOS until HP releases a flasher that works.

    Real quick question about bc2. I am using the previous drivers 10.3/f.26 bios(also happened with f.24) and the game stutters sometimes when I bring up the score board or the kit selection while in game. The fps drops from about 40 to about 5 for approximately 10-15 seconds. Does anyone have a similar problem.

    Are those the ones over at Stragg's? I was curious about em but had a cpl confussions.

    1. I wasn't sure if they worked/how to install on the laptop. Do I have to do any file edits and or what exact procedure for these. Can I just run the main file and it will install on its own or what tricks do I need to perform?

    2. Both my desktop and laptop I run x64 and the file name had me thinking it was only for x32 bit. Am I misreading the file name and its for both x32 & x64?

    Sounds strange...try these drivers, the 10.x beta release (compatible with ALL desktop and mobility cards). These fix my BC2 load times and give me a slight framerate boost (before the game epically crashes, but that's a separate issue)

    Hi,
    Firstly thanks for the all the drivers, I decided to do a clean install on my Envy since there were just so many craplets loaded with it and I've now even freed up more of my hard drive for another OS :)

    Anyone know what I can download to make the volume and mute buttons visuals come back? They work and everything but they lack the pop up graphics that used to happen automatically. Thanks...

    You might want to try the procedure that windstrings had posted over at http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-3-dv8-hdx16-hdx18-intel-103.html#post6241024 and see if this works on the Envy 15. I have not tried it, so please do it at your own risk. For reference, it is also copied below:

    Cheers for the suggestion Justin, I just gave it a try but had no such luck unfortunately. Obviously it's not the end of the world but it's a nice little tweak I'd really appreciate.

    And despite downloading and installing the patches for the mediasmart envy button, it refuses to work too after trying several times. I'm not too fussed about that though since I don't even use/want the programs associated with it :p

    Im assuming you installed HP quick lunch buttons app? IN both cases HP buttons are very intrusive and they can cause alot of problems especially when playing games and you happen to change the vol/resolution it will crash or minimize the game. It has been suggested in the other envy thread to use this program:

    I indeed did install the quick launch app but the graphics never came back. However now that you mention it I remember trying to watch a film once, boosting the volume and like you said, the screen un-maximises just to do it.
    Thanks a ton for the link though, I've installed the replacement and it's even better than the original. Thankyou!

    Just wondering something else, is there a way to assign the envy button (the wiggly line) with another use? As I mentioned earlier; the original uses for me were obsolete but it would be nice to use it for something else. Might be a bit of an odd question but no harm in asking...

    A user 'dawser' just reported that it worked perfectly with his gen 1 4830 and now he has WHQL and open CL support and was able to install ATI Stream SDK as well. This was after all his attempts to upgrade drivers from ATI (10.3, 10.4) failed. You should be able to post questions to him on the original owners lounge: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...5-owners-lounge-part-2-a-257.html#post6240240

    I just disabled all of my keys last night and it works like a charm, however there is a catch.

    when I have no window open, none of the keys do anything, which is nice.
    BUT, When I have Firefox already opened, if I hit the Print key (below internet), it still opens up the Print Properties for some reason. As well as when I hit the Internet button, while the internet is already opened, it brings that tab to my homepage.

    Oddly as well, when I hit the Internet button while playing Counter strike: source, it opens up the 'Change Teams' menu... which is keybinded to 'M' ingame.

    Very odd.
    I used the above mentioned thread to disable mine.

    Hi guys, I've been having a terrible time trying to update the video driver on my brand new generation 2 envy 15.

    I'm trying to do this because I've been having trouble running Bad Company 2... particle effects seem to tax me way more than anyone else with the same specs. It's unplayable.

    Anyways, when I try to install the latest driver on the first page of this thread (8.712.0.0) the driver installation runs, but afterwards gives me an error that says that I have not installed the correct ati driver for my hardware, and then windows jumps in and automatically reinstalls the driver that the laptop shipped with. I'm very frustrated and would appreciate any tips you guys can give.

    I also noticed some of you are running bc2 on the same laptop as I am, are you having the same problem with particle effects?

    Thanks :)

    edit: i'm not sure where a question like this should go - i'm crossposting it as a thread, sorry if it seems like spam.

    @Bibblord

    You need to uninstall all of the existing ATI drivers before re-installing the new one. Use the CCC install manager to uninstall 'all' and then I recommend using a free app called 'driver sweeper' HERE that gets rid of a ton of stuff still left behind. After you run both those but before restarting you need to go to device manager and make sure no other ATI drivers remain or they will reload when you restart. Then when you do restart you should be running the default Microsoft VGA driver since it is all that's left, now it's safe to load the new driver package (Hint: save it to desktop before you start this process)

    Thanks, but I just tried this and windows still reinstalls driver 8.670.5.1000 after I run the installer! It's impossible to stop it! I even turned off both automatic updates and ticked "no" on device installation settings, which I thought would stop it. This is so frustrating!

    edit: to recap - windows automatically reinstalls its default driver for the device, putting all the registry entries and other stuff back.

    Edit: before starting the below procedure you need to do the whole CCC install manager 'uninstall' and driver sweeper run again....

    OK, go to device manager > display adapters > driver tab > update driver > browse computer for driver software > check the 'include subfolders' box > let me pick from list .... > check ' show compatible hardware' -- this shows you a list of all the 5800 series drivers on your computer, start at the top and install it (click next after highlighting top of list) then go back to the 'driver tab' and choose to 'uninstall' > check the 'delete the driver software for this device' > ok -- do not restart if asked, repeat process with all 5800 drivers on the list until just the VGA driver is shown.

    Now restart and try running the new driver .exe package. (if it finds and loads the old driver again it must be the version stored in the SWsetup folder loaded by HP, you will need to find and delete the ATI driver and try again)

    If this does not work then try extracting the downloaded package into a folder then follow the above process to the 'select driver from list' option in device manager, then choose the 'have disc' option and browse to the folder you extracted the new driver package and install ( it should automatically load the correct driver) and then you will have to go back and manually install the rest of the CCC package through the CCC install manager.

    thanks, I managed to get the driver to install before I read this because windows encountered a seemingly random error while reinstalling its driver and basically gave up (edit: perhaps because I had tried so many times that i deleted all of its stock drivers). but in case I need to mess with it again I have this page bookmarked. Thanks SO MUCH for your help!

    I can only see there is a "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/5 Series SATA RAID Controller" but not something with the word "AHCI" in the device manager, could anyone please confirm it?

    p.s. i have already installed the intel rapid storage and i am running one 320GB hard disk.

    As I mentioned in the PM to you: Yes, you should be running in AHCI mode. You can open up the Intel Rapid Storage Technology utility and if it says that your system is configured to enable advanced SATA features, then AHCI is enabled.

    @HumbleBy (and everyone else)

    I just updated the 6200 wireless driver and it appears there is a new option available to select the 'transmit power' via the 'advanced' tab in device manager. As far as I can tell the default setting is the 'highest' power, it appears that setting remains set even on battery power with the power plan settings set to 'maximum power savings'. I have no idea how much of an impact (if any) this will have on battery life, I have set mine to 'medium' transmit power and so far it appears to have a very stable connection on my home network....

    Also as reported above; the new synaptics driver does not fix the 'double tap' to enable feature...Grrrr....

    @JJB:

    Hm, i believe i've had that option all the time, also with older drivers, but i am not 100% certain. But i have changed the setting to "medium" to see what results i'll get.
    Unless my memory fails me, wasn't the enable/disable feature functional in the previous release of the touchpad driver? (15.0.13.0). I seem to remember it working but the cursor on my computer was jumping all over the place, when using the touchpad for simple drag-and-move tasks so i had to revert back to an even older version. Now, why would they disable this feature in the new release?

    I was using the 15.0.09 version and it did not work when trying to re-enable the touchpad. This one seems to have the same problem.

    The new version actually installed 3 different drivers automatically. Go to device mng > update driver > browse computer > pick from list -- This will show you all the drivers installed on the computer, I have three 15.0.13 drivers, the top one has the 'tap to disable' feature but does not work to re-enable and it has no 'tap zone' features. The 2nd on the list has no tap to disable feature but does have the 'tap zone' features, I am using this one right now but just had the 2 finger scroll stop working and had to restart to get it working again...Grrrr.

    I will try the 3rd option on the list later and report what I find, if it has issues I will just revert back to the .09 version which workerd perfectly except I could not disable the touchpad which for me was not a big deal....

    PS; My last 6200 driver did not have any 'transmit power' option that I was aware of...

    I installed the latest touchpad drivers, confirmed the 15.0.13.3 and testing the touchpad, it seems equally responsive as the 15.0.13.0 and on/off functionalities are fully enabled with mine. Testing and it does work.

    Thanks for the info JJB. I did as you described and found 4 different drivers for this version of the driver. I have just tried all 4 and found that the disable/enable feature does not work with any of them.

    EDIT: Serg, could you possibly post your touchpad ID number (mine is ´SYN1E24´)
    and do you have the i5 or i7 version?

    Well with the new driver I was hopeing they fixed the double tap to enable/disable but it didn't.... What is the point to that feature if hp can not get it to function correctly

    Yes, we can all disable with the button. But in the upper left corner of the actual touchpad you can double tap to disable it and the light comes on. The problem is you can't double tap it again to enable it back.

    You seem to be using a much older version of the driver, which is why it works. My touchpad also worked when i used that driver, but since then they have optimized the 2-finger-scroll among other things, which means that going back is not an option unless the disable/enable feature is more important to you.

    Well I just got home and opened my computer which wakes it from sleep mode and NO 2 FINGER SCROLL Grrrrrrrr, had to restart to get it to work again.

    You people having issues with the re-enable feature (which I am) may want to check if the 2 finger scroll works after waking the machine from sleep....

    Think I am going to try to uninstall all drivers and do a clean install of this new one, maybe some sort of conflict??....

    FYI; my device ID is: SYN1E24 (which is listed in the CVA)
