Let me check right now for you. I often play my games with an OC so.

EDIT: Checked and it spikes at 500 MHz for me when I ran Empire: Total War.

I will keep checking about this when I have more time, but so far the clocks remain the same but for some odd reason GPU-Z reads the default clocks for core much lower than before.

EDIT: I added GPU-Z's stats for F.18 and F.19. The one on the right was from a screenshot I made when I had F.18. The one on the left is F.19.

New BIOS release once again that (again) updates the ATI Radeon VBIOS -- this is the third BIOS release in a week!!! Also, HP has finally posted the ATI Mobility Radeon 5830 graphics driver, thus completing support for the Envy 15-11xx refresh. :)

Better late than never, but nonetheless great job HP! :D

    03/06/2010
    • Updated BIOS to version F.19 A.
    • Renamed "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830" to "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 / 5830."
    • Updated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 / 5830 driver to version 8.670.5.1000.

Running F .19 and so far no problems. Looks like about 50 point gain on 3Dmark06 to 10,273 at same OC settings. Sreen shot in link in my signature.

P.S. this is with 10.3 drivers

Looks like this 19 bios creates some display problems. When the system boots with an external display connected, the laptop screen remains blank, and there is no way to wake it up, even if you disconnect the external monitor, or mess with the "F4" key. I have to shutdown, disconnect the monitor, then power up.

My screen remained blank even after shutting down and disconnecting monitor, the notebook couldn't detect the 15" display at all. I reflashed to f17 and its fine again. will not be using f18.

    Hello all,

Is the new ATI Mobility Radeon HD driver version 8.670.5.100 listed in this thread compatible with the first gen 4830 card?

. . . when I look directly at the HP site with my product number, it does not list the new driver? . . . .

Has anybody tried the new drive on a 4830/first gen machine?

    Thanks,
    N123

Well since HP says its designed intentionally to throttle on battery I don't honestly expect any sort of fix/change out of HP on the matter, sad to say. I know some were experimenting with other sw to try and get around the throttle matter but , having not tried myself, I couldn't answer as to their success or failure. Hopefully someone else can say more.

EDIT: Is there a way to backup our current bios before we upgrade? I was considering trying f19 but since my Envy says it came with f18 not 18A wasn't sure its the same bios as mine.

Yes, this new driver works with 4830 cards. The INF shows that both the 4830 and 5830 cards are supported in this driver.

Anyone else have problems with Windows Media Center? I don't know where this problem stems from, but I can't get Media Center to start any more. The strange thing is that Media Player works just fine. I am using W7 pro and 10.3 drivers...when i try to start it says "media center has stopped working". I have tried some fixes with no luck. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

I switched back to F.18. Congrats on the gain in 3DMarks06 but the stability of overclocking during actual gaming has decreased in F.19 than F.18. On 575/1100 and playing Dragon Age under 720p all max with no AA with 1.02a patch yields occasional freezes, which in F.18 it never did at all.

Actually, can anyone here help me out with a driver related problem?
    I have an Envy 15 1060ea, i7-720qm, 4gb, 4830 etc.
I burnt off the recovery disks because i wanted to install my own version of windows 7 ultimate.
I did so, installed all the necessary drivers and avast anti-virus.

The problem i face is that if i install ANYTHING other than the ati drivers supplied by HP my laptop BSOD's on boot.
I have tried the 10.3 and the 10.2 from strags.com. Even the 9.9 beta from ati's website doesn't work.

I want to overclock the card a bit and get the full slew of options available, since the CCC that comes with the HP drivers is gimped.
    any ideas?

Not every Envy is built the same, kinda like the Nissan GT-R R35 heh. Some people's Envys doesn't like overclocking at all, while others over excel in their figures. It is really by the luck of the draw if your piece of silicon is a good one or not to great one. I know that the gains for the 5830 excels at the memory bandwidth boost over the core figures, even though my limitations is on my core by the looks.

Whats been weird for me is I have more problems with Mark06 locking up on an OC than running Vantage or Heaven, which I'd expect to be the more demanding.

    • Updated HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection driver to version 4.0.6.1 (thanks Axel Foley).

For Windows 7 users: I recommend installing the most recent Application Compatibility Update that Microsoft had posted. Apparently it enables additional application functionality for HP MediaSmart. You can find the update from Microsoft Update or you can manually download the update using the links below.

First, thanks for the drivers I just reinstalled my envy G2 and they worked perfectly.

One question, i can use my volume keys to increase/decrease my sound but i dont have the bar that was previously displayed in the screen.

How can i add this bar? I installed all drivers except the HP MediaSmart (i tried the start menu but it doesnt add the bar)

    Hi everyone.

I read that some of you have made a "Clean Install" of Windows 7 on it's HP Envy 15.

When I try to instal windows 7 from the DVD, it says I haven't the required drivers for the storage, and wont show me the hard disk (because of the lack of drivers)

I tried to find the drivers for the IM55 chipset, but doesn't works.

    Am I doing somehing wrong?

    Thanks to everyone in advance.

Ok, I found the solution (what I was doing wrong).

The incomptaibility comes from the USB 3.0 controller, not the SATA controller. If you conect the optical drive to the eSATA/USB 2.0 port, the installation goes perfectly.

It happens in the 1150 model (and I guess with all models with USB 3.0)

Thanks everyone and I hope this post could be useful for others.

Sorry for not responding sooner but yes, you have to use the combo port. Its because the other 2 ports are USB 3.0 and the drivers were not part of the origonal Win7. Someone posted a way to install the USB 3.0 drivers so you could use the ports but seems like too much trouble.

My fault, brat. I was a bit desesperate so I asked before thinking (And before reading thoroughly the error message).

Now I have a clean install of Windows 7, all driver installation went OK, but I can't find the HP Wireless Assistant, the one which lets you tunr off the bluetooth radio independently of the WIFI.

Maybe comes with the HP Quick Launch Buttons controller?

I take the oportunity to thank all of you for this really useful thread.

Wireless assistant is in the SWsetup folder; the WLASST folder.

On my clean Win7 pro install windows created a bluetooth icon in the taskbar 'hidden icon' area (the little up arrow by the flag) which allows me to turn the BT on or off, so i did not load the wireless assistant app as it is just another piece of bloat from HP, IMO.

On mine I leave BT off and the icon appears in the up arrow popup 'box' with red logo on blue backround, I just right click the icon and it gives the option to turn BT on, when I do that the icon moves to the taskbar with white logo on blue backround, right cllick this one and several options popup.

If you mean the keyboard button next to F12, Yes.

Device manager shows I have 'HP integrated bluetooth module 2.1.....' Driver is Broadcom 6.2.0.9000

Below that there is also a Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator with driver 6.1.7600.16385

If that make a difference for you guys.

PS: As I have stated before, almost all of the HP featues that do basic OS tasks are simply cosmetic overwrites of the standard windows features that come with the OS, all they do is slow things down. I just tested the 'factory fresh' machine I am returning and it appears that HP wireless assistant adds 3-4 seconds extra to logon to my wifi compared to my clean install which logs on fully about 2 seconds after the signal strength bars show on the taskbar.

Essential System Updates consists of Microsoft Windows patches that were packaged together by HP. Most of the time, the patches that are included in these packages are NOT publicly available from Microsoft Update. However, these patches will be included in the next service pack when it becomes available.

There should be a list of updates somewhere on HP's website, or in the driver documentation (if there is one)...

If you mean the Instant On Solution thing, you'll find it in the SWsetup folder that came on your original machine configuration. If you didn't back that up it is on the recovery discs you should have created. I deleted it from my backups, it is useless to me since it does not work with SSD's.

IMO it is a worthless program anyway. On my original i7 envy it just slowed down normal startup and only saved like 10 seconds to get online, had limited functions and no battery life savings.

It might be me, but I think the F18 firmware is better than this new F19A. I noticed the fan runs more often on F19 than on F18.
