I've noticed the Intel HD Graphics Driver v9.17.10.2875 greatly slows down my disk performance. I have an OCZ Vertex 4 256GB drive that normally has a Windows Experience Index score of 7.9. Now it's 7.1. Also, my Passmark benchmark score dropped significantly (vs my best) due entirely to the disk performance (attached pic).
I've experienced this before an downgraded back to OEM to fix the problem.
Edit: downgrading back didn't fix the problem. I had to do a system restore.Attached Files:

when installing the AMD driver my screen went black and I had to restore windows
I think we have to wait till the official drivers are released -
Before you can use those instructions, you need to first completely remove existing GPU drivers (Intel and AMD).

8. Reboot.

After installing AMD drivers, I had no warning message "AMD graphics processor not found or unsupported" on next reboot.
I have the envy 17 3070 version.
I guess I can only wait HP to release the correct drivers.
With leschat's drivers everything works except this annoying brigthness issue. -
No way of getting to work on a Hp envy 17 3070nr,
The last one to work was this Catalyst 12.8 WHQL UnifL for ATi+Intel Graphics ← leshcatlabs.net
The leshcat 12.9 and 12.10 do not work here =( -
I am having trouble with my bluetooth. The icon is no longer in the system tray. I have attempted to uninstall and re install the network drivers for the Intel Centrino Advanced N600 but still no bluetooth.
Do I need to install any broadcom drivers if using the intel centrino? I should just need the driver listed on page 1 for the intel wireless + bluetooth high speed correct? -
But for some reason the top and the middle rows of the keyboard backlight are "connected" now, they light up and darken together........ -
Okay so I've read through this forum at least 4 times and I can't get my brightness setting to work. I'm on a HP-ENVY 15 32xx with AMD Radeon HD 7700 series graphics card.
Intel 4000 driver version: 9.17.10.2867
AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta6
I uninstalled all AMD components and the installed the 10/30 Radeon HD driver update on the first page and then the 12.11 Beta6 driver to get Catalyst Control Center back. (No switchable graphics though...)
All of my FeatureTestControl values are set to f940
the intelkmd value is set to f940 as well
the current control value is set to 1
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I can do screenshots if needed. Currently my face is a nice and tan while my retinas are screaming in agony.
If I could get switchable graphics back, that would be great as well. I do use them quite often. I have a restore point before uninstalling all AMD components, so I think until I can come up with a working solution, I will go back to that so I can switch up my graphics.
Thanks! -

Then something went wrong (it installs a CCC).
It isn't a problem to update your catalyst drivers after from AMD, but you need the HP provided Intel driver which sounds like didn't happen. I say it didn't install the correct Intel driver because when you install the package from HP, it installs Intel and AMD together. This results in the driver version for Intel reading the same version as the AMD package, which in your case is 8.982.6.0. -
Okay I won't worry about the CCC for now, I just want the brightness down from radiation levels. So, I need to uninstall everything, then install the proper HP package which has the correct Intel drivers right? Even though it is listed under the AMD driver. Then once that is done, I check all my FeatureTestControl values or apply the reg fix as well as check the intelkmd value.
Sorry, I am fairly new to all of this, but willing to get it figured out.
EDIT: Okay so I got it to work! Here's what I did:
-uninstalled evey thing using the express install
-reinstalled with the HP package
-rebooted (still no fix at this point, even with the reg modifications)
-installed the HP package again
-went into the reg and found f842's.
-changed them and rebooted
-worked!
I have no idea why I had to install the package twice, but it works now and I'm extremely grateful.
Thanks Adrynalyne for the support! Much appreciated. -
Yeah, that *should* fix it all up, and then you can update to the newest Catalyst package. Do verify that the correct Intel driver gets installed though.
If the correct Intel driver gets installed and it doesn't work with the reg hack, it might be a matter of you using a different controlset. In which case, I need the software info from the CCC. -
Yeah, these installer packages are flaky as heck. I had to install my drivers manually, and then install the HP package a second time through the installer. -
Windows 8 users, note this:
Windows 7 does not care whether it's f940 or ffff.. either works. -
Wish I could use this method with leshcat's graphics drivers. They work better than HP's drivers so I'm more interested to use leshcat's drivers. -
Ive provided a reference driver reg file as well on the blog:
http://adrynalyne.blogspot.com/2012/10/fix-brightness-control-for-windows-8.html
Nice find! -
Is there any form of third party driver software that will automatically detect the correct drivers to use and also discover unnecessary drivers along with any problems in services? I feel that I did more good than bad in my attempt to correct my bluetooth issues and a clean install of windows is my only option at this point which I would rather not due.

hi guys. i have problem with my display driver. it said "display driver not responding" when i'm using adobe photoshop for a long time. does someone know what is the most stable version of AMD driver for 7690?

Hello,
I have just made, as it is written.
However, it can not work with my Envy.
Envy 17 3010eg with 7690m XT. Does anyone have a solution? -
Catalyst 12.8 WHQL UnifL for ATi+Intel Graphics ← leshcatlabs.net
it worked for my 3010eg
You also have to deactivate the auto installation of new drivers in the system settings... -
Hello,
the page I already know.
However, when installing any fix installed. But I do not what a fix that makes the and especially how I can be the back we go.
Therefore this is not a way for me.
Thank you -

After upgrading the BIOS on my Envy 17t-3000 from F.06 to F.08 I noticed the following issues:
Windows 7 seems to be fine. The only difference I noticed so far is that when you restart the system it now pauses a few seconds longer between the shut down and the automated reboot. Also Version F.08 still has the keyboard bug when repeatedly pressing the <1><2><3> keys in fast succession.
Windows 8 has some new issues with F.08.
The Device Manager showed that some device drivers were missing. I re-installed the core drivers but I still had one device driver with the following Id's missing:
ACPI\VEN_HPQ&DEV_6001
ACPI\HPQ6001
*HPQ6001
Some on line searching reveled that other HP laptop users identified this to be the HP Wireless Button Driver on the F12 key but for a different laptop model. See: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...6-7xxx-dv7-7xxx-m7-1xxx-intel-ivy-bridge.html
I tried installing this driver on my Envy 17t-3000 and all is good now.
I am left with one more unresolved driver issue. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver version 11.6.0.1030 generates errors during the installation process.
Also we are all waiting for HP to release a windows 8 compatible switchable HD 7690M XT graphics driver. The latest Intel driver (V15.28.8.64.2875) seems to work but the same can't be said for the AMD drivers which are to be avoided! After letting the automated windows updates upgrade my AMD driver I was greeted to a black screen without any way to recover except by cycling the power and then aborting the windows 8 boot process several times in a row. You are then given the option of returning the system to a prior restore point.
So I highly recommend turning the automated windows 8 updates off until this mess has been resolved. -
Thanks for the info about the brightness issue. I had to re-install the AMD driver to make the registry hack work.

Consumer Notebooks and Windows 8 - Wireless/BT/WWAN & Radio ... - HP Support Forum
While I am at it, let me explain what is going on with the black screens.
Windows is installing and running BOTH graphics cards at the same time - the laptop is only meant to run one gfx at a time. Therefore, the laptop thinks there's 2 screens running on two different graphics card. One of the cards takes control of the actual pixels and pushes them to "its" screen - this can be the imaginary screen or the actual screen. If the card with the pixels has the imaginary screen, you get a blank laptop screen.
The work-around I have been using is opening device manager (WinKey+X) and manually disabling one card depending on whether I'm on battery or connected.
If you find yourself in a blank screen situation, the only 100% fix I know is connect an external display through HDMI and pressing the external display key on the keyboard then down arrow key then enter until the screens are all mirrored.
Another note, the fixes on this thread do fix the brightness and work for me on both cards.
This is the way it is until hp releases switchable drivers for widnows 8. -
This link to the AMD driver for Windows 7 is broken: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56896.exe
Does anyone have any mirrors for this file? Thanks! -
Any ideas? -
Try this
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver | HP® Support It's a huge 600 MB file but I believe it includes both drivers. It's also known as SP54916
Personally, the BIOS update I did notice reverted back to an older Intel HD Graphics driver which did not like my 'newer' AMD Catalyst Drivers and therefore didn't give me the option to switch to those graphics. Driver Genius is an awesome program if you can run it properly to download and install the absolute latest working drivers for the computer... most of which are newer than on HP's site interestingly. It pointed me to the newer Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver which after a reboot loaded up the AMD Graphics card (previous drivers but now working and detected) and gave me option to switch to Intel Graphics as it should.
The Drivers I installed after that BIOS update to resolve issues was Intel HD Graphics Drivers version 9.17.10.2875 named win64 15288.exe which I think is here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22083 -

I don't understand why there is no driver for the Envy 17 3000 with 7690m XT. There is a driver for everything else but not the display. That makes no sense.

envy 17 3000 - I have decided to forget about switchable graphics and their troubles. Just disable intel card in device manager and install ati drivers for peace of mind. I do not care about battery, my laptop rarely moves and I have an ipad. really terrible from hp though.
