I was having some issues with the HP provided drivers when playing Team Fortress 2. Framerate was being limited to 30-40 fps when the 7850M was capable of 3 times that and more and a strange filter effect applied to in game text making it hard to read. Also the HP provided drivers stop responding and restart when running the WEI and intermittentantly crashed accessing youtube. I did a repair on the Catalyst drivers and the frame returns but the game crashes after a minute of running. So I decided to try the fix a few pages back with different drivers cleanly installed.

The result: Frame rates back to normal and I can read the text again. However, a new bug has surfaced and I suspect is has to do with the non-HP tested drivers. When my laptop starts up, it blue screens due to the intel video not starting correctly. It reboots automatically and I start Windows normally and there is no issue the second time. Any thoughts why this might happen? I can live with the bluescreen if it means no more game play issues.

With all the graphic drivers issues I am starting to regret my purchase of the HP Envy 3270nr.

Ok I solved the problem myself. I just did the repair option in the Programs and Features under Control Panel. I have had 3 trouble free startups so far so I believe all is well. Thanks for the suggested replacement drivers!

I did follow the instructions. The issue I had occured after installing them. SInce running the control panel repair option I have had no issues. I suspect the Catalyst drivers didn't install correctly and this confirmed it.

Just got done doing startup recovery repair because of this bios update!! :) Thanks HP. I received a "boot disk not found" error. I also went into recovery and command prompt and C:\ was my 2nd HDD NOT my Crucial M4 SSD! WTH??
I almost passed out! J/K (about passing out, not the disk not found error)

Back up and working after attempting the automatic repair 3 times. Whew!

Updating the BIOS resets the BIOS to their default settings. If you are running two hard drives, it probably reset their default boot order. Commonly missed and easily resolved by tweaking the BIOS settings. All BIOS updates work this way unless you back up your BIOS settings. Nothing that HP did.

Attempted this on my 17-3070nr with a clean Windows 8 install and ended up with a black screen sometime during the AMD Catalyst 12.11 beta11 install. As far as I can tell, your instructions were followed faithfully (There wasn't any AMD Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall, however I did use Driver Fusion in safemode to remove Intel and AMD Graphics drivers). Is there something I'm missing?

<Thanks for the suggestion. I'm on F.05 at the moment.>

Just tried it with F.06. No go. Still a black screen.

Followed MacHaters guide for Graphics drivers on Win8, Envy 15 3200:

    1. Got black screen on installing 12.11 Beta drivers
    2. Hard reboot and drivers seemed to be installed but no Catalyst Control Panel installed (appears as installed Control Panel but not executable)
    3. No switchable graphics options (is Enduro running without my knowledge?)
    4. Trying this procedures for 13.1 drivers does not seem to install Radeon drivers or Catalyst Control Panel - AMD's installation completes but nothing happens
    5. Gave up, cleaned and reinstalled drivers from HP

Also, does anyone know which Bluetooth driver I should install? On HP's driver page it links an Intel Driver, but in my Device Manager it says Broadcom. In the OP there are drivers for each and I've run both successfully.

If the Device Manager indicates that you are using a Broadcom Bluetooth adapter, only install the Broadcom Bluetooth driver package on the first post. The Intel driver installation wizard may have gone all the way though, but it may not have installed and/or loaded the driver since the adapter does not actually exist on your machine.

The windows 7 display drivers work fine on windows 8. Brightness adjustments and everything works just the same. Install it in windows 7 compatibility mode. I did this on my envy 17 3d 3000 since it doesn't look like Hp will be releasing any display drivers.

    This post is great!
I just got a really nice Envy 17T 3200 Series with the 7850m gpu.
Out of the box I tested it in 3d mark. I also used AMD system monitor to see if the gpu wold kick in and ho wmuch it would work because ive read all about the enduro problems not letting the 7850m work to its fullest.
Well, sure enough I cranked the beast up, did a test and hit a lame 2300 in 3d mark 11. Ive read people getting almost 3000 if properly using the right drivers and over clicking the gpu.
Well. I followed this post and installed all advised drivers. WOW! I got just under 3000 not even over clocking anything! AMD system monitor showed me the 7850m kicked in at the proper times and used 99% of its power!

Only problem I cant fix is that some programs, like video editing software, is not compatible with the graphics switching. So even when i manually make the 7850m the priority gpu to edit videos, it doesnt kick in.
This would be fixed if I could go into the bios and manually swithc the gpu from Intel to AMD. But, Hp screwed us over. There is no switch to do this.

But back to the testing. This is in Windows 7 64bit. Im not even gonna waste my time with Windows 8 again. I checked out Windows 8 on another laptop I had before this one and I gotta tell you, Windows 8 is for people who want to solve puzzles. Cause thats is what kind of OS it is. You gotta sit there and try to figure out where everything is and how to get to the most basic parts of the OS. Then there is the problem with drivers. Ive yet to hear anyone using Windows 8 that has proper working drivers.

The thing with Windows 8 , and Im not sure if people realize this is, the OS is a total spyware OS. Everything you do on your pc if you have Windows 8 can be located back to you thanks to the location feature it has which is just like on a cell phone.
So when you go to those questionable websites, you are letting these websites know your location. Not just your ip, but your GPS coordinates! You can turn this off but I dont trust such a feature.

All laptops are going touch screen and will be using Windows 8 type OS that will be basically like your cell phone, tracking all things you do.

    Anyway.
Im sticking with Windows 7. I still have some problems with this laptop because it seems HP took a nice design and put it in a sack and shook the sack and just let the design magically try to make itself fall in place.
Well, needless to say, they have really slacked on the drivers and bios on this series. Shame seriously cause wow this thing is nice. If I can get all the driver issues under control I may just post a link with all the drivers that I find to give this series full capabilities.

Updates to the first post have resumed! I've been pretty busy in the last month or so, and I'm now just beginning to catch up. Thanks to those of you who have been posting updates while I've been "away." :)

Let's start with the BIOS updates first, since I think they are the most important:

    01/27/2013
    • Updated: BIOS for ENVY 15-30XX, version F.0B.
    • Updated: BIOS for ENVY 15-32XX / ENVY 17-32XX, version F.0A.
    • Updated: BIOS for ENVY 15-32XX / ENVY 17-32XX, version F.0B.

Most of you may not have been aware of the F.0B update for the ENVY 15-32XX / ENVY 17-32XX series, and that's because it was just released this past Friday. Again, please follow flashing precautions when applying the BIOS update.

More updates incoming...I've identified about ~40 Softpaqs + manufacturer driver packages that will be linked somewhere at some point in these driver threads. In fact, there should be more than that now...this job never ends! ;)

I've tried the new HP graphics drivers for the Envy 17 3D-3000. They are not perfect. After switching from ATI graphic card to INTEL graphic card, there is no option to switch back to ATI graphic card like I'm used on Windows 7.
Another small difference I've noticed, which for me it's relevant, is when I'm using the INTEL graphic card I can't set the refresh rate to 120hz like I'm used on Windows 7. I have the Envy 3D version and I can notice smoother fast transition when I'm using 120hz refresh rate.

I'm still using F.06 bios version. I've tried leshcat's drivers and they work better than HP.

I've also tried without success to install the driver posted by HP (sp60115 - ) on my Envy 17-30 with Windows 8 - 64bits: still black screen during installation and after reboot.

Did someone managed to make it work on 17-30 ? Is there anything to do before installation (remove intel HD driver or non working AMD driver installed by MS ?)

    Thanks

I have an Envy 3002ea. The issue with the laptop is the latest BIOS F.08. It is defective, and causes issues with the INTEL graphics card. Firstly what I did was to downgrade to F.06. The next issue is that it seems that HP have not bundled the Intel drivers with sp60115. So what I did was install sp60115 normally to install the AMD driver and Catalyst. If the screen goes blank, it means your PC has switched to INTEL graphics card using a non-AMD driver (probably in-built MS driver). Leave it for a while until you think installation is finished, and then power off the laptop. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Download the graphics driver for Windows 7 64bit and extract it. Inside the extraction folder, under Packages you should find the AMD Intel HD graphics. Use these drivers for the Intel display adapter. Reboot and switchable graphics should be working fine.

Ok so this is my second post and an update to let other know what I think about the Envy 17t 3200 series.
I have an Adata 128gb Msata wihc is awesome. FAstest I could find and runs at around 500mb+/s read and write.
Then I have a regular spindle type 750mb hd for files and its read write is around 100mb/s. I had the hybrid 750mb hd but after comparing the speed of it vs the other I am using now there is only a small 20mb/s speed increase with the hybrid.
The hybrid is best used for the boot HD is you dont use a Sata or Msata because although file transfer is not much faster than a normal hd its burst speed is allot faster. This burst speed will increase game play and boot up time as well as other short term applications. It wont help much for video editing and stuff like that.
I updates all the drivers. and the latest bios. There are a few drivers on the first page of this thread that can be updated by using INtel drivers from there website.
The Laptop gave me a high score of just over 3440 in 3dmark 2011. Ofcourse that is fully pushing the 7850 to its limits by using MSI after burner and going to 1200 memory and about 820 for gpu. Not overclocked I get right at 3000.
This is with the latest 12.11 Bete drivers for AMD 7850 and the latest Intel drivers for the HD400 and I also am using all the latest chipset Intel drivers. Im running windows 7 x64.
I did decide to try windows 8 x64 and found that a few of the drivers for Win7 dont work with Win 8 and in fact there is none avalable so you ahve to use what Win 8 offers and these are minor issues because these are for the card reader and wired internet.
Its no competition when it comes to which OS to use for this laptop and in my opinion and PC. Windows 7 is still the better OS. Windows 8 is just a ridiculous idea that should have never come to retail.
The 3dmark 2011 scores were lower and I couldnt get the laptop to overclock as high in Win 8. I got allot of BSOD in Win 8 so I went back to unclicked. I found the OS to be cumbersome. Problematic. Hard to deal with. Confusing.
The laptop didnt like Win 8 at all. It ran on it but it seemed to be cripled and just didnt want to do what I asked it to do sometimes.

A few things I find about this laptop that kinda sucks whether Win 8 or Win 7, the touch pad just sux. The whole thing is a click pad. You can right clikc and if you hit it closer to the middle of the pad it will left click. Same is you left click ti will right click because the whole pad
is one big clickable plate and it works as a see saw tye click rather than seperate clickable buttons. Many times I have to redo the click and the touch sensitivity really sux. I needed to tweak it and even with the latest drivers, the touch pad is just trash. Well maybe not trash but its the worst on any laptop I have ever used.
The pointer is clumsy. I can seem to get a fix on putting the pointer where I want it many times. The pad often resizes the screen, moves suddenly and registers touches and click wrong. This is not a software issue or a hardware issue its just due to a trash touchpad.

The keyboard is bout on par with the touchpad. The lit up keyboard usually statys lit but sometimes it will imediatly go off and sometimes it will stay on. It does have a 3 stage setting that you can turn off. Supposedly keep on all the time or it will turn off when not in use after a minute and come back on after a button is pressed. This feature works when it wants. I can tuen of the lit up keyboard and tun it off but it sometimes goes on when it wants in the auto mode. The buttons themselves are not very comfy. When looking at the keyboard some of them look un even and even kind of twisted. Its not bad but you can recognize it. Some make odd squek noises. Overall the keyboard sux. Not even close to a good game keybard cause may times I have to press some buttons more than one time and this is a random thing.
Lots of people have complained about this and even though I read about it I wanted this laptop anyway because it looks really nice and offers a very good video card for the price.

The beats audio is something that could be allot better. The volume wheel sometimes works. Usually doesnt.
I decided to just add SRS to the audio and defeat the Beats bull.

The screen on Win 8 looked washed out. On Win7 its really nice.
The fan stays on and is usually low and slow. This laptop stays cool and I never feel heat from it even when using it hard. They got it right with the cooling on this thing.

I had a bulging usb port. I took a ink pen and pushed it in. No biggie.
You will always see 2 red demon looking low intensity lights next to each side of the camera. That is the prox sensor which I noticed worked once while it was asleep then came on when I walked in front of it. but the screen has to be opened and you gotta enable sleep which I turned off.

    Battery life is very good.

I have been able to switch graphics on almost every application I use. I even tested this with AMD system monitor and verified the 12.11 graphics and HD 4000 work the way they are suppose to now. In the older drivers they wouldnt work right.
You have to switch graphics manually in the switchable graphics properties. But it does work and works really good.

The bluray playe r rather loud when loading and ejecting. But I kinda like it cause it gives that robotic feel. Now, if the bluray dies out, you are screwed cause its not a usual player. The eject button is over the number 0 key.
Wireless is a beast. I still think Killer N is best though. But this is right there just under it. Its still number 2 on the wireless cards to haev in a laptop. WHich is outstanding.

The thing about this laptop is that it is in its own category. You wont find another laptop with this kind of look and this kind of video card and a 1080p screen for this price. I paid under a grand on eBay from HP. I have 16gb of ram. It came with a Hybrid drive which I sold.
For the price, I expected a very good touchpad and keyboard. I got trash.
BUT, although I say trash, it does work good. Just not as good as a 1000 dollar keyboard and touch pad should work. More like a 100 dollar laptop.

The laptop is very fact and responsive to applications. The screen is very nice.
The cpu is a beast. Coming form a Llano to this intel 3610qm is no comparison. And the switchable graphics is really cool and useful.
SOmetimes I use the big 7850 while watching a 1080p video and sometimes I just use to HD4000. I can tell a little difference in the colors and quality. but one big advantage when using the 7850m on videos is that you can set colors in the video. You cant do that when using the HD4000.
So if a movie you are watching is do dark, switch it to 7850 and tweak the video in the Catalyst.

    Im happy with the purchase.
The laptop feels really sturdy and rugged. Heavy.
Its pretty dam big too. I have no problem watching movies from the screen 10 feet away.
The only big ing I have is the volue knob and the touch pad and keyboard.

These things are somewhat overlooked when you realize you have a very fast and high end laptop.
Would I get another HP... Prolly not.
I had a huge time just finding all the drivers. Then getting the laptop to respond to my fingers without it going nuts was an ordeal.
Then I had to play with the thing to learn how it works cause it isnt a usual laptop. Its a big machine with a certain learning curve to it due to the prox sensor and the way the keyboard works and the switchable graphics works.

Once you get the hang of it its a bad laptop.
But the resell will be a cause this isnt your kids toy. And most people just dont wanna deal with learning curves and keyboards and volume wheels.

Ill be keeping this for a year or so till I see the next best thing.
Important things for me is sound. I like my sound high end. I also like a lit up keyboard that I can switch on and off and have the keys feel like they are responding to my thoughts.

Apparently the BIOS for ENVY 15-30XX, version F.0B has broken the USB charging while the system is off. Reverting to the version F.09 makes it work again.

I have the I7-3610 cpu. Which is an upgrade from yours.
But the Video card is the same. I am using the newest AMD Video driver whch is the 13.2 Beta.
    Downlaod it HERE.
The 13.1 drivers dont work for me.
I also cant get the mobility drivers to work or even install because it says my video card is not compatible with the mobility drivers.
I highly suggest you use 13.2 Beta then install the latest 12.11 cap 2 profile so the video card will work to its max potential.

You need to totally unsintall all amd software.
    Restart, then reinstall 13.2

AFter that, restart. Then install amd system monitor HERE

ANytime you want to check and see if the 7850 is working you have to open the amd monitor and it will show you the work load on the hd400 and 7850m.
I can tell you that my setup is running very well and even have it overclocked at 817mhz and 1200mhz for mem. I have it setup to start up at this speed without me setting it up at each boot.

    I use MSI after Burner.
I had to follow steps to get it to run properly with the 7850m by using this video found HERE

You didnt mention if you are running Windows 8 or WIndows 7.
I have tried both. I find Windows 7 to work best. Windows 8 has some issues right now, with this laptop. The internet for one, has to be reloaded often. I can go to any website and it sometimes will not load unless I hit reload.
Ive tried 2 different drivers. One from this thread and one from Intel. They are different drivers but have same result.

You will also have issues with the video in WIndows 8 sometimes. I find the screen to look a bit washed out on Win8 vs Win7. I also cant overclock as much on Win8 vs Win7.
I do like the Win8 overall theme. I hate the stupid apps screen. I had to install STart8. Its the best WIn8 to Win7 conversion Ive found and Ive tried them all.
If I could get Win8 to work without the kinks Id run it. But Win7 so far is the best bet as of now.

Back to the 7850m. The 7850m will never kick on unless you program it too in AMD catalyst. Then, even some programs dont recognize the 7850m. SO far its been working for me except for a couple of video editing programs I use. Even when I tell catalyst to use it, it wont. I am talking about the Xilisoft video converter / editor software. They have this feature that is supose to utilize the gpu to make the conversion super fast but it doesnt even work with the 7850m. It does, however, show the cpu being used, in amd monitor.

I can actually make the 7850m kick in when I use VLC, Firefox, Classic Media Player and have great experience with it using games.
I can say that it does work 100% when the software you are using it with calls for its power. SOmetimes it will work 100% and sometimes it just runs at 33%. It works as much as it is required.
Its never full throttle unless it needs to be like when I run 3d MArk bench marks. I can also say that the old drivers were trash and didnt even use half the gpu's power at anytime. Now, the recent drivers work great.

Do not update envy 17 3000 to BIOS F.09

Dropped fps 80% in all games, reverted back to f.08 and fine again

F.08 breaks switchable graphics for me, so I have to downgrade back to F.06. HP are a joke when it comes to support

yea f.08 has broken switchable graphics and you would think f.09 fixes it... nope. But i only need the ATI card and intel's disabled on f.08 and f.09 because I never unplug laptop. HP is definitely a joke atm.

Currently using F.08 with ATI graphics and no intel card in device manager or anywhere.

I have the HP Envy 17-3270NR and using BIOS "F.0B" with no issues. Both ATI and INTEL show up in my Device Manager and everything is working as It should. If you don't see Intel in your device manage then you need to check your drivers, and if that don't work its a hardware failure. 99% of the time when something is missing from the Device Manager it is a hardware failure, now if you have the 3D version not sure if Intel would show there or not never seen that model yet.

    Hope this helps...

envy 17 3000 f.08+ bios makes intel card go missing in windows 8. if you downgrade bios you get it back.

It is definitely a BIOS issue. Downgrade the BIOS and you see the INTEL card, upgrade it and it disappears. In fact, I think HP is well aware of this issue, because the newest graphics package for Windows 8 does not include the Intel drivers, while the Windows 7 does. The 32xx range is slightly different to the 30xx range.

On my Envy 17 3000 I lose the AMD graphics, not the Intel one...
but still pretty sad to have to go back to F06 to get switchable graphics...

Just waisted a few hours installing Catalysts and Bioses, hoping that F09 would be better than F08, I should have known better :-(

    HP please wake up!

It looks like I lose the AMD card at first but then I show hidden devices in device manager and uninstall and disable both cards and restart. After restart I only get the AMD card.

A bit lost with this thread, is there an updated graphics driver package (the ones from Feb?) that works on both AMD and Intel? Specifically referring to 17-3000.

Also has anyone flashed 09 bios and gotten things to actually work or is it consistently inferior for all?

Really want to format 7 and take the win8 leap (I already have it on desktop don't want to debate the merit).

No - the package provided is the most current Softpaq that is available from HP. Not expecting HP to release a new Softpaq that includes updated AMD and Intel drivers, unfortunately. :(

I know this is an old post, but it seemed to break my video switching support, so I'm back to F.06 again. That's actually the reason I dropped back in here (been really busy the past few months, so gotta catch up). I was hoping to find out there was something simple I needed to do to use that BIOS revision and keep my switchable video working (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate)
