You might want to download a free tool called Speccy. It will show you what devices you have installed and if all goes well the wireless card and fingerprint hardware you have in your machine.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Good luck and you can definitely revive the laptop. The info on this forum will get you there.

Hm, it seems like I'm not missing the driver so much as that my wireless is unplugged or not enabled.

I downloaded the driver, and the installation went fine, but it said I still need to plug in the device.

Meanwhile, Speccy says "Wi-Fi not enabled".

Is there some way for me to get the system to recignize/enable the wireless device? The physical wireless on/off button (a function key) isn't working.

You could try to temporarily install HP Wireless Assistant. See if that helps.

    • Updated MediaSmart Music to version 4.1.4215 (4.1 C1) (thanks Z3tor).
    • Added previous HP Wireless Assistant versions 4.0.4.2 and 4.0.6.0.

I'm just adding these previous releases of Wireless Assistant for reference, and to get rid of version 3.5 which may incompatible. :)

Just got off the phone with Envy support:

According to HP Support, a new BIOS is going to be released in the next couple of days for the Envy 14 (newer than the F.12 BIOS) that is supposed to reconfigure the power distribution. According to this rep, the power distribution isn't working correctly as of now, and the new BIOS is supposed to "fix" this. So battery life is supposed to increase.

Quick question: witch drivers should I install to get my mic jack working?
Everything else works, expect the mic jack.

Now this worked before (with the hdd & hp installation), I just did a clean install on my new ssd, and this is the only thing I cannot get working

A few updates to the first post for those who need it:

    08/24/2010
    • Updated Ralink RT3090 Wireless LAN driver to version 3.1.8.0.

    08/25/2010
    • Updated LightScribe System Software to version 1.18.18.1.
    • Updated Intel GMA / HD Graphics driver to version 8.15.10.2189 [15.17.10(.64).2189].

I just verified the link to the Envy 14 BIOS release and it is working from what I can tell.

The newer IDT High Def. Audio drivers don't work properly on Envy 14 Win7 x64. Impossible to mute! Mute appears to take effect but audio is still loud. Had to revert to original drivers to mute.

I'm trying to install an update to MediaSmart Music Software via the HP Support Assistant but having problems. Download seems to start, progress bar moves a little, rather slowly and then download and installation fail. Doesn't seem to tell me why or really give me much info.

Anyone know if it writes to any logs anywhere, or experienced this themselves?

This is on an HP dm4-1050ea BTW

Finally had the chance to update the first post. Remember, MediaSmart is optional and installation may take a while. :)

    09/06/2010
    • Updated Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth driver package to version 6.3.0.6300 (thanks Z3tor).

    09/14/2010
    • Updated MediaSmart DVD for Windows 7 to version 4.1.4229 (4.1 C1).
    • Updated MediaSmart Photo for Windows 7 to version 4.1.4319 (4.1 C1).
    • Updated MediaSmart Live TV for Windows 7 to version 3.1.3003 (3.1 C3).
    • Updated MediaSmart SmartMenu for Windows 7 to version 3.1.1.12 (3.2 B1).

I suggest you try installing MediaSmart utilities through the links that I provided, if the problems are persisting. HP Support Assistant just doesn't cut it when it comes to properly downloading and installing software updates. (Sometimes Support Assistant updates to a version much older than what I may have provided)

Whenever I try to install an ATI driver the install process freezes up. I chose to do a custom install; froze, and then express install; froze again.
Does anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong.

An important BIOS release has been issued by HP for the dm4, dv5 Gen 2, CQ32, and G32 notebooks. See the documentation or Z3tor's post for more information on fixes.

Since the HP G32 looks to be exactly the same as the CQ32, I will now be supporting it in this driver thread. :)

    09/20/2010
    • Added support for HP G32 notebooks.
    • Updated BIOS for dm4 / dv5-2xxx / CQ32 / G32 to version F.17 (thanks Z3tor).

Let it freeze (screen goes black). After 5 minutes let it go to sleep (either close the lid or navigate to it blindly (start>right>right>up>ENTER), then wake it up again and the screen will wake up to. Ati drivers will be installed.

On my Envy 14 the driver version is listed as:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.753.5-100730a-103191E-ATI

Is this the same as Version:8.741.1.3?

When I try and install the latest version it says its up to date, but it doesn't seem to be...(in the sense that the two numbers aren't the same?)

Looks like your drivers are newer than the drivers on the HP support site!
I noticed these drivers were released for the dv6tse which also uses the same 5650/intel switching combo. Have been tempted to download them and try it.

    Hey everyone,

Please note that the following has now been moved to a dedicated thread geared toward HP software.

    • LightScribe System Software
    • HP MediaSmart
    • HP Wireless Assistant

I will still be updating these, just in the new software thread that I had created for them. If you're interested in these applications, you can find them at http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...popular-hp-notebook-software-compilation.html.

There's a question on DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Reader Software sp50048.
I found the support webpage of HP shows it's for both 32&64 bit.But it seems that it only support 64bit Version Of Win7. Mine is 32bit, when I install it, it failed. You can check it. Maybe it's a bug of HP.

Thanks for these Intel drivers. However even if I apply the -overall command I still end up with the 9.1.1.1022 drivers on my Envy 14..

Edit: Allthough the drivers didn't seem to update a new tab showed up in HWmonitor, it now states the power used by the CPU (5,71W)

Is it just me or are the IDT High Definition Audio Codec links broken?

I also have another question. Regarding those devices for which it is recommended that one uninstalls the previous driver version prior to installing the newer version, what is the best way to go about the uninstallation process? For the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver for example it is represented in both the Programs and Features list and of course in Device Manager. When I upgrade this and similar drivers how should I go about uninstallation, through Programs and Features or Device Manager?

    Many thanks!

Sorry to quote myself, but could someone please verify the dead IDT High Definition Audio Codec links and perhaps answer my question, please? I have searched for the answer for proper driver uninstallation procedure but was unable to find a satisfactory answer.

Yes, HP has taken down the current IDT HD Audio drivers for unknown reasons. There was nothing wrong with them (I have them installed), so I'm not sure what's going on right now. I have since removed the now dead links on the first post.

As for removing the IDT drivers, I simply uninstall them through Programs and Features, then restart - this procedure removes both the driver and software.

Just a side note, I also will not be posting the new AMD Catalyst display drivers since they do not support notebooks with hybrid/switchable graphics.

    10/24/2010
    • Removed driver links to IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6300.0.
    • Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 7.027 for Windows 7.
