Looks like the IDT HD Audio driver removed several days ago is now up again! Links have been updated. Also added version 6292 as a previous release for convenience.

    10/30/2010
    • Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec to version 6.10.6292.0.
    • Updated driver links to IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6300.0.

Unless I am somehow mistaken it seems that version 6.10.6300.0 is now down again. How strange.

Thank you for this awesome post..helped me so much as I clean installed on my brand new dm4.

Had a question...should we install based on the order you posted the drivers? or is the order not an issue? Was just curious..

    Thanks once again!

Hey everyone, I have a question about installing the Intel Chipset Device Software drivers.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Envy 14 a couple of months ago and installed all of the drivers as instructed by this and another clean install thread, but have always been skeptical as to whether I actually installed the Intel Chipset Device Software drivers successfully, and that skepticism has remained with each subsequent update.

The reason for my skepticism is that when going through all of my hardware in Device Manager I cannot find a single device with the same driver number as that which I have installed (EX: 9.2.0.1015 for the latest version).

I admit I'm a little green around the edges when it comes to this process, but in checking the devices which I would assume should have this driver number they all either have a driver by Microsoft from 6/21/2006 numbered 6.1.7600.16385 (or something similar) or a driver by Intel from 10/28/2009 numbered 9.1.1.1022 (or something similar but not the current driver number).

This is true for my driver under "Computer" (ACPI x64-based PC), all of the drivers under "Processors", most of the drivers under "System devices", and most of the drivers under "Universal Serial Bus controllers."

Have I done something wrong? Have I not actually installed these drivers correctly? How can I be certain that I have if I can't find any devices with the applicable driver number?

In every install I have run the .exe file from the applicable location using the -overall command as instructed (this time I assume it is the Setup.exe file from the unpackaged file from HP?), and everything seems to go as would be expected but I am a bit spooked by not being able to actually SEE that these drivers have been installed. I have also tried installing using the -overall command on the file downloaded directly from HP (EX: sp50888 for the most recent version, the previous versions were not directly from HP so I didn't have this "option" then) in case that was the applicable install file (I don't think it is what the instructions on the first post are referencing?) but still haven't seen the current driver number anywhere.

EDIT: I did some researching from this Intel page http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/chpsts/inf but admit that I am still pretty lost in the weeds what with the:

"The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, however, is not a driver, nor does it include drivers. It contains information files (INFs).... An INF is a text file that provides the operating system with information about a piece of hardware on the system. In the case of the current Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, that information is primarily the product name for the piece of hardware. This allows the operating system to show the correct name for that piece of hardware in Device Manager."

    and the

"You do not need to upgrade to the latest version of the Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility (also known as Intel® Chipset Device Software) unless you are experiencing an issue that is listed under the Issues Resolved section in the release notes for the latest version... If you need to upgrade to the latest version, you will need to install the utility using the have-disk installation method. The setup.exe installation will not install the utility if another version is already installed on your system."

type speech. I am needless to say a bit confused.

I did run the "Automatically detect and update drivers and software" test on that site and it indicated that I had the correct "driver" version number (the most recent as posted on this thread) so that is reassuring I suppose, and I ran the older "driver" installer just for kicks and it also indicated that I had the most recent version installed and suggested that I abort installation of the old ones, which I did, but I'm still a bit confused. A break down in layman's terms would be most appreciated. I still don't quite undertand how I can have the latest version installed but not have any indication of such when looking through Device Manager.

Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to learn!

    Thanks!

Your chipset drivers are installed correctly. Install package always contains drivers for many different chipsets. For your chipset (5 series, i assume) version 9.1.1.1022 is latest good driver. Lately new packages just add support for new chipsets. Hope this helped...

That certainly answers my initial question as to whether or not I have the latest drivers successfully installed, which is all I really "need" to know for now.

I just uninstalled the HP Quick Launch Buttons and installed the HP Quick Launch Software on my clean install Envy 14, but the new software doesn't seem to maintain the functionality of the previous software.

Regardless of having either program installed all of the functions for the f keys will work (brightness, sound control, etc.) but the HP Quick Launch Buttons adds an Fn + Esc System Information function that can actually be pretty handy, and the Fn + B Beats Audio switching function.

With the HP Quick Launch Software neither the Fn + Esc combination, nor the Fn + B combination do anything.

When I installed the new software the process was a little different from the other HP software that I have downloaded which unpackages into SwSetup and then installs from there. This didn't unpackage anywhere but did go through the setup process, and after installing I did see the software in my Programs and Features list. Although it didn't ask me to restart as does the installation process of the HP Quick Launch Buttons, I did anyway. But, as I mentioned, the only functions that I actual knew of/used from HP Quick Launch Buttons didn't work.

Did anyone else notice this? Is there perhaps something wrong with the installer or did I do something incorrectly? Did they just remove these functions? If they removed Fn + Esc and Fn + B, is there any other reason to even have this software? Fn + Esc and Fn + B are the only functions I noticed it adding to my keyboard functionality.

    Thanks!

Any suggestions about this issue? Since the post above I have tried uninstalling the newest HP Quick Launch Software, installing the original HP Quick Launch stuff from my original SwSetup folder which I saved prior to doing a clean format, and reinstalling the newest HP Quick Launch Software on top, but to no avail.

In fact, as far as I could tell, reinstalling the new HP Quick Launch Software on top of the old simply resulted in uninstallation of the old and fresh installation of the new.

Either way, just to reiterate, my dilemma is this:

With HP Quick Launch Buttons installed (the latest version that was posted on the first page of this thread prior to being removed and replaced with HP Quick Launch Software) the Fn + Esc and Fn + B functions both worked. After uninstalling this and installing HP Quick Launch Software instead, neither of them work.

    Any help or ideas?

    Thanks!

EDIT: I have also found that I can get the System Information window to be displayed and the Beats Audio icon to appear and the bass change to happen by opening the applicable files from their location in Program Files. But as noted, the Fn + Esc and Fn + B key combinations do nothing.

I'm a little confused about the graphics drivers posted for use.

For an Envy 14 i5-450m ati, I believe it runs both intel and ati drivers for respective hardware, switchable. The guide informs:

"Do not install this (intel HD graphics driver) if you have an ATI graphics card or an NVIDIA graphics card!"

I'm assuming this is for all other models? Also, the Intel HD drivers also includes the Turbo Boost drivers.

Do I install the Intel HD graphics drivers and then the ATI? Do I then NOT have to install the Turbo Boost drivers?

Amazing how much attention to detail it takes for a laptop to be PURIFIED.

The Intel HD Graphics drivers are for the other models. For the Envy 14, all you need is the AMD/ATI driver package since it already contains the Intel switchable graphics components.

What is the difference between the Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller Version 7.0.31 (2010-12-03) listed in this forum and the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver Version 7.25.824.2010 (2010-12-03) listed on the HP Software and Driver Downloads website (sp50657.exe)?

Can't say whats the difference between theese two drivers, since there isn't change logs available. The one at HP ftp is actually version 7.025.0824.2010 (2010-08-24), while latest driver from Realtek is version 7.031.1025.2010 (2010-10-25).

I get the same problem! I recently did clean windows install including uptodate drivers on my Envy 14 and yet the quick launch feature doesn't recognize those preconfigured fn key combos. I'm still quite interested if you can allocate your own combinations. Can anyone advise?

    New bios for DM4....
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) HP Pavilion dm4-1060ee Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

And I would recommend updating to the latest CCC because HP uses an old one. With the newer ones, CCC starts much quicker at startup, so for instance if you changed your gamma settings, rather than waiting a good minute for them to kick in, they kick in after a few seconds.

Here's the direct link taken from the ATI... ahhh.... AMD site.
    https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...obile/10-12_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe

If anyone is wondering what changes i've come across...basically none. Bios wise...nothing. GPU wise...my WEI for the intel is now 4.3/5.3...pretty sure it used to be 4.4 and 4.9 or something. I don't know. ATI still the same... I think.

    So basically? Nothing changes. lol.

I'm having trouble updating the ENVY BIOS to the latest version. I get to the final screen before the flash process (the one that warns not to unplug the AC, close the lid, open new programs, etc.) and the computer freezes. The only resolution to the freeze is to disconnect the AC and remove the battery.

Can anyone help me out here?

Updating on Christmas Day... hopefully you all are having a great day! :D

Thanks Z3tor and bluedayz for the following updates:

    12/25/2010
    • Updated Intel Chipset Device Software to version 9.2.0.1016.
    • Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 6.244 for Windows Vista and version 7.034 for Windows 7.

The Intel Chipset Device Software update comes from GIGABYTE Technology, and adds further support to the upcoming Intel 6-series chipsets and 2011 Core processors. However, this version continues to support older generation chipsets as well. :) Please see the Important Information section regarding recommendations on how you should install this version, since it is packaged rather differently.

Hi, If I have an Envy 14 with switchable graphics (i5/Radeon 5650) is it possible to install first Radeon, then Intel driver from Your thread, or do I have to insall them both at the same time using one installer from HP's site?

I'm asking because HP doesn't show the newest December
    Code:
    8.771.1.0 (AMD)
    8.15.10.2182 (Intel SG)

driver in their support page ATM.

    See here:
Software & Driver Downloads HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Or does Your driver work the same way HP's does? AKA it insalls both Intel amd AMD drivers at the same time, only reboot required, done?

The ATI/AMD driver package is provided by HP - it installs the ATI/AMD graphics drivers and the included Intel switchable graphics component at the same time.

You can try to install the standalone Intel GMA/HD Graphics driver afterwards, but I wouldn't recommend it - the standalone is really meant for notebooks that don't have an ATI/AMD graphics card.

I seem to be having a problem with my Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.

If memory serves, I updated to version 10.1.0.1008 right when it was released in order to keep the driver current and at the time it installed successfully. Although I don't recall specifically looking in the taskbar after installing to be certain that it was in fact running, I strongly believe that it was. Either way, for a week I didn't notice that it not functioning if it wasn't, which I think that I would have because I keep a close eye on my taskbar. As far as I know, after the install everything was working fine.

So tonight I installed the most recent Intel Chipset Device Software version, followed all of the instructions, and even went on the Intel website to do a system scan to be certain that it had installed succesfully which it had.

However, whether caused by the Chipset update or not, I noticed in the taskbar that Intel Rapid Storage Technology was not running. In an effort to fix the issue, I first restarted my computer just to see if RST not running was just a fluke of some sort. Unfortunately, upon restart and given an adequate amount of time, it still never began to run. Worried, I tried to reinstall RST, but it failed, stalling at "Installing Driver: Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller Version: 10.1.0.008" with the error "An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit." I then uninstalled RST in Programs and Features thinking that perhaps the error occurred because it didn't like me trying to install over the already installed same version and subsequently restarted. I then tried to reinstall RST again, but again gave the same error. Assuming that the Chipset update was the culprit, I went ahead and installed the previous version of Chipset drivers. It prompted me that I was going to be installing an old version and I went ahead and did it. After restarting I then tried to reinstall the latest version of RST yet again, but the same error still resulted.

During this whole process, I noticed a few things that struck me as odd, whether they are relevent I am not sure. Even with RST uninstalled the icon on the taskbar for RST is still there. If I mouse over it it indicates that RST is not running, and if I look in Programs and Features it does not show RST, but if I try to open RST through the taskbar icon, it will cause some file to run. I also noticed that after uninstalling RST, its folder in Program Files with a bunch of other files inside of it remains; it is not removed as I would assume it should have been. Additionally, if I try to reinstall the most recent version of RST, it will fail with the error noted above, but strangely enough, it will still list it in Programs and Features regardless of the failure. It won't work, but it is listed there nevertheless.

Eventually what I did was uninstalled the latest version of RST again (it was listed in Programs and Features because of the issue noted above despite the failed install) and then installed the previous version, which worked just fine on both the latest Chipset version and the one prior.

So my question is, what is the issue? Again, I am almost 100% positive that this latest version of RST installed successfully the first time I tried with the then most recent Chipset version with no problems. But now, I can't get it to work. What is going on here? Are the things I listed which struck me as strange truly strange? Why would RST install successfully on one Chipset version, then fail to work on the update, and continue to fail even when the Chipset version is rolled back? Any ideas on how to get the latest version to install successfully?

Sorry for a long post and a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate some help. This has spooked me a bit, I admit.

To add difficulty to the situation, stupidly I forgot to create a System Restore point prior to installing the latest Chipset version, and my latest point is a week ago, much further back than I would be comfortable restoring to unless absolutely necessary. Granted I don't know if that would definitely help, but that foolish mistake certainly limits my options even further.

Any help would be most appreciated!

UPDATE: After a lot of fiddling and trying to uninstall Chipset and RST drivers in varying sequences trying to get things to work as desired, I actually somehow made things worse. I was trying just to get back to a stable state where RST worked, and was going to do my last run of experiments before going to bed, that being reinstalling the previous to latest Chipset version and then the previous to latest RST version, hoping that this combination would work as it had before encountering any of these problems, but, unfortunately, now even that version of RST will not install and it gives me the exact same error as listed above.

So as of right now, I can install whichever Chipset version I want, but regardless of what I do, RST refuses to install.

Again, any help would be great!

I'm currently doing some testing and yes, it seems that version 10.1.0.1008 refuses to install again. Additionally, the latest Intel Chipset Device Software mistakenly overwrites the RST driver with its own older version.

Right now, the only alternative that I can think of right now is to update back to RST version 10.0.0.1046 - I've tried this and it works without issue.

    Thanks justinkw1,

It's nice to know that others are experiencing similar issues.

As explained in my previous post, despite quite a lot of troubleshooting, I was eventually stuck with a situation in which no version of RST was able to successfully install, regardless of the Intel Chipset Device Software version.

I ended up having to use my most recent System Restore point from a week ago and subsequently had to reinstall whatever other drivers and software had been removed in the process.

My system is now up to date with all of the current drivers other than the most recent Intel Chipset Device Software version. Given my experience and your affirmation of its causing problems, I have no plans for trying to reinstall it at the moment. However, if you (or anyone) track down a solution to the problem other than having to roll back to a previous version of RST, I would be very insterested in hearing about it!

My personal lesson of the day: Regardless of one's confidence in the reliability of a new driver, one would be wise to always make a System Restore backup immediately prior to updating, because sometimes that's all that will work to resolve an issue, and it can be very frustrating/a big hassle to be forced to repeat previous updates and installations for software which had been working just fine only moments earlier. Note taken.

    Thanks!

See this thread for a method you can use to update the ENVY 14 BIOS to F.23.

Justin...got a couple of questions for you:

    1. The intel chipset software installation...the second I click "install" it tells me "finished" with no progress bar or anything. Is this normal?

    2. Could you find some new broadcom wireless drivers? I've looked around and can't find anything at all.

Thanks for all your work man.

Don't need to jump through all those hoops, just modify the platform.ini file so Dialog=0 and then run InsydeFLash and it should update.

I just tried that. It didn't work. The platform.ini file I get when I download and extract sp51091.exe already has Dialog=0 in the section [FlashComplete], and it hangs when I run InsydeFlash.

    1. Did you try running Setup.exe in the overall mode? When in overall mode, the installation should take a little longer since it is trying to do a comprehensive update for all Intel components.

    2. Right now, I do not know of any new Broadcom wireless LAN drivers. This might change soon though. ;)

After installing the new Intel Chipset Drivers, after bootup my CPU Usage hovered around 25% when idle. (I'm on an HP Envy 14 with an i520m)

Has anyone else had this problem? After I rolled back to the old Chipset drivers, the CPU stayed at 0% when idle.

Has anyone had any issue with the new bios update for the envy 14? I currently have F.06 and have been experiencing my wifi dropping randomly (red x over wifi). If I would upgrade how would I update it, I'm running a clean install but do have the hptools partition. It sounds like some people are having a problem updating. I guess I'm just wondering if the update was recommended since everything else seems to run alright. Does anyone know if the F.13 bios made their computer run louder (fan cycling more often)? Thanks.

Yes, I have experienced this problem on my dv6. It seems that due to this, it is also causing occasional lag and choppiness throughout my Windows sessions.

Due to this and problems with reinstalling RST, I will be removing the current versions of both the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and Intel Chipset Device Software.

Also, I'm trying to polish up a refreshed version of the first post. The style will remain largely the same but there will be some noticeable differences. :) It should hopefully be up by New Year's Day, so stay tuned!

What's overall mode and how do I do it?

I guess though I shouldn't install them, right? Because of the 20% CPU usage...

It means run the installer with "-overall" parameter. Open a command window in the folder where you have downloaded the installer, type "setup.exe -overall" and complete the installer wizard. Reboot.

It sure looks like the latest chipset drivers are useless :( Nothing wrong with the RST though...

    Hey justinkw1,

Quick question in regards to the portion of your post quoted above. Why are you planning to remove the latest RST driver as well?

I ask only because from what I gathered with the hiccups I experienced, and in reading of the other issues users have noted, it seems to me that the problem lies solely with the latest Intel Chipset Device Software and doesn't really have anything to do with RST.

Have you had some issue specific to the latest RST driver?

    Thanks!
