A new TouchPad driver update is now available, surprisingly from Microsoft Update.![]()
11/19/2009
- Updated Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 14.0.11.2.
As for the HP Tone Control Utility, I guess I will be putting that up soon...any one else who says otherwise?
-
Hey I just joined this forum because this posting is very informative about the hp hdx 16 so i figured i join so i can ask my question. here it goes. I have an env 2 through Verizon and when i was running one of the beta versions of w7 i could do everything with my phone i wanted to but now that I have the full version it says im missing a driver and it wont let me do crap with me phone. Im trying to connect it through blue-tooth and it says that it is missing the driver called a blue-tooth peripheral driver. can anyone help me fix this? I just really want it to work. thanks for the help in advance
-
I noticed this too.
I have to tell you guys, I had this HUGE problem that while typing my cursor would jump all over the place and next thing I'd know I would be typing 3 sentences above where I should have been.
Anyway, the problem was the latest Synaptics TouchPd Driver (not the one just released). So I went back to a previous version (14.0.3.0 I think) and everything was fixed.
I can't tell you how frustrating that problem was. But now it's fixed. I don't think I'll be updating my Synaptics driver today. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
If anyway is having similar issues to what I had w/ the cursor jumping around while you type, it's all documented here and the fix as well! -
Updated the original post to reflect the new Realtek driver releases.

- Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 7.009 for Windows 7.

For the Intel Chipset Device Driver it says "To ensure that all device drivers are updated, extract the package and execute the Setup.exe file using the -overall parameter." what does it mean by using the "-overall" parameter?
-
It means that you have to unpack the package in a folder (e.g. c:\intelchipset\), then from a command prompt you have to execute the command "c:\intelchipset\setup.exe -overall".
-
Won't just running HP's sp40663.exe do the job?
-
Hey gang!
This thread has been an incredible resource! So much so I took the time to register to say "THANK YOU" for all of your help and time compiling the drivers and information!
Now for my question:
I got my fingerprint scanner working on bootup, but still shows as 'Fingerprint Reader is not connected' when I try to use the utility once booted up and running...latest drivers and software from the front page. [EDIT: I would like to use the fingerprint software for passwords on websites, etc.]
I've done the 'Remove Drivers' thing and reinstalled from scratch, but still no love.
Any suggestions?
[EDIT: I have read the ENTIRE thread, and tried all things mentioned within. This is how I got fingerprint reader working during bootup.]
Thanks in advance for the input, and thanks again for the resource!

No -- the Softpaq does not execute the setup file using the -overall parameter. See ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40663.cva for how the setup file is executed.
Plus, this Softpaq is outdated.
-
Nope...running it in that way will not run the setup with the -overall parametere like we suggested to do.
-
Fred,
you didn't tell us which drivers you tried to install to make the fingerprint scanner work.
This is what I would do:
1. Install Validity Fingerprint Reader driver v2.1.0.2 ( ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44993.exe)
2. Check in device manager, under the Biometric Devices section, it the scanner entry is present, it should appear as Validity Sensor, check properties and make sure the driver version is v2.1.0.2.
2. Install DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Reader Software v4.11.3805: http://d11tvxmfjhi64o.cloudfront.net/X86/Setup.exe (x86 version) or http://d11tvxmfjhi64o.cloudfront.net/X64/Setup.exe (x64 version)
Let us know...
-
Apologies, I should know better.
Validity Fingerprint Reader Driver (currently installed): 3.1.3.31 (5/31/09)
DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Reader Software (currently installed): v4.11.3805
I will uninstall the current driver, and reinstall with the ones posted above and report back.
Thanks,
Fred -
3.1.3.31 should be the package version, you should check the driver version from device manager.
The new version (sp44993) is 3.1.366 (package) and 2.1.0.2 (driver).
BTW: I think that the Digital Persona software package also installs the latest Validity driver, so probably you could simply uninstall your current Validity driver and install Digital Persona.
Let me know how it goes... -
So far, same problem. Works fine for logging into Windows, but does not recognize the reader once inside windows.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance. -
anybody else getting an error message when trying to install the latest video drivers on their dv8? I get an error message stating that the nvidia installer didn't find any compatiable hardware. i downloaded the correct one for my windows 7, 64-bit system.
-
Thanks to Wanderermy and jondm1 for notifying me about this particular update.

- Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.8.1.
-
Thanks a lot for the update. The dvd ejekt button is still not working. Is there a solution for this problem?
-
Another question:
I'm having issues with my video drivers 'crashing and recovering' every so often. I've tried updating the video drivers (posted here) and I get the following error message upon installing:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
According to PC wizard, here is my video card hardware:
General Information :
Manufacturer : Nvidia
Model : NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M
Bus Type : PCI-Express
Processor : GeForce GT 230M
Converter : Integrated RAMDAC
Refresh Rate (min/max) : 59/59 Hz
GPU Information :
Number of GPU : 1
Processor : GA5
Revision : A2
Bus : 128-bit
Memory Type : 1 MB DDR2
Pixel Shader Version : 3.0
Video Bios Information :
Date : 08/20/09
Version : Version 70.16.25.00.17
Forceware : 8.15.11.8644
It also says my card is NOT CUDA capable, even though the NVIDIA label on the PC itself says its a GEFORCE with CUDA.
Any thoughts?
I've done the usual -uninstall all drivers, reboot, download new drivers from HP, reboot, uninstall those, installed drivers from NVIDIA, etc.
Thanks for the help.
Fred -
I've been getting this non-stop with every NVidia driver and after the sequential application of every hint and tip I can find here and via Google.
Right now I'm using the latest beta driver from NVidia.
Sometimes when I boot and log in Windows freezes at the desktop and requires a cold reboot.
Sometimes when I boot and log in I get a wildly flickering screen that doesn't stop until I do a cold boot.
Sometimes when I boot and log in I get a short freeze, black-out, redisplay of the desktop, the dialog that the display driver has crashed and been restarted, and then no further problems for the rest of the session no matter how many hours or days it goes on.
I never get a freeze prior to login, even if I leave the system post-boot at the initial Windows login prompt.
Sometimes after a cold-boot, I will get non-stop repeated freezes until I boot into safe mode, log in , and reboot into standard Windows.
I have tried different things (booting with no USB devices connected, installing the new Synaptics driver) and believed I had solved it, but apparently only had achieved random success because the problem has never been absent for more than 3 boots in a row. -
Installed Intel Chipset Driver 9.1.1.1020 by first unpacking and then running the download exe file with the -overall parameter (there is definitely no setup.exe unpacked when just unpacking by the way), and on reboot Windows displayed the System Repair / Restore screen and stated that Windows could not boot. I restored the most recent Restore Point and when done, it said it failed. I restored the next most recent Restore Point and when done, it said it failed. I restored the next next most recent Restore Point and when done, it said it failed. This time I ignored that and rebooted, and it booted into Windows.
Amazingly, I tried it all again, with the same results.
Either this driver is bad or there is a signifcant step missing from the instructions, or both.
PS: It also seemed to be unnecessary to first unpack since when running with the -overall parameter it still unpacked first. -
Really strange: the intel chipset driver is just a bunch of .inf files whose only need is updating the description of the devices. I don't see how it would affect/damage the boot of the OS.
-
Ok this is how it works - if you download it from the HP website it will be packed in a "Softpaq". This needs to be extracted and then the setup file needs to be run with the -overall parameter. At the moment however, the latest download is on the intel website. This means you can just simply download the file and run it with the -overall parameter.

I've found a tonecontrol app that works for me (the one on HP's site gave me a garbed/messed up display). See thread on HP support forum - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board...thread.id=22986&view=by_date_ascending&page=3 - the direct link for tonecontrol is http://h.imagehost.org/download/0495/HPToneControl. First things first, credit to whiteboyshady, secondly, remember to uninstall tonecontrol first (if already installed), then install the tonecontrol and restart. This worked for me with hdx16 windows 7 x64.

I have am 230m and in gpu-z i only get PhysX with cat 186.00 , but with cat 195.55 , I get PhysX , CUDA and DirectCompute 4.1 the only one that is un-ticked it OpenCl.
-
so any idea why I am getting the install error I listed earlier???

download an install driver sweeper
Download Nvidia video driver 195.55 64bit if you are using it.
1: un-install Nvidia drivers in control panel, do not re-boot.
2: run driver sweeper as administrator , and remove all Nvidia software and re-boot.
3: let windows install it`s own video driver , should be standard vga driver.
4: install Nvidia 195.55 driver and re-boot all done. -
We already discussed this issue in the past, Tone Control utility is not needed (it just handles basse & treble sliders), if you want all the keys working there are several things to do, there's a nice guide here:
http://www.hphdx.net/Forum/tabid/55/forumid/8/threadid/2092/scope/posts/threadpage/1/Default.aspx -
This process does not work with the DV8 for some reason. When trying to install 195.55 drivers from the exe file it states it can not find the correct hardware for these drivers.
Even when attempting to manually install this driver it states it is not compatible with the operating system.
I would sure like to figure out why i can't install the latest drivers from Nvidia, i never had this issue with the HDX18. -
Justin,
could you add the HP Support Assistant to the list?
Here's the links for the latest version (HP Support Assistant v4.2.8.3):

*Use this procedure at your own risk*
I may have come up with a solution for us folks that are having issues with installing the latest drivers for the 230m GPU's on our DV8's. This has worked for me and the driver seems to be stable for now. Please note you will need to modify a .inf file so this driver will install.
After you have downloaded the driver for your system Driver for x64 you will need to run it (the installation will more than likely fail at this point) but will have extracted the files to the following folder:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\195.55\WinVista_Win7_64\International
In this folder you will see a file named nvam.inf. You will need to open this file in notepad and locate these two entries:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section065, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043
%NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043
You will need to put the entry - 7001103C in where the 20311043 is in both entrys and save the file.
(example: %NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_7001103C)
From there run the setup file located in this folder and all should install fine. Hope this helps the ones having issues with their video drivers. -
Ok, but I am happy with how my PC works now. I want the OSD and the blue/black one suits me. Just posted the link in case anyone else feels the same....
-
There is actually a newer version available here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46115.exe -
Thanks Danny...

I'm having D/C issue with Wifi 5100 driver with v13.x o Windows 7 64bit.. it was horrible dropping connection.

That was quick -- another update to the HP Quick Launch Buttons now available. It's an important update, as it fixes several bugs that some users may be experiencing.
12/01/2009
- Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.9.1.
Also, I will be adding the Tone Control Utility and HP Support Assistant soon. Both are not required, and I will probably designate them as not required when I do put them up on the original post.

I dont understand the text below , it talk`s about the volume display and then it mention Fn+F8 which is screen brightness adjust , but even after the update there is still no on-screen screen brightness level display.
"Fixes an issue, which occurs on notebooks with an Intel processor that are running a Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System, where the on-screen display for volume does not match the action when pressing the Mute button or the Fn+F8 keys." -
Fn+F8 is Mute on my Mini 5101
It's brightness control on my 8510w. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
You got me worried for a moment there , I thought the update might have change my F8 to a mute instead of brightness up, but it still works fine.
-
Quick question; do these drivers work for the older DV7? Meaning not the ones that have a Core i7, but instead, a Core 2 Quad?
Okay, I know the video card isn't an nvidia one, but what about everything else~ Or is there a separate driver thread for the dv7t? -
My theory is that the installer trashed the registry.
-
Windows 7 installs an Nvidia driver immediately, negating all the effort to first delete Nvidia drivers.

How do I "run as administrator"? I'm the only person that uses my computer or that has a user account, and when I look at the user account control panel, it shows that I'm an administrator, but sometimes I get get a message saying that I need "permissions" to make certain changes. I'm not logged in as a "guest". How do I get my PC to allow me to run as administrator?
Thanks! -
Never mind: found the answer.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html -
Right click a program shortcut and choose "run as administrator".
In the case of programs run from the command window, you first start the command window with "run as admin" and then everything inside it will follow. -
Self-Bump.
I STILL cannot get the fingerprint reader working once booted into Win7. Works fine for login, but gives me the 'Reader Not Detected' error message.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Fred -
Thank you! The link that I found apparently doesn't work for Windows 7 Home Premium.
-
Did you install DigitalPersona as well.
Read this for help. -
I have a HDX16 and I can't use the driver software listed here. I have to use sp41660.exe (the original vista driver). If I use the newer driver I get the 'reader not detected' issue. (link here ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41660.exe)
