Did you download the Intel Chipset Device software from the first page of this thread? It's the first one (v9.1.1.1025). Make sure to follow the instructions provided in the table (-overall parameter).
Let me know how it goes...![]()

The chipset driver installed fine, but I can't seem to get the "Intel Management Engine Interface Driver 6.0.0.1179 A" or "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver 1.0.0.1030 A" from the official hp driver site to install.

a question to HDX 16 Users (my one is hdx 16 1010ea)
i just installed the Rapid Storage Technology thing and i am noticing some faster disc management at least the reading is better i can feel it ... the software made me a bit curious so i checked its main application, and i see that it's detecting 4 inputs, and in my knowledge i have only 3, the SATA for the HDD, the SATA for the Optical Drive, and an eSata which is detected as a External Port 5, and the last one is Internal Port 4??? whats going on here, i know that HDX 18 can have two discs, i havent seen enough space on the HDX 16 for another drive?
here's a view:
if there's another input then im on my way to get an SSD, i always dreamed to dual boot safely with windows and OS X 8) -
I think that although these internal ports may exist, it is probably impossible to attach anything to them unfortunately given the expandability limits of the notebooks.
Also, please don't mention your intention to install Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware -- sorry, the action is not only against Apple's EULA, but it is also bordering on the violation of forum rules.
On a happier note, does everyone think I should still add the HP Tone Control Utility and HP Support Assistant? The Intel Turbo Boost driver will be going up for the Quad Edition users. NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M support will also arrive when a driver is released.
And the countdown begins to 100,000 views...

Now this is weird, i just happen to be at HP official driver/software update site for my laptop model and i see them adding this new software in the category called Motorola SoftStylus. It is not even installed on my laptop, not sure what made them bring this on there.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=4063&product=4043738
PS: SoftStylus is a hand-writing recognition software, Improves hand-writing responsiveness when the software is used under Windows 7. -
Yes to the HP Tone Control. With this Tool only worked the Bass/Treble Touch keys on my HDX16 with Win7 x64.
I think the HP Support Asisstent is not really necessary, unless you want the battery check again
Sorry, when the English is not so good...I´m from Germany
Thanks for this great Thread

Hello! I have found this thread tremendously helpful and I commend you for all your hard work.
I just contacted HP Support about all of the Quick Buttons and volume control issues that were brought about by the latest drivers. Tell me if you can think of anything else that I should mention.
My e-mail:
"Hello. I just want to let you know that the latest Windows 7 drivers for the HP Quick Launch Buttons (6.50.12.1), HP MediaSmart DVD (3.1), and/or HP Tone Control (2.00A) have bugs in them. Several people on this forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164), including myself, have experienced issues using these drivers. Some people have problems with their mute button lighting up properly. Some people (myself included) cannot use any of the DVD player controls. Almost everybody who installs the Tone Control Utility just gets on-screen vertical lines instead of text when moving the bass/treble slider. Finally, whenever you adjust the sound levels while playing a game (or something similar), the program or game minimizes, causing much inconvenience. It has been several months since Windows 7 was released, and we would like fully working drivers. Please forward this message on to the programmers of the HP drivers mentioned above so these issues can be fixed." -
@Koomazaz: The message sounds fine, but I guess it's not up to me to decide whether it is accurate of if anything else should be mentioned since I don't actually have any of these notebooks -- what does everyone else think? (I'm especially looking at you rageman and Axel
)
On a side note: I'm a little afraid that by mentioning this driver thread, HP may even take action against this valuable resource.
Now that would be unfair.
-
They can't shut down the thread.
-
Oh dang... That didn't even cross my mind. Surely they won't shut it down. There's nothing wrong with what you've done here.
-
I have just installed the intel driver for turbo boost technology, under the device manager it shows that the driver cannot be started.
Device status:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I thought this driver is suppose to be for i7 processors management? -
I'm pretty sure HP can't do much about it; however, I couldn't help but mention it -- after all, I'm trying to help their customers out in a sense. It's just that I hope they don't see my threads as a "threat" to their own driver system. The most that HP can do is advise that the drivers listed here are unsupported from their recommended configuration, and that you just have to install at your own risk -- that's all.
I wonder -- is there like a Turbo Boost option in the BIOS? If so, enable that. Also try rebooting your computer after the driver installation if you haven't done so. Turbo Boost Technology is something I don't have, so I'm not completely sure if I can assist with confidence.
-
anyone have luck with the OSD and wifi turning on and off on a windows 7hdx18
Thanks -
Well in BIOS there is no such options as you know the bios is pretty much limited when it comes to changes.
Yes i had tried rebooting it but what so ever it didn't work. Just wondering what this driver is for exactly now.
Thanks anyways. -
What an excellent couple of threads here Justin. Respect.
Hey, I haven't been around in a while, but alot of the drivers you are posting are indeed by their own readme are XP compatible. If you could include that in OS support it would be cool of you. Just an idea. -
Justin,
if I were HP's Support Director I would hire us.
Jokes apart, I don't think they can do anything, we're just helping customers that HP is not able to support correctly, their drivers page are a complete mess, they don't get updated etc.
Their support forums are a little bit better, but it's a mess looking around there.
They should put a sticky there that points to this thread.
-
remember support is not their primary concern.
removing liability is their primary concern, support is a distant second.
that's why we have 0 adjustment bios. for example.

Hi guys,
I've been trying to figure out why the Tone Treble and Bass bar display is so messed up?
The volume bar looks beautiful.
Installed:
- HP MediaSmart MVP
- HP MediaSmart Smartmenu
- HP Tone Control
- HP QuickLaunch
- HP MediaSmart DVD...
am I missing something or the skin is messed up? -
Same thing here. dv6-2090eo with i7, win7 home premium 64bit. -
Latest Bluetooth drivers wont install on dv6? Device id matches tho.. Any ideas?
-
Nevemind, it was the HP Tone Control v2 isn't compatible with HDX series.
Here is the fixed of the HP Tone Control x86 / x64 included: http://www.mediafire.com/file/jx4zmhmmjkj/HPToneControl.rar
Yes this is working!
-
Hi, ive had a look through most of this thread and it's brilliant, just got a DV8 and having problems the Bass/Treble on screen display. Has anyone been able to get rid of this. I did update the driver and it went from being a problem where i could see the Bass/Trble wording to the same problem but without being able to read Bass/Treble,
Thanks,
neil -
First of all, let me thank you for putting together such an xcellent collection of drivers!
Let me note that the HDX 18 volume settings/mute buttons work fine with the linked drivers, however, if you are watching a movie in full screen mode, then you change volume with the IR remote control then it turns of full screen mode. This happens every single time.
The biggest problem with this that you cannot switch back to full screen mode with the remote, so you have to go to the notebook and do that manually.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit on HP HDX 18 1200EO. Let me know if you know of any solution.
Another question: is there any way to customize what each button on HP remote control does?
Thanks for the help in advance! -
Can you try the link from my last post?
-
tried that and it states that a newer version is already installed. Can you please explain you solution a bit more. did you have to unistall the newer version first?
Thank you in advance -
Yes, you will need to uninstall the new version. HP f*** up the new version.
Older version works 100%, the new one can only raise your bass or treble up to +2... which is totally bugged. -
Is HP Tone Control compatible with dv6 ? (I doubt)
In case YES, which keys to use it with as we only have volume slider
-
Tried and actually made it worse, got rid of the unreadable tone bar problem but now there are 2 tone bars. 1 which looks like the above, nice and pretty and another black one which has all three volume bass and treble in one display, both were going mad so i've uninstalled the touch program,
any other ideas?
thanks for the help.
Neil -
Yes i know why lol install all lastest driver of smartmenu except tone control . You cannot have the old 3 bar OSD with the ton control driver...
You got to listen up, you have to uninstall old one before new one -
Has anyone had luck installing Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver on dv6? Or is it incompatible? Should i uninstall that driver? It has a yellow exlamation mark on it in device manager and a message: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
There is no option in bios to enable/disable Turbo Boost, but i think it's enabled anyway... -
I'm trying to install intel turbo boost technology driver on my dv8t and it tells me that "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software". Does anyone else get this error? I've upgraded my intel chipset driver using the "-overall" parameter but still get this error.
-
No recent updates for dv6t quad ey?
-
found this thread because i have the same problem. hardware id: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4357&SUBSYS_145E103C&REV_01
tried every single wireless driver on the hp site. I even contacted hp for the drivers and they pointed me to the intel wifilink 5100 drivers [but those didnt work either]
any luck with you?
my laptop: DV7-3178CA -
If you look a few posts after mine the question was answered. You may have to simply extract the driver from the link and point the windows driver search utility at it, that's what I had to do.
-
Having the same problem as bluezeno with the turbo boost driver, have also used the overall parameter with no luck. I'm on a dv6t.
-
@aletaziar, bluezeno - had the same problem (min. req. not met) on Envy 15 after uninstalling device and deleting driver. Rebooted and then ran turbo boost exe again with -overall method, error free but after install (and reboot) still displays code 10 cannot start error ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5785428&postcount=40).
-
I tried your solution with an unistall and reinstall of the older software. New problem as I get 2 different OSD's popping up. seems to be the old style where all 3 controls of volume/base/treble on one pop up and a second one where its just the one level item OSD. Both appear at the same time
Also on another note, has anyone heard of IDT software crashing the FLASH plug in on chrome/firefox/IE?
Thank you in advance, -
Turbo Boost should work on dv6-2120tx. Just wondering what's the difference between that machine and my dv-2090eo... Here's link to HP site.

My busy schedule has led me to be a bit slow with the updates, but here are some changes that I made to the original post:
01/29/2010
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio driver to version 6.10.6255.0.
- Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 6.230 for Windows Vista.
I am aware that there are many users who are having problems with the Intel Turbo Boost driver even though the notebooks should be compatible with it. Right now I'm not really sure why the problems are happening; if you are having problems with this driver, I suggest you uninstall it and wait for the next release. Hopefully these issues will be fixed by then. -
After close to a dozen e-mails back and forth, I thought I'd share this last one with you guys. This is with regards to the several issues Windows 7 users have been having with the touch control panel (above the keyboard), including the eject button not working, the volume control bar minimizing full-screen applications, and the Tone Control Utility having those ugly vertical bars rather than text displayed.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
As you informed us before about this issue we have searched for it and found that it is common after upgrading to windows 7 so we have forwarded it to higher level and our team is working on it for solution and I assure you that this issue will be resolved soon and you will start enjoying your notebook once again.
I truly regret for the inconvenience caused to you.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

has anyone been able to enable multi touch on the dv6t touchpad? i uninstalled the original driver and installed that one modded asus synaptics driver, but I do not see multi touch capabilities in the options.
-
Latest IDT Audio driver is not compatible with dv6. At least not with mine. Installed it and all sounds were completely gone. It installed ok and device manager showed it was ok, but no sound. Spotify showed message: There is problem with your audio device. Rolled back to previous driver
Latest Bluetooth driver doesn't seem to be compatible with my machine either.
-
Just did a complete re-install. Tried installing the Turbo Boost driver and its showing the same error. Anyone else have any luck?
-
What about the driver for the GeForce 320M? 230M doesn't come with the DV7T...
-
A GeForce GT 320M driver hasn't been released yet (either by HP or NVIDIA) -- until it is released, check back soon.
-
So then I'm assuming I would use the 230M driver?
-
Unfortunately no -- the INF for the current driver does not have an entry for the GeForce GT 320M so as of now you'll just have to wait. If you try to install the current driver that is posted, the setup package will tell you that it is not compatible and will exit.
Be patient -- when I see one available, I'll be posting it up ASAP.
-
Same here with my DV6 .. although previous versions were 100% compatible. My last IDT Audio driver version is :6.10.6249.0 confused:
Same here too ... -
That makes no sense...if the card is being offered in HP notebooks...there has to be a driver for it, it's not just using a generic windows driver. In fact, the 230 driver is listed on HP's driver page for the 320m card under my notebook's product number fyi.
-
What is the Hardware ID of your IDT audio device? You can find this information in the Device Manager, under the device's Details tab and by selecting the Hardware IDs property.
