The latest IDT audio driver broke the entire driver set for audio for me yesterday, I ended up having to go in and remove them manually before anything started working; even kept windows from booting correctly![]()
Then again, I'm having issues with my laptop not turning the display on from sleep, external monitors work fine, but the main one refuses to turn on from sleep. I'm looking into it now actually.
-
Yeah, I can't seem to figure this one out. I've tried changing all my settings everywhere. No luck. I am downloading the latest IDT driver, I'll give that a go, although I hate to do that since I am pretty sure it will disable my On-Screen Display for my Volume/Bass/Treble Controls.
Anybody experience this or have any idea what it may be?
Thanks! -
Okay, update. Just tried installing the newest IDT Driver and it completely failed and no it says I have no Audio Devices! lol
Going to try the previous version. That was good that you keep the pervious versions in your table Justin! -
Okay, I got the new IDT driver to work, just had to try it again.
Now I am still having the problem that when I have my headphones plugged in the sound comes through the speakers and the headphones. Anybody else have this issue?
And also here is why I haven't been around in a long time!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I just went through hell and back w/ HP. They said my computer was useless and wanted to charge me $1,100 to fix it.
Here is the thread about all that...
http://www.hphdx.net/Forum/tabid/55/forumid/10/threadid/3478/scope/posts/Default.aspx
And anyway, it all of a sudden works now!! WOO-HOO!!! Here's the thread about that!!!!
http://www.hphdx.net/Forum/tabid/55/forumid/65/postid/3636/scope/posts/Default.aspx#3636 -
I ended up disabling the Independent Dual Headphones output because I've never actually seen it do anything besides confuse a lot of programs, and both headphone outs work fine.
-
OP, MAJOR props to you. I just got done installing my new SSD, my factory install discs were worthless because the new drive was smaller, and the fingerprint software was missing from the HP drivers page. Finding a link here through "da google" has really made my day.
Not only is the first post so very well done... you updated while I was downloading, and I found what you updated in your edit log--top notch work! -
@mokofoko: Yup, I was updating as you were looking at the first post. As you can tell by the recent edits, I update a lot.
And thanks for the positive feedback!
@rageman: Glad you got the IDT audio driver working rageman, but...an even newer version is already out and up on the original post!
Hopefully this will fix some of the compatibility issues users have had with version 6255.
I've listed the most recent updates below:
01/29/2010
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio driver to version 6.10.6255.0.
- Updated Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller driver to version 6.230 for Windows Vista.
01/31/2010
- Merged HP MediaSmart products into one table.
02/02/2010
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio driver to version 6.10.6263.0 (thanks lovegl).

Justin, fantastic posts, saying thanks doesn't express what I mean!
I only have one problem with my HP HDX 18 1200EO, it's the bluetooth. In the list of devices it shows a yellow exclamation mark next to the Standard Modem over Bluetooth link . It offers to look for fixes automatically, says that driver has to be reinstalled, but when it reinstalls it, the problem still remains.
And it's strange, as the bluetooth works fine - I'm using a bluetooth mouse as we speak. BUT, although I can pair my Sony Ericsson K770 phone with the notebook, and I can browse files, I cannot get other programs (namely, MOBILedit!) to detect the phone, all refer to the same driver problem.
And this didn't use to be a problem with Windows Vista - I hated that OP system, Windows 7 is much better but still, I can't synchronize my phone items with the computer because of this. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and have the drivers installed that's linked on the first page.
Anyone else has this problem? If you wanna give it a try, try downloading MOBILedit! - its an awesome phone backup utility - and see if it works for you.
And updated bluetooth drivers or alternative drivers would be much apprecaited.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance!
-
I installed the latest IDT audio drivers, without uninstalling anything, rebooted and everything worked as expected, also treble/bass/volume keys and gui continue to work perfectly.
I thought to post this for users who were uncertain about upgrading the driver.
Thanks for the update justin.
-
does the new IDT audio driver work on HDX 18t-1100
-
Yes, if it has the IDT audio hardware.
-
I give up on these new drivers. I don't know what the hell is wrong w/ my computer. Still getting the music going through the speakers and headphones at the same time.
Just tried the new IDT driver and keeps failing saying I don't have the hardware to support it or something.
Very very annoyed right now. -
Did you try disabling one of the outputs?
-
No. How are you doing that?
-
Time to document my horrible experience (for any fellow DV8t owners who are doing a clean install):
I tried installing the drivers off the official HP Support site, experienced multiple issues, and came here. I tried uninstalling all and using the drivers in post#1--big mistake--GPU performance took a dive, mute button was locked red, DigitalPersona Fingerprint software wouldn't recognize the drivers, Treble/Bass display was bugged, etc.
I eventually settled for pulling the software setup folders off my previous drive, and uninstalling/reinstalling using the stock drivers.
I cleared up the stuck mute volume light by replacing the newest IDT Audio driver with the stock IDT. Reinstalled with the stock WLAN drivers, and wireless is stable now. The Support Assistant (update feature) DOES NOT install properly from the stock drivers--the drivers on the HP site worked. Once the Update feature is working, install the stock ToneControl drivers (latest versions displayed buggy treble/bass)--display will show SLIGHTLY bugged treble/bass onscreen, but the update feature will switch you to the newest version which is perfect. Some of the SmartMenu and DVD SmartMedia software had to be installed to enable onscreen display of the top-row buttons--be sure not to use the stock software in this case, as you will error out. DigitalPersona was the big issue; NONE of the software in the first post allows it to detect the scanner driver or update its version. Using the stock DigitalPersona software (version 4.10.x) allowed it to update to the newest version which DOES work. Keep in mind DigitalPersona (in any shape/form) will NOT detect the newest Validity driver--you need to use the stock Validity driver for it to work. Benchmarked GPU performance also suffered after my reinstall, and I found that the most recent Chipset drivers and Matrix Storage drivers were to blame--installing stock drivers increased performance. The last issue for me is an non-functional eject button which I could not resolve.
OP, definitely appreciate the accumulation of software, but in the case of DV8t users, it may only serve to steer them in the wrong direction. It may do some good to place a small note in the post that an alternative (should the newest software cause numerous issues) would be to install the stock drivers off the factory recovery discs. In my experience today, better to stay behind and let the HP monkeys slowly sort it out. 80% of my drivers/software are stock at this point, and everything besides the ejection key works as it should.
Hopefully some others will benefit from the hours I spent sorting through this mess. One thing is for sure--I'm very disappointed in how slow HP has been in providing us adequate support. -
i have a problem
i got a dv8 1010el withwindows 7 in italian... i formated allthe partitions did the fresh english install put all the driver and i observed a problem my fans will not stop ventilating.... the laptop is putting out cold air.... what can it be ?
i searched the net and 1 of the problems could be the bios that i updated F.15 E
can i downgrade it? or what can i do? pls help
Thanks from Dracula Land!
)
-
It's that buggy f.15e bios. Restart your laptop, hit enter and then enter bios. Reload bios defaults and save/restore. For good measure, go back in and turn off the "fan on always" option. That's what did it for me--found the solution in the DV8 owners thread somewhere back in December... I think.
-
thanks man
it was getting preatty cold in my room
)
now its silent like a baby
and sorry about ur noteboot mine wortk fine... except the fan problem that now its solved
Thanks AGAIN ! -
As a DV8t owner, be sure to check out the dv8 owners thread. Lots of useful info for you over there.
-
You can open up the sound control panel and right click on the devices shown, and hit disable. If you want to see the disabled ones, right click in the empty space and you'll get another menu.
I disabled everything besides the Speakers and Headphones one, but you should have 4 total devices, Speakers and Headphones, Dual Independent Headphones, HDMI and S/PDIF -
That's a good suggestion -- I should probably say something on the original post along the lines that "if all else fails or if problems become serious enough, simply revert back to the pre-installed factory drivers and if you want to, try updates again" sort of thing. It doesn't hurt to mention this, so I'll likely put this up the next time I update.
I also agree that HP has been pretty slow with keeping users up to date. Remember, HP only updates when they are liable for a problem (and even then it may take them a while to release the updates).
Speaking of updates, I made a quick change.

- Updated JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver to version 1.0.37.3.

Anyone has any ideas please for this problem detailed in this post? :rolleyes2:

i have a hdx 16 1370us and i have the same problem with bass and treble bug.
-
This and the eject button are two issues that I have contacted HP directly about and they said that higher level support is looking into them.
Hopefully new drivers soon! -

Tone Control is not required to fix the treble/bass issue. The gui of this program is actually horrible in my opinion.
In order to make it work without it you can follow this guide:
http://www.hphdx.net/Forum/tabid/55/forumid/8/threadid/2092/scope/posts/Default.aspx -
Yeah, I guess something is wrong then. It won't let me do anything to the headphones. It's all greyed out. Here's what it looks like as I have my headphones plugged in. The music is coming out of the headphones and laptop speakers no matter which two of the headphone ports I plug the headphones into!
I just bought a copy of W7 Upgrade from college today. I think I am going to do that tonight. Man I hope I don't have any issues!!
-
Hello,
Please install the latest version of MediaSmart menu program for the bug with Tone control. THis has been reported as a fix. -
Just use the drivers from the thread (make sure you get them all) and go from there.
If you have 2 hard drives in yours, you might want to consider installing it to the 2nd drive, and not the first, the drive itself won't run as hot under normal use since its not sitting by the GPU (I only know this from cracking mine open). -
Just got done upgrading to W7. It took FOREVER! But it was worth it. Everything seems to be working perfectly so far. And everything is so much faster. Totally worth at this point.
Still having the sound coming through both the headphones and the speakers issue. Updated to newest IDT still didn't help. I am begging to think it's a hardware issue. -
Hm.
Try disabling all of the output devices first, and then enable just one, and see what that does. -
Yeah, just tried that. No workey!! Not sure what's going on. I do now have the option to disable the Headphones, where before the W7 Upgrade it was grayed out.
But still isn't recognizing my headphones are plugged in even though I am getting sound out of them. There also is a hum or buzzing sound that I notice on in the headphones when no music is playing. -
I have the same thing. Do you also have a high pitched noise from the headphones when Excel is maximized? If you then reduce the window size, the noise becomes less. The same when i have firefox with wikipedia opened.
The hum and buzzing i reduced by fittling with the power cord. If it is in the socket completely straight, the noise is less then when it hangs in the socket -
No, not really those problems. But the headphones will play at the same time as the laptop speakers and I can't figure out how to fix that!!!
Also, the USB connector next to the headphones jacks only works like 20% of the time now. -
UPDATE - 1.5.10
Got it fixed!! If I apply pressure to the top around where the finger reader is the headphones are detected and only come out of the headphones. If I apply pressure from the bottom as you do when you pick up the laptop sound issue comes back. So this is still problematic, but at least I can live with it.
So this for sure sounds like a connection issue. And since when HP had my laptop for repair they broke off the F3 key and did not connect the keyboard back in properly (I had to open it up and secure the keyboard ribbon to the system board), who's willing to bet that they somehow caused this connection issue w/ the headphone and USB port??? I'd put $$ on it.
But I am just happy everything is working right now. It could be a lot worse! **jumps back on HP Fan Bandwagon** -
Guys I was pretty wrong about this application, it is infact very cool one.
You can use your TouchPad to type letters on MS Word or notepad.
-
Modified the below post, I've found out that the below is called in English versions of Windows: Standard Modem over Bluetooth link.
Let me know if anyone can help.

Re: Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SATA AHCI)
I had this installed but it disappeared after updated to Window 7. I had a terrible time installing it as it was under a different four digit number in the SWSETUP folder, but I did it.
On reboot I got the blue screen of death and a memory dump created.
I rebooted successsfully, and all seemed well.
However, when I click on HP 3D DriveGuard in Control Panel, down where it says drive is supported, here is only ONE image of a disk drive. I have two hard drives, and I am sure that previously it showed a picture of two.
Do I have a problem and what should I do?
I understand that we can't set up a RAID array on this laptop but I like being able to go to the storage manager console and see that my drives are o.k. It was on the first HDX18 I purchased and later returned. Then it was not on the second until it came back from repair and re-imaging where it suddenly appeared. So I saw no reason not to install the version on this site.
P. S. Just looked at my older HDX18, currently running Vista, which has the older version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology, known then as Intel Matrix Storage Manager. ProtectSmart Hard Drive definitelys hows two hard drives. -
Just installed the newest IDT Audio .6263, I have an HDX18T /w Win7...it does not work for me. Equalizer is missing, audio does not play, only Windows sounds work, cannot change sample rates, etc.

Notice to HP dv8 users:
Due to issues that have been identified with the dv8 BIOS releases, HP has pulled down ALL current and previous BIOS releases pertaining to this model. Hopefully a new BIOS image will be released soon addressing the problems.
So in the meantime, sit tight.
-
finally some progress !
offtopic: justinkw1 where did u get that signature?
the one with the computer info
-
@justinkw1,
Wow!!! It's about time that HP noticed the problem. People who had their DV8 bricked, should get something as payback for their inconvenience or at the very least some apology from some suit!!!
Rumor has it that Quanta, laptop OEM issued the bios and HP just posted them without testing.
-
Well this isn't the first time someone had asked a question about my sig.
Actually I created it myself using Photoshop. The background that you see is actually a little piece of one of HP's wallpapers. (For those of you who have known me for a while, I've been through about four or five different sigs since.)

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 on my HDX16 and I am experiencing the black screen of death after login. Are there any HP related programs or drivers that causes this?
-
Has anybody successfully installed the Turbo Boost drivers? Cant seen to install them.
-
No luck here either. Are there certain driver versions that must be installed in a certain order to active this feature. And did I read it shows up in the BIOS? Mine shows BIOS F-13 - is that the same as 13A?
-
For those of you with IDT Audio on an HDX18t Win7 Ultimate x64:
IDT Audio Driver 6242 updated via Windows Driver version seems to work best. (Last one that works correctly for me at least) I say correctly because it's got a slight bug that allows me to do something IDT STUPIDLY did not think about...Dolby Sound Space Enhancer. IDT never thought about the simple idea that maybe people would want to use speakers instead of headphones and have the Dolby ability (because Dolby headphone sounds like utter garbage on speakers). I have the 2-speaker Bose system and it sounds amazing now. If I'm watching Blu Ray I can enable Sound Space and it sounds near true surround sound. The only trick with Natural Bass is upon reboot, keep your speakers unplugged, uncheck natural bass, plug them in, then recheck...otherwise it doesn't actually enhance bass. Any newer version will enable headphone when you plug something in....something with this and the driver right before it keep it in speaker mode with something plugged into the jack, which is great for me. Figured I'd post this for those interested in this.
The only issue I notice is what I always have with all previous versions...the magical time-to-time insane memory hole error where the IDT Audio starts using 100megs or so instead of only a few... -
Happened to me... with any BIOS update you should always enter the BIOS and reset to defaults, save and exit. -
Even though it's my birthday today, I'm still hard at work finding new drivers around the Internet for you guys.
Please note that this new Realtek Ethernet driver does NOT originate from Realtek, but from ASUS (which is rather surprising). See the Important Information section for this component on how you should proceed to install these drivers, since packages from ASUS are set up differently.

- Updated LightScribe System Software to version 1.18.11.1.
