Actually I pressed the disk icon and HP 3D Driveguard popped up, on the about screen it says v4.0.4.1.

So, this means that 3D DriveGuard and the driver I posted from MS Update (HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor) are not the same thing:

    - the former is a control panel utility plus the accelerometer driver
    - the latter is just the accelerometer driver

So, for full management functionality, you still need to install 3D DriveGuard (latest is v4.0.4.1) and then update the accelerometer driver (HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor) to v4.0.10.1.

    That's why Blaze-Senpai couldn't disable it. ;)

Justin, could you please update the table accordingly, specifying to download and install both files? Thanks.

I think that at the next update of 3D DriveGuard, the softpaq will also contain the latest accelerometer driver, so the second file won't be necessary...let's wait and see... ;)

Pae, can you click the hd icon in the mobility center? This will run the 3D Drive Guard Program, from there, select about and tell me what version the program reports.

If it is 4.0.5.1 then please tell us where you downloaded it from. :)

    Thanks.

I haven't found such a list. I'd rather not install anything before I'm sure it's supported.

    Device Mangler was no help.

I don't recall whether mine was marketed by HP as LS.

Apparently your computer does support lightscribe. Paste your model to hp support software & driver downloads section and select your operating system. then expand software - solutions. Lightscribe is listed there... :)

    Here's link to your model
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv8t-1100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP technical support (Finland - English)

    Edit:

To be absolutely sure you have lightscribe, open your cd/dvd tray and look for special sensor. Here's a picture what you should look for. The sensor is identified with a red circle. All this info can be found at lightscribe.com.

I wouldn't infer Lightscribe support from the presence of the driver on the official support page for that model. That model is available both with and w/o Lightscribe enabled drives.

    Download: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48696.exe (~120 Megs)

    Edit:
Both updates installed smoothly to my dv6, no problems. QLB fn shortkeys + volume/mute/wifi+bt buttons all working perfectly. QLB System Information box skin back to basic grey color. Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard with HP QLB version 6.5.1.2.

Webcam software installation took about 5 mins, so patience... No noticeable changes in program functionality.

Webcam wouldn't install for me. Black box comes up and closes after about 20 seconds with little happening. A temp file is created in appdata/local/temp that removes itself after a few seconds without installing anything.

Unzip the Package and start the setup.exe which is included in the src folder.

The setup.exe gives you a better feedback/exact error why the WebCam Software don't install.

I also can't install the WebCam Software. The setup missed an component from MediaPlayer, but don't say what component is missing.

    And under Win7 I can't reinstall the MediPlayer :(

    Some Ideas?

    Thanks

Now this is something very annoying. It has hapenned to me too when installing some of the MediaSmart components. I have no clue what's causing this. Last time it hapenned was when i updated the SmartMenu. I ended up uninstalling the whole MediaSmart suite and sweeping all traces of it. Then re-installed every piece of it starting from SmartMenu.

This worked for me, so you could try to uninstall the previous Webcam thingy and re-install with the new one.

Extracting the installer first does the trick sometimes, but this is not helping always.

Well as I said in a later post, in this case extracting the installer did work and surprisingly, it was having Skype open that was preventing the installation from proceeding. Why HP's install process can't provide that kind of feedback w/o extracting the installer and running it from setup.exe is a problem HP should address.

I've had this problem before and now I'm not sure which mediasmart apps I've failed to update to the latest versions. But I have yet to actually use a single mediasmart app, so I don't know why I should be concerned.

I usually use 3rd party apps for all photo music and video related stuff. E.g., Faststone Image Viewer, Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop, MPC-HC or the KM Player, AIMP2 for audio player, etc. etc.

But for some reason, I like to keep the mediasmart stuff installed and up to date just in case.

Ok, finally I found the proof about the "HP 3D DriveGuard System" / "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" naming convention and the name of the accelerometer driver "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor: the latest management software version is v4.0.5.1, released in 2 softpaqs sp47282 and sp48408.

Each package contains a version of the accelerometer driver, reading the release notes document contained in sp48408 I found this:

The 4.0.2.1 version of the acc. driver has been superseded by Microsoft Update's version v4.0.10.1.

The tricky thing is that reading the description of the 2 main programs softpaqs:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47001-47500/sp47282.html

    and

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48408.html

You find 2 different names for the same software, but the funniest thing is that if you install sp48408, even if it is called HP ProtectSmart, when the setup runs, you can see that it installs the software as HP 3D DriveGuard. :D

I love HP...these guys driver release process is a complete chaos...thank god, otherwise we wouldn't be here discussing about it and having fun. ;)

Justin: I noticed the correction you made, but I think it's a little bit confusing, you should split the table in two, one called "HP 3D DriveGuard System / HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" with the latest release being v4.0.5.1 (sp48408) and the other table "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor" with the accelerometer driver v4.0.10.1. ;)

    My $0.02... :)

I know my laptop was offered a Lightscribe drive option when I ordered it - I can't determine whether the drive I received is such a "LightScribe" drive.

My drive model is listed by Device Mangler as "BR-TD01HA".

I checked the photos and mine has no extra sensor. The photos show extra stationary dual sensors (that look like the one I have on the moving arm) and single sensors on the moving arm. I can't tell what matters.

    It's version v13.2.1.5.

HP's version (sp48482) is Intel WiFi Link v13.2.0.30; so it's a minor update.

In any case, Intel seems to have removed it; if you click the download links or the release notes link for Windows 7 drivers here:

     Intel® PRO/Wireless and WiFi Link Drivers-Only for Windows 7*

It will redirect to a "moved file" page.

I would advise to wait for an official HP version... ;)

Thanks for the correction...I edited my Post :)

Only the Win7 x64 Driver only Link is broken.

You can still download the Connection Utility for Win7 x64. The x64 Drivers are also included in this Package. ;)

\Disk\Win7\s64\Install\Intel PROSet Wireless\Data1 is the Path (when you have downloaded the *.zip Package). The Intel PROSet Wireless and Data1 Folders are the unpacked Intel PROSet Wireless.msi and Data1.cab ( The Data1.cab is located in the Intel PROSet Wireless.msi).

There's also Broadcom WLAN 5.60.350.9 drivers available at Samsung. I have Atheros card + modded 9.1.0.100 driver, so I can't test this..

    Thanks for direct links :)
Edited my previous post. Added direct download links for 64/32 bit versions + release notes links for RST.

Also noted that JMicron JMB38x Driver 1.00.44.1 is out on the wild, but can't find official source for download...

    UPDATE:

The Gateway driver for the Agere Modem does not work. Though it installs fine, it doesn;t update the driver in the device manager. I even tried installing it manually through device manager with no luck.

Regarding with the new JMicron Driver (1.00.44.1), I've installed it fine and it works fine. Though it's not the official download, it is a WHQL driver. Checked device manager, and install was successful.

I'll update this post as I'm downloading other noted drivers here.

Installed the RST and lost 20GB of my data.
Windows 7 x64 bit, upon installation finishing the installer crashed.
After rebooting have lost all my custom files and programs.
With system restrore now i am not able to even boot in windows.
    Hopefully i have a backup.
This driver is for desktop/server use, should also work, but i do
not know what happened. Have updated drivers various times.

hey, i see that the intel eifi link for win7 64 bit does NOT have a download link.

does that mean, the new 13.2.1.5 is not for win7 64 bit?

The rapid storage drivers installed just fine on my dv8t Laptop... expanded them and then double clicked and ran iata_cd.exe.
I checked the intel ahci controller and its updated.

Ouch! :( I updated the driver succesfully, but did not use the utils installer. Just updated the driver through device manager.

Check your windows logs, maybe they reveal what went wrong. Run also chkdsk to scan your hdd. Your filesystem might be corrupted.

Intel WiFi Link driver to version 13.2.1.5 installed just fine... pretty uneventful... it never gave me a popup window telling me it was done.. but under network adapters in device manager I see that "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN" drivers are now updated to 13.2.1.5
what's strange is it shows the driver date as 5-31-2010, do they just not relabel these things right or am I missing something?

    -----------------EDIT
These "Vista drivers" may have took out my Realtek ethernet PCIe drivers, they dissappeared out of device manager and I could no longer connect via ethernet cable..... I just had to reinstall them and all was well.
