@Undress: Thanks for finding the mistake; it has been corrected.![]()
For everyone: new Intel drivers are now up. See the original post for additional installation information.
- Updated Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility to version 9.1.1.1020.
- Updated Intel Matrix Storage Manager to version 8.9.2.1002.
-
How do you "extract" the package for the chipset software?
-
Heyo, I wonder, I've been following your and dannyres' threads with the drivers, as I own a dv5t (considering dannyres has been kind of away for some time) and most of the times you guys upload an Intel Chipset Driver, the link goes to some other chipset driver's page, like now yours is linked to "Chipset: Intel® Chipset Device Software for Intel® Desktop Boards", is it still good? and if it is, Why?
Thanks! -

There is a new JMicron JMB38X Card Reader driver
JMB38X_WinDrv_R1.00.34_WHQL

HP seems to be releasing a pile of BIOS updates with support for new CPUs and the computrace id strings. A lot of laptop home pages seems to have been updated with WIn7 references as well.
Oct 22nd must be getting close. -

I was thinking about the driver threads.
It might be worth trying to maintain a grid of laptops/drivers instead of different threads for each laptop model/family.
Across the top of the grid, run the laptop models/families.
Across the left side, list the hardware components (bios, chipset, cpu, video, audio, net, etc).
In each box, list the current softpaq with a hot link and a date of last update.
You could even go so far as to highlight fresh softpaqs (a week or less) in red, then move them to black as they age. That way someone could glance at your grid, visually pick up on updates, and go to town with their downloads.
Might be easier to maintain this data as a read-only stickie instead of six or seven interactive posts. -
fantastic! helped me allot...
few questions though, and I hope someone will explain!
what is JMicron 1394 Filter? Intel SATA AHCI (Intel Matrix Storage Manager)?
I installed both of them, but I don't know if I need them at all... does my hp hdx16 1350el support intel matrix storage manager? and what is that card reader filter? I installed driver, what does filter do?
THANKS! -
I'd like to say thanks for this thread, it's very useful for those of us who like doing a clean install. I'm going to put my own "minimalist" spin on a Windows 7 x64 setup. In general, I dislike manufacturer-provided drivers, especially those that install useless startup programs and services. Notable exceptions are critical items such as chipset and video drivers. So here's my rundown on installing minimal drivers for Win7 X64 on a HDX16:
1. Install Intel chipset drivers from Intel website.
2. Install NVidia notebook drivers from NVidia website.
3. Install JMicro card reader drivers from this thread.
4. Install ENE CIR remote receiver drivers from this thread.
5. Install HDD sensor driver from this thread.
6. Install fingerprint driver from this thread.
7. Install Digitalpersona software from this thread.
This gives a very clean install with no unknown devices in Device Manager. The only services running are for the NVidia graphics card, the HDD sensor, and the fingerprint driver and software.
The caveat here is that not all advanced features work, such as detailed audio tweaking, bass/treble controls, quick launch key status changes, etc...
A lot of these features I don't really care about and would rather not have the crapware installed to support them.
I will say that I am considering installing the Quick Launch Buttons software, but I'd like to know if a startup program/service is installed along with the driver. I would like for the quick launch buttons to have the different LED status changes and a working eject key, but it's not worth it if a resource-hogging program comes along with it. Can anyone comment on this? -
NTolerance,
this has been discussed before, check my post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5272913&postcount=90
You just need to install Quick Launch and SmartMenu to get what you want. -
The Intel Matrix Storage Manager enables the motherboard's SATA controller to work in AHCI mode and may add specific functionality to the controller. See the link posted in the driver notes on the original post for more information. -
Hi - new member here - I have an HP HDX16T-1200. I've found this thread pretty helpful in upgrading to W7 Ultimate but I have one problem that I can't figure out.
Everything works except fot the fingerprint reader. I've tried installing the drivers found in this thread but everytime I try to install the software it tells me the fingerprint reader is not detected. I've tried reinstalling, installing in Vista compat mode, rebooting, etc... Is there something obvious I'm missing?
It seems as though some members have gotten this to work (NTolerance, for example), so there must be a way. -

There are some advantages and disadvantages to creating what I would call a mega driver thread for all of the models. The most significant advantage to doing this would be the fact that everything would become centralized -- meaning that it would become the one-stop place for all HP notebook drivers, and I wouldn't have to update all the threads separately. However, I do see some disadvantages as well -- technically, I am not sure if the current forum structure would natively allow a table, and if a table is allowed, would it become too large for it to be useful? Also, using a grid structure may undermine the use of installation notes and comments that I put in for some of the drivers. I do think the date of the last Softpaq/release update is potentially informative, but then it makes the list of recent edits a little less useful.
I would be happy to know what users think about these ideas though, and how the format of the driver threads can be improved in any way possible so that it'd be easier to get through while still being comprehensive! -
I'd say let the individual threads continue but add the big cross reference table as a one-post-no-response-sticky. Just reference the new-drivers posts from the threads back to the table.

I agree the forum isn't the ideal place to build something like that, we could have a specific section on the website that handles the database, like this one: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers
It would be easier to search for drivers and also populate descriptions for each driver, etc.
We could also have a comment section on that page for people to contribute...they could advice for new drivers, upload a new one and the managers of the database could approve and the others could see it.
Just brainstorming with you guys...it would be very cool to have it...and it would help lots of users... -
I'd say keep things the way they are. I get notifications where there have been new posts and then I just come right here for the download links. Great job and thanks for managing this for us all...
Regards,
Jerry -
New driver addition:
I didn't see this on the list but here is one that came with my new machine and is kind of a neat tool.
HP Wireless Assistant
Version: 3.50.9.1
OS Support: Windows Vista & Windows 7
Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44700.exe -
FWIW, W7 prompted me to "Solve a problem with my fingerprint reader" and directed me to a site to download new drivers. It comes with Digital Persona "Enrollment" which works, but only for logon. No adding passwords for sites, etc... No problem, all I wanted was logon anyway.
Even after installing the new drivers, I tried to install the digital persona software from HP and still got the not detected message.
I'm running a legit copy of W7 Ultimate RTM from Technet, btw. Not sure if that is what was causing the problems at all.
Now the only slight issue I have is that my mute "button" is always red (but works) and the treble/bass buttons don't work right. I can live with that until they come out with new quicklaunch button software.
EDIT: These are the drivers I was prompted to download:

As I dont have the HDX model, I have dv5t customized. Should I install MediaSmart software or keep QuickPlay?
EDIT: Also need to know if I should install this new BIOS or thats just for HDX's
Thanks! -
The BIOS posted in this thread is only for the current HDX series. You can download the latest BIOS for your dv5t here:
Version: F.21 A
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45138.exe
For reference, you should visit and contribute to the dv5t driver thread instead if you have any questions or concerns. The users there are better at answering questions about this specific model if asked. -
Is there any way to update the DigitalPersona software other than through HP? HP's updates are lagging behind those found on the DigitalPersona site, and the HP release is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.
I must say that I'm still pleasantly surprised with Digital Persona. It's got a decent interface and is fairly simple to configure. I was pleased to see that it recognized TightVNC Viewer and allows me to do a swipe when I connect to a VNC server. Sweet.
I wonder how it hooks into apps. Do they have to support each application specifically or do they have some sort of grabber that detects generic password prompts? -
According to this article http://is5.nohold.net/DigitalPersona/ukp.aspx?vw=1&solid=453&pid=3&snid=3 there is a newer version of digital persona - 4.0.1.3751, which together with a patch DP06_01_007 supports Internet Explorer 8, 7, 6 and Firefox 3.5 and 3.0. Unfortunately the one that we have and HP is still showing on their update page is version 4.01.3749 and an update within the program is not possible. This thing is out from a month and we still don't have it- for me the whole fingerprint thing is useless without Firefox 3.5 support...
"While AskPersona is designed to support only DigitalPersona customers and OEM's of Personal support their customer's 100%, this additional information is provided as a courtesy: Note for HP Personal users: Your updates may not be available via the update mechanism built into Personal, but available instead though other HP update mechanisms, or downloadable from www.hp.com. For example, for information on updating to HP Personal 4.0.1.3749 follow this AskPersona solution." -
So you say we can't get this version+patch from somewhere else?? It's also useless to me too right now, since i'm using Firefox 3.5
keep us posted -
By the way the new validity fingerprint reader 3.1.366 and driver version 2.1.0.2 made my reader unusable (shows completely fine in device manager, but not working at all) so I had to do a recovery with the original one my system came with. -
-
What driver disabled the on-screen display of the Bass/Treble/Volume??
I miss that! I never had a problem w/ those either.
NOW, I have to adjust my treble and bass settings through Windows Control Panel/Sound!! Kind of a pain! -

For Windows XP users, a new update to HP ProtectSmart/3D DriveGuard is out.
10/06/2009
- Updated HP ProtectSmart (3D DriveGuard) Hard Drive Protection to version 1.10.7.1 for Windows XP.
Seeing recent discussion, I realize that the current version of the DigitalPersona software is outdated. HP has been actively updating their FTP server, mainly to support their computers with Windows 7. When a new version becomes available, the users in this thread will be the first to know about it.
There may be a lot of updates happening on all the driver threads over the next couple weeks in preparation for Windows 7, so stay tuned! -

, and failed to do anything. No eject function, no mute LED color change, no bass/treble control.
I then installed the SmartMenu software, which seemed to fail during the install and again did nothing. I realize that this particular package doesn't have Win7 support according to the original post, but I did want to share my experience with fellow Win7 users. As a side note the install popped up a cmd window that started the Tablet PC service, which I find bewildering. Previously I had disabled all Tablet PC support using the Add/Remove Windows Features applet.
In the end, here's all I want from the multimedia buttons in the future:
1. Mute LED status color change
2. Working eject button
3. Ability to re-map treble/bass controls to volume control for a media player such as Foobar2000
This is probably a lot to ask, but I guess all I can do is wait for official Win7 drivers to get posted on HP's site and test them out. Has anyone running Vista been able to re-map the treble/bass controls to generic functions in other programs? I like the buttons themselves, but I have no desire to continually tweak treble/bass settings. Flat sounds good to me.
A fun side note: In Ubuntu Linux the mute LED works. -
Second update for today -- HP has released new audio drivers for all current operating systems.
- Updated IDT High Definition Audio driver to version 5.10.6232.0 for Window XP and version 6.10.6232.0 for Windows Vista/7.

Awesome resource thread! Thanks!

Anyone still have it on their laptop and can send/post what is necessary to install it again. While I was told that RAID can't be set up on this laptop (not that I want to), would just like the have the Manager I had originally, it was supposed to be exactly the same laptop I was to get in return.
Failing that, is anyone willing to post very detailed instructions to load the thing from the links on page one, instructions that even I can figure out? From what I read some time ago, it involved 3 1/2" disks and sounded complicated. -

MediaSmart DVD 3.0 has arrived! Other MediaSmart 3.0 utilities should be released soon; the documentation shows that MediaSmart 3.0 will only work with Windows 7, not currently sure about Windows Vista. I need confirmation as to whether this works on Windows Vista.
10/08/2009
- Updated MediaSmart DVD to version 3.0.2815 for Windows 7.
On another note, I am also beginning the process of updating the driver threads to include upcoming refreshes. Depending on how similar the Intel-based dv8 series is going to be with the HDX16 and HDX18 series, support for these notebooks may be added into this thread. -
-
The HP MediaSmart TV driver is also compatible with windows 7
-
An update for all current and relatively recent notebook models.
10/10/2009
- Updated HP Quick Launch Buttons to version 6.50.5.1.

I have a following question; my internet connection doesn't work good, I have cases of several broken downloads, or corrupt installers. Yesterday I downloaded bios update for HP, but those files are archives, and if the installer was corrupt it wouldn't unpack files successfully, right? or I just flashed bios with corrupt installer?

Hope THIS helps!
