There's something seriously wrong with this driver. It totally kills my display. After install and a restart I get only a blank screen, no cursor no nothing. I had to uninstall my audio and graphics drivers in safe mode to get back on track. Now the problem is that I can't install any IDT audio driver. It always kills the graphics driver. Suggestions?

I tried all combinations with graphics drivers 280.62 & 275.33 and audio 6.10.6341.0 & 6.10.6330.0 - I still get blank screen at Windows logon.

My last good combo of graphics and audio drivers was 275.33 & 6.10.6330.0. I updated audio to 6.10.6341.0 and that's when trouble started. Now I can install any graphics driver, but IDT drivers give me the damn blank screen.

If you go to official nvidia website and select GeForce GT 230M to download driver. They recommend the 275.33

Hmm... nope, they offer 280.26. Nvidia updater is offering that driver too.

Anyway, you were right bluedayz, it was the buggy graphics driver that was giving me hard time. Finally got IDT driver 6.10.6341.0 and Nvidia driver 275.33 working together. Just had to remove both drivers and istall IDT driver first.

Anyone else having trouble with the latest Nvidia driver 280.26?

Hey so I know I am new in here and all but I hope that most of you read this as it affects quite a few people especially those with dv8's. I called HP today with a problem with the touch controls on the laptop. I had this problem before and sent it back only to have them replace the board and then a couple of months ago the problem came back. Talking with the tech support guy today they have apparently released a new bios update for the hp dv8 series of notebooks that corrects the problem that I have had with my laptop. I have yet to have the problem since the update and it had gotten so bad as to be an issue repeatedly.

Anyway Here is the link to the updated bios on HP's ftp site.

    I hope this helps someone

    • Updated Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth driver package to version 6.5.0.1300.

This package includes a revamped setup wizard. Note that driver component version numbers may differ from the one that I mentioned above.

That new nvidia graphics driver hosed my system too. Got the blank screen and windows wouldn't start. I make daily backups of my entire C: drive so I simply recovered with the previous day's daily Acronis TIH backups of my OS drive (C :). For now, I'll stick with the previous version of the display driver. Never had a problem with nVidia drivers like this before.

Btw, the latest IDT driver had installed a day or two before with no problems.

Certainly the 280.26 driver is the culprit for the blank screen with cursor problem .
What is interesting to note for me is that the system booted fine after install when it says "restart",after finishing the installation. BUT after another reboot the screen goes blank with the cursor.

Had to go back to 2275.33 for normal service.

Any one got a fix to this problem?
Also nvidia update shows me the 280.26 is tthe driver for me not 275.33 and change log says it supports my (300M) series card.

    Please advise
    Thanks.

Nvidia update and Nvidia website offer driver 280.26 for my 230M too. 280.26 graphics driver works just fine if you completely remove IDT audio driver and use Microsoft generic driver. So, Nvidia 280 series drivers are definitely not working with IDT audio driver.

6.10.6330.0 didn't work. Not sure about previous releases.

Do you have the latest IDT audio driver installed too?

@Justin: Thanks for the recent updates! Do you have any problems with the latest Nvidia graphics and IDT audio drivers?

I currently have both the NVIDIA 280.26 and IDT 6.10.6341.0 drivers running on my notebook.

Here were my steps: I uninstalled the previous version of the IDT audio driver, restarted, and then installed the newest version. This worked well, so I then performed a clean installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver. This required me to restart two more times (one after the removal of 275.33 and another one after the installation of 280.26). I have not experienced any problems so far, except for one instance where I did not have anything appear on the screen after a subsequent reboot. I simply performed a cold boot, and everything was fine again after that.

Guys, it looks like the latest Broadcom Bluetooth driver update is also installing some unnecessary software in the background that I didn't initially know about. It is low and shady that companies like Broadcom have to resort to bundling unneeded stuff like this. Because of it, I'm now thinking about removing the update from the first post.

metril found out about this -- for more information, see http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v7-6xxx-envy-17-2xxx-intel-7.html#post7803612.

EasyBits Go games has been installed along Skype since 2006. Read the following article about it. It includes a link to EasyBits Go games removal tool.

I just updated my BT drivers via device manager to avoid that Easybits crapware. I remember when I first got this laptop, it was preloaded with Easybits Magic Desktop and thought w*t*f is this :D

    Have you tried installing this?

It brings up a FlashPSoC window that says:

    Version Information:
    Current Version - 91
    New Version - 92

Then an update button. I've done this two times, and the system fully shut down.

However, when I boot back up and open that .exe it still says my Current Version is 91. Any help?

HTML/CVA links for IDT High Definition Audio driver to version 6.10.6351.0 (sp53966) lists Win 7 32-bit OS only. Is this really good for 64 bit machines?

Previous version (even with the newest nVidia drivers is working fine for me.

For the IDT audio driver update, 64-bit (x64) systems will also work despite the release notes only indicating that it works on 32-bit (x86) machines.

I'm now experiencing persistent problems with the NVIDIA graphics driver as well (those blank screen problems at boot), so I will be reverting back to 275.33. I recommend that others do the same if a similar issue is being experienced -- the best way to remove the 280.26 driver is through Safe Mode. (However, I will be leaving 280.26 up because some people are not experiencing these issues.)

Did you or anyone in here install the Quick Launch Button Firmware update I referenced above? It doesn't seem to be applying correctly when I run that Flash PSoC program. The current version stays the same after reboot.

    Any ideas?

As Jeff R 1 mentioned in the dv8 Owners Lounge, extract the Softpaq and run the flashing utility with administrator privileges.

    Thanks justinkw1!

I unpacked it and ran the FlashPSoC w/ admin privileges and it showed I have Version 92 installed.

So what's your recommendation on the IDT and NVIDIA graphics driver combo?

6.10.6351.0. for IDT and 275.33 for NVIDIA for now?

Thanks, I'll be looking into this.

Yes, this is my current recommendation. You can however try the 280.26 driver and see if you experience any problems. If you do experience blank screen problems under 280.26, you will simply need to remove the driver from Windows Safe Mode. Then, reboot into normal Windows and install 275.33 (both are available on the first post).

I tried 280.26 and experienced the blank screen on start-up. I had to go through safe mode and uninstall it, then go back to 275.33.

Hopefully they release a new version soon that works.

If it's unofficial in the way that it's not by HP (or from HP but modified without their approval) then this forum here might not be the right place for this.

Still interesting in knowing. I don't have a dv6, but my Quick Launch Button interface looks very similar (actually exactly the same as one model from Google Images) but has version 8F and I wonder if I could also flash mine. But I am not adventurous enough to do it if there is no way back.

    • Updated Intel Chipset Device Software to version 9.2.2.1034.
    • Updated Intel HD Graphics driver to version 8.15.10.2476 (15.22.8[.64].2476) / 6.14.0.3074 (Audio).

The Intel Chipset Device Software update is minor; you don't need to install it if you had already used 9.2.0.1030 or 9.2.0.1031.

The Intel HD Graphics driver is also only for notebooks with an integrated graphics solution.

    Hey,

I downloaded the Intel Chipset Device Software 9.2.2.1034 and ran it using the -overall command.

However, when I go under device manager it still shows as "9.1.1.1022" for the INF. Is this supposed to show up this way?

I see the correct 9.2.2.1034 version when I go under regedit under the Version, but not under Infver:
    HKLM\Software\Intel\Infinst

I mentioned this before -- and I should have mentioned it again when I posted this. :)

9.2.2.1034 is the package version number -- driver component versions will differ (they will usually be less than the Intel package version).

In this case, 9.1.1.1022 was the first package in which this particular driver was included.

Can't you just unpack (with 7-zip or therelike) the installer and run only the setup executable for the drivers (or install them through the the device manager)?
