Did you completely uninstall the previous driver? The uninstaller does not completely remove them sometimes.

Anyways, here's my normal way of updating amd graphic drivers.
    Uninstall via add remove
    Restart
Run DriverSweeper in safe mode or elevated mode.
Remove any leftover amd graphic drivers.
    Restart
    Install intended amd graphic driver
    Restart
    ?????
    Profit :)

haven't done it yet, waiting on a response. usually software installers have become pretty good about installing over older

Sadly, for me, amd drivers usually fails on that part. I get really odd behaviors doing a direct update or simple reinstall.
Plus I don't want Windows, keep a long history of previous drivers. Especially, when previous drivers becomes pointless without their version of software.

    thanks.

my question was directed to the IDT driver and MediaSmart DVD.

so far IDT installed over the old without a hickup. going to do mediasmart now.

for some reason, running the mediasmart dvd installer doesn't install it. looking in the swsetup folder, don't see a folder created from the installer sp50486 ...

i get a prompt from windows asking if it installed correctly or not ...

i just had a look @ my installed programs in windows. noticed that nvidia physX was installed on the same date as when i installed dragon age origins....

wondering what the impact of this is on my laptop, because i have ATI graphics and no physics accelerator hardware that i'm aware of ...

i'm contemplating removing it, want to find out more and if it impacts game performance or not ...

    no other games installed

    Hay..
I got a new laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-3177ee) .. It comes with Bluetooth version 3.0
I was actually glad about that .. until I tried to connect my nokia phone with my laptop by (PC Suite or OVI Suite)
both of the applications didn't recognize that there is a Bluetooth in the laptop..
although when I try to send a file from/to the phone it’s sent fine.
the Bluetooth device name is :
    Ralink/Motorola BC4 Bluetooth 3.0 + HS Adapter
I think it’s from the BT driver (I updated the driver from hp site).. It’s not like any of my previous laptops that has BT in them..
is there another way to make Windows 7 (x64 ) realize that I have a traditional BT that can connect to my phone through their applications.

and another problem .. my laptop connects to my home wireless network .. but cannot connect to the internet for about two minuets each time I reboot the labtop… while other PCs and laptops can connect instantly to the internet!!
So what do you suggest I do?

    Thanks in advance

Check your wireless device manufacturer and install driver that matches. There's three possible manufacturers for your model -- Intel, Ralink/Motorola or Atheros. If that information is not shown in device manager for some reason, post your wireless deviceID.

Glad it's working for you. :)

I'm going to do a massive content update across all of the driver threads and they will all be up shortly - I just need to sift through everything (since I was so busy for the last couple weeks, I'm trying to figure out how to do this in the best possible manner).

Is it possible to use the reference drivers off of AMD's site on a DV6t for the 5650 and still get sound over the HDMI and also have switchable graphics, or do we have to choose between the latest drivers and the other functionality?

Using the official driver disables switchable graphics.

Actually, it not only disables the switchable graphics. You just get a whole lot of frustration with it if you have a switchable version :D

    What is switchable graphics?

I Have a DV7-2270US with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 card, and installed the latest ATI Mobility packages (10.11) from ATI for Win7x64.

Did I lose something in the process?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joe

Eh, you shouldn't worry much it about.

Anyways, Switchable graphics is a recently introduced technology.

What it does, is to switch between low power consuming video card and a high consuming video card. The idea to save power whenever is possible.

The current AMD solution is a manual switch that requires user intervention. (Drawback requires all apps to be closed before switching or you get odd behaviors)

But the Nvidia solution is to be seemless as possible without user intervention. ( I like this more, drawback - it has to actively catch applications, eventually there is a few that would fail)

Also note your dv7 is a 2nd generation, this thread is about dv7 4th generation + others current gens. But no problem :D

It's the ability to switch between an IGP and a dedicated card. You didn't lose anything, however, because you never had that feature in the first place.

That would be the 3rd generation :D

    General idea to determine generation
    dv7t-1XXX 1st gen
    dv7t-2XXX 2nd gen
    dv7t-3XXX 3rd gen
    dv7t-4XXX 4th gen
    dv7t-5XXX 5th gen
...so on and so on :)

i have a question; for my model (envy 17-1011nr), i'm browsing the drivers for download page, noticed the graphics drivers are no longer called ATI, but AMD High Definition Graphics Drivers.
there is an updated version dated 10/29 ... i have the 8/13 version.

i assume the name change is just that ... ? also, what ATI driver version is in the newer update ?
they have no specific information on the downloads page about the driver, which is a change from when they used to list 'some' technical info on what the update is about ...

All the updates I've done to the first post in the past week - enjoy!

    11/21/2010
    • Updated Atheros Wireless LAN driver to version 9.1.0.328.
    • Updated Intel Chipset Device Software to version 9.2.0.1015.

    11/22/2010
    • Updated Intel GMA / HD Graphics driver to version 8.15.10.2226 [15.17.12(.64).2226] / 6.14.0.3072 (Audio).
    • Added Ralink RT3090 Wireless LAN driver version 3.1.11.0.

    11/27/2010
    • Added Ralink / Motorola Bluetooth + High-Speed Adapter driver version 3.0.42.280.
    • Removed HP Quick Launch Buttons.
    • Added HP Quick Launch Software version 2.2.7 (2.20 A8).
    • Added Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller driver.

Note 1: the Ralink / Motorola Bluetooth + HS adapter driver is only for notebooks that are equipped with the actual adapter. Don't install this driver if your notebook doesn't have this adapter.

Note 2: I finally removed the original HP Quick Launch Buttons and posted the new HP Quick Launch Software since it fixes the Beats Audio function. Seems that this is what newer HP notebooks should be installing now. :)

Note 3: USB 3.0 drivers have been added, and are currently for the Envy 17 3D Edition.

Since the exe has been taken down, I will not be posting this up just yet - waiting for this new version to be reposted hopefully.

The MediaSmart DVD installation process was pretty bad the last time I tried to install it - a script was run and installation took a while. A progress indicator may not be shown.

AMD is the parent company of ATI. Everything is now branded AMD as part of the company's strategy to phase out the ATI name. The newest release provided on the first post should be the equivalent to Catalyst Mobility 10.10, with some specific HP customizations.

i noticed this too, when i installed the version i have in swsetup. i was wanting to update it to the latest (v4.1) but the installer i pulled from hp's web site doesn't update it ...
it doesn't matter much at this point because i don't see any enhancements to playback concerning compatibility ... in the future it might. avoiding having to spend $ to get blu-ray playback functionality on my system, i still think it's something microsoft will address in the future with windows 7.

i figured as such and installed it. no problems so far ...

If I remember it correctly, microsoft os by default does not come with a dvd or blue-ray decoder for licensing reason depending on country.

I know definitely for sure in the USA, they won't address it.

hey i've a hp dv6 select edition 3000.. just wondering if IDT latest audio driver is ftp://hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50589.html ??
    ftp://hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50589.exe

also on my new laptop i recently have been getting BSODs.. randomly it will intermitt buzzing sound like its frozen when playing video, audio or something (the buzzing sound is like holding the space bar repeatededly its that repeating windows sound that indicates the laptop is having trouble) and it will send the whole system crashing..

the BSOD error i get is STOP: 0x0000007F which is basically some type of hardware or software error, i have a feeling it could be the audio driver since thats what seems to be buzzing but not sure..
i had no problems until like days ago when randomy BSOD appears..

Nope....that driver shouldn't work directly installed. You can do a quick workaround, I just don't know how the IDT control center would respond correctly. So, install with caution.

What was the last thing you installed?

Also, I used to have IDT 6300 before HP removed it. Let say it didn't play nice, so I reverted to 6292. Doing just fine.

The reason why these drivers are selected instead of using the official drivers cause they work on most systems.
Not everyone can install the absolute latest.

This thread is pretty simple to use and convenient for the technically savvy ;) with some 'basic' research prior.

    Anyways...
Official AMD drivers will not work well or supported if your model has a switchable graphics.

The official AMD driver isn't compatible with systems with switchable graphics.

And why did HP release another revision of the 10.10 drivers instead of making 10.11? :/

Bah I hate the version at the moment... I didn't notice.

Anyways, I had an odd behavior with the previous version... Though I fixed it pretty crappy.

I try this one out, there is a good chance I will not notice anything much. Odd they went a version back.

Edit: Pretty much did nothing :p

Where are the latest HP revision of 10.10 drivers for AMD switchable graphics?

This file is currently unavailable [reason: ¿a critical bug perhaps?]

Could you post an updated link please?

I'm mainly interested on the latest official HP drivers for my dv7-4090es -> N620 CPU + (HD4250 & HD5650) switchable GPU
