    [Drivers] HP dv6-3XXX / dv7-4XXX / ENVY 17-1XXX (INTEL)

    Noone else has also experienced this, or did you figure it out? I just uninstalled all the drivers to update and then I read this post. It's a pain in the ... to update these driver's as it is, i don't want to go backwards. Support Assistant ended up updating the drivers on it's own and experienced lots of blinking, especially during the updating process and obviously when the graphic chips switch even when no apps were open. I have removed CCC from programs and features, uninstalled the ATI graphics chip, run CC cleaner, registry cleaner, and i'm about to update. Maybe it will work out fine...hopefully. I haven't done anything to the Intel chip...hope that's OK.

    EDIT: After updating using the link for ATI Graphics Chip for version 8.771.1.0 sp50640 ended up being the old version 8.741.1.1. I confirmed the version number on the setup screen, however, according to my device manager that is not the case...any idea whats going wrong. i repeated this twice.

    From what I think you said, it seem you are trying to downgrade from 8.741.1.1 to 8.741.1.0.

    It seem you didn't completely removed it. You need make sure, windows doesn't install their previous version by removing it manually in the device manager. Keep doing it and restart until windows only boot up in 800x600 resolution?

    • Removed Validity Fingerprint Reader driver version 4.3.110.0.
    • Updated Intel WiFi Link driver to version 14.0.2.2 for Windows 7.

    I removed version 4.3.110.0 of the Validity Fingerprint Reader driver because of reported installation problems -- this package is not natively meant for the readers used in these notebook models. As a result, the driver failed to install during setup. Also, I realized that the drivers loaded for these readers are not actually WHQL Certified -- only the newer VFS471 and VFS5XXX readers are WHQL Certified in this package.

    I did do this. It kinda freaked me out for a second with both drivers uninstalled. I still have not been able to successfully install the updated drivers for the switchable graphics ATI Radeaon, and intel. I am experiencing Chrome crashing on a regular basis.
    After uninstalling both graphic drivers, i tried installing the updated drivers from this site, and as i said, after installing its still 8.741.1.1 not the 8.771.1.0, updated drivers. I don't know why. I'd love some support if someone could help me out here. Again, Win 7, HP dv63100, Ati Radeon 5650, intel hd.

    I said before, you cannot rely the amd uninstaller to completely remove the driver. You have to remove it by manually. Use driver sweeper for example.

    Have you been switching cards without closing all running applications?
    If you did switch, that would explain the crashing issue. There is a note that you must close all application before switch in your prompt.


    The technical reason for chrome has 3d acceleration is enabled by default. If you switch, chrome has no way to detect that it has been switch so it tries to render in the previous mode. It kind of like try to dereferencing a null pointer or invalid memory address.

    Intel codes are not the same as AMD codes.

    A driver update all depends on whether HP decides to release one.

    Unfortunately, the available dv6-4XXX and dv6-6XXX graphics driver packages are not compatible with the dv6-3XXX series.

    I'm re-posting this from the "HP dm4-1XXX / dv5-2XXX / G32 / CQ32 / ENVY 14 (INTEL)" drivers page. I hope this helps.

    I wanted to add this for people who have problems with DigitalPersona personal fingerprint reader software auto login feature not working with Firefox 4. You should use the latest version of HP SimplePass(7.0.74.0), it has support for Firefox4 and IE9. HP SimplePass is more robust than the DigitalPersona software.
    Make sure to uninstall DigitalPersona and reboot then run CCleaner's Registry cleaner and reboot again!

    I bought a Hp dv6t SE 3000 Edition. I created a recovery disc by Recovery Manager.Since my friend borrowed it in 2 weeks ago. My Lappy was attacked by a virus. I used recovery disc but the fifth disc occured badly. Now, im very upset with Win 7 which is not genuine(HP Drivers .... ). I can not turn back may laptop to the first time. Anybody here have the recovery file or something like that??.

    I noticed there isn't a webcam update here, HP assistant keeps failing and can't seem to find a version that makes since at HP.com...can someone please tell me the updated webcam version and where to find it. thanks.

    P.S. Moderator...how ya liking the HP Touchpad? I'm still awaiting the next batch to be released in a couple weeks...currently still using Pre legacy...VERY ticked off that the Pre3 will not be available in US!

    From what I know, HP does not provide a driver for the built-in webcam.

    The HP TouchPad is quite nice actually - good for light web browsing or checking for e-mail...pretty pleased with it so far. :)

    My laptop is a dv6-t from summer 2010 with first-gen Core i5, an ATI 5650 and switchable graphics. Am I to understand that the last available graphics driver is from last November??

    Is there at least an ATI driver out there that will let me just use the 5650 card all the time (at the cost of battery power of course)?
