I did not recognize until now that my dv6-6170 always boots up with the Intel Display as default and I must manually switch to the AMD Display. I already tried all drivers for the 6770m, but the behaviour is always the same. Windows 7 with it's now quite old drivers is working perfectly. Btw I did a clean install of Windows 8 pro and for excluding some mixing of drivers I always restore the original backup image of Windows 8.

I found some updated drivers/untilities from HP:

    sp59664 = Simple Pass 6.0.100.257
    sp59927 = Quick Launch 3.0.6

    and something nice:

sp59332 = HP Quick Start provides new Windows 8 users, who are used to the traditional Start Menu, with convenient accessibility to launch, apps, files, and programs from the classic desktop.

Also from Intel new are the Rapid Storage 11.7.0.1013 Driver and the Intel Management Engine Interface 8.1.2.1318.

I guess I also will try the leshcat enduro driver when I have the time.

Good grief.OK well so what do you think? try that 59407 first? or 59850? I don't see much differance in either one to tell you the truth.

Also Pls bear with me here, I only have dialup, and these 200-300mg files kill me, they take 2 days, and keep my phone busy the whole time. So I try to get to a buddy's house to use his High speed, which isn't always available. Sooooo we'll have to see, besides that I have yet to install W8 Pro (promo) I have been reluctant to even go through this until I see someone actually say they have a "working " driver for this setup for W8. I was about ready to try sp59850, but now this sp59407 is posted. man this is getting really weird.

Nope, they are not for my model, as I guess there will be no further support for it (and it's only 1 year old), but they work perfectly. Also most of the latest drivers posted here are not specifically for my model.

    Hi everyone,

    The issue has been resolved!!!!

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/

TITLE: AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver

    VERSION: 9.0.0.0
    DESCRIPTION:
This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst
Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported
operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package
includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics
enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under
battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition
multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also
    installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

I don't think it will ever be listed on your driver download page as this driver is certified only for the dm4 models. But it works and I'm confident that you can install it and it will work on your model. Some minor glitches are still there, but this is due to the AMD driver not HP's fault, Their fault is their bad support with driver updates for Win 7 and Win 8.

man o man just took 5 hrs today to install W8, GUI is worse compared to W7, unreal, oh well at least that HP sp59850 graphics driver works just right lol, never mind the rest. I can't seem to get my WIFI driver installed either. This is going to be one hell of a time, I hope MS does a big SP in the future for this thing.

And as far as boot time being soooo much faster, it takes my laptop twice as long now.

Did you perform a clean install of Windows 8? Or, did you perform an in-place upgrade from Windows 7?

I did an in place upgrade, I had a mess of programs I didn't want to re install, and a few were paid programs I got free from GOTD that have no way to re install those. So far most things I try all seem to run, except Norton ghost 15.

I found my Norton Ghost 15 isn't useable either, I have a good SN, but it doesn't take in W8, and seems the Norton people know it. So that went, I still found Acronis 2010 was working. I'm at a loss too on where the backup is on this 8, in W7 it was in the control panel.

I did find a cool little free start menu program called start x, that works real well :)

Right now I'm downloading the Centrino driver from this site to see if that installs.

Rapid Storage Drivers works for me, you must look at the Chipsets it supports, doesn't matter if Desktop or Laptop. The Intel Management Engine also works, but I looked at the drivers and found out that 8.1.10.1286 has newer ones. Who knows why.

For some reason now my graphics card driver defaults to AMD.

In any case Windows 8 is some sort of a mess for me. Never had a BSOD with Windows 7, now Windows 8 doesn't even do that, due to a driver bug it simply greets you with a black screen. Fortunately I have a dual boot and could fix it knowing where to look, But Explorer keeps crashing daily.

Ok, I will continue to play with it, but my serious work will always be done with Windows 7, never faulted on me,

Has anybody been on leshcat's site lately? I tried the past 2 days but only get some popup box asking for a name and pass word. How does one get this if you can't get to the site?

Coolsense does not work for me; cannot install properly/at all on my dv6-6b55eg.

There is also a new 5.0.5.0 version of original Ralink WLAN driver for Win 7 available on Ralink official site. Works great on my Ralink RT3592BC8 (just enter any name and email and download begins).

    Ralink-A MEDIATEK COMPANY

A small idea maybe, that moderator should fix the title on the first page for Ralink driver instead of "Ralink RT3090 / RT5390 WiFi Adapter" to something like "Ralink RT309X / RT539X / RT35X2 WiFi Adapter" (the driver supports all Ralink models above and are also supported/whitelisted by HP, not only RT3090 and RT5390 chips).

Did anyone else run into a problem with the wireless keyboard button after applying the latest bios update for the envy17-3d? Mine is stuck on now and I can't turn off wireless by pressing it anymore. The mute key works fine though.

I tried installing the latest 13.1 driver over the official HP driver on my HP DV7-6100 and lost brightness controls in Windows 8. I tried to rollback the driver and my computer crashed. Then, when it started up again, I tried to uninstall the 13.1 driver using the Catalyst Installer... it also crashed. When my computer rebooted the 2nd time, I had brightness controls back and when I went to device manager to check the driver version, it was still the latest one from the 13.1 install package (9.12.0.0 - Dated 12/19/2012).

So... in conclusion, I have no idea what transpired, but now everything appears to be working properly.

The WEI score is higher, but I don't really see any noticeable improvement over the previous driver. In fact, YouTube seems to stutters a bit on Firefox with the AMD HD 6770 Card enabled. Whether that is because of this new driver or Adobe Flash, it's hard to tell. YouTube works fine in Chrome though.

    UPDATE:

I would advise against upgrading to 13.1 on the DV7-6100. Shortly after posting above, I started having system crashes when working in Adobe Photoshop, etc. As a result, I tried to uninstall the 13.1 driver and use Driver Fusion to wipe away all traces of it... and my system kept locking up during the uninstall process. I eventually had to rely on a Windows Restore Point to go back to my functional system.

I tried installing the latest 13.1 driver over the official HP driver on my HP DV7-6090es and lost brightness controls in Windows 8. I restarted my computer and Works fine. Windows score not changed. Same as before: 6.9

Edit: After shutdown and power on the computer, brightness controls lost again and forever. I restored my system with a copy from Acronis TrueImage.

non of this matters to people with "switchable" graphics from a manufacturer like HP, the "Radeon" cards used on these laptops are NOT compatible with AMD's drivers, and can't be updated or used as such, ONLY the "manufacturer" drivers will install, as such there is no way to update latest drivers from AMD for those cards, ie 76xxM, in my case the 7690m xt. HP did release a sp59850 in Dec for W8, which will be the one and only update we will see. Only option is still the Gforce line, those drivers CAN be updated right from NVIDIA for their cards, regardless of laptop manufacturer

Don't say anything unless you know what you're talking about. The first post provides reference drivers which may be installed after the initial HP bundled version is installed.

You may also use Leshcat who is very active in development and creates wonderful bundle versions using the latest Catalyst and Intel drivers.

I personally am using Leshcat on a DV6T-6100 and get very good FPS in BF3.

    Agreed.

However, I did not have very good luck on my Dv7t-6100 with installing 13.1 on top of the HP drivers. The result was a very unstable Windows 8 experience.

Now that I think of it... I may actually been updating to 13.1 from the latest reference drivers (12.1) which were installed on top of the official HP drivers. Maybe I would have better luck re-installing the official HP drivers from a clean slate and THEN updating to 13.1.

When I have a free weekend, I'll try that out. Until then, I'm sticking with 12.1.

Also, Leschat drivers have to be installed in "Windows 8 Test Mode" because they require that you disable DSE (Driver Signature Enforcement). As a result, you'll need a program to remove the Windows 8 Test Mode watermark if you decide to go that route. Leschat drivers do work very well though... in my experience.

    Hi!
I'm using the SP59850 video driver pack on my HP DV6 6110eh (6770m), with windows 8 64bit, switchable graphics in FIXED mode. When I use the Radeon, everything works, but when I switch to the Intel graphics processor, some of my programs start to crash. For example, in firefox (but not in chrome), when using youtube, flash player crashes when trying to jump to another position in the video (or even sometimes, when I launch firefox, it crashes), or when I want to open a picture, com surrogate stops working. And what do they have in common? Atiu9pag.dll did it all the time... When using the Radeon graphics processor, everything is ok. After reinstalling windows 8 nothing changed. Is it just me? Any idea?

Yep, same thing was happening to me, all problems went away when I switched the BIOS back to dynamic mode...

As already said by BeaverRat, set Dynamic Mode from BIOS, Intel integrated GPU aren't so good yet to work as principal graphic processor...maybe, it's better that you select (if you want to use only the Intel GPU in Battery Saver mode) in the Catalyst Control Center to Force graphic to energy saving in "Global setting of switchable graphic cards" (sorry for bad translation but I don't know exactly how is wrote in english of this setting :) )

    Hi guys,
Thank you for all the drivers you are uploading here :)

I have a question where you might help me.
If I install the latest software for HD 3000 and 6490m(it says 6400m), then I don't have options for catalyst center when I click right mouse button, but I get 1600MB ram for HD 3000 when I look under properties for graphic card.

But if I let Windows install drivers for 6490m and HD3000, then I see options for catalyst when I click right mouse button on desktop and I see different ram avaliable under properties for graphic card

What do you think is better?
    Thank you :)

It's indifferent, if you use some "soft" 3D application (like simple CAD or little games), it's better that you install official Catalyst driver for switchable graphics, because Intel GPU doesn't work very well...HD 3000 is useful only to display the user interface, navigate with a browser and play some "light" videos (Youtube or other media players).

So the usage of video memory is irrilevant for Intel integrated GPU, I think is better to leave the smarter switch of Catalyst to choose which graphic unit is better for any program ;)

P.S.: the value of shared memory for Intel GPU isn't always the same every time, it's an automatic process that I've never understood properly how it works...but you don't see the difference between two different values...

Thank you for your reply :)
I have also noticed that if I install the latest software for HD3000 and it shows 1600MB ram then I have 5.7 windows index experience, but if I use the software windows installs, then I have 4.9. For 6490m is always the same 6.2
