Not. Not it's HP. You install first drivers SP59850 (windows 8x64) and last officially AMD driver's... i found a complete procedure in this forum...

Temporary fix for updating driver for Envy users with my case a envy 2110ed 6850m videocard.

I have been having a big problem when i want to update my driver the screen turns black after the update.
Windows still works when i check with secondary screen (HDMI).

    FIX:
    1. Update your driver.
    2. Plug in screen (HDMI) so you will be able to do the next step.
3 download Brightness Resolver tool UnifL Brightness Resolver Updated till v4.0 ← leshcatlabs.net
    4. run it shoose generic FFFF .
    5. restart and unplug hdmi before restart.

This is what fixed it for me.

    WARNING

The option to set your brightness will be lost so make sure your brightness is on high.
i have been running a driver from 2011/2012 so i dont care about it.

Hope they come up with drivers for Windows 8.1 RTM when its released because it has issues. I have a dv7-6143cl with Centrino 1000 wireless it has connectivity problems but may not be driver related because now my other pc has the same issue since I installed 8.1 rtm on it. Also now when my Dv7 goes to sleep the fan goes full blast it will not wake up and I have to force shutdown.
EDIT: Just checked my 3rd pc with 8.1 and it too has the same problem. I took the laptop to school to try there router same issue.
Thank you for the drivers you post here with out the dual graphics drivers I'd be lost.

On my DV7-6C70EL I stop to update drivers from 13.2 stable released by HP (GPU driver effetive version 9.0.0.0) to 13.10 beta 2 desktop version (mobility version doesn't detect my mobile GPU...?!).

Try to do the same update progression.

Instead, I've a question: for Windows 8.1 release, there isn't any notice on new stable drivers? Because I tried the RTM on my notebook and only 13.2 version seems works, but it's too old! :( I hope that a modified HP version of 13.9 release is in progress...ok that my GPU (7690M XT) is a rebranding of 6770, but it isn't an entry-level GPU -.-" And I've paid my notebook more than 600€...

I tried to use them, but on my laptop I've less performance than Beta release...I don't know why, but, for example, with official HP release (9.0.0.0) I've 5-10 FPS more than Leshcat latest version...and I tried every Leshcat release...same problems everytime :/

On my Dv6-6170 which has an 6770m the drivers from HP (sp58950) are perfectly working on Windows 8 and 8.1. Also the drivers 13.9 from Leshcatlabs are very stable on Windows 8.1 if we only could solve the issue with the not working brightness control. I guess that HP know how to fix that, but they won't tell. Updated 8.1 drivers from them for 2 years old laptops? Maybe after some glass of rum I could dream of it, I would say have trust in Leshcat, they are working hard on stable drivers.

Well I just updated my W8 to 8.1 and my sp59850 driver for my Radeon 7690 m xt doesn't work. it disabled the card and now only the Intel is working. I checked device manager and it now shows it as a 6700 series, and with nthe yellow question mark, and when checking properties its disabled.

I wonder if re installing the driver would work, I dono ..........

I've the same card and after a clean install of sp59850 package switch return to work. Try to uninstall every driver from Device Manager and reinstall them. My problem, as I expected, is to upgrade to Beta driver. I can't find any Beta that works with my GPU (the same, 7690M XT) after upgrade to Windows 8.1 -.-" I'm downloading the 13.6 Beta 2 (driver version 13.101.0.0)...hoping that works, because I remember that driver version worked fine with Windows 8....

I just re installed SP59850 and it worked as before :), that was the W8 driver from HP back in Dec 2012 for W8, I guess it just got hosed during the updating process. my laptop is a dv7t-6c00, with the 7690m xt/Intel 3000 setup. AMD doesn't support that Radeon card. Anyway I'm back to normal :) and am getting 8.1 to run.

DV6 6100 Select Edition owner here. Just wanted to post some comments about the upgrade process. I used the sp59850 graphics driver (had to reinstall to get it to work properly). Few issues.
    1. Windows 8.1 is a lot buggier than Windows 8 at the moment. Random crashes/hangups
    2. The switchable graphics works to switch it to the dedicated, but I can't get it back to integrated without it freezing on me. It goes back to integrated upon restart of the computer.
    3. 8.1 is noticeably slower than 8 on my machine. 8 was very fluid and fast, but with 8.1 I get a lot of weird pauses and it just doesn't run as smoothly.
    4. Game performance on dedicated GPU seems to be about the same.

In addition, I found that the 6770m GPU has some issues while running in dynamic switching mode on windows 8.1 with the sp59850 package. For example, after associating sc2.exe with high performance in the switchable graphics options, starcarft 2 won't start, saying that it cannot find the graphics card. I hope someone finds a solution to this issue, I really want to upgrade back to 8.1...

Well, had the same problem. So install 8.1, uninstall amd/intel driver, clean up the amd/intel driver leftovers with driver fusion, then restart, reinstall the sp59850 and follow this guide.
However, I have an issue with this one too: Changing brightness is not working with the ati, I have to switch back to the intel, set the brightness and then back to ati. But no freezes at all and every game/program works.

    Or use leshcat drivers. :)

Could you try and use the GPU's in dynamic mode? When I do that, the 6770m is not detected in some games, even when I explicitly set the given .exe file to high performance. Oh, and if anyone plays starcraft 2, give that a shot and let me know if it works for you. I was not having any luck...

No, dynamic mode is not working and I think, it will not work, until HP gives us an update for windows 8. (It won't happen... :) ) Btw give a try to the method explained above, I had the same problem with some games, such as Grid and now it works again.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Dynamic Mode, so I keep mine on Fixed. Anyway, I will certainly try the Driver Sweeping method, completely forgot about that. Hopefully it will resolve any issues.

It took HP 3 months after W8 was released in Oct of 12 to post a Graphics driver for it (SP59850), now I assume IF they even bother, any "updated" graphics driver for W8.1 will also take 3 months, so maybe by mid Dec we'll get another one, which for the most part will still be 3 versions behind AMD's releases.

Yeah sp59850 seems to work on 8.1, but geeezze its a AMD driver dtd before Aug 2012

ol well folks what ever you do don’t use the update in device manager lolol, I just did it for the hell of it to see what it would find, well it did update the intel and it didn’t change much, but when I did the Radeon man o man lol it updated alright, but it all went black, when I did re start it only used my laptop display and not the external monitor, I checked device manager and it had some 6700 series driver installed , geezze, so I ended up doing a roll back to previous driver, that re did it, and even re did the intel driver. Sooo bottom line is just use SP59850 for now, or this leshcat stuff if it works for you.

This is on a dv7t-6c00 with the Radeon 7690m xt and Intel 3000, so don't know what happens to some other setups, but I assume most manufacturer radeon's are the same, NOT supported by AMD.

I suggest using a driver cleaner and then re-install sp59850. Nothing works better than that on Windows 8.1.

HP had a lot of time to make new drivers for Windows 8.1, but if ever, they are not on their priority list. Fortunately the IDT Audio drivers are not from them, so they have been already updated from the developer and HP only build their installation setup around them, but what puzzles me is it that the original driver were already available since August.

AMD said that they won''t support our cards anymore, it's up to the OEM's to do so. They already have all the specifications in their hands since the end of August.

Nothing special. When i update to 8.1, i found a error. I uninstall AMD Catalyst (ATI) of programs and features. Then, in Device Manager --> display adapters, uninstall for both adapters (delete software controller: yes).

Finally, install SP59850, and later AMD 13.4 :hi2:

Hi guys. This is my first post here and I would like to know your advice.

I own a HP dv6 laptop with Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics (Intel HD Graphics 3000), AMD Radeon 6770M and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.

My questions are about graphic cards drivers..

For the Intel HD3000, I can only download 2 drivers: the first one (which I have) is not compatible with Windows 7 because it automatically turns the windows colors to basic and disables many W7 features, and the second one is impossible to install as the wizard always says that my system is incompatible. This is obviously the first of my problems, but not the worst as it does not give me continous BSOD's as the 6770M driver does.

For the 6770M, it's even worse. The only driver available from HP is one from November 2011 and it randomly stops working. To solve this, I have installed many drivers from AMD's website (beta and non-beta, WHQL), and for some time they actually work, but the problem is that they give me random BSOD's at laptop's startup (around 10 seconds after turning on the computer) and also when I change from the Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics to the 6770M (but not the other way around, switching from the 6770M to the Intel has never given me any BSOD), besides the brightness issue that makes it impossible to change brightness level when using the 6770M (I can change it going to the Intel and then to the 6770M, but this has the risk of a BSOD). These issues happened with every AMD driver I tried.

I tried for some time Leshcat drivers (following all the instructions precisely) but the results were terrible: even more BSOD's and an even more severe brightness issue (screen lost brightness completely!) and the tool to solve this issue never worked for me.

After spending countless hours, I found this great topic where every single driver is listed. Upon looking for 6770M drivers in this topic, I saw that the newest was the one from 2011 and I lost the little hope I had left. But then I noticed that for Windows 8, there were HP drivers from December 2012 (more than enough for me after all I've been through). Until now I've wanted to avoid Windows 8 at all costs, but if upgrading to W8 means solving the drivers issue, then it would be more than welcome, moreover because thanks to my university I can get it really cheap.

    So here are my questions:

    - The list from the first page of this topic says that the latest driver for 6770M for W8 is sp59407, however in the last answers everybody is talking about sp59850. Which one should I install? Which one is the newest and which one is the most stable and the best?

    - If I upgrade to W8 and I install the driver you recommend from the previous question (I'm not going to use any driver from AMD, only the ones from HP), will this solve the BSOD and the brightness issues? Will everything work perfectly?

    - If the answer to the previous question is 'yes', would everything also work in Windows 8.1? If not, am I forced to upgrade to 8.1 upon installing W8?

    - How is W8 going to perform in my laptop given its features?

Thank you so much for your time and sorry for the length of the text, but I really wanted to make sure that my situation of despair was clearly explained.

    Best regards :)

LOL, man, ok well here is my 2 cents

I have a dv7t-6coo with the infamous 7690m xt, this is basically a re branded 6770 so its most likely your gona be OK with the same HP driver I'm using, SP59850...., it worker for W8 and is working as usual on W8.1. I also have the Intel 3000 gpu on this machine.

Anything else will only cause you problems as you have already found out. AMD does NOT support anything OEM from these manufactures, don't even bother trying to install the AMD radeon drivers from their site. And don't try to use the windows update either for the GPU's like in device manager, I went through that out of curiosity myself lolol, and had a hell of a time, the Intel did update, but the AMD driver windows "found" and D/L'ed gave me nuthing but a Black screen, I had to do a driver rollback to recover the old HP driver (sp59850) which re did both gpu drivers back to what both were.

There is this leashcat guy that hobbles together drivers from AMD and Intel to come up with something like the "manufactures" gpu drivers, but you have to watch how you install them, the only reason some people do them is cause they just have to play BF3 or4 and are trying to get the latest drivers for their radeon cards. its crazy.and if you read the posts on his blog you see all kinds of cryin lol, maybe 1 out of 30 gets them to work.

My best advice is to just use the best HP driver "as is" old or not, as long as it functions for you. and never buy anything with a red radeon gpu sticker again, look for the black & green Gforce sticker :) I will never again buy anything switchable with a AMD gpu. I keep this laptop for now as is, since W8.1 is working with no problems and it does have pretty good hardware other than this lacking 7690m xt, but I can live with it since I don't have a need for BF3 or 4 or any of that kind of gaming. Normal games play just fine.

btw I also have it set to "fixed" in BIOS so ONLY the radeon card is being used all the time while plugged in, only if I go to battery would it automatically switch to Intel gpu.

    good luck :)

I second that. I do not game at all, so stability is my most important issue. SP59850 previously on Windows 8 and now on Windows 8.1. I don't believe that HP will issue updated drivers for Windows 8.1 for our Laptops.

...win 8 is much faster, the drivers listed on the first page are working fine, just don't forget to set the switchable graphics in BIOS from dynamic to fixed (first one is not working under win8, second is ok, you just have to switch manually, right click on the desktop/switchable graphics settings). Use the sp59850, that's the best now.

Thank you very much for your answers.

I have always used fixed mode so that won't be a problem. I assume that BSOD and brightness issue is solved with this driver right?

I will use sp59850, but has anyone tried sp59407?

Do you know if there is a more recent driver than the one from November 2011 (sp55092, the AMD keeps crashing) for the 6770M in Windows 7? As you recommend sp59850 and it is not listed in the first page, maybe there is another driver for Windows 7 that works well and is not listed either in the first page.

    Thanks! ;)

Well as I stated, my 7690m xt is an OEM re branded 6770, and SP59850 is the driver on my HP driver download page for this OS Windows 8 and 8.1, NOT windows 7, the graphics driver listed for MY card for W7 is SP55092 I had no issues with that driver on W7. But you need to remember that my card IS A 7690m xt, not a 6770 per say, and the HP driver posted for MY card has the hardware ID's in the driver FOR my card that let it see it as a 7690m xt not a 6770, even though that's what it started out as.

I thought you said you were using W8, If your using 7, than you may need to use the driver that came with your system to start with, old or not, HP doesn't update drivers for the fun of it, there is limited driver support for the hardware they stick into their machines, its mainly cheap crippled OEM crap, but they like to stick the "brand" name like Radeon on their stuff. Gforce has decided to NOT go that route, and make them use their "supported" gpus, that's why NVIDIA drivers ARE directly downloadable and updateable right from NVIDIA.

There is also this thing called hardware ID, it makes the driver recognize your specific card, and thus let the driver work with it. I'm not going to go into all that, I'd just use the last OEM driver you got from HP for your system and be done with it. OR as I said you can D/L sp59850 and give it a shot, but remember it was a driver made for W8 for these cards because the windows 7 driver that came with my unit didn't work on W8, so when I upgraded to W8 I HAD to replace the driver.

Here is the HP FTP driver page, you can find SP59850 there,

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/

I'm not sure what the SP number was/is for your original graphics driver, but you can go to HP support and type in your model to look it up if you don't know it, look for the drivers part and select the OS your using now or what you intend to use. It will list what drivers are available.

    edit

OK here is your model drivers page, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5146997&sw_lang=

and as I see, it uses the same SP55092 driver (AMD) as mine did for W7, but as far as I see you CAN NOT upgrade that machine to W8, there is NO driver listed for your machine for W8 so its considered not upgradeable, I think one reason is your screen size, W8 requires a high resolution screen. The screen on my dv7t_6coo is 17.3 @1920x1080P

But hy you can always do a system Image of your OS as it is, wipe the drive, and install W8 on a clean install and have SP59850 ready. The ram is enough, the Video should be OK, its just your screen resolution that might not let you even install W8.

That's about as much as I can do on this.

I have a DV6-6110eh and SP59850 works. It does not depends on your screen resolution, has nothing to do with it, since this is for your video chip, not for your display panel.

I've been using the drivers here for Windows 8 with my dvt6-6100 w/ Radeon 6770M, but now that I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I don't have switchable graphics. Can anyone help?

I had the same problem, just uninstall/reinstall the graphics driver (sp59850).

    1. Uninstall Ati catalyst (or AMD catalyst)
    2. Uninstall driver controller for both graphics cards
    3. Install SP59850
    4. Install Ati drivers 13.4
