AMD Enables Legacy Switchable Graphics Support? ← leshcatlabs.net -
Uninstall old drivers?

it is always better to perform clean install

I have had a couple of reports with issues on Dynamic mode with 13.11 9.2 .. if that happens to be the case .. try Fixed. Or vice versa.
6770m is an odd duck.
6770m Users who have difficulties! Install AMD first and then Intel after a restart! - thanks to Total (UnifL) for this tip.

We don't have many reports for the 6490m. -
Man, you've renewed my graphics card, after months of trying to install the latest drivers, after 13.6 beta <3 Thank you so much!!! -
Wait, so we don't need to rely on HP drivers from 2011 anymore?
My father in law has Pavilion dv7-6b90ec notebook for which the latest driver is the first one, and no matter what I did (inclucing Leshcat's package) I just couldn't get anything else to work at all. -
-
I'm not sure if this AMD driver will work but please do try it and let me know..

I have found latest driver for my HP Radeon HD6490M for Windows 8.1:

although the html shows some 7600m Series, I'm not clear if that means the 7690m xt's, which are core 6770's, but I see its for Intel 4000 and NOT 3000's so it wouldn't work on my unit anyway
dv7t-6c00
W8.1 pro x64
Radeon 7690m xt / Intel 3000
for now all that seems to be available is the SP59850 -

I'm about to give up on Windows 8.1 .... I've a dv6-6190, i7-2630QM, 6770m + HD3000 and 8GB ram and it freezes/hangups every 10sec!! It's ridiculous, even when i'm writting fast it hangups! It's like lag, i dont understand why this happens... Even with only the HD3000, i should have a much better experience with an i7 and 8GB ram.
I just tried the 13.11 beta + hd3000(from leshcatlabs) ant it's the same BS.
Does anyone have this problem?
Will the 59850 solve this? Or isn't it gpu problem?
Help please :\ -
I have Windows 8.1 pro a DV7-6143 i7-2630QM, 6770m + HD3000 and 8GB ram. Almost the same setup as you and I do not have any problems so far.
AMD_Catalyst_13.11_Mobility_BetaV9.4 came out today but its working so good right know I don't want to chance it so I am sticking with v9.2.
Here is AMD_Catalyst_13.11_Mobility_BetaV9.4

Could it be from other driver? Since it installed all drivers automatically :\ -
Install the HP OEM driver (SP59850) have it working, than you can install the new Intel driver, (3347) and after a reboot, install the latest AMD beta 13.11.9.4 driver. don't uninstall the HP driver, just install right over it. My system also used SP59850. its the last HP driver for W8, and works on 8.1 too.
I did this with my 7690m xt which is just a 6770m at its core, and found no problems. I never thought it would work like this to update as AMD does not support these OEM Radeon cards, and Intel pretty much says the same thing.
I did make a full Image backup first, because I wasn't sure it was going to work.
I have W8.1 Pro x64 OS , only thing different is Device manager see's my 7690m xt as a 6700 series now, and GPU-Z says its a 6770M, but I knew that anyway, the HP 7690m xt is only changed by name and faster ram, other than that its a 6770m.
Just make sure you download the "mobility" driver from AMD. -
Why do people say you have to install the old HP combined driver first, and then the current Intel and AMD ones on top of that?
-
Because for some reason there is some part of that HP driver that seems to let the non OEM drivers install and work, If everything is cleaned, they don't seem to install right, strange but that's how it works. Even though the drivers are overwritten, something remains and fools the system.
Normally AMD does not support OEM radeon cards with their drivers, they say to go to your manufacturer for drivers, who may or may not bother updating, as in the case of HP, they still use a 2011 driver for W8. -
Must be some registry keys or something. It would be interesting if someone dug into it. It's still somewhat unreliable even after latest AMD changes.
-
There's one more question: am I supposed to still see the switchable graphics menu in CCC after upgrading? I installed the latest Intel driver, restarted, then 13.11 beta 9.5, restarted, and everything seems to work, only there are hardly any options in CCC (I enabled the advanced mode), and absolutely no trace of the switchable stuff.
-
dono what the deal is, my CCC is normal, I can switch as usual. I do have my system set to fixed" mode, it ONLY uses the Radeon while plugged in, it will switch to Intel if I go to battery. That might have something to do with it I dono. btw 13.11.5.9 gave me a glitch, the screen went black on me right as it got done installing, all I could do was shut off and restart and see, it booted OK and no problems after, but it was weird, 13.11.9.4 didn't do that.
Edit:
I Set the thing to Dynamic, just to see what would change, all still works OK, The screen that only has the 2 settings when set to "fixed" is not there now, the one that shows the different programs and what they are set to use is. if I click the CCC tray icon now it shows the Intel as active, the "switching" part comes in when you set the different programs to run with one or the other gpu. If you un plug and go to battery it remains on the Intel when set to power saving.
I can live with it set to this dynamic mode, I had it set to fixed mainly because i wanted to get as much use out of this Radeon thing as possible, but now that the drivers are updateable, I can deal with it set to use the Intel for most common stuff.
-
OK, just installed the "mobile" 13.12 and again OVER the already installed beta 13.11.9.5, all went as usual. all is in working order as before. So I'm now pretty much convinced these non OEM drivers are now installable, and am able to continue to do so, this is the 3rd one of these I have installed starting with 13.11.9.4 along with the Intel driver 3347 and so far no major problems.Everything is fine, only thing as I mentioned before was that the system now see's my HP OEM 7690m xt as some 6700 Series, which I said I was aware of anyway as its just a 6770m at its core, so nothing performance wish changed. its no issue to me what the damned card is seen as, its still AMD. With this 3rd install though I at least stopped complaining about it lololol.
I did find that leaving my COMODO AV on when installing these the AMD driver it somehow catches something and stops the completion process and the screen goes black on me, I had this the last time and couldn't figure what was the deal, I re booted using the on/off button as I couldn't see the damned screen, at re boot, things were OK, except I didn't have the CCC installed, and both monitors were on, laptop and external, the monitor issue was fixed by re setting the show only on 1 monitor, the CCC I had to re run the AMD setup again, but this time I closed my COMODO AV, and was able to see the popup system boxes that were installing in the back ground, all went OK and I have CCC back.
I could post the same CCC screen shot but its no different than the one I posted before with 13.11.9.5, it shows the updated driver in the info section, and the switchable graphics page when on "Fixed" mode. I reverted back to fixed from dynamic cause I got tired of setting the different cards for the different programs, this way I know the Radeon is being used all the time unless I go off plug and on battery. Only thing that's a pain is some of my own made screen savers don't like the Radeon card, and won't work unless I have the Intel 3000 set , oh well can't have everything , smirks.
btw I had the system set to "Fixed" when I installed this 13.12 over the installed drivers, some seem to say to use dynamic, some say fixed, I don't think it makes much differance as some don't have that option anyway. Main thing is in my case I DID NOT clean anything, I installed the first 13.11.9.4 over my installed OEM HP SP59850 driver, and have installed each update right over the others with no problems., just in case your interested, as all I read is all this "clean install" stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
installed OVER my existing driver
installed in FIXED mode
had to close my AV to get CCC installed
Radeon 7690m xt (6770m) (13.12 final)
Intel 3000 (3347) -
I still prefer the SP59850.as it's the only driver where the brightness control on the AMD card is working. I'm not gaming and the driver on 8.1 is rockstable. Don't see it necessary to install the latest drivers.
BTW I tried them also on a clean installation of 8.1 installing first the Intel drivers then the latest 13.12 mobility from AMD. Everything worked as it should except no brightness control on AMD. This won't never be fixed by AMD, only HP can solve this issue, but they won't release updated drivers for our HD6770m anymore. -
There is a brightness fix here: https://copy.com/ZY4DnbR8gf9B/Brightness_Fix.reg?download=1, this will fix your registry and brightness will work but sill not have acces to lower brightness
Personally i preffer to use latest drivers !
Try that Brightness Fix and post here if is work for you ! -
Is anyone going to update the first post? There were definitely new versions of several components since july.

Here is the best tool to fix brightness: UnifL Brightness Resolver Updated till v4.0 ← leshcatlabs.net
@Wrakor: Chrome detects because is a registry fix ,so it will modify registry, this is why chrome detects as malicious..nevermind you can use the tool from link and find the right for you, for me first work ! -
There is no fix which does work, also the Unifl. Brightness Resolver does nothing for my Laptop. I talked to HP support and they told me that their drivers are customized for their specific hardware, and the HD6770m won't be anymore supported.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-6031eo (Product Number LM005EA)
It has DUAL-AMD-SWITCHABLE-GRAPHICS.
"AMD Radeon HD 6650M" & "AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250"
All the switchable talk here happens about "INTEL + AMD".
There is no information about "AMD + AMD" switchable.
I am using drivers version 8.822.4.0 (sad)
I cannot upgrade to windows 8.1
Should I just sell my laptop ? -
-
I am done with that company, and this Pavilion junk was the first and last notebook I bought from them. They can shove their attitude towards users. -
-
Its not so much HP, although they could do better to update the AMD drivers, its more to do with the crap GPU's used by them, the only choice is to go with Gforce gpu's ( even HP changed this feature) they are the only ones that seemed to have figured out how to "support" all their cards right from their download site.
However to be fair, I have found that I CAN install the latest 13.12 final driver along with the last Intel driver (3347) right OVER my old sp59850 and have them both install and work. this was the 3rd time i had done it like this starting with 13.11.9.4, and each time they installed right over what I had installed. Before nothing BUT the "manufacturer" driver in my case sp59850 would install on my W8 with this 7690m xt (6770m) gpu.
So for now I have updated drivers and have had no issues with installation or use. However I also made my decision to never buy any switchable laptops again with a Radeon gpu, only Gfrce from now on. -
Victory friends !
After a long conversation with HP Staff i get this email back: "Claudiu, In response to your email i would like to inform the drivers will be updated very soon our research and development team is working on the same and as the drivers are updated we will notify you. I would also request you not to use any drivers apart from HP as those drivers are not tested by HP and that may make an impact on the performance of the PC".
tonormal likes this. -
Drivers for what model? I highly doubt they would bother updating anything for 2+ years old notebooks.
I am even surprised you got any sort of anwer from them, because HP support is among the most useless ones all around the world. -
-
That would be very unexpected. However if it's true, it would be logical for many more models to get an update, too.
Curious when we might see something.
