Thx peporoni. What about: Antiallising deferred off? Antiallising post medium? By aa you mean anisotropic filter? Im asking so i can put the same settings as yours to test. Perhaps a screenshot will be great.

Ok, dont worry. Tomorrow i will post here a screenshot, so you can see what settings im using. AA=Anisotropic Filter, yes, 2x.

But i will recommend you to overclock your gpu to 850/900.

fsliqbal, the last hp driver is 8.882 i believe

I am using a dv6t with a i5 and a 6770m and when i play BF3 every ten minutes or so (it varies), the game crashes with the message "AMD drivers successfully recovered". I am using the 8.882 drivers with a F.1B bios. I looked in the bios and there is no option for setting it to fixed GPU, could someone say where it is please although i don't think it is there.

Anyway does anyone know how to save me from these frustrating crashes.

This switch in the bios is only present for the dv6-61xx series. So, you must have a first generation dv6-60xx laptop then, right? If so, then do not worry yours was "fixed" from the get-go and the problem is caused by something else.

Cheers mate. To anyone having crashes, I suggest setting textures to 'high' instead of the default 'ultra' and give it a try. I will report back the results using peperoni's settings.

So I just went out and bought BF3.

I installed it off the disks, and started up the campaign to see how the game would run.

First off, the opening logos didn't even appear. Then, when I got to the menus, my mouse didn't work. Neither did the touchpad. I could only move with the arrow keys, and couldn't select any different options in the menus.

I was able to start the game using the arrow keys, but I got a black screen and some noises. I was eventually put into the game, but I had no HUD, and I couldn't see any on screen cues or anything. I could move and shoot however.

    What is the deal?

    My specs

    6770m 2gb
    6 gb ram
    i5 2.3ghz 2.9 w/ turbo

I am positive I have the latest drivers.

edit: I played the beta fine

I will check this. Does my internet browser have to be in the High Performance as well? Battlefield 3 does function through your internet browser, which in my case is Google Chrome.

on the medium preset i get around 35~45 fps, thats fine right?
My CPU temps reached as high as 94 so i set coolsense to coolest and the fps is still the same but temps just dont go over 78

Speaking for dynamic mode, no you don't need to set browser in high performance. But don't think about it, if you're doing any gaming on your laptop switch to fixed mode and then you will be able to select on the fly from windows which graphics card you want to use and that selection will stay until you change it again.

I still get texture glitches (the terrain becomes transparent in a grid of diamonds) and if I look away and look back it usually disappears. This is a common issue I beleive and with the latest drivers I still get it.

My biggest issue is that the game always freezes (usually when zooming with scope and turning fast) and I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE out and if I use Task Manager, I can see the process BF3.exe running and using processor but the game is frozen and I have to end task.

This always happens when I don't have Morphological Filtering on in Catalyst Control Center, and usually never happens when I turn it on.
Problem is that Morphological Filtering takes a huge FPS drop.
And also I don't really like it, because it makes the edges of everything blend and alters the feel of the game.

I have the latest drivers from HP and from AMD.
Could my combination of drivers (HP and AMD) be causing issues, what is the best way to go about removing all graphics drivers and installing again. Windows also recommends an update for the 6770m but I didin't do it cause I tried it before and it is an older version of the driver (at least in Device Manager).

I guess what I am asking is that is it enough to Uninstall drivers from Control panel (AMD CCC everything) and from Device manager and not use Driver Sweeper or something. Could me installing preview driver and uninstalling them multiple times cause issues, does it not just use the latest one as identified by GPU-z or something?

Also my 1280x720 screen resolution is missing ever since the required update for BF3. If I reinstall any driver for GPU I get it back but after a reboot, the option is not listed anywhere and I cannot use 720p which would get better performance than 1366x768.

Anyone else have this issue and any solutions?
What are the latest driver numbers from HP, and AMD
I think (will have to check) that I have HP October Drivers and the latest 11.11a from AMD

is it normal, that i get crashes and bluescreens in bf3 when im using fixed mode in bios and turn on the 6770m in the ccc ?
if i let it in dynamic mode and the notebook switches automatic to the 6770m im not getting any crashes at all ?
i have crashes ONLY in bf3 so far.
no crashes with 3d mark ventage or sc2 in fixed mode even with oc.

its important because i need the fixed mode for oc.
ps: can i fix the crashes in "fixed mode" with a new driver ?
im asking because i just installed the bios update today, befor i only used the dynamic mode and it was all fine with playing bf3.

    thanks

For bf3 crashing I suggest using peporoni's settings posted above as a test. With the latest hp driver and setting textures to ultra I had frequent crashes. Lowering that to high and all others to medium fixed that for me. Most people here are you using fixed mode due to the various issues dynamic is causing to games (no opengl support with 6770, full screen problems, black bar on the right in dx11 games etc.). If I remember correctly, using dynamic mode with bf3 and the previous hp driver (only hp driver installed, not anything else from ati) I had no crashes but the performance was lower and I was forced to run the game at windowed mode.

Uninstalling hp drivers that have been mixed with ati's require the use of driver sweeper to be sure that everything is wiped out. Bf3 runs best for me only with hp's latest drivers. I had problems with ati's.

I have the Manual Switching model that came before the newer one. HP's drivers are custom made to switch between the two GPU's. The AMD CCC Updates and Driver updates are used when the AMD Graphics unit is used, correct?
I get the most stable gameplay on AMD 11.9 but the performance is worse FPS wise...
What Drivers are the latest from HP? And would you guys recommend using just HP's without the AMD Drivers.
Simply put, how does the driver work?
HP Made custom ones to switch, but once AMD is used, is AMD Driver used?

With 875/950, how much time continued can I play without overheating the notebook? Do you use some refrigerating system?. What resolution do you use?

Best thing you can do is just test it yourself. Clock it up to 875/950, run something like Furmark. What you'll probably see (assuming it's a stable clock for your card) is that the temperature will rise over the first few minutes and then stabilize at a certain level after about 5-10 mins. Let it run for like, an hour, and see where you end up at. If it's below, say, 93 degrees, you should be fine.

with coolsense on performance temps for CPU rise up as much as 94 for me.
Therefore i put coolsense to coolest and play BF3 and with overclock my GPU temps are 72 and CPU temps dont rise beyond 78

    What is MSAA?

And are 11.8.3 and 11.9 AMD drivers? Also, are you guys using Fraps to monitor your FPS?

In BF3 its called Antialiasing Deferred. Don't turn it on..

11.8.3 are modded AMD driver. I'm using MSI Afterburner to monitor FPS.

Idunno, the latest HP drivers made me crash the least, I just tried using 8.93 (Nov. 18th) today and it was crashing way too often...it does run BF3 quite smoothly though.

Anyone here playing BF3 with 8.93?

It does work fine but 8.93 seems way smoother for me (Nov. 18th) but I get too many crashes so I can't use it...SIGH.

I tried their 11.11A one. Everything works as advertised but for BF3, crashing is still pretty common for me.

I'd assume their install for 11.12WHQL or 12.1 Preview would be good still.

I'm having an issue where BF3 is crashing every now and then, it also stutters to weird textures consistently, only occasionally going away.

i would say yes the cpu is a 2630qm and the gpu is a 6770 those are fine for gaming the only drawback to that laptop I see is the display as it only goes to 768 resolution but then again that low of a res may help the gpu work better

and as far as finding the 8.882 driver I think this thread already tells you somewhere lol

8.921 is a no go, however 8.882 has been really stable so far, albeit with a performance loss :\ hopefully there's a fix for this in the future

it could play any rts game like starcraft2 no problem it can play bf3 and mw3 you might have to change some settings to medium but it plays and with bf3 you have to have the right driver because the new 6770 drivers are having problems playing bf3 like I said before the only thing bad about this laptop is the display because of its low resolution but it if you are looking at one find out what it all has as far as ram and how high of a resolution it can go to
