When I check in the settings it just says plug and play monitor and default monitor. I wish they would make it easy to tell what you have.

I have the 1440x900 brightview and I do not have any dead pixels. After I had ordered this screen I almost cancelled to get the better one. I'm glad I didn't, I'm just as happy with this screen! [ :D]

Even though manufactures say that 6-8 bad pixels is exceptable to them. "0" bad pixels is excepable to me! If my laptop, LCD desktop screen or any other LCD screen I own would have come with bad pixels, I would would have sent it back. I believe you have 30 days to send it back no matter what. Well, bad pixels, one or eight is to much when your spending $1400-$2000. Every manufacture that sends out any peace of equiptment should have quality control steps in order to ensure your getting a perfect product. Don't let the 6-8 bad pixels that the manufacture says is cause for replacement stop you. Get what you paid for....a perfect running laptop!

To tell the difference between screens...the non brightview is obvious..no shiny surface..the second bright view has a native res of 1440x900 (in your setting this should be the max that the second bright view will go) and the third bright view has a native res of 1440x1050.

Actually I don't think they are better materials, with the high end screen....it has 150 more pixels from the top to the bottom of the screen, hence making the things on your desktop appear smaller..which gives you more screen real estate. Now if the contrast ratio is the same between these screens (which I think they are) Then the only difference between the high end screen and the middle screen is 150 pixels running verticle. The reason I think the contrast ratio is the same is because to me....the high end screen and the middle screen seemed to be the same brightness and the colors were vibrant in both screens....one just had a tad more real estate.

it's its a full work day passed and no changes on the shipping status. everytime i call they are like "call us by the end of business hours, by then you should definately have your trackking number".
i'm getting quite upset about this whole wait... have the other "14th people" gotten any updates on their laptops?

someone suggested that we can buy this ram:
    http://www.pagecomputers.com/cgi-bin/page/B1535697.html

is this the right type of ram? just want to double check before i place my order. i'm thinking of getting 256m, then buy the ram above and just stick it in the notebook. will it work that i mix (the one that comes with the notebook) and match (with the one listed above)? thanks.

Thanks JosephCruz! I'll try the your suggestion!! But now I'm not sure if I should wait.. argg....[B)]

I just tried to use my $50.00 coupon and it only gave me $24.99. What's up with that! Anyone else used theirs yet?

I tried to call about the coupon but you guys have the phones tied up with order status questions! LOL!

Hold tight guys. After I was told mine was delayed it shipped about 3 days later. It's worth the wait!

Hi, can you use the $50 coupon on the purchase that you have already made for the notebook? So whatever total amount minus $50. Can you do that, or it has to be a brand new transaction, meaning you have to spend the money on somthing else. pleae advise.

oh wow.. just got off the phone with hpshopping and honestly these people have no shame. the first representative says that my order is gonna be delayed till april 4th. then i talk to the supervisor, and she says it's gonna be delayed till 20th...20th!! can you believe that a full 2 months after i put in the purchase. well she recommended that i send them an email requesting a downgrade for the harddrive.
i'm really really really annoyed. I got a 2 gigs of ram waiting for a computer that's delayed till eternity.. I think i'll have to return it to to memmory4less.com. if anyone wants to buy it off of me we can work out a deal. i also have a lapcool2 that i probably won't be able to put to use...
arghhgg.. anyone interested with these items email me at serparlak -at- yahoo.com. don't expect a great deal though, it's not like i'm gonna let go off them that cheap.

sorry about the double post, but one question.
does the ram for x6000 work for alienware's area 51m-7700? it says it's ddr2 sodimm, i dunno about pins...and it accepts 533mhz.

actually let me extend my question...
will the ram i've got (the one that tacjam recommended) work on dell 9300s or the xps gen 2?
    thanks

Holy crap man, what's up with HP? My order also hasn't shipped. Has been delayed twice and is estimated to go out on the 16th (tomorrow). The HP reps/supervisors I talk to keep saying "Oh, we just got some parts in and your order should definitely go out then, maybe even earlier :D" That's a load of bull. I just can't wait to see what compensation a third delay brings me. Hopefully a bigger discount, maybe 20%? Hell, by the time they get this thing to me it should almost be free. Tomorrow it will be exactly 5 weeks since I placed that order. Jeez...

I've experienced my first problem with the x6000.

I plugged my SanDisk cruzer mini 256mb thumb drive into the first USB port of the right side. The freaking thing got stuck! Took me an hour of wigling and finially I had to insert a stick pin (bending the side of the port) in order to depress one of the "pins" that hold the usb plug in place. Should I send it back for them to fix it? With all these shipping delays ... I don't know if I'd want to wait that long just to fix a usb port ... I've got the 1yr accidental, so maybe I'll wait ...

OMG, after exactly 5 weeks, I no longer have "Tracking number provided upon shipment." I'm torn between jumping for joy and wishing it had been delayed again so I could get further discounts.

Oh what a fun day with my laptop. First the stuck thumb drive, now ... dead laptop!

Had turned it off for a bit here at work cause I had to go to a meeting. Came back went to power it on, barley audible click and nothing. Game over. Tried all the normal tricks on my own (take out battery, power drain laptop, power from AC only, power from battery only, different wall outlet, tested wall outlet for power) and it's dead in the water. While doing this, noticed a faint smell coming from the back, I'm guessing fried power supply. Oh what joy! Now I get to send it back.

You know what? I think you may have shorted out your motherboard. When you placed that paper clip into the USB port...I wonder if shorted out the motherboard? If your laptop was on when you did this, it is highly possible that that + contacted the - which will fry your motherboard. If it was off, and you distorted the contacts to the point where they touch each other...when you booted up your laptop it shorted out then.

Sorry for being a worrywart, but the impatience still kills me:
My notebook is in Shanghai right now with the tracker saying it arrived at FedEx Ramp at 8:23pm and then at 11:23 has Package status: Package in FedEx location. So, where does it go from here? Will it be waiting in customs for 2 days like most people have said, even for the 1-2 day shipping?

It could be your AC power supply. I posted about this a couple pages back. They sent the wrong power supply with my laptop! They sent the 135w power supply instead of the 180w it's suppose to have. It was taking 6 hours to charge the battery with the wrong one. Might be worth looking into.

I don't know the rules of the forum for linking to anything, but I figured I would let people here that are perpetually waiting know that I have mine up on eBay.
My car did a neat trick where some metal parts went through other metal parts that they aren’t supposed to... anyway I have to put a down payment on my new car.. so I'm selling my new x6000

    Compaq Presario X6000
    - Win XP Home
    - Pentium 4 540 w/HT3.2GHz
    - 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1680x1050)
    - 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 533MHz (2x512MB)
    - 60 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
    - DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo
    - 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600
    - 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster
    - 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

The buy it now price is a little high (figured I may as well try) but I set the reserve for around the same price as you can get those specs from HP.

So if there is any of you tired of waiting.....

This thing is still new. I have used it maybe 12 hours worth (I work too much)

    Anyway here's the link

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6752510017&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

or if for some reason the link doesn't work, just do a search for 6752510017 on ebay.

I really love this laptop, and I am sorry that I have to sell it, but my girlfriend won't let my use her car forever =(

    Tim

I see they raised the price of XP Pro too from 49 to 69 dollars. Also they are now giving an extra 50 dollar instant rebate on the ZD8000. Hmm, you can configure the 8000 now for about the same price I got my X6000 for minus the 7200 rpm hard drive tho. But you have the option now of course to get the 6xx series processors.

    X6000, 3.2 Ghz, 512meg ram, 256 ATI X600 video, 17" Brightview Screen, 60gig 7200rpm Hard Drive, 8X DVD Burner, 54g 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster

Upgrading from a Sager Celeron 500, 192meg ram, 6gig 4200 RPM Hard Drive, 8 meg ATI Rage LT Video Card, 15" Screen, 4X DVD player.

No matter what they do, with that 64mb card, they got no dice to me. I feel for those waiting to get this notebook for the 256 to come back. Oh well such is life. I still need my ram!

good luck to everyone waiting for this laptop. i have cancelled my order yesterday never to order it again. but hey i got a $50 dollar coupon regardless, so i ordered the backpack.
i think i'm gonna go for a dell 9300. Given that it's battery runs 2-3 times more than the x6000 and it has a better video card option the 100-200 extra that i need to pay for it doesn't really hurt.
but there's always the temptation for and xps gen 2....

I ordered on the 21st Feb given a shipment date of 14th of this month.
then they told me that it's gonna be delayed till april 20th. That's a full 2 month period with order and expected delivery. Hey i can get a XPS gen 2 that's not even in production by then.

I kept on calling around the 14th to make sure it was shipping out on time, and guess what to my luck they found out on the day it was supposed to ship that they ran out of parts. I mean either you have the parts or you don't, not like by miracle you'll find a couple thousand of the 7200rpm drives lying around. I kinda hate the fact that they "find out" that it won't shipt out for another full 1 month on the day it was promised to ship.
