I ordered my x6000 on 2/24/2005, and I called today to find out why it didn't ship on March 17th. They said they are not expecting a shipment until APRIL 27th...
-
It would install fine but when you hit play it would flash a couple times then message would pop up and tell me to turn on hardware acceleration in DXDIAG. I checked it was turned on, so I ran all tests said everything was fine.
reinstalled three times with no luck did a fresh boot of windows without all the hp crap still same problem. called HP like twenty times and they were no help.
It played Doom3, Farcry, both Prince of Persia's, Vampire Mascarade bloodlines, and silent hill 3 and 4 and a whole bunch of other games i have lying around, but the 256mb card would not play HALO while the 128mb did and it looked great.
anyone who has this game please try on your system and post your results.
damn me for being so picky[]

Do you have the omega drivers or the regular drivers? I would try the opposite that you have now. Something appears to not be kicking over right. I am also assuming you have all the updates for the PC version patches, ect. Did you look on the support page for halo and see if there is a known issue with this?

I'm sure the video can't be upgraded, very few laptops would have the ability to upgrade the video card.
As for the Processor I can't see why it wouldn't be upgradable, the 6xx series intel processors are the same socket and I'd think they would work on this motherboard but I'm not certain. I'm sure tho that if you bought the 5xx series processor you would be able to upgrade that to a faster one later on.

What is great about these laptops is that they have an expandable PCIx slot on the side. There is a very good possibility that someone will make a video card upgrade for that. Assuming they figure the whole heat thing out.. Just a thought... [

Hi Everybody.
I'm new here to posting but have been around since early February keeping up with the X6000 talk. I ordered mine on Feb 25th. It was suppose to ship March 18th. I just got this email from HP:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for your recent notebook order. As part of the customization of your computer, you ordered a 60GB 7200RPM hard drive. Unfortunately we have experienced an unforeseen shortage of this component.
Currently we can offer you three options:
1) Downgrade to the 80GB 5400 RPM hard drive and we will credit your account for $25 which is the price difference between the two hard drives. The order will have a 7 business day turn around time (estimated ship date) from the time you notify us and we change the order. We will issue you a $100 hpshopping.com coupon.
2) Wait for the 60GB 7200 RPM hard drive which would put your estimated ship date on or before 4/27/05. After your notebook ships, we will issue a 10% credit to your order
3) Cancel the current order and if you reorder a new notebook with a different configuration, we will offer you a 10% discount on your new purchase.
--------------------------------------------------------------
So what do you all think? My configuration right now includes the older slower memory (1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 400MHZ) and the older CPU option (3.2GHz Pentium 4 540 w/HT). Also to be noted, I ordered the 8X DVD +/- Combo, no dual layer. The dual layer is a free upgrade now. If I cancel and reconfigure a similar system selecting these 3 upgrades along with the 80Gig 5400 hard drive, the price is 200 dollars more. But I will get a 10% discount, so it's almost the same. Also, the PC would be ready (supposedly) on April 7th. So, is it worth it or should I wait for the faster hard drive? Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Current order:

Customized Presario X6000 Notebook:

I just got off the phone with HP and there is a delay in any order with the 7200RPM HD.. And he did confirm the discounts however, i don't know if you can only get them once you have been sent the email. Again mine isn't supposed to ship until the 29th... so i'm kinda torn on if i should call and cancel and reorder now and complain until i get the discounts or wait it out. I really think the 7200RPM drive is worth waiting for but I don't know if waiting till the 27th of April to get the drive is worth it.
-Bryan -
I wonder if the retailer really has the drives in stock.
Just for Grins I conifgured a Dell I9300 and it also states that
the 7200 drive will delay your order. -

Robpatt, I'd get the 7200rpm drive no matter what you do if your an impatient person. Everything runs so much faster it seems with the 7200rpm drive. If you do any kind of video editing or gaming you'll see a big difference. Booting is much faster, launching applications is faster, basically it improves the speed of the laptop making it more like a desktop model. If you were building a desktop, would you put in a 5400rpm drive? No, you'd put in the fastest hard drive you could, so why do something different for the laptop?
Believe me, I came from a speedy 6 gig 4200rpm hard drive in my old laptop to this and I know, you really can't compare the difference because the old laptop was a dinosaur but just booting up the two I see a big difference. []

Has anyone heard of this memory, Rosewill? Here is a link to it on Newegg.com. It's only 69.50 for only 512meg for PC3200 ram so I'm thinking it's not good quality memory.

Ahh, just noticed it's not DDR2 memory and only DDR, not sure of the difference.

Wow, I finally got my x6000 on Monday after a month and a half waiting period. I must say, this thing is beautiful, but holy crap it is a beast as far as power goes. My config is as follows:
3.6GHz P4 w/ HT
2.0GB ddr400 RAM
WSXGA+ w/ Brightview
100GB 5400rpm HD
256MB Mobility Radeon x600
DVD burner w/ dual layer
Wireless w/ Bluetooth
(180W power supply)
I just ordered a notebook cooler because this thing gets hotter than a mug. Like honestly, I don't know why the fans even turn off. When they do turn off it's only for like 10 seconds, and then right back on. I don't think I'm even going to consider OC'ing the radeon simply because the heat is already along the lines of an OC'ed machine. You can hear the fans changing speeds with every application I open, and the hottest part is the HD. Wooooo, that heat gets worrisome sometimes, but it's manageable. I love the screen though. Damn, I just can't go back to my 17" 1024x768 85Hz flat CRT. But seriously, any thoughts on the heat issue? Maybe some settings I'm overlooking? And also, when I run benches in SANDRA, it says that the clock frequency for the RAM is not in accordance with the specifications for the mobo, what's up with that? -

I recently ordered and returned a Compaq X6000 because I realized it was just too big for me. I actually ordered it off of this forums recommendations and I also noticed that most people are looking for the higher speed DDR2 RAM. I ordered a gig stick of the Kingston PC2-4200 DDR2 533MHZ RAM from Newegg and now I'm kind of stuck with it. If anyone here is looking for a gig of ram for cheap please reply to this post or email me. Right now I'd let it go for $150.00 even though I paid $240.00 for it.

Frenzy, from what I've heard that is a good drive, good to know that it fits in these things. I was going to order my X6000 without a burner and order the NEC drive. I have had 3 different NEC burners and love them. They are really good quality drives. The last drive I had, a NEC ND2500A, burnt over 500 DVD's before it broke down and that was partially my fault. The tray got off track when I bumped the drawer when I ejected the tray. I performed surgery on it and got it lined back up (a miracle, never have had luck getting the tray back on track before) but when I got it back together I must have broken an electrical contact to the eject button cause now it won't eject or even try when you push the eject button. Needless to say I tossed it and bought a new NEC 3520 Dual Layer and have had no problems with it at all. Burns faster as an External USB drive hooked into the X6000 than the internal 8X burner in the X6000.
The burner in the X6000 that I have is an LG something or other burner, guess I should have opted for the Dual Layer and spent the extra 25 bucks. []
So, not sure what options are out there when you order the X6000 now but I'd STRONGLY recommend going for the Dual Layer burner because it's a better quality drive.

It looks great in the dark, I took mine outside here on a very sunny day and had trouble seeing the screen but I'm blind as a bat, hehe. I don't think any laptop looks good outdoors truthfully unless you are in the shade somewhere.

Howdy, I'm new and I'm looking at a x6050 from our Future Shop/Best Buy stores up here in Canada. So far I've read everything you guys have talked about, and the x6000 seems fabulous.
My question is, how's the screen in darker rooms or places with a lot of sunlight? It seems awfully reflective to me, and watching a DVD on the demo in the store wasn't that great.

the 35% off deal didn't work for the xps Gen2 but it did work for the 9300 and I grabbed one. (now they have $800 off instead) I returned my x6000. It was beautiful, but it was too hot, and the video card let me down.
I got a 9300 with a 1.8GHz Pentium M 256MB Geforce Go 6800, and everything else I got with my x6000 for $200 less... I have heared people had problems with the Dell screens. But I figured I would judge for myself. I'll let you know how I think it stacks up to the x6000.
To the person asking about the 6xx P4 in the x6000 yes it works. I did it myself with a friends chip. Surprisingly the 6xx ran hotter than the 5xx of the same speed (3.2GHz) That was the nail in the coffin with the x6000 for me. I told myself if the 6xx P4 ran cooler
I would keep it, but due to the medeocre 3D performance and running so hot, I decided the x6000 was not for me.

haha so yeah. I guess BrightView is OK?

Hey Joseph I sent you an email about the memory. Just thought I'd post in the forum in case you don't check your email often.
Thanks -
This is slightly off topic, but I ordered the x6000 with the 7200 rpm hdd when there was a shortage and still got it on time. Is there any way to check the rpm on my hdd? Would the details in device manager be different to a hdd of a different rpm?
I appreciate your help.
Also, JoCruz, what games did you get for the psp? -
I live in Canada and saw the futureshop deal.
i got my x6000 from the states and brought it back.
the x6050 is over priced in canada.
for the price the x6050 is being sold here you could get a ton of things on the x6000 from the states. -

oh my bad. the ram i'm selling is 1 gig. the kingston value ram. I got it from memmory4less.com and kazim over there is trying to charge me 20% restocking. I'd rather make someone else's day over here than his.

restocking fees are good way to keep people from returning hardware that they just dont feel like owning anymore after opening, using and abusing them.
