what version Brigthview did you get. I got the high resolution one. Maybe if you got the low res one, they ran out of screens?
Just a thought, I feel for you though and hope you get yours out real soon.

I have just checked again and it still hasn't shipped. Maybe I'll call customer service and bug them. Since I've spent all this money they can at amuse me for a bit. [

I ordered mine with a 256 stick and bought my 512's off newegg. So that shouldn't delay it.

I just called and talk to HP. They said that their ship time is 10pm EST. Thats when all the info gets updated for that day. He also said that it ships from Shang Hi (not sure on spelling) to Alaska then the actual ship time comes into effect ie. next day, 2 day, 5-7 day.
He said my laptop was built and ready to ship! And then he said that the shipping was upgraded for it by HP. It would be about 4 days shipping instead of the 5-7 I picked. Maybe thats how some of you guys got yours so quick.
Just a little info in case your interested. []

I got home and found my notebook waiting for me. I opened it saw no scratches on it or screen damage, and the screen is beautiful. Its time to format and get all the drivers.
I used my operating system, didn't see the use in paying 49 bucks for something I have, plus I don't have the extra junk installed that I don't want.
If you have any questions about the notebook feel free to ask. I only have 256mb ram right now and will have that for about 2 to 3 weeks so performances tests aren't a good idea as of yet.

thanks tacjam.
I am now a proud owner of a x6000 and very happy with it. the design and feel are awesome. I like the protective piece that comes between the notebook display and keypad. I am going to keep it and use it to help keep things clean. The notebook gets really warm to the right of the touch pad, I think I will get that cooler soon. Don't have any real complaints. That says alot because the more money I throw down on anything, the pickier I become.
Hope this helps anyone out looking for a notebook, I comfortably recommend the x6000 to anyone looking for a strong reliable notebook that they can do virtually anything they want on.

I ordered my X6000 on February 10th through techdepot.com (I work for one of their sister companies) using their build-to-order configurator, which goes directly through Compaq/HP.
It shipped on February 22nd via FedEx, just like an hpshopping.com order, coming from the facility in Shanghai, China.
As of today, I see this on my tracking info:
-----------------------------------
Feb 24, 2005 | 12:01 am | Package status | SHANGHAI CN | Delay beyond our control
-----------------------------------
It still lists the original estimated arrival date of February 28th, but this new information is still a little disconcerting. I'm trying to be optimistic, but I really hope my new notebook isn't delayed too long!
For reference, I ordered mine with:
-Pentium4 3.0 GHz
-17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1680x1050)
-512MB 400MHz DDR2 (2x256)
-60GB 7200 RPM HDD

Remember anything worth having is worth waiting for and nothing worth having comes easy.
Don't cancel the notebook out of spite. It is an awesome eye catcher. Most people at work that i told about the x6000 when they heard the weight and felt it when I brought it to work, they didn't like it. Once they opened it and saw the design, and especially after they saw the quality of the display, they fell in love.
Trust me, you won't find better cheaper or equal to this. For those that love good displays this is the best for the price. Just think about it a 17in widescreen notebook for under $1500. That is unheard of. This notebook is worth the weight and definately a long term solid investment. The Keypad is nicely laid out and the notebook is comfortable to use. The screen welcomes your eyes and the performance becons you to do more. Wait for it guys its worth it. For those who decided to buy it based off this forum thread, congrats.
You can never hear anything better, then from common people who use the notebook in there day to day lives.

So has anyone swapped the memory out yet? Want to know if both slots easily accessible, Thanks!

not sure what a FIR port is but somewhere in this thread tacjam explains why the higher memory is better, basically it has to do with latency. Search this thread one of the pages has the answer to the memory question. congrats on your purchase I know you will love it.

Well I just ordered my x6000 on Monday... I guess my configuration was one of the most delayed because I got quoted for a build date of March 14!! Oh well, this thread really inspired my confidence in getting a compaq over an HP zd8000. I have always thought of Compaqs as inferior machines (make fun of my G/Fs computer all the time) but I have noticed an increase in their reliability and performance since they were sold to HP. Hearing how all of your systems are doing makes me feel alot better about Compaqs.
I originally purchased a zd7030 from Compusa and it was pretty cool. I didnt play any games on it but I did do some video editing with Adobe premier and it did pretty well! But of course I wasnt satisfied so I returned it to get the zd7060 since Circuit City was having a really good sale. Make a long story short, I waited a day too long to buy it and the sale ended and I havent had a computer since...
A couple of questions:
The zd7030 I bought had FIR port, does the x6000 have one?
I am not too familiar with how memory speed works but I am trying to get the best possible memory config for my x6000. I want 2x1024mb 533mhz sticks (kingston) but the default memory is only 400mhz. Does putting faster memory into the computer have any adverse effects??
Thanks for all of your posts about the x6000....soo much more helpful than any review!!!
X6000 Config:
XP pro
17" bright view WSXGA
P4 3.2ghz w/HT
256mb RAM (u-grading to 2x1024mb 533mhz)
256mb x600 g-card
60gig 7200rpm HDD
wifi w/ speedboost
-
Both slots are not easily accessable, in my opinion. They are staggered and stacked one on top of the other. However its not a problem to get it done. It works just like other notebook memory installations now at days.

No I don't think it has Infrared on the X6000, I checked since I use it to sync my cellphone.
-
Oh well, its not that useful anyway, just kind of cool. I used it to sync my palm and it took a long time if I was loading anything bigger than a few kb.
-
I just got an email from that says my shipment is delayed. That really F*****G pisses me off [
!]. It has a new ship date of 3/6. Add on about 5 days for shipping and it will be over a month to get! I'm thinking about cancelling the order and just living with my desktop.
That is just such crap, after 2 phone calls I was told it was built and ready to go.

I think the delays are normal for any new model that you configure. Since the ZD8080 uses the same screen and every Circuit City in the U.S. probably gets 10 of them, and Fry's get the X6000, I think they are apt to run out of parts. Seeing how one hard drive manufacture makes a 7200rpm drive (Hitachi) I can see a 7200rpm hard drive notebook getting held up too. Then add the fact that every ZD8080 gets a gig of ram...and thier goes your 512mb modules. I am positive that that when people are standing in line to give you money for your product...your doing everything in your power to get that product to your customer....in the computer industry, you want your customers to be happy and come back. Don't believe me, ask the former employees of Packard Bell! I know the waiting is a killer...just hang in thier, it will arrive soon....meanwhile, I'll just play a game of doom 3 [

Well I just got off the phone with them. They said the delay is the screen. And that the list is very long. Since I already have the new ram sitting here I'll probably keep it. I told them on the phone that I am thinking of cancelling it. Maybe I'll call back tomorrow and see if they'll throw in a year accidental warranty on it and keep the $50 gift card. [8D]

Tacjam.
I downloaded the utility. It rocks. I like how compact and right to the point it is. It gets kindof hot to the right of the touch pad so I am going to buy a cooler probably today.
Another tip for anyone who has this notebook. Oilly hands make the outer case look bad real quick. I waxed the outer cover to make it nice and shiny. Now when I touch the outside it doesn't get all finger printed up. Others may want to use this tip if they haven't already.

to answer everyone speculation. I ordered mine on the 7th and got it early, I ordered it with the high end brightview display. I guess mine was built before the shortage.
Anyways, I agree with the comment about PC makers wanting to deliver on time as promised and don't delay on purpose. I work a technical support job myself and deal with over the phone support.
If they are giving you straight answers, then they know what they are doing and are on the ball. I wouldn't worry too much about the ship date, I'm sure they want it out of there stock as much as you want it in your hands. Plus they admit their mistakes and upgrade your shipping for free. Atleast they are meeting you half way.
When I got my dell I9200 there was a delay and when I called I got text book answers and the run around. Hearing what you all are saying about tech support is refreshing.

no infrared on the X6000, ZD8000 has it. If your computer supports faster memory (which these do) no adverse effect, just better performance. Anyway here is your Infrared solution...I am proud to be able to help you sync your PDA []

Hi everyone.
Yesturday I went ahead and bought a notebook cooler. The cooler electronics are the longer they will last, so I got one right away. It fits pretty well for the x6000, although the x6000 is larger by far, I was able to get it to fit comfortably under the notebook.
I decided to get the Targus one becaause it was right there at bestbuy and came out to the same price after you add shipping and handling to the newegg ones. I figured get it sooner and somewhere where its easier to take back.
Here is a link to what I bought if you have any questions about it feel free to ask. There is a higher model that comes with 4USB ports on it, but its bulkier and more expensive. I paid around $32 with tax.

For those of you who like to lounge while you use your notebook, I recommend a notebook desk. I got mine off of ebay brand new for $62.00 including shipping. If you try to buy these retail you will pay excessive amounts. I've seen them go as high as $375. Find it on ebay.
Here is the exact type of desk I got.

Wow!! I just have to say that the customer service center at HP is amazing!! I dont think Ive ever waited a shorter amount of time to actually speak to a real person (who was extremely nice by the way) I called to make sure I didnt need to mail in the AD care package within ten days sice I dont have my computer yet. The CS rep was very helpful and quick in answering my question. I also asked about an updated ship time for my x6000 but looks like Ill just be waiting for a looong time. Oh well, its actually kind of good when it is set to arrive since it will be right at the beginning of spring break for me. If it arrived earlier, Id be screwed...right in the middle of finals! This way, Ill have plently of time to configure it before I acutally have any real work due. Three weeks to go....
-
Ok, that desk is sweet, like you said that one is a bit too expensive for my blood but I'd love to have one. I looked at the design and started thinking to myself "Gee, that doesn't look too complicated, with the right tools you could build one yourself". But since I'm a lazy old geezer I doubt I'd ever try it.
The cooler tho, that maybe something I will have to look into, another friend of mine that works with laptops alot told me to go buy one as soon as I get my laptop. Luckily for me, my company messed up my W2 form and instead of putting my Medical Spending Account under Medical Spending Account they put it under Dependent Care Account. They said it would be too hard to change it and they are just gonna make things right and cut me a check for 500 bucks. Hehe, guess I'll have some disposable cash coming my way soon.

Picked up my laptop on my lunch break. This thing is freaking sweet. I didn't think I ordered the high end screen, but upon checking the resolution in the display control panel, it looks like I did. Man am I glad I did, the display is amazing. Right now I'm reformatting it with WinXp Pro while I finish up at work. I can't wait to get it home to finish the software install and really give a stress test.
Again, thanks to all posters from pages 4 and earlier (I think). You all made the decision to buy this laptop one of the easiest decisions I have made.
Ordered: Compaq x6000, 3.0ghz, SXGA+, 512mb, Ati x600 256, 60gig 7200, WiFi+Bluetooth -
Mine got delivered this morning so I went to pick it up... I'm installing stuff on it now!
The display is beautiful, and the graphics card (256mb x600) benchmarks just a little less than my desktop card (128mb ATI Radeon 9700 Pro). I can deal with that.
Yeah, it does get very warm... looks like I'm buying a cooler, too...
It's quick, responsive and an all-around sexy machine so far. Loving it! I hope everyone who ordered gets theirs soon! -

I formatted the HDD and installed WinXp Pro. In device manager, I have a PCI Device that shows as not having a driver installed, no description given for device. I used the included HP driver CD to install all the drivers & some of the software, I just chose Drivers, OSEnhancements & Hot keys, .Net Framework and DVD player.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
So far my only gripe is the spot just right of the touch screen does get pretty warm, why would they locate the battery charger right there? (rhetorical question)
