Sounds like you need a cooler too. I got a cooler for that exact issue and it ended that problem altogether. I went to HP site and downloaded every driver possible and put it on a disc I now possess. I don't have anything not installed on the system. I refuse to use the software that came with the system for drivers. I like to make sure I have the latest updates so I get it directly off the site. Doing this may solve your problem.

Thanks for the advise, I'll do that when I get home. They won't let me connect my laptop to the network at work.

Anyone using the Omega Drivers? I've never used them before. Are they worth installing on this laptop?

For those of you that showed intrest. Basically the two tables on the laptop desk are adjustable by height and by angle. The angle swivles almost 180 degrees comfortably so you can position the two tables on either side, which ever is easier for you. Plus the two tables adjust independently of eachother.

I already have one and use it for the x6000 with the cooler I bought. If you have specific questions feel free to ask. I wouldn't pay more than $70 for one including tax and S&H. Unless you want it to be designer. I just wanted it to be functional, but its not ugly or unattractive by any means.

These things are sweet and eliminate uncomfortable positions for notebook usage.

Hey, there is an alternative to buying this notebook. There is a Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2
that will blow this or any other laptop away. It has the new Nvidia 6800 Ultra video card in it and for to get the equivalent specs as the X6000 it will only cost you a mere 3500 dollars. Well, that is if you don't mind only having a 2.16 ghz processor or something like that. The one I configured was about 3850 with 2 gig of ram, lol. I could almost buy 3 X6000's for that and have my own lan party and supply the machines.

Opps, I just wanted to edit this and make sure no one thought I was replying to their posts. I was just on Tomshardware and saw his article on this Dell and thought it was funny how much more this Dell was. Configuring one with the exact same specs as the X6000 I ordered except that the fastest processor offered from Dell on this is a 2.13 Ghz, figured out at 2787 dollars. The X6000 I ordered was 1476. That's a hell of a difference in price just to get a better Video Card.

Tell me about it, they look cool. I need one for when I'm sitting on the couch in front of the Big Screen so I can play and watch TV at the same time.

Way over my head. Prescott, northwood. I don't know what the hell that is. I just need a reliable notebook with a full size keyboard and big screen. Are you telling me not to worry about it.
    <hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>

Basically, any laptop computer that is running a desktop processor, ie., Pentium 4, Athlon 64 will run hot. These are desktop CPU's and generate alot of heat.

Mobile versions of these processors run much cooler and require less power, ie., Pentium 4M, Pentium Mobile, Athlon XP+M.

Heat is a killer of electronic components over time. If your looking for a laptop that will last you for 5 years, I'd look into laptops that use the mobile processors. I honestly can't think of one off the top of my head that uses mobile cpu's and sports a full sized keyboard.

This system will last you just as long as any notebook, It has more fans than most...it's give and take...the give is noise and heat, the take is speed and power...thier are so many notebooks running desktop cpu's...you will be fine.

I've never owned an ATI graphics card and I have a question about drivers. Do these cards in the laptop use special drivers or are the drivers the same ones used in desktops? And if they are special drivers how often are they updated to newer versions?

~Thanks, I'm going to sit in the corner and cry for a bit, (hurry up March 6th) [ :p]

well, the drivers are not uptaded regularly like the desktop versions

you can only get updates from the laptop's manufacture

the only way to get the latest drivers to work on your mobile gpu is to install omega drivers

    http://www.omegadrivers.net/

i have them install and no problems here

Man I'm really bummed out oredered mine the 6th and still no dice. :(

About the dead pixels most manufacturers require 7 or more dead pixels to warrant an exchange. Of course if you can't live with it and you have accidental coverage, close the top with a pencil inside and that should warrant a replacement. LOL

Have done it before on a Dell and it works like a charm...

I ordered my x6000 at 9P on 24 Feb. Scheduled ship date is 17 March plus 5-7 days shipping.

    My config was:
Win XP Home (have my own XP Pro)
    P4 520 2.8 GHz
    Brightview (1440x900)
    512Mb (2x256)
    60Gb 7200rpm
    8x DVD writer (single layer)
    64Mb x300
    WLAN & bluetooth
    extra battery
    standard 1yr warranty (no AD)
paid 1463.58 with employee purchase discount

I'm not much of a gamer, so this is a one large step over my P2-350!
Does anyone think this will actually make the ship date?

Mine was scheduled the 18th and then delayed to the 28th. I swear if it does not ship on the 28th I am thinking of canceling and getting the Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2.

    Mixed feelings right now...

Nah I own a few Dell's and really wanted a change and I do want to stick with the Compaq I like the looks of it and the brute horsepower I can get with it. Although the that WUXGA and the 6800 Ultra are very tempting while I am stuck waiting for my Compaq, but that would probably just get delayed as well. LOL

    I'm screwed either way.... [ :D]

Hmm, I've heard from several that that method works. Dell is overpriced, but the $750 coupons make them a good deal.

Sorry couldn't reply in time to thank all of you guys who answered my questions. Really appreciate it. I was down with infection, didn't mean to sound ungrateful!!!

Still deciding between zd800 and X6000. With XPS2 in the market from 02/24 with a Pentium M and all, heard rumours that the bulkier and hotter P4 m/cs will probably see a drop in price.

Also researched the MCOS a bit. Heard a few people say that this could be the industry direction of the future and not having this OS might mean missing the bus on a new trend??? Not sure if that's true though.
There seem to be issues on the upgrades and lack of support. Notebook owners with the 2004 edition were told to buy a new machine if they want 2005. With security problems and extenders et al, wouldn't want to be tied to a system with no upgrades.

    Hmmm, don't I sound clear-headed!

I wish something would convince me either way. That's not to take away from this forum though, which still remains the one I will refer all the way from the beginning before I place the call!!!

Woot, ordered mine on the 14th with a ship date of the 28th. Now it says it shipped on the 26th with an estimated delivery date of March 4th by 10:30am. Guess I'm going to be calling in sick on Friday. [ :D]

It's been sitting in China for the last two days tho at the Fed Ex Facility.
Now all I have to do is goto Sam's Club and buy a Case, Wireless Mouse and a Linksys Wireless G router.

Thanks, can't wait till it gets here. I'm so bored at work I'm looking at a world atlas to find out where Subic bay is in the Phillipines. Doesn't show it on the map, or Freeport for that matter. But if it arrived at 1:09am tomorrow in the PH, then it should fly out that day. Assuming it goes out by noon time their time and flies into the US in Cali, won't it leave on March 1st and Arrive in CA on Feb 28th? [ :D]

I have to say I am dissapointed in the gaming performance of my x6000 I got it with the 256 x600, 3.2 Gig processor, 1 gig of memory and the 7200 RPM drive. My desktop with a radeon 9600 can run Call of Duty at a higher resolution and more settings on....

Anybody know if the mobility x800 will be swapable in these notbooks?

Mine is on the same place, I was about to head down to the store to cancel the order. Still tempted to and get on the wait for the xps 2. Its a 700 difference for me though. Getting very conflicted now, since I intend to use mine for development with work and lots of gaming when i got nothning to do ;)

Anyone playing HL2 or WoW with theirs? Hows it run?
