Mine is at SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PH also. An HP CSR told me that they fly into Alaska, then they are shipped from there.

Well, a desktops graphic card is always gonna beat a laptops graphic card.. As far as I know the only mobile graphics card that can really stand up to some of the best desktop graphics cards is the Nvidia 6800 Ultra mobile graphics card. And you'll pay out the nose to get a laptop with that one it in right now. About 1000 bucks more for the same specs as the one you have now actually.
I could be wrong but from what I've read that's about it.
Oh, almost forgot, someone said that there are some Omega Drivers for the ATI card that are suppose to boost performance. Not sure what they are or where you get them.

I've also heard that FedEX Files from Subic Bay to Alaska and
then IN. at least for deliveries in Colorado, was hoping in might
go to LA or San Diego, and then on to Denver.

I recently ordered the X6000 and I was wondering if anyone plays any multi-player online games with theirs. I am a huge Battlefield Vietnam junky and I was wondering how smooth the online play was with the X6000. Ie.. any lag or slow booting up maps etc...
By the way the specs on mine are:
- Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 540 w/HT Technology, 3.2GHz
- 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1680x1050)
- 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 400MHz (I plan on upgrading to 2gb when I get the dough)
- 60 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- 8X DVD +/- RW/R & CD-RW Combo
- 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600
- 54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth

ok i placed my order for a dell 5160 then scanned the internet and canceled the order the next day (because of the heat issues). Now i have placed my order for this compaq deally and come accross this site. This will be my first laptop and i want the experience to be a positive one.
As you see i didnt go with the brite view will i regret that decision?? I have days at work that are misereably boring and if i can get this baby up to my desk wohoo.. I hope to play morrowind and hopefully any other new mmorpg's that come out like it. So speed is really not a huge issue i just need good graphix and hopefully longevity. Thus my two part question
1) will i regret my decision to go without briteview??
2) Which is the best cooler to use with this laptop?

JosephCruz have you installed different video drivers, the Omega ones I've heard about? If so, are they from ATI or some other company and where would I get them if from another company? If you have installed them have you noticed much of a difference? Once I get my X6000 I'd like to run some performance tests on the machine as is and then run them again once I get rid of all the extra crap they probably have installed on the machine.
Also, I'm not planning on doing this but has anyone messed around with overclocking the video card at all? On my home system I've overclocked my ATI 9700pro and got a big performance increase. Eventually I burned out the fan and had to put a new one on but for a while I was flying, hehe. I have a program called RadClocker for the ATI card that let me increase the speed of the memory about 10 to 20 percent I believe. I wouldn't recommend overclocking a laptops video card in the slightest since it can't be replaced but I'm curious if it's ever been done.

You can get the omega drivers here: http://driverheaven.net/ as well as the mobility modder which will allow you to mod the stock drivers off the ATI site to work with mobile video cards.

Thank you mr. cruz for the great advice
wow customer service is good at hp. They canceled my order added the briteview and talked me into the two year service plan. Also my free printer with mail in rebate had already shipped so as i no longer qualified for the 50$ mail in rebate (because of ordering comp and printer seperate) they credited my account. Has anyone has already delivered his x6000? how long does it last (from when to when?) ? .... y I have other doubt ... as I have a limited budget ... I want to know about what component improve CAD applications (e.g. more processor speed between, between x600 and x300, what about 1400x900 and 1680x1024 which one is better than the other for a 17inch screen?, about graphic card why is important to have more ram (e.g. x600 128 and x600 256?) ? ... thank you very much for your help

I wasn't advocating overclocking the notebook, just curious if anyone had. With overclocking you have to be prepared to replace things, fans, heatsyncs and eventually the component your overclocking itself. Since you cannot replace many of the things inside the notebook, at least not easily, I'd never overclock it.
On Memory, maybe I'm wrong but faster memory, say 400mhz to 533mhz memory isn't going to do a thing unless you increase the buss speed of the computer. I thought the increase in the memory was so you could run the processor at a higher speed. For instance, going back a few years here, an old Celeron processor use to run at 66mhz times the multiplier, so if you had the old ram 66mhz if you wanted to overclock the processor you'd want to get the PC100 or PC133 ram so you could increase the bus speed. Older Pentium processors ran at 100Mhz so you wanted to get PC133 so you could increase the bus speed incrementally to get the processor running at a higher rate since the processors are multiplier locked.
Now if your talking Latency, the higher the latency the worse the memory is in general. I run CAS 3 in my desktop that has a Athlon 2100XP chip. I've read that running the CAS 3 would make my processor run like the 2000XP chip, thus loosing the performance of about 100mhz.
So, the 3.2 ghz processor has a multiplier of 16 times the speed of the front side bus which is 200 to equal 3200. The 200 is quad pumped to 800 to get your FSB. The DDR400 designates that it is Double Data Rate RAM running at 400MHz. That's how you get the 800, double the speed of the ram. The processor is Multiplier locked so the only way that faster ram would be of use, like the 533mhz ram, would be to increase the FSB. Which would overclock the processor. For example, taking the FSB to 212 would give you a speed of about 3400, 3392ghz to be exact and your memory would need to run at 424mhz, hence the need for faster ram for faster bus speed. Or something like that, not a pro when it comes to this of course.
Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken which is a good possibility. I'm old school and my knowledge of present day processors is very limited.
Now believe me I'm no expert and could be totally wrong so don't take my word as gospel, I'm just an old computer geek that tends to read alot.

For all those worried about shipping I am pleased to say I was given a due date from HP of Mar10 and I just received an email yesterday saying it had shipped. Very cool, it shipped 10 days early. Unfortunately I wont get to enjoy it for awhile cause I am stuck in Iraq right now. I cant say over the internet when I will be home, but needless to say I am going crazy that I still have to wait to get my hands on my X6000.
I am still looking for a reply to my earlier question about anyone playing online games. Just wondering how well the laptop performs in multiplayer games.
Thanks -
Joseph, I haven't even begun to look a the memory stats or prices yet because I won't have the money to buy more for some time but I'd go with the memory that has the lowest latency, CAS 2 or 2.5 over CAS 3. There are other numbers there but not sure what all they mean. All in all there probabaly wouldn't be much of a difference, fast is fast and when your running at over 3ghz how the heck are you gonna tell the difference.

I don't know why, but its true when you go to a store to buy a notebook, they are not only more expensive for obvious reasons, but they also lack good quality options. Usually you have to get the all or none deal.
If you don't want to wait for a ship date, you may just want to still order from the HP store and pick a pre configed option. Although I really like the customize idea. It may take some time, but atleast I get exactly what I want and don't have second thoughts about rather I spent my money in a good way or not.
I will have this notebook for two or more years, I will probably still keep it when I get a new one as a backup. This notebook does lots of cool stuff and has a beautiful screen to go with it.
Still I wonder why notebook manufacturers don't want their high quality configs out on the market, I would think better sales, but thats just me. Anyway good luck.

I envy the owners of this thing. Reading this post has helped me greatly. You guys are like the computer geniuses. I know nothing. I just want a desktop replacement. I see some people are going to be upgrading in 2-3 years and they have 2 gigs in their notebook. I'm hoping to get 5 years out of a notebook. It won't really travel around much, but around the house. I'm currently running on some 127 meg of 1999 ram on my desktop. It barely gets me by. I'm thinking 512 meg will be more than enough. 2gigs seems huge. I can't ever imagine needing that kind of ram. What do you need all that ram for anyway??? Video editing. Thats all I can figure. And to our men serving who visit this board. THANKS, you are in my thought everyday.
What I think I need is a
2.8, 512, 60 gig 7200rpm, 64 vid, dvd burner.
Even though a friend of mine told me to go with the 540 cpu, i think the 2.8 is more than sufficient for the next 5yrs. I don't know what screen to go with yet. I want to edit and use to show pic's and stuff man. Very little gaming, nothing demanding, few times a year kinda stuff. -
TacJam, great post about the memory. I failed to think about the bandwidth. In older machines it wasn't much of a big deal because for one thing you didn't have Dual Channel Motherboards. The extra Bandwidth is a good thing. If I were to buy more memory now, which I can't afford yet, I'd go with the faster 533mhz memory.
The reason I come to boards like this is because I know that other people know more than me and it's a great way to learn. I love to read the links to articles others put on, keeps me from getting to board at work here. []

Well, just checked, if you order you X6000 now the price has gone up on the components, the Hard Drive upgrade for the 60 Gig 7200RPM went from a 25 dollar upgrade to a 125 Dollar upgrade.
They also added the Lightscribe DVD/CD burner for a 75 dollar upgrade from the normal 8X burner. Lightscribe is a neat idea but I prefer buying Ink Jet ready DVD's and put them thru my nice Epson R300 Printer.

I configured systems from Dell, Gateway, HP (zd8000), Alienware, Voodoo, and looked at a million pre-built, and the X6000 looks to be the best balance of performance and price. Ship date is the 15th--can't wait [

Couple questions, tho:
1.Anyone found alternative power adaptors for this monster (auto/air)?
2.Did they incorporate Axiom interface, or a variant, into the mother-board design? Can we upgrade? -
Man I wish mine said it was in Indy, mine still says it left Subic Bay twice. LOL

I don't believe they incorporated the Axiom design into X6000 as of yet. If you donload the pdf's for the laptop they have different motherboard part numbers depending on the video card you choose. [

Hey, here's some things to consider when your configuring your laptop if your confused on what to order.
Think about getting the better option for things that can't be replaced.
Screen, if the cost difference isn't that much might as well go for it since you'll never replace the Screen with a better one.
Video Card, same as the Screen, you can't replace it so order it with the best that you can afford.
Processor, ok, here is how I rationalized it. I couldn't afford the fastest one because it was a 300 dollar increase to go from the 3.2 to the 3.6 ghz. But going from the 2.8 to the 3.2 was only 100 dollars more. Chances are I'll never replace the Processor so I opted to spend the extra 100 dollars. Another way to think about it is if I went for the 2.8 processor, what would be the cost later if I chose to replace it? The answer is about 200 dollars and I'd have an extra 2.8 laying around that I'd have nothing to do with. So the answer was simple, spend the 100 now.
Memory, since memory is easily replacable at a later date, I went with the 512meg because the upgrade to 1 gig is 125 dollars, chances are if you're going to upgrade might as well go for two 1gig sticks and upgrade your memory to 2 gig. Paying the extra 125 dollars at the time you order it is kind of a waste if your planning to go to 2 gigs later.
CD/DVD Drive, I went with the 8X DVD burner, it's only a 25 dollar difference between the CDR/DVD player and the DVD Burner. Replacing it later is a pain since getting one that matches the laptop can be a problem. The contour or color of the bezel may not match if you purchase an aftermarket one later. I didn't go for the Dual Layer Drive because I figured it was a waste of money. If you've ever burned DVD's you know that at the moment Dual Layer Disks are not an option because of the price. A normal blank DVD is about 20 to 40 cents compared to the Dual Layer ones that are between 3 and 6 dollars each if your lucky. Granted, it's only 25 dollars more for the Dual Layer Burner but the 25 dollars could goto something else you'd rather have, say upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro. Plus, if you absolutely later find that you want dual layer support, buying an external drive for about 100 dollars is an option.
Hard Drive, Definetly want to go with the fastest drive listed. The 7200rpm drive is a big performance boost. Even if they increased the price from an additional 25 dollars to 125 dollars it's a bargain. If you go with the 4200 or 5400 rpm drives and later decide to go to the 7200rpm drive it will cost you more than the 125. The 60 gig 7200rpms are going for over 150 now.
Wireless Network Card, this also is a must, even if you don't plan on using it at this time, get it. It's almost impossible to add it later without using a PCMCIA card. I goofed when I got mine, opted for the cheaper one without the Blue Tooth thinking I'd never use it and maybe I won't but I should have gotten it just in case.
Operating System, this was a toss up for me, originally I was going to save 50 bucks and get XP home edition and just dump the computer and load it with my version of XP Pro. I then thought, "What if I ever really do need support, how would this affect me, if I had to send it back would they dump it and reload home edition since that is what it's licensed for?"
Anyway, what it all boils down to is this, I'd recommend going with the best you can afford for the options on the Laptop that can't be replaced later or would be just too costly later.
Hope this made sense to someone and hope it helps those that are pondering on which option to pick from.

Too bad about the Axiom--guess I'll be breaking out the power tools at some point [}
].
Good points from Shadow. I did basically the same thing: P4 540, 1 gig PC4200 (ordered w/256mb PC3200), 60gig 7200rpm hdd, 8x dvd/cd combo, 1680x1050 brightview, 256mb X600, wireless and bluetooth, XP Home SP2.
All else being equal, I couldn't justify another $800+++ just for the X800 or Go 6800. I have real bills, a real budget, and a real wife[].
Looks like I shoulda bought 5 extra batteries though... -
I bought an extra bettery and am debating if I should have, if I have to shut off the machine to change batteries thats kind of rough when your working on something important (or gaming) . As far as I can tell this laptop only has one battery slot, does anyone one know if I can swap the battery out while the machine is running by closing the lida and having it go into standy. I know Macintrashes have this functionality but was wondering if anyone had tried it out yet. On the Mac as long as you close the lid and swap the battery within 60 secs you are good to go.
Take it easy, -
