I received mine on Wednesday. Came from Anchorage to MA in one day. Not sure how they managed that. I also received 2 power supplies which is convenient. I can keep one permanently at my desk and have the other one for being mobile (as mobile as this leviathan permits!).
Now this laptop smokes. My desktop is a 3.0GHz P4 (OC'd to 3.6GHz) with a 10K WD Raptor and this "little" X6000 (3.2GHz / 80GB 5400RPM) feels faster and more responsive. I haven't yet run any benchmarking software, so I don't have any quantitative results yet.
The brightview screen is brilliant. My only complaint so far is my screen has two stuck pixels. One appeared immediately and is pretty close to the top right corner which isn't too bad. The second one appeared after about an hour and is about an inch from the top near the middle; a little more annoyingly placed. Both are stuck white, although one turned black for a while last night but was white again this morning. It sort of disconcerting knowing that they are there in an otherwise perfect machine.
What's HP's policy regarding dead /stuck pixels? I don't want to return this thing right away, but if it's covered I might consider sending it in for service in a few months once the excitement simmers down.
Anyone else find any dead/stuck pixels on their X6000?

I think you need at least 7 bad pixels to return it for an RMA. I didn't receive and extra power supply, but I didn't receive and dead pixels. Maybe thats their way of saying sorry.

Well, don't see any dead pixels here. I'll tell you what tho, watching a DVD on these things is incredible, Shrek II looks great on it, lol. [

Just loaded Star Wars Republic Commando and played for about 5 minutes, can't really play much at work here. It ran perfect, used whatever settings are default. Didn't run slow or anything and it looked beautiful. I haven't even started tweaking things yet, such as drivers or eliminating things running in the back ground.
One thing I did notice tho was that the fans ran constantly while I was in the game. They sounded like they were on their highest setting too for some reason. Wondering if a Cooler would help out when it's doing that or not.

To all the lucky ones who have received theirs already, congrats! Question for you: what's your opinion of the onboard sound? I was thinking about getting the Audigy PCMCIA, but will wait for some feedback on the audio.
Thanks.
(252.5 hours to ship date) -
I like the sound it has, I'm not planning on doing any major rock concerts or anything but I think if I hooked up a set of external speakers it would sound just fine. Now if I wanted to have Dolby Surrond or something I'd think about getting a pcmcia sound card but the whole purpose of having this laptop is that it's mobile and if I really want to have surround sound then I'll watch my movies on my big screen tv and listen to music on my stereo.
But, if your getting this laptop to be part of your entertainment system perhaps you'd want to get a pcmcia card. The sound on the Lappy Speakers is pretty good tho, much better than my last laptop.
If I was using it to watch a movie at work or something I'd be satisfied with how it is.

I like to use open source software, more now than before because its updated more often, usually is more tweakable, works well, very reliable and free.
I use:
Firefox, GAIM, Open Office, MPlayer Classic, zipgenius, DIA for most of my application needs. The other advantage is they are more lightweight, meaning they take up less memory and HD space.
I still haven't opened the software that came with my notebook or drivers, I downloaded the drivers and put my own O/S on it, XP Home I think not[xx(].

Ok, somethng on a different note. Just ran out on my lunch break to Sam's Club and bought a Linksys Wireless G router with Speedboost. I'm hoping it's not too difficult to swap it out from my Netgear wired router. I'm kinda doing it on the sly cause the wife don't know I bought it [}

But I did get the wireless card with speedboost in it when I got my Lappy. I may have made a mistake not getting the one with Blue Tooth but I didn't think I'd ever use Blue Tooth for anything really.

Thanks for the responses. This is my first laptop, so have no idea what to expect. Will be comprehensive solution for me--desktop replacement, mobile office, gaming (ahhh, gaming), primary home sound system, road entertainment. If it sounds good, I'm happy [

LOL, wow, didn't realize hooking up that wireless router would be that easy, I kinda shortcutted and hooked it up here at work, just no internet connection. Configured the modem in like 2 minutes, got it setup for wireless too, it's like 5 things you have to choose and your done, lol. Just have to lock it down once it's all up and running at home now.

Ok, before I go through with this big purchase (for me) I wanna run by what I have learned from you all, and show you what I'll build. for some reason I trust you strangers more than the salesmen.
CPU 2.8ghz, HD 60gig 7200, Ram 256, GPU 128, WXGA+ w/ brightwiew
I had to cut the processor speed for cost reasons plus I think it is adequate enough for the next few years at least.
I have to go with the fastest HD because well this is suppose to be a desktop replacement.
The Ram I understand could be upgraded later to the faster Ram even since I'm choosing the 2.8 CPU motherboard (correct?)
I chose the 128 GPU for possible future needs. 64 is more than I need now.
The screen, well my eye's aren't perfect and nobody else seems to be going for it.
Any last words for me? Is my thought flawed. -

There's actually a price difference of $150 from 40GB 4200rpm to 60GB 7200rpm. I actually bought the 40GB 4200rpm because I couldn't wait until the end of March for HP to ship it(ordered mine on Feb 15). With this huge price difference, you can already buy a 60GB 7200rpm or 40GB 7200rpm at newegg. So for basically the same price, I now have 2 40GB hard drives.
http://www.newegg.com/app/Viewproduct.asp?Submit=list&catalog=380&DEPA=3&srchFor=7200rpm
You can get a usb2.0 2.5" external enclosure for $14 on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41911&item=5171277144&rd=1
By the way, my shipment got delayed. I called up HP customer service and they told me they upgraded it to a 2-day busines shipping. Can't wait for it to arrive next week.

Hey all.
It seems that everyone that has this notebook loves it, myself included. But there is one thing that annoys me, a dirty screen. Does anyone out there know the best way to clean the screen with out scratching it? I was thinking a cheese cloth myself, but I wanted to hear other ideas before I do anything.
Thanks in advance.

I mentioned early on if anyone has put linux on this notebook, I want to know the most compatible version. If there are any linux gurus out there please let me know what version supports the notebook the best.

Can you tell me the best way to get fingerprints off of a laptop computer screen?
--Anita Grant, Lehigh Acres, FL
Carefully. The best way to clean your computer screen will depend on the type of laptop you have. Check your owner's manual first to see what the manufacturer suggests. You can also use a microfiber or cleaning cloth designed for computers, available at computer stores. Dust the screen often with a dry, soft cloth or a special mini blower created for that purpose, because it can attract an amazing amount of dust in a short

I ordered two of these x6000s so i think the first one i get ill sell on ebay, so someone doesnt have to wait a month to get it and they can get it with better options than you can buy right now from hp. It has 3.2 p4, the hi res brightview screen (WSXGA+), winXP pro, 1 gig of ddr2 3200, 256 mb ati x600, dual layer dvd copier, 60gb 7200 rpm hard drive, 54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, Microsoft(R) Works/Money (pretty much loaded). Do you think it would sell on ebay? Its in alaska right now on its way to my house, and should be here march 9th. If i dont sell it on ebay i guess ill just send it back.... but it would be a shame to do that. -

Well I found out my reviews got counted in the review section. I placed two reviews because I thought the first one was too long and would be rejected. It wasn't though. Unfortunately on the PRO side some was cut off, so it was too long. I think most people will get good info out of it though.[

I did go to HP website to check out the Vid card thing my self, before I replied earlier. I also notice that this thread has almost 11000 viewings. I wonder if this thread is responsible for the shortage.[

This notebooks is really awesome. I would wait until they bring back the other vid cards to take it seriously though.
If anyone that calls HP on this can, will you reply to this post and tell people rather they are bringing back the 128 and 256 cards. I would like those intrested to know the results. Thanks.[8D]
