Hehe
I spec'ed out a comparable system to the x6000 for the 9300 dell. Over $2100, with only the base warranty and no real additives the 2GB ram from dell is almost $1000. That price is after the "free" 512mb ram upgrade.
The screen may have changed, not sure yet, they have a new technology for it. I would look on the dell forums at the predessor, the I9200. Anyone who is intrested in dell, please do lots of research. I hope they learned from the problems with the I9200. Oh well that's as far as I will go on a x6000 thread with the dell systems.

Ok, burnt my first DVD on the laptop this weekend. I got the 8X DVD burner, not the Dual Layer one. It took 12 minutes and 56 Seconds to burn the DVD at 8X speed. I thought this was a little long so I connected my external burner, an NEC 3520a 16X Dual Layer burner up and burned another one, same size in 9min 36sec. Just curious, not complaining as I had planned on hooking my external up most the time to burn with so I didn't wear out the internal burner to begin with.
For being a portable unit that can burn DVD's I don't mind waiting the extra 3 minutes to burn a full DVD. Even in my most exteme days I've burned 20 DVD's so that would only be an extra hour once in a blue moon.
Has anyone else used the burners that come with this lappy? Interested in the time of the Dual Layer burner compared to the normal 8X burner they have.

Well, the NEC 3520A has a 2MB buffer and is in an External USB 2.0 enclosure.
I used Nero to burn both DVD's and they were both approx 4.2GB. Basically the same disk, Star Trek Season 2 Disk 1 and 2, heh.
Not sure of the buffer size of the DVD burner in the Laptop cause it's an LG and there isn't alot of info on it that I'm able to find.
I'm not complaining mind you, just curious, 2 or 3 minutes ain't gonna mean a thing to me in the grand scheme of things. I'm very happy with this Lappy, runs great, gets a little warm but a cooler should take care of that.

Rob
Status isn't updated daily, sadly.
I got mine two days early. Ordered on the 7th of feb, got it like the 23rd. It was due the 25th.
Its worth the wait. I am like you, i was watching status daily, it was making me mad that it didn't show progress of order. Somebody on the forum ordered and had it shipped the next day, i think that was because of a rush, to get out all the delayed orders though.
This thread is full of useful info, since you purchased the notebook, I would carefully read up. Congrats on your purchase.

Rob, the status page doesn't change until it's shipped. Mine shipped 2 days prior to the day they said it would ship. Believe me when I say I checked that page a dozen times a day when it was getting close to the ship date. I got my laptop on 3/3 and it according to their shipping time the latest I would have recieved it was today, 3/7.
Believe me it's worth the wait, hang in there.

Mine was ordered on 2/9 was suppose to ship on 2/23 and shipped on 2/26. It was in my hands on 3/3.
I'm not sure if any of you have this problem, so I figured I'd post it. I was going to buy an extra AC adapter to leave at work. I picked mine up to get the part number and specs and just about burned my fingers on the label side. I call tech support to see if that was normal (which I figured it wasn't). The CSR looked into it and found that they had shipped the wrong AC adapter! Here are the numbers on mine:
HP P/N, 374427-002, Spare 375117-001, and 378768-001.
INPUT: 100-240V-2.2A
OUTPUT: 19.0V-7.1A 135W
They are shipping the 180W AC adapter that it was suppose to ship with. The said it will be here in 2 buisness days.
It might be worth checking into your AC adpater to make sure you have the right one. Hope no one else has this problem!

Your question is hard to answer, because the supply and demand for this notebook appears to be high. Options keep changing and they keep running out of parts. If you order during a delay rollout you will be seeing a quick turn around. If you order during regular build time the amount of time needed is about right. If you order during delay time, then your will be delayed, but delays depend on order and availability. Try not to think about it for now. LOL.

Has anyone tried this BIOS update for the X6000
This package contains the System BIOS (ROM) for some models and the operating systems listed below.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

I got e-mail on in tonight from HP

Sorry, first post didn't work so well, but anyway:
Yeah Rob, I think I will be that person with the longest wait. I placed my order on Feb. 9 and it was due to ship on Feb. 23. Got delayed, I was kinda pissed, but HP gave me a $50 coupon code for their store (got myself a free wireless optical mouse), so I was like sure. New ship date was set to March 4. March 2 rolled around, so I give them a call to see if everything is running smoothly. I get transferred to the supervisor and she tells me that they are having problems getting my 100GB HD in-stock, so there's going to be yet another delay. Current estimated ship date: March 18. If there are anymore delayes, I think I'm just gonna have to take my $2300 to Dell for a 9300, because this is ridiculous. No wonder Dell can boast: "The merger of HP/Compaq just gave us a bigger butt to kick." -Dell in Fortune Magazine

I ordered my x6000 on 20th feb and it should ship this friday (11th). Before I get it though I was going to down to EB Games and pick up some essential software. Has anyone benchmarked an x6000 (with the ati mob x600) on Doom 3 yet? If so, what sort of frame rates where you getting, and at what lod?
FYI, my book is a 2.8gig, 512mb (upgrading later), 60gig 7200rpm, with the 256mb x600.
I appreciate your help, and thanks for keeping this post lively - it is by far the best source of info I have found on the x6000.

Anyone that has done the BIOS update. Do you know if you only have to do it if you are having problems with the display? Are there any other reasons. I heard something about sp2, I have had mine running without any updates with no problmes as of yet.

In my opinion those looking to order as of this post should do the following:
for HD and Memory:
HD
Buy the 40GB 4200RPM and buy the 256MB RAM.
While that notebook is being made, go out and buy the size HD you wanted and the memory you wanted. It seems that the memory and HD are the two most popular reasons for delay. That would explain why I got mine 2 days early as well.
I got the 60GB 7200RPM drive, and 256RAM, which I will update soon. I hope this helps anyone who is looking to order one, so you don't have to worry about delay too much.
For the one who posted the really large delay and spoke to a supervisor who said the delay was the 100GB HD. I would call them back if there are anymore delays, demand to speak to someone higher and tell them to either allow you to change your order so you can get it shipped out or to tell you why you should buy this product, when they have failed to live up to their end of the deal.
I don't blame you if you go somewhere else. If you are going to buy a DELL, I would wait for a few more months, I heard rumors that they are going to be unleashing a line of AMD64's finally. I would of rather had a AMD64 over the P4/HT for this notebook. Just food for thought.

For anyone about to order this Laptop I'd wait or call them directly. They only have the option for the X300 64meg video card listed as an option at this time. But the HP ZD8000 still has the 256 meg X600 as an option so it must still be available.
X6000, 3.2 Ghz, 512meg ram, 256 ATI X600 video, 17" Brightview Screen, 60gig 7200rpm Hard Drive, 8X DVD Burner, 54g 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster

I did do the BIOS update(s) I wasn't having a problem
The reason I ended up doing it was the BIOS on my system
was F.0A vs F.22 so it would seem like they had done several
updates before prior to the current one.
I was a little surprised about the ATI getting updated to M24
since the HP site showed that update was released in DEC would
have thought it would have been incorporated into the Build
process by now My system arrived on 3/2
No problems so far.

Hi guys, I am here to post some kind of serious messages, the discrimination that Compaq is doing right now between US customers and non-US customers, in principle this X6000 is produced in China, and as a Chinese i believe it should be available first in China, but not shipped from XX to XX then to XX then to USA, am i right? or at least it should be available in Hongkong S.A.R. because it is a free trading zone and full of IT products. but i looked over the chinese websites and relevant places where it might appear without luck..
I am currently in Europe, and it is also not available, I called the HP-Compaq customer service In Holland, they are sorry but no X6000.
it reminds me many things that going on nowadays, but if you are the man that decide X6000, will you only put it in the US but ignoring the rest of the world??? as American, i mean we enjoyed equal rights, why HP-Compaq only allows US customer to order it via Fedex? Fedex is around the world anywhere and can be delivered to any places. as human being, we should think about this issue, and its impact on US image nowaday around the globe, think about if PS2 only available in Japan and what is your guys feeling? -
Well, what's up with the Samsung notebooks not being available to the US?
-
Just curious, if they make a computer for another country, they do put different letters on the keyboard right? I mean they don't use standard English keyboards do they?

Hey guys, thanks for replies, but generally speaking i am against any kind of discrimination, for example if the Samsung is a case as mentioned above, i mean those regulations is base on what????We are talking about businesses, not something else, business should have fairness, specially if x6000 made in China, why it is only available in US?
and if i live in Shanghai, should i order it from some american company?
shanghai--fedex---USA---fedex--shanghai???????????????????
is the company crazy or i am crazy?? if it is available, who earn money? COMPAQ all the time!!! if this kind of condition continues, then
i have no choice but choose other companies. it is whose lose? Compaq!
by the way, i heard more american models narrowly available in the world, but you guys in america normally get full models(or most) products from other non-american companies. Lucky You!!!
last time i saw a message posted by a canadian, he or she said, " we hope it is soon available to our second level citizen" it is really a bad feeling......
-
Thanks to the idea of ordering from US, but think about it, there might be TAX involved when it enter EU or custom problem, etc. etc.
and the price will be raised something similar to the zd8000,then
what is the advantage for x6000 then? think again about the warranty,
the after sale stuff. etc. etc.....
oh! what a terrfic product, but what a pity to me......
is someone interested to ask them why they don't sell outside the US??
i apprieciated... -

OFF TOPIC
I see the ZD8000 now has a configuration for the faster RAM. 533mhz.
Also the the X6000 still no 128 or 256 video card and 7200 rpm drive taken away. -
I wonder if the X6000 has completely taken the ZD8000 market. It is pretty much the same thing only cheaper.
This is bad though for all those looking to buy a X6000, they will miss out on some key features that make it a great purchase.

Truthfully, I think the X6000 is better than the ZD8000. We get the 8000 for people here at work and I prefer the look of the X6000 better to that of the 8000. Everything else about them is the same. This silver look just appeals to me more personally. Dust and stuff just shows up more on the black 8000. Is there any real advantage to buying the ZD8000 over the X6000? Besides being able to get the 8000 with the Windows Media Center addition I don't think there is.

I don't exactly no why but for some reason, export policy doesn't like encryption, they want you to have yourself vulnerable so they can feel better. I can understand why in times of war like right now (for those in the USA). But I think its a little rediculous to take it as far as they have.

NEVER !!!!
I REPEAT NEVER!!!!!
Install updates for hardware from microsoft that says updates, those updates are the CAB file class you would get with a windows CD for generic, I need it to run functionality. Always use drivers for supported products from the manufacturers, just reinstall the driver from HP or rollback driver and you should be fine.

Oh, and on the topic of exporting and importing, do you know there is alot of software out there that you can't export or import? One program a few years that only allowed you to download and install it only if you lived in the U.S. was Netscape with 128 bit encryption. That was some time ago but I'm sure there are alot of regulations regarding other software programs.
And like TacJam stated, there are alot of neat gizmos we can't get here in the US that are made in other countries.

Oh, maybe this is just me, but I went to the Microsoft site and got all the Windows updates. I got them all installed and now I have a small problem with my cursor pad.
Before the upgrade I was able to goto a web page and if I had to scroll I could just hold down on the little bars on the pad and move up or down. After I installed the updates it's not working the same way. I can use the pad but the scroll option doesn't work anymore. One of the updates was for drivers for this pad.

I haven't seen the ZD8000, but I will never buy a black car for the dust reason so I can relate. The only place I ever see dust and dirt is on top of the case, so I guess I can't complain. Is the X6000 bulkier.
BTW I did the BIOS update last night and saw no difference. I guess its more of a PM for me []. Has anyone with the problems that needed to do the BIOS update also get the built in blue tooth? I have read on forums problems with drivers for it and causing similar issues.
