There are several ways... If you have physical access to the machine you can simply look at stickers [there's one on the box the laptop came in and there is one on the laptop itself (in the battery bay, so you'll have to take it out - look for CustModel label)].

If this does not work, you can do a reverse search on the "product number" string which is available from inside the bios, or from hp's windows utility.

Hi everyone, I have a DV6-6190US, Can someone tell me what is the best BIOS for this notebook ?

In the first page, they show the dv6-61XX as a AMD processor, but my dv6-6190-us have a intel processor...

    Thx

    Dear Forum,
As described in the thread, any requests should be posted here, so I give it a try.
My wife has a dv5-1210es, which I plan to refresh by installing W7 and new drivers.
I haven't checked yet the Bios version on it, but according to this thread, I should install the F21 -> ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45138.exe

Having experience in flashing Bios on desktops via floppy or USB I thought that this is done the same way. But reading through the install instructions it says:

    [Private_SoftpaqInstall]
    1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).
    2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Is this really all that needs to be done?

I can also read that this is a Winflash utility:
"This package contains the WinFlash utility and a System BIOS image for the listed notebook models and operating systems. The WinFlash utilit y is used to locally flash the System BIOS (ROM) on notebooks operating in a Microsoft Windows environment."

So, I'm a little bit confused...will it upgrade the actual Bios through the Winflash utility while being in Windows Vista (my wife's current OS)?

I'll check later on the Bios on her laptop.

    Thanx for reading me,
Wish you all still nice christmas holidays and a nice start for 2012!

    Cheers,
    K3n

Use F.1B - it's sp55068 (the row right above the AMD version that you saw).

Yes, the BIOS is updated inside Windows using the flash utility. Download the Softpaq on the first post and run it. The Softpaq will extract the flash utility, which will provide you with further instructions.

Is it possible the BIOS listed on the BIOS page for the dv7t-6c00 is backwards with respect to which one goes with the Intel and AMD processors?

The reason I ask is I have looked everywhere for the Intel version of Insyde F.12 BIOS. According to the BIOS page, the latest BIOS for my Intel dv7tqe-6c00 is F.02 and the latest for the AMD version is F.12?

I have talked to other Intel dv6t/dv7t owners and they also have F.12 shipped in their new notebooks. I just received my dv7tqe-6c00 on 01/04/12 and it is definitely Intel Insyde F.12.

I always thought that you usually would never upgrade your bios unless you were having a problem with the one you got, and a fix for your problem was in the new bios.

That said, seems folks upgrade bios alot without needing to do so? What would be a good reason for me to upgrade my laptop bios if I am NOT currently having any problems?

My laptop is a DV7-6178US and it currently has bios F.1B, which according to the first post in this thread, is the latest bios for my laptop?

    Thanks!

Users upgrade not only to fix issues, but to add additional features that were previously lacking in older BIOS releases. With that said, it's not always a required upgrade but many of us here do classify BIOS updates as important to at least consider.

You can check the BIOS revision that you are currently using by opening System Information within Windows.

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place for this, but I've been trying to get into the advanced BIOS options on my HP dm1z, but am having no luck. I have the f.13 version insyde h20 or whatever, but the only thing I have seen on how to get in says to hit enter to get the boot options, then hit f10 to get into BIOS and immediately press "a", but this doesn't work. I've tried every combination of this too, hitting a first, hitting them at the same time, etc. But Im still just brought into the normal BIOS with no real options beyond boot order, fan always on, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

I'm the owner of a HP Pavilion Dv7-2215eb. The latest firmware is F.46. And i've updated to this one.
In the bios however I do not have the option to enable VT (Virtualization Technology). I've read some forums and apperently it's possible is some bios'es, and in some it's just not possible. I need it to be enabled for school, so this is a serious issue.
    Any solutions?

    Thanks in advance,
    GreenFnatic

    Hey,

Proud owner of a dv6t-6c00 that was just delivered to me on 2/13/2012. Just checked my current bios version and noticed that it's newer (date wise) than what is listed on the first page, but I'm not sure if it's actually newer/better. On HP's support page they still have F.12 11/18/2011 as the latest one. Sorry if this has been covered already.

    What's on my laptop (i7 2720QM processor): F.13, 12/5/2011

I think HP has customized the Insyde BIOS on their notebooks, which prevents access to the Advanced BIOS options.

In your case, it is not possible for you to enable Intel VT because the CPU does not support this feature. (Your dv7-2215eb has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600.)

Visit Intel® Virtualization Technology List for more information.

Interesting...a newer, unreleased version - hopefully HP will release it to the public soon! :)

I installed the latest bios from the post for my DV6T-6C00 and the install and verification went fine (it rebooted, installed and verified, rebooted again) but when I go into system information in windows it still says my BIOS Version/Date is Hewlett-Packard F.12, 10/26/2011.

Shouldn't this change or is this okay?

I think you're fine - you are using the most current BIOS available to the public at this time.

As mentioned in this thread, F.13 (12/5/2011) also exists but it is not available from HP just yet.

I think that the bios update might have cause the touchpad issues I'm having (but I'm not sure if it even installed since the date didn't change).

Is there any way I can possibly "downgrade" to the BIOS version I received with the laptop or am I out of luck and need to do a clean install (which I'm planning on tonight).

I recommend that you stay with the current BIOS - your problem may have to do with the Synaptics driver, not with the BIOS. Try the clean install and see if this fixes your problem. You can use the drivers in this driver thread if you want to:

Hi, my laptop model is HP Pavilion DV 2700ct. I am not able to locate this model in the listing on first page. Can you please point me to the correct listing for my model? Apologies if I may have missed any obvious information posted here. I searched for about 15 minutes and couldn't locate it. Many thanks!

You can download the latest version of the BIOS here:

    Version: F.2E
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41959.exe

I didn't have the dv2500/dv2700/dv2800 Intel BIOS on the first post, because it is not a notebook model that is natively compatible with Windows 7.

I have HP ProBook 4430s. Its initial BIOS was F.09. I updated that with F.20. Then it stopped coming back from sleep. Then I got update in the site F.25 and installed it. Now if I insert my bootable flash drive formatted with NTFS, it shuts down with a blue screen. Again I gone to the site HP ProBook 4430s Notebook PC- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

They have gone back to F.23.

If I install F.63 will it cause any problem on my machine?

    • Added BIOS F.04 for dv4-5XXX ([IMG]).

The F.63 release is not for your system. You should visit the following thread for HP business notebooks - you will find the most recent BIOS release for your 4430s there:

For some reason the F.16 update for the HP DV7T-61b00 CTO has suddenly disappeared on HP's drivers and software page. I ask chat support about and they magically don't know anything about it and the current update is only F.02 anybody know more info about this?

Yep it is removed somehow. Well I have this BIOS version and I don't have any issues with that. Please post more info about this if anyone knows, thanks.

I do hope that HP will at least provide information for those of us who already installed the F.16 bios to know whether we're about to have some unforeseen issue(s)...

And if this F.16 bios isn't stable - how about posting the old one (or a fixed one) that is?

    • Added BIOS F.05 for dv4-5XXX ([IMG]).
    • Added BIOS F.03 for g4-2XXX / g6-2XXX / g7-2XXX ([IMG]).

The dv4-5XXX BIOS update improves battery life and the g4-2XXX / g6-2XXX / g7-2XXX AMD update improves system performance.

    I have re-posted the F.12 BIOS release.

Thank you Justin. Nice to have a recovery option.

Was there ever anything learned about why F.16 was pulled by HP? Two of us here locally have been running it w/o any known problems. I'll leave well enough alone unless I learn of some dire consequence of having it on F.16.

I'm not sure about the F.16. But am I the only one who gets higher temperatures of components such as GPU and CPU? Another reason might be as I've installed another gpu driver.
I've asked through HP support page regarding F.16 BIOS and they said that there weren't any issues with that release, but he couldn't tell me why it was removed. Then he asked where did I order my laptop, I said Germany and then he suggested me to contact EU support team. And the problem is that I ordered my laptop through Germany, however I don't speak German. Can anyone else try to contact them about the BIOS F.16? Thanks.

Hey there! I was wondering, where does HP inform people of it's BIOS/Driver updates? I've never received any warnings and my computer has not informed me of any updates even when I manually search for them.
In case this isn't around someday, it'd be a handy thing to know! Thanks a million for your time btw, super useful.
