I'm on hold with HP as I type this, the Rep is discussing this with her supervisor...Invoking the information from their assocates (FedEx) helped her understand that HP is being blamed for the delay. Reportedly the supervisor says this is a big order, lots to go through, don't expect movement until late today or early tomorrow morning...baa, baa, baa. HPs story is greatly different from FedEx's. In the meantime I cruise ASUS sites and dream about how nice that Z70Va looks! More expensive, but Oh My.....

I just really hope they get there crap together I'm still hoping for tomorrow. Atleast i know I'm not the only one feeling this way.
-
Hmm... I wonder can we get some compensation for this delay, that HP seems to be in denial about.
-
Actually there ae only 8 or 9 of us who are waiting and are irritated enough to be writing about this. Paperinacup and I have called HP about our frustration with the delay, perhaps if they get more concerned feedback... well, it may not accomplish anything, but it just might and callers will likely feel better having taken some action, pitiful as it may be :asus:
-
even though we are all anxious to get our notebooks as soon as possible, I don't know if we should be that angry with HP for a small delay... even though this might feel like an eternity... they did give us an estimated ship date of Oct 13 and I'm sure I'll have my notebook by the estimated delivery date of Oct 17. Now of course tomorrow would be much better since I'll be home from work!
-
-
I know, I'm still clicking Reload on the Fedex tracking page every 10 minutes! I just hope they get this sorted out and the machines start moving towards their final destinations!
-
That being said, ASUS sure does have a lot of other things to like about themselves (as a company and reputation), so if the dv4000 is not everything I was hoping I will not hesitate to return it and buy the ASUS. -
I sure like what I've read about the ASUS... but I like the new Sony FS790, Sony BX series (that BX looks to be a wonderful machine but won't be available with a dedicated GPU for a good while yet) and Fujistu N3500 series as well. The HP is, on paper, by far the best value, but I'm waiting to see the quality of the display. I looked at a FS750 and a Dv4000 (not with the new GPU) side by side at Circuit City and the Sony had sooooo far and away better display...bright, vibrant clear, I nearly swooned! :decision:
-
I wonder if we broke fedex.com/tracking? I'm getting an error now.
-
Its been pretty slow since yesterday evening. Now its just down.
-
I just spoke with them. Nothing has happen since we last saw the screen. I learned that there are some 80 packages in the shipment, I assume that means 80 notebooks, and that there is indeed some problem with the paperwork on at least one of the machines... FedEx said there is some of the material needed, but the ball is still in HPs court....
-
LOL, I'm now seriously considering just cancelling and ordering the Asus Z70va. I could overnight it from any number of places (ProPortable for example) and have it here tomorrow. That looks to be more than I can say about my HP that was ordered two weeks ago!
-
Anyone talked to HP again?? I'm giving it 2 hours and if its hasnt changed I'm going to keep calling HP.
-
-
Tracking page works again but no change in status for me
-
3:47 EST, no change... the FedEx woman told me the problem seems to be an "inaccurate description of the merchandise". Simmer, simmer.... BTW the FedEx number to get right to the info is 1-800-455-4588.
-
They've just Cleared Customs and are on the way to Memphis. I was told to expect delevery on Monday...****.
-
It's been my experience that reps will always tell you to expect delivery on the estimated date, that way they're covered. I wouldn't be surprised if some are delivered tomorrow.
-
-
You're right, it appears HP lied to me...imagine that! Gee.. if HP service is of this quality before one get's the machine... I mean, shouldn't they know how to attend to these details? Shouldn't they know how to read the FedEx tracking information? This is very disappointing.
Wait, late breaking news! The HP supervisor I spoke with PROMISED to call FedEx to see that there was not a glitch and that the needed information was on the way. It's interesting that HP is blaming FedEx... they say the FedEx systems were down part of the day (and they were, some of us couldn't gget into the tracking system) and that this is likely the problem. Further was told that these kinds of hold ups with customs is a normal event and that its usually cleared quickly. For what it's worth, the guy took my number and promised to call me back if there is an issue that will result in what HP considers undo delay. Hummmm... ASUS...Hmmmm. -
Argh! Clearance delay has hit me! By the way, this exact same thing happened on my last HP laptop order. You'd think a huge company like HP would have better customs management.
(edited out tracking info because it irked some people)
-
that's the same as everyone elses man. i've seen quite enough of it on the site itself without having to face it here. can't you at least edit out the line breaks so it doesn't take, like, half a screen of space??
-
We're all getting the same response from HP and FedEx. Both blame the other, neither claims there's anything they can personally do, but both assure you that the problem will be resolved as soon as possible and shipment will resume as soon as that happens.
If you are all like me, then you are/were likely hoping to get your new lappy before the weekend so you could give it a thorough initiation. Doesn't sound like that's going to happen for most of us. -
Why is it taking this weird route anyway? I'm in San Francisco. Why the heck did it travel from Alaska (which I assume is the port of entry) to Indiana...then to me?
-
Alaska because of the Great Circle Route, shortest way from China to the US. Indiana because all FedEx packages are routed through Memphis then on to local areas... very effective.
-
effective is a bad choice of words right now. lol. -
Well I don't care how they fix this I just want them to FIX IT!!!
It makes no sense that they send out packages without suffiecent information. Don't they send out packages almost everyday?! Seems like they'd be used to it by now.
-
Excellent point... perhaps I should say "in theory, effective". At this point I'm expecting these things to stay put until morning... what a way to run a railroad.
-
over at the Talk Dv4000 forum I found a nice tech manual had been posted, thought people might be interested:

Thanks for the interpertation services...I think Magic may be being just a tad sarcastic... we're all getting testy waiting for our machines to get out of the slammer! (-:
-
Togus, I wasn't being sarcastic. I was genuinely confused at this "world tour" my laptop has been getting!
-
-
-
I guess I am just not patient at all..... I called again and talked with a supervisor who claims they have already fixed the problem... BUT Fedex says there has been NO progress...
-
Finally! Something seems to have happened:
Oct 14, 2005 12:08 AM Int'l shipment release INDIANAPOLIS, IN
I'm not quite sure what this means, but it sounds like they may have cleared customs. -
Mine arrived at my local sort facility (East Granby, CT) this morning at 6:21AM. Next stop is my local warehouse and then out for delivery! There's a good chance mine will be on the truck for delivery today, but they are cutting it close!!
-
same for me monkeypit, i'm in ct to. hopefully we'll get them today. as soon as i see it at my local facility, i may call them to see if i can pick it up there. it would be nice to have it for the weekend.
-
I'm on the horn with FedEx right now... they have promised to call me back as soon as the shipment is sorted and have assured me that I can pick it up at the local FedEx station rather than wait for a Monday delevery. So... local pick up is and option for those, like me who would need to wait until Monday for FedEx to delever it to your door. Nice to see FedEx willing to work with us. However, still miffed about HP dropping the ball on the customs paperwork. BTW the follwoing is from an e-mail I got from Laptop Logic magazine yesterday:
"Yes, we've used the DV4000 (the non-X700) and the features/design/quality is quite good. Yes, the specs you got is a great value. BrightView is EXCELLENT -- although we've noticed Sony's XBRITE is a bit brighter. Yes, the Fujitsu N3510 had a perfect balance in terms of color and contrast; whereas the Sony XBRITE appeared to be brighter making certain colors a bit "washed out" -- you will notice this with very careful comparison however Sony has the new echo XBRITE so this technology might have improved." -
8:07 AM At local FedEx facility WATERTOWN, CT
Now let's see if it makes it on the truck, usually they're on the truck before 9:00AM. If it doesn't I'll call and ask if I can pick it up, but they don't usually let me do that until a delivery attempt has been made. How did you convince them togus? -

Oct 14, 2005 7:34 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery INDIANAPOLIS, IN
---
But now, not having even received delivery yet, I'm having second thoughts - I'm beginning to wonder if 1280x800 is enough screen real estate for the type of work I do (web development).
In looking at the Asus Z70Va, it seems I can get everything I'm getting with the DV4000 sans the OS for about the same price with a 1680x1050 display.
Hmmmmm. -
8:21 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery WATERTOWN, CT
Now I get to sit by the window and stare outside waiting for the truck to pull in. I hope it can make it up the river that used to be my road. -
