most likely won't play nice on the other laptop

i see, how do i check which gen is for my envy??
-
I have a pavilion dv6-3140ee with ati hd 5650m. Can i use the updates on the first page or will they only work on envy 14??
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
they should work fine unless your DV6 decides to not like 'em.
it took us a bit on the first Envy 14s because the original drivers on the laptop black screened. (This was mainly just horrible stock drivers they did this with hp's official driver update as well)
Immortal you can check which gen your envy 14 by seeing what processor or GPU it has.
if you have an i3/i5/i7 2xxx or if you have a radeon 6630 that means you have the sandy bridge refresh (so gen 2 envy 14). -
i see thanks alot!
-
so u don't know if they'll work on a DV6?? I have to try and see? coz i dont wanna mess things up a lot
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you could ask the dv6t owner's lounge (3xxx series owner's lounge anyway)
-
They should work, they are official drivers form ati for the 5650, not specified for the envy 14.
-
thnx ironman i'll give it a try
-
thnx ironman i'll give it a try... and since we're in mid september should i wait for the 11.9 update?
-
Thanks so much Ironman! You are an internet hero. Seriously, you saved me so much time and energy - this was the only solution I could find after hours of pain.
-
I've tried these instructions to the letter, and no matter what I do, once I put the 11.8 drivers on switching stops working. Very frustrating, but probably not worth all this effort. The stock drivers seemed to work well enough...
Thanks for the help, though, everyone. -

11.9 driver update - 9/28/2011
-
I'm getting an issue where the update is running, then either stopping and doing nothing after I click install, or Windows is giving me an error about compatibility, or that the installer has crashed. Do you know what could be causing this?
-
edit1: in other news, switchable graphics stopped working so lets see if its 11.9 causing problems.
edit2: nope, forgot an hdmi cable plugged in and prevented switching!!!! I realize this after I unisntall 11.9 in safe mode, restart the computer, install stock drivers.
edit3: back on 11.9, installed fined and switchable graphics working -
-
-
I have downloaded the most recent stock drivers put out my HP for switchable graphics, and those drivers have the same issue. Quite strange.
EDIT: Specific error I'm getting, when the error does come up, is that Catalyst Install Manager has stopped working. I guess I'm going to go google searching.
EDIT 2: Well a little googling and a shot in the dark and the problem is resolved. Up to 11.9 now! -
Hi can you guys help me? I just installed the 11.9 drivers and now I cannot switch graphics to intel hd, can you guys help me please, thank you
-
-
No its not plugged in, and no program is open, also I downloaded the 11.9 drivers from AMD and intel hd seems not working, I downloaded the drivers from your first post and then it seems to work, any idea why? do you have any moded version?
-
-
Ok im fine with them being modded as long as I get the latest drivers and updates for my ATI 5650 and also be able to use the intel hd for saving power
thx for help!

11.10 version 2 is out for improving performance for Rage.
Read: AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Preview Driver Version 2
NOT needed if you are not playing Rage, only install for improving performance on Rage ONLY.
If you have 11.10 version 1 for Battlefield 3 Beta, no need to update. -
Yay thanks dude! I wont play rage and as battlefield 3 beta is closed i went back to 11.9
-
any chnce this will work witha Pavilion dv7 which also has a 5650m....??? Am battling to get BF3 running
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well. you'll need to use your 5650m drivers from HP first.
then yeah...try one of the sets on here (they're just ati mobility drivers) and put them on top -
I am not the most technical person and seem to be a bit lost, is there a step by step guide. I seem to get errors / drivers failed messages when I install (tried the 11.10 version) but am not sure I am doing what is required.
Thanks! -
Troubleshooting/Help:
If you run into problems during or after driver installation, follow these steps:
- download stock AND latest driver
- disconnect from internet and shut down
- go to safe mode.
- go to device manager and remove the drivers for both Intel and ATI cards and choose not to save the driver software. (for 2nd gen, IDK if Intel is there)
- restart.
- open any ATI driver update setup file and choose remove all ATI software.
- restart.
- install stock.
- restart.
- install latest driver found on this post.
Use 11.9 though if you are not playing battlefield 3 or rage. -
yo guys! little bit off topic! I got this laptop Acer 5942g, it has hd 5650 card and the latest driver from acer site is 8.6?!?! Is it there a way to instal some new driver from the ati site?! thanks

used this link http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/Catalyst-Hotfixes.aspx
and installed everything in order, what can be installed, and says now that i have HD 6500M/5600/5700 SERIES with driver date 10/16/2011
i guess im allright now -
The post above mentions a 64bit version... I assume the HP Driver (Stock) is being referenced and the 11.10 would work on both 32 and 64bit systems or am I being a and there are 64bit versions that I am not seeing somewhere? -
-
yes and i can play bf3 without any problems
-
wow - cant believe i am still not getting this working
-
11.10 is official.

anyone having issues with the latest driver kinda breaking going to and exiting sleep mode (have to put the lid down and put it back up twice now for the screen to come back)
maybe its preview 3 being updated to 11.10 (sorta) causing the issue...but still. kinda annoying -
.close lid/sleep with computer plugged in
.unplug power
.open lid
I get a black screen and turn the computer off with the button. This has been going on for a while but it didn't bother me enough to look for a solution. Are you talking about the same prob? -
install new drivers but it will not let me configure switcheable graphics
Uploaded with ImageShack.us -
i install 11.10 driver version but....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
the driver don't update -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Sorta. It seems to be any time on battery though for me. I have to close and open the lid again (or hit the power button and..for some reason it won't turn off but will instead just turn on..again/come out of sleep again)
its weird -
1. Restart in safe mode.
2. (While in safe mode) Uninstall INTEL HD and AMD Radeon (Check uninstall software).
3.Restart in normal mode.
4.(While in normal mode Your computer should be at 800x600 or something like that)Go to remove a program, EXPRESS UNINSTALL ALL AMD SOFTWARE via the AMD Install manager.
5. Restart in normal mode.
6.Download the drivers from here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-10_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe
7.Install the drivers you downloaded.
8.Restart
It should work now, remember this is what worked for me, my driver now is 8.902.0.0
I hope it helps.
EDIT: OMG ARE YOU USING WINDOWS VISTA? -
that way you work swicheable graphics?
intel drivers is not necessary?
no, i'm using windows 7 home preium original -
I finally installed, something to configure?
cod4 continuous on 50-60fps 800x600 and graphics in automatic
