    different gpu/motherboard setup.

most likely won't play nice on the other laptop

if nothing else, different intel gpu driver

they should work fine unless your DV6 decides to not like 'em.

it took us a bit on the first Envy 14s because the original drivers on the laptop black screened. (This was mainly just horrible stock drivers they did this with hp's official driver update as well)

Immortal you can check which gen your envy 14 by seeing what processor or GPU it has.

if you have an i3/i5/i7 2xxx or if you have a radeon 6630 that means you have the sandy bridge refresh (so gen 2 envy 14).

They should work, they are official drivers form ati for the 5650, not specified for the envy 14.

I've tried these instructions to the letter, and no matter what I do, once I put the 11.8 drivers on switching stops working. Very frustrating, but probably not worth all this effort. The stock drivers seemed to work well enough...

Thanks for the help, though, everyone.

I'm getting an issue where the update is running, then either stopping and doing nothing after I click install, or Windows is giving me an error about compatibility, or that the installer has crashed. Do you know what could be causing this?

Try installing the driver in safe mode because something is interfering with the update and run as administrator and make sure you did not make it run in compatibility mode by right clicking >> properties >> compatibility mode.

edit1: in other news, switchable graphics stopped working so lets see if its 11.9 causing problems.

edit2: nope, forgot an hdmi cable plugged in and prevented switching!!!! I realize this after I unisntall 11.9 in safe mode, restart the computer, install stock drivers.

edit3: back on 11.9, installed fined and switchable graphics working

I have downloaded the most recent stock drivers put out my HP for switchable graphics, and those drivers have the same issue. Quite strange.

EDIT: Specific error I'm getting, when the error does come up, is that Catalyst Install Manager has stopped working. I guess I'm going to go google searching.

EDIT 2: Well a little googling and a shot in the dark and the problem is resolved. Up to 11.9 now!

No its not plugged in, and no program is open, also I downloaded the 11.9 drivers from AMD and intel hd seems not working, I downloaded the drivers from your first post and then it seems to work, any idea why? do you have any moded version?

ohh the ones directly from amd's site do not update the driver on the envy 14. The drivers on this post will work. Some are modded but most are directly from ati. The one you downloaded first is automated so when it sees the switchable graphics on the envy14, it does not update the driver for the ati card.

11.10 version 2 is out for improving performance for Rage.

Read: AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Preview Driver Version 2

NOT needed if you are not playing Rage, only install for improving performance on Rage ONLY.

If you have 11.10 version 1 for Battlefield 3 Beta, no need to update.

well. you'll need to use your 5650m drivers from HP first.

then yeah...try one of the sets on here (they're just ati mobility drivers) and put them on top

I am not the most technical person and seem to be a bit lost, is there a step by step guide. I seem to get errors / drivers failed messages when I install (tried the 11.10 version) but am not sure I am doing what is required.

    Thanks!

    Troubleshooting/Help:
If you run into problems during or after driver installation, follow these steps:
    1. download stock AND latest driver
    2. disconnect from internet and shut down
    3. go to safe mode.
    4. go to device manager and remove the drivers for both Intel and ATI cards and choose not to save the driver software. (for 2nd gen, IDK if Intel is there)
    5. restart.
    6. open any ATI driver update setup file and choose remove all ATI software.
    7. restart.
    8. install stock.
    9. restart.
    10. install latest driver found on this post.

Use 11.9 though if you are not playing battlefield 3 or rage.

Thanks for the help so far ironman, i still can't seem to get it working though. After following the process there is an error on device manager under display adaptors. The error mentions that the digital signature cannot be verified blah blah (Code 52)

The post above mentions a 64bit version... I assume the HP Driver (Stock) is being referenced and the 11.10 would work on both 32 and 64bit systems or am I being a and there are 64bit versions that I am not seeing somewhere?

anyone having issues with the latest driver kinda breaking going to and exiting sleep mode (have to put the lid down and put it back up twice now for the screen to come back)

maybe its preview 3 being updated to 11.10 (sorta) causing the issue...but still. kinda annoying

    Hmm. if I:
.close lid/sleep with computer plugged in
    .unplug power
    .open lid
I get a black screen and turn the computer off with the button. This has been going on for a while but it didn't bother me enough to look for a solution. Are you talking about the same prob?

Sorta. It seems to be any time on battery though for me. I have to close and open the lid again (or hit the power button and..for some reason it won't turn off but will instead just turn on..again/come out of sleep again)

    its weird

Ok that is weird. Now I used to have that problem, here is how I solved it.

    1. Restart in safe mode.
    2. (While in safe mode) Uninstall INTEL HD and AMD Radeon (Check uninstall software).
    3.Restart in normal mode.
4.(While in normal mode Your computer should be at 800x600 or something like that)Go to remove a program, EXPRESS UNINSTALL ALL AMD SOFTWARE via the AMD Install manager.
    5. Restart in normal mode.
6.Download the drivers from here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-10_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe
    7.Install the drivers you downloaded.
    8.Restart

It should work now, remember this is what worked for me, my driver now is 8.902.0.0
    I hope it helps.

EDIT: OMG ARE YOU USING WINDOWS VISTA?
