I'd downgrade back to 11.10 I get weird texture flickering issues on skyrim. Haven't played any other games on here since reformatting so, can't really check other stuff
11.11a are sucking, i had to go back to 11.10, also, have anyone tried gta iv? its just i bought it in the sales on steam, and the game is only using 250mb of / 1024mb, and even there the fps are low
and then put whatever you want ontop of 11.2 Kinda depends on what envy 14 you have. If it is a cto-1000 with the radiance screen you probably have to put 11.2 on first or else you'll crash when installing the later drivers.
After 11.2 is on it doesn't crash anymore when updating the drivers and/or CCC (whatever is causing the blue screen of auto-reboot)
11.9 is fine. 11.10 is a bit buggy (sleep mode doesn't wake up properly like back when the laptop first came out). 11.11 may or may not be very buggy depending on your laptop.
11.11b *shrugs*
11.10v3 preview drivers are the same as 11.10 but didn't give me the buggy sleep mode stuff.
I own a hp envy 1200en beats edition with the ATI 5650. I got assassin's creed 2 and it usually crashes to a gray stripped screen and reboots. Whats odd is that it does it at specific points(e.g going 2 a new part of map, death) and when i switch to the intel chip it plays this parts(though it lags heavily) till i get to a save point then switch back. i updated the drivers but problem persists. what could be the problem?
if you haven't you may need to update your ati drivers.
you also could try turning powerplay off since near the end of the first post in that thread it sounds like AMD says it's caused by a win7 update and power issues...though that could just be amd passing the buck.

it could just be your gpu is dying (but if it's only that sort of thing in only that game it sounds more like some dumb drivers screw up and you need to update them).
Its a new comp(1.5 months) and the crashes happen only on specific games(assassin's creed 2 and nfs the run so far) just updated the drivers yesterday and no change on the grey screen crash (though it gave a great performance boost). have any solutions or can u refer me to another forum(previous ref. was for desktops gpu not laptops )

there's not much for AMD laptop cards for this but a few posts about regular amd cards say that this happens when the card is defective or there's a driver conflict (and it's hard to tell which it is).
You may just have to RMA the computer, which means sending it to HP for repairs.
When they send you the box it will have a piece of paper in there where you will need to specify very clearly for them that it is the graphics card and that you need to have the motherboard replaced. You also will need to specify how to trigger the bug so they can see it and go ahead with the motherboard replacement (the graphics card is part of the motherboard).

you'll need to find your envy 14 serial and product number (not windows product key) before you call HP so they can find you in their system.
Basically if you haven't reformatted and gotten rid of any of the stuff on the computer you hit fn+esc to bring all of this information up. If you did reformat everything the numbers
should be under the battery if I remember correctly.
If not there, they should be with the stuff that came with the computer, somewhere.
So anything past 11.10_v3 doesn't work at all for me.
The installation process runs fine, with the exception of the SDK Runtime App. But when the reboot occurs, windows fails to recognize that any sort of dedicated graphics is installed.
In fact, the video processing is so awful that youtube videos get choppy when playing at normal 360p resolution.
1. Restart the computer in safe mode (Press F8 during the HP logo, until a menu shows)
2.Go to device manager (Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager)
3.Go to display adapters, right click INTEL HD and then Uninstall(NOT DISABLE) this device, also check the delete driver software. Also Right click ATI RADEON 5650, and Uninstall device, also check the delete driver software.
4.Once both devices are uninstalled succesfully, restart your computer in normal mode.
5.(Once your computer starts it should be in 800x600 resolution dont panic, it will recogninze 2 new devices, you should wait until it finish installing DONT RESTART IF ASKED) Uninstall AMD Catalyst install manager, and select EXPRESS UNINSTALL.
6.Restart your computer in normal mode
7. install the 11.2 drivers that are located in Ironmans signature, restart.
8.Install the latest drivers or whatever drivers you want now.

note: this is what worked for me and with help of magus and other ones i figured out how to fix it, its a pain in the to update envy 14 drivers but i love my lap
OK. SO i got to step 7. and on the restart, I get an error message saying "no AMD graphics drivers isntalled...." thought Im not sure that I really got rid of the install manager. Ill use revo to wipe it. + rep for you regardless for getting me farther then I could get myself.
EDIT: Attempt #2 Failed, same results as attempt #1 Note that after booting into normal mode (after safemode) the resolution is still 1600x900.
AFAIK the default drivers from Windows 8 Devpreview wouldn't interfere with this... would it?
Attempt #3 (unistalling the sdk using revo as well) kaput, same results as the first 2.
Attempt #4 (uninstalling the drivers from Win8, and following the same procedure as above) same results. SKD failed to install this time. resolution changed to 800x600.
I think I'll find my backup from a week ago >.>

Rolled back to my Dec. 4 backup, rocking 11.8 drivers, disabled the update on windows. And I think I found the error(s) that cause my problem in the first place.
Chkdsk came up with >50000 corrupted or missing files that were supposed to be in the file system. O.O I have no clue how that happened.
i can't update my ati driver, I always follow with the same driver... help?
1- restart in safe mode, and unistall intel hd graphics and ati 6630
2- in normal mode, unistall amd catalyst and restart
3- install 11.12 BUT NOT WORK.
From what the 11.12 documentation says, if your running Windows 7, make sure you have Service Pack 1 installed. Otherwise when you try to install 11.12 it will just fail.
I have 11.12 installed, did it this morning. Took a couple of attempts because the first time it made my Envy hang but the second time it went smoothly (did the usual uninstalled all previous drivers, installed stock drivers, installed 11.12 over the top).
Does anyone know if these drivers fix the problems with sleep mode/coming out of sleep? My Envy seems to of had this problem since 11.10 onwards and staring at a blank screen for what feels like a minute or so when you open the lid, isn't fun :/
I installed 11.12 successfully and tested the sleep issue:
.I had computer on with power plugged in.
.Put computer to sleep.
.Took power out.
.Woke it up and the screen was working.
No one else having performance issues witn 11.12? I have the sleep awake blank screen, but to be honest it doesnt bother me that much as long as the performance is good
Between the install, the restart and the reinstall you must wait until windows recognizes 2 new devices and let it install them (it will install stock drivers you dont need to reinstall hp drivers)
also in orders the drivers be updated YOU MUST install the ones on ironman signature, the ones on AMD webpage dont update the display driver.
please refer to my previous posts on page 22 & 23. So I went to HP (BTW I live in Kenya)and they told me it was my fault and could not take it for repairs. Something about it being isolated to certain programs thus not affecting the whole system performance and probably a user generated error. So any way I have only witnessed the gray stripped screen crash on two games NFS the run and assassins creed 2 and ironically just completed assassins creed brotherhood with no such problem.Any more opinions and thoughts guys?
I just installed 11.12 and im getting a black screen after waking up from standby for about 5-10 seconds. Very disappointing =(. What version can I roll back to that doesn't have the black screen? 11.10 maybe?
I uninstalled 11.12, reinstalled stock and then installed 11.10. I've only tested it once so far and I haven't had that long black screen after waking up from sleep.
The whole process also took about 3-4GB from my already small SSD but it's worth if I don't have to wait 10 seconds every time I want to use my computer.
EDIT: Ok just woke it up from standby after a few hours. Had the long black screen =(. The first time I was on the ATI graphics, now im on Intel. Don't know if it has anything to do with it but bllaaaaaah. I'm not going to uninstall this time. Ill live with it.
