    Hey guys!

Now i have tried 10 times with no luck :( I can't upgrade my drivers. I try to go in safe mode and remove them. As soon as I restart its there again, telling me to update drivers. Then I try with like 11.2 or 11.5 and it never updates. It's always stuck on the same one. Now i also lost 'Ati Radeon HD' from my device manager, and are left with the Intel thingy, since I can't update my drivers.

Can anybody maybe try to help me out?

My mail is [email protected] if anybody would be kind, and help me over there - or if they can explain further through here, Itll be fine.

Got some more information on the black screen after waking up from standby. It only occurs on the Intel graphics. ATI graphics wake up just fine.

Stock - No problems waking up on either card
    11.10 - Problems waking up
    11.12 - Problems waking up

Does anyone know if there is anything in between stock and 11.10 that doesn't have the wake up problem? Or maybe 11.11 is good I don't know.

with these latest posts, i am very weary of upgrading my ATI drivers now. I have the first run envy 14. I know when something works fine, people are less inclined to post about it, so im curious what percentage of people are we hearing from here. Can some people confirm if this latest release works for them, or should i take these latest posters as a more accurate representation?

i havent upgraded my drivers since 11.8 and although i feel like im due, i cant help but be cautious.

Heads up - HP pulled down graphics driver from envy 14 1200's support page but download link still works.

    Even more confusion.

    thanks, much appreciated.

is that the 2012 model you just got? How are you liking it? I still have the original Envy 14, and am trying to justify an upgrade.... it still performs so well, its hard to justify a new purchase.... for now

it is super awesome. I bought the envy 14 for "portability" but to be honest, I realized moving the envy 14 was not a necessity at all. I took it with me to class once in a full year because a paper notebook is 80% thinner and lighter yet takes notes faster and lasts 20+ years on battery. Also, the envy 14 resolution was killing me and I wanted 1080p at all costs. Then the envy 17 3000 comes and its perfect. I have not had it for a long time at all but for now I have ssd boot drive and hdd in second bay and its extremely fast. It also looks amazing. Mine came without any flaws and Im gonna shoot a video of it if I have time this week.

But seriously, if you need a reason for upgrade: the screen, the screen and the screen.

I got in early enough that i got the original 14 with the radiance display. Also, i transport it daily, i use it for work and work from coffee shops often. I am happy with the size, id just go 15 in an upgrade. the 2012s are back on the radiance display, right?

Nice, lucky. In that case, I would have no complaints about your envy 14. It was the perfect laptop but my resolution was just unacceptable. I dont see need for update. the envy 14 for portability and with radiance is epic. The screens are 1080p in the 15 and 17. the 15 has IPS display for better viewing angles.

    Hi everybody!
Something's bothering me: in this thread i found out how to update my HD 5650 driver (and how to keep switchable graphics), but is it possible to upgrade the GMA HD driver? I mean, my Envy 14 is always running with the GMA HD (i only switch to the ati card when i want to play a game), and i'd like to have the latest driver for it.
If i'm right, when i download the latest drivers posted on this thread, i only update the ati driver, but the gma driver stay the same?

It should be updated via Windows Update. Mine updated that way as far as I remember.

No, windows update doesn't change anything, it says my driver is up to date, but it's not. My gma driver is 8.15.10.2189 , and the latest one is 8.15.10.2509

Hi has anyone played skyrim with the envy 14 with 5650? I have it and it is quite puzzling. When I enter the map screen it sometimes crashes to black screen or works normally. Though i have noticed a pattern, when the map screen works, the computer's fan is running at a lower speed but when it crashes it was running at a relatively higher speed. Any thoughts/solutions? And the drivers are up to date.

I have an original Envy 14t-1000 w/ radiance screen. I'm still on ancient drivers, gave up waiting on HP to officially update any of them. It looks like I need to update to 11.2, and I got that link/download.

Does anyone have links or suggestions of what to install on top of 11.2? Something that's not buggy is more practical for me than the latest and greatest.

    Thanks!!

well once you're at 11.2 you can probably install most anything pre 11.10+

    (11.5 should work fine)

then you can put whatever you want on top of 11.5

Ok update 5 did fix some bugs but not the black\grey-stripped screen crashing bug. That I found out is a hardware defect on most generation 2 envy 14 of the 1XXX series esp. beats edition. If you are reading this and have experienced it, take your laptop to HP before your warranty runs out. I was informed it is a problem in the motherboard wiring that makes the computer think it has reached critical temperature and immediately kicks into effect an emergency switch off protocol.

In fact, my envy 14 1200 beats is on its way to HP because motherboard reports it is idling at 87 deg C and runs fan on max even though the case is very cool and the air it is blowing out of vents is cool.

Your kinda lucky, I live in Kenya and when I took mine to HP they almost literally told me to eff off saying its my fault even after I explained the issue and the fact that i have 9 months left on my warranty . I guess I will just have to repair it myself or look for a competent comp repair guy. This is the second time they have blown me off and its getting annoying (First time i had not known the problem and they just did a diagnostic test and it passed so they told me there was no problem ).

Well ATI say that about all their drivers so I wouldn't read too much into it. I am using the 5650 and it works perfectly so far though I keep the installation file of 11.10 version(my favorite) as a backup in case it crashes. Though i highly doubt it will happen

Personally I have seen some basic improvement. Better switching between graphic cards and the bug for black screen from waking up is gone. Performance wise it hasn't improved that much though gtaIV has less lag at high setting now. And most EA games like nfs shift and the run and Battlefield 3 have stopped crashing.

    Hi.
I've detected some banding on dark tones on my Envy 14 1xxx using the Intel Graphics (ex, on dark tones on this image: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php. Switching to the ATI adapter solves the problem, so, seems driver-related.

First noticed this a couple of months ago, but I'm not really sure WHEN it started (to get things worse, the screen was replaced 6 months ago and I'm starting to wonder if I missed the problem all this long)

So far I've tried several driver-combos from HP (color management off, settings on default):
    AMD 8.771.1.4 / Intel ?
    AMD 8.771.1 / Intel 8.15.10.2189
    AMD 8.713.0.0 / Intel 8.15.10.2082

The next thing I'm going to try is to uninstall all video drivers and install the latest from Intel suggested by Windows Update. If that did not work, I'm not sure what to do.

    Bios information:
    System: F.23
    AMD: BR038529.001
    Intel: 2056.0

    Any ideas?
Is there an utility to clean up all ATI/Intel registry keys? (just in case I missed something)
    Thanks!

Uninstalled all and installed the Intel driver suggested by Windows Update (8.15.10.2622) and things look a lot better. I can pick a slight banding if I'm looking for it, but overall its OK.

Now, the problem I have is that I'm not able to bring back full switch functionality.
Installed AMD 11.9 from this page, and works fine, but right-click options are a little messy: Catalyst and Intel Preferences are always there side by side, and when I switch to Intel, I'm not able to switch back again to AMD.

Any suggestion how to proceed now?
Perhaps installing the full Intel package instead of the Windows Update one, and then the AMD?
    Thanks!

Windows update is the worst. Get the package that has both intel and AMD from HP then apply an AMD update. Also, I would go in windows update and hide all graphics related updates. They break stuff.

Thanks ironman, but I've already tested several HP packages, all of them with banding problems on the Intel driver. I don't know if I need a higher version number (8.15.10.2622 works fine) or something is broken on the package.
Anyway, I'm going to roll back the update for now, since seems to mess things too much for work as a solution.
    Thanks again.

yeah, i noticed a new ATI driver released a couple days ago.

Why is it bad ti install their drivers right from the site. Im not exactly sure what is done to the drivers in this thread that make them 'safer/better?'

I just know theyve worked well for me, and i hope ironman continues to crank out the hits!

I installed it from here (the link on the first page). Which is just a direct link to what amd's downloader gives you (but then doesn't let you download since your computer is a toshiba/sony/switchable graphics with intel cpu)
